Millions of Germans after WW2 were not only violently expelled from Czechoslovacia but from actual German territory like East Prussia, Pomerania and Silesia. Those German territories added up for one quarter of the former German territory and were annexed by Poland and Russia. What Bill considers parts of Poland or Russia was actual German territory until WW2. Most of those people worked hard building up a new life in the remaining parts of Germany.
That is something people don't understand. If you lose wars you lose territory. That was the norm then and should be now. 5:45 Germany can consider itself lucky that the country still exists today the way it does. Just as Palestine can be lucky to exist after losing the 1967 war.
That's what you get when you loose a war. After what Germany did to Europe they're lucky they're still even a country. They should have been occupied themselves. Go to Aushwitz, see what they did to people and tell me you still feel sorry for those 'expelled' Germans. Realistically, this problem persists because the Arab countries surrounding Israel want it to persist. The reasons may be more complex than: "it's always good to have a bogeyman to distract from our oppression of our population," but, like many other countries in the past, they could have been more accepting of their "brethren" displaced from Israel & helped them to start new lives. That wasn't part of the plan, the Arab countries forced the Palestinians to live in refugee camps, they denied them the opportunity to start new lives & apparently all for the purpose of keeping Jews & Israel as "the bogeyman."
This is correct. If you read the memoirs of the then Syrian president at the time, he actually admits this, saying they (the various Arab governments) said they would be going back in a few years and they never did... remaining second class citizens in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria...
There's so much you're protected from knowing in the US. Netanyahu as recently as 2019 said it was Israel's strategy to bolster Hamas against the PLO to use the chaos to take Palestinian land. Israel's government has a radical religious fanatical ambition of taking all of the West Bank and Gaza, by ethnic cleansing. I have no sympathy for the surrounding Arab countries, but why is it their fault that the survivors of a Holocaust use rhetoric akin to what Hitler used to take another land that isn't theirs?
While all that is true, let's go back to the source, and that source is Islamic Jew hatred, straight out of their book. It also doesn't help that PA leaders are getting filthy rich by continuing the conflict. Trump nipped it in the bud by cutting their funding, but the current cabal fake president undid it all. After all, it and the Muslim Brotherhood have a common goal.
Exactly. Unfortunately there were 10s maybe 100s millions people displaced in the conflicts. Could someone name another precedent of permanent refugees camps? It's more about hate to the Jewish state than love to Palestinian brothers.

This is something that existed since the first wars fought in the name of Islam. In Islam, there are three ways of getting new slaves: 1. Prisoner of war that did not convert to Islam. 2. Slave market 3. The modern Israel has been a country for what, about 75 years or so, there has never been an independent "Palestine", Gaza has been on its own for the last 15-20 years or whatever and still, we are where we are. @@dagduesund5175 Humanity will only be able to access Truth by accepting we can only be aware of the “Relative Truth”. We thought the world was flat, for example, until discovered otherwise. I find it fascinating you chose a quote about believing in god, because respectfully I believe that as much as the belief in a god can be for some (and not all) part of the solution, it can also be harmful and part of the problem we face today. Specifically, in some religious circles and schoolings, there's a lack of dialogue about scripts that are being held as sacred. Therefore, as history has shown time and time again, there are many people who committed crimes against humanity while claiming that their doings are "God's will". I think that in this conversation, as it's important to recognize some specific scripts can heal, it's also important to shine a light on the dark places, where specific scripts can actually do harm. The Jewish people being called “the People of the Book” also speak about keeping the dialogue alive, which we do also with continuous writings and interpretations. I’d like to add one very known phrase (and principle) in the Jewish culture which is: “דֶּרֶךְ אֶרֶץ קָדְמָה לַתּוֹרָה”. The first two words ‘דֶּרֶךְ אֶרֶץ’ (‘Derech Eretz’) literal translation ‘The way of the Land’, and the meaning of the full phrase translates to “Proper universal ethical behavior precedes the Torah.” No matter which religion, it’s a matter of the sake of humanity itself to be able to criticize specific harmful scripts, even if people hold them sacred, and with that comes healing a lot of the hate and violence we can find. If we look at the antisemitism that arrives from some Islamic people and groups, it’s important to note how it in fact has roots in the Quran. One example: "Thou wilt surely find the most hostile of men to the believers are the Jews and the idolaters." (5:85) = Jews are hostile to Muslims. Another example: "And He brought down those of the People of the Book who supported them from their fortresses and cast terror in their hearts; some you slew, some you made captive. And He bequeathed upon you their lands, their habitations, and their possessions, and a land you never trod. God is powerful over everything." (33:26) = An indication of the battles against the Jews, and a divine authorization to kill them. There is a concept in Judaism of ‘Tikkun Olam’ (תִּיקּוּן עוֹלָם = 'repairing of the world'), which refers to various forms of action intended to repair, heal and improve the world; to the pursuit of universal justice which based on the idea that "Jews bear responsibility not only for their own moral, spiritual, and material welfare, but also for the welfare of society at large.” Humanity has a total need - spiritual, emotional, psychological, physical, logical need - of connection to something bigger than ourselves (be it a Justice, God, Collective etc), finding meaning and belonging. This journey can be beautifully sacred as much as hopelessly devastating. I believe truth can be accessible with empathetic, engaging and knowledgeable communication; through encouragement of curiosity, of questions in the dialogue itself. And I choose to have faith in humanity. I maintain faith in humanity, including my own self. It doesn’t mean I don’t have boundaries, priorities, etc. And it doesn’t mean it comes easy to me, somedays it feels impossible. Yet without it, personally and with all seriousness, I have no reason to live. Rephrasing that with hope and love, it is my cherished reason to live, and pursue life that is worthy of living.

