Thank you for this video. I had the exact same problem. After buying a set of o rings , done the job in no time. The only problem I had was I had no bung . So as it happened I had an old blank plug from the top of an old rad and it fitted perfectly so I could repair the valve. Thanks again and keep posting.
I currently have a similar / the same problem ~ I’ve a chrome towel rail opposite the toilet, the bottom of it at the far side is just leaking water onto the floor so I’ll use the loo & tread water around - only just noticed this as I’ve recently moved & the bathroom apart from this leak is immaculate ~ I’m on top of cleaning regularly & always open the window when I’ve used the shower to get the moisture out ~ the leak’s obviously something I’ve got to get seen to before winter comes
How do you get the cap off a chrome heater valve? I ask because the caps on my towel rail appear to be absolutely welded on, whereas on the ordinary radiators they just come right off with a little tug. I'm reluctant to apply any more pressure to the caps on the towel rail valves for fear of breaking something. What am I missing here?
Are the inserts for those towel rails available separately? Not an issue with o-rings but one where the spindle tip has been broken. Could do with a similar approach and only replace the insert instead of the whole 90 degree bend, less messing about. I'm assuming the valve inserts are standard sizes. I guess I can always get the whole bend, remove the insert from those and swap only that.
Very helpful as my bathroom rad has exactly the same leak from the chrome valve, it was minimal... but I removed the end chrome cap to take a close look and now it's dripping faster (this may be just because the cap was slowing down the drip). Can you help to give me an idea of how much someone should charge to do this repair ...as you're not near me and was wondering what I should expect to pay.. cheers.
Hi Grant, I guess that depends on labour rates in your area. 99% of engineers are going to replace the valve, not the o ring. So between 1 and 3 hours labour plus the part.
Hi do you service boilers in sw14 as i have an uncle that is being ripped off by british gas, watching your videos i know your someone who is trustworthy and i would like to get some one i trust to look after his boiler please get back to me if you deal with this area
Cheap rubbish valves HG. Relying on O ring seals instead of a proper packing gland. They look the same as good valves until you take the cap off and see the circllip. Manufacturers churning out and merchants stocking absolute rubbish.
I'm surprised that Ferroli didn't break down while you were fixing the radiator valve!
So true they where marketing rubbish boilers ours was awful
Good to see you back, more videos when you can please!
I haven’t seen you since you changed the fan to your own Vaillant and as far as I remember something else went wrong. Nice to see you back.
Glad to see you back! Love your videos! Thank you
Good to have you back!
Looking forward to this multimeter vid...

Thanks for watching 🙂
It’s a good job to have the orings in the van,
Keeps the cost down to the customer
👍👍
Hi,
Where do you get o rings ?
I get o ring sets wherever they are cheapest.
@@HeatingGeek
Ok cheers .
I find I end up with a box of o rings with only a couple of sizes ever used but Hey Ho
@@lance4613 The last box I got was from Lidl, of all places..
😂😂 lovin the demonic face at the end.
Nice tip on the rad valve 👍🏻🤩🥳
Only a few ever watch till the end. 🤣

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I hope you got it sorted :-)
Great job one handed

The slim top on the valve unscrews Have a look at the video and you should see 2 separate parts to the top of the cap
@@HeatingGeek That was embarrassing 😳 That cap just popped right off once I knew what I was doing. Thanks for your help.
@@Dabhach1 No problem, you don't know until you know.:-)
Good video! Really helpful! Thanks!

Not as far as I'm aware. I would just replace the whole valve in this situation.
Love your videos
Really Good thanks a lot for the video 👊
No problem. Im glad people still watch them :-)

@HeatingGeek Yes, I'll replace the valve, cheers for your help.... 👍😎
Did it go well?
@@HeatingGeek I cheated, and found out that we had extra cover for any water leaks on our insurance, so they fixed it the same day.
Thats not cheating. :-) Thats smarts@@grantmail4112
What size “O” rings are they Ollie
Much smaller than the spindle but stretched on and do the job.
GooD catch with the O seals. Did you notice the valve lid was ‘dezincifying’?
Yes I did. I guess someone flushed it and left some chemicals in the system water
@@HeatingGeek The usual mechanism is electrolytic dezincification (steel rail/brass valve) not a whole can be done about that.😉
Can i use lithium grease instead of silicon grease on the o rings?
No. Use no grease or washing up liquid
Are the bungs from a plumbing supply store or are you improvising?
Yes from a merchant. But obviously you can improvise
Exellent job sir
Very handy thanks , didn't know that
I think its great your offering to help with portfolios ... I’d work with guys anytime but I am Swansea formerly living in Perivale
where can you get similar type rubber bungs with different sizes?
Try toolstation or screwfix they have a selection boxes for o'rings
@@HarpsR cheers
Where did you get the o rings from??
The kits I use are from plumbcenter.
Where to get this part
An O ring pack.
Can I ask what would be the average repair costs of that job?
No idea. We charge fixed price or policy so we're different.
The end 😂
Well done for watching till the end. 😂

Sorry, not me.
Bet customers love you filming on phone whilst working,
Worlds gone fucking mad
Yes it has. And you watched it? 😂
Magic box with a ferrolli can there be much worse combinations.
The boiler has been OK since I done a main heat x. Honestly been reliable for about 4 years now.
@@HeatingGeek ones we had up north seem to leak like sieves and trying to find the correct orings from the exploded diagrams was never fun.
Wouldn't be fixing that on boxing day 😂
Didn't take long :-)
Couldn't they take the towels off the radiotor ffs
In would of used them if it all went wrong :-)
Would not have a Ferroli boiler if you paid me and fitted it free. CrXp
I like them. :-)
Nice video but definitely a last resort repair.
You could have a separate line for all those sh--E valves😂
Great point! It is a last resort but also the valves will last another few years. :-)
Yes those chrome valves are garbage , that’s why they are a fiver a pair on eBay... 💩
Nice repair with clean clothes on...👍
Boxing day ?? No way loll 😂
Them two orings cost afew quid i bet 😉
Yes boxing day. And it was a maintenance policy customer so they didn't pay a penny for the actual visit.

Your both absolutely correct. 😊
Just show how to repair the valve not bullshit before