It never fails to amaze me how so many people would rather believe gossip than find out the facts of the matter! Thank you, Bill, for at least trying to educate them.
If you think these are facts, you are clearly deluded. This is a hugely convenient way of glossing over history and is symptomatic of the American education system. Do you know how Ireland 'just lost its tip'? Through continued organised resistance against its colonisers. That's how. Could you imagine saying this when tens of thousands of people - men, women and children are dying and millions of people are being displaced as we speak? I guess I just find his argument pretty flawed and so I find it frustrating to hear people validate it in the comments. Sure, it sounds good with a laugh track and a few visuals but it's telling that he failed to mention countries like Rhodesia, Uganda or Somaliland that were former British colonies (just as so called Israel was under British mandated Palestine) before they were decolonised. I agree, people in these comments don't have a clue and need to read more. You know how Americans love to talk about why the west needs to back Israel because they're the underdog outlier in the Middle East? People used to talk about Rhodesia in a similar way until they went rogue. Israel is going down the same path to rogue statehood in my opinion. Anyway, I used to like Bill. No Muslim was forced to leave when Israel was founded. In the constitution of Israel it states that they hope the Muslims will stay and build the nation of Israel alongside the Jews. All the calls for Muslims to leave Israel came from Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Iran, etc.
Actually, about 700,000 Muslim were expelled from Israel for good reason after the 1948 war of independence but 200, 000 were allowed to stay and most of the ones expelled were later allowed to return.
There was also the Partition of 1947 when Pakistan was created out of a part of India (initially named West Pakistan as there was also an East Pakistan created (now Bangladesh)). Millions of Hindus and Sikhs had to leave their ancestral homeland and Muslims on the "wrong" side of the border also moved across to Pakistan. The transition was bloody: 15 Million were displaced and a Million died. It should be said that many Muslims stayed in India and today the Muslim populations of Pakistan and India are actually nearly the same; approximately 240M and 200M respectively.

@@parjau4554I do think there are some major differences between Israel/Palestine and the partition that also need to be acknowledged. Mainly, the partition was a blunder made a retreating coloniser that it thought would help it navigate the geo politics of the world in the wests best interests. Israel/Palestine though is a case some might argue is an active colonisation, with the West Bank having settler colonies. People didn’t move across borders because their homes were being taken by an occupational force, they had moved because an arbitrary line, fuelled by communal violence had been cut across the land they already had inhabited. Both events have scarred those it had effected, and these scars shall take generations before they begin to fade.

I'm with the college kids, the maimed children and mother who've lost their babies due to Israel's bombings because a group of Hamas / Iran tools rampaged, raped and murdered in the name of Palestine. The CIA propped up Pinochet, Saddam Hussein, Gaddafi and Manuel Noriega. Netanyahu did much the same in the case of Hamas. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel not only tolerated those payments, he had encouraged them.
My ancestors were Swabian Germans who migrated to Hungary in the mid 1800's and lived together as Germans but spoke Hungarian outside the home for generations. After WWII Russia had possession of Hungary and an Ethnic persecution began of the Germans. In total, 239,000 Swabian Germans were forced to leave Hungary. It is estimated that 11,000 ethnic Germans civilians lost their lives during the expulsions. This has been the way of the world for nearly the entire history of humanity.
I am very sorry your ancestors and other Swabians had to go through that ordeal. No one should be persecuted for their culture, ethnicity, or language, and just because this type of persecution is ubiquitous throughout history doesn’t mean it’s inevitable and doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be fought. I think that what Bill is arguing comes dangerously close to “might makes right.” Just because things happen often doesn’t mean they’re okay or should be considered acceptable. It’s true that both Israelis and Palestinians have harmed each other, but two wrongs do not make a right. It is important to consider the scale of harm done on both sides during these conflicts, especially in recent times. For example, in this current conflict, 1400 Israelis were killed, and in response 20400 Gazans were killed. Or, in 2018 and 2019, when 200 or so Palestinians, most of whom were nonviolently protesting, were killed by the IDF, even though no Israelis were killed. I think that in recent years, Israel has shown a trend of responding disproportionately to conflicts in ways that engender more hatred and mistrust toward the Israeli government within the occupied Palestinian territories. Palestinians live under constant surveillance and restriction from the outside world, and they face forced eviction, brutalization, murder, and a lack of economic opportunity. They are not in a position to work toward peace if they are constantly struggling to get food on the table or to keep their homes from becoming part of settlements. In order to truly move toward peace, I think that the Israeli government should show Palestinians that it is operating in good faith and truly wants an end to the violence and freedom on both sides. An important first step in this direction is to implement a ceasefire, which is what the vast majority of the American people and pro-Palestinian activists support. Finally, I would like to make it clear that I apply these standards to all conflicts, not just this one. if I had been alive during your ancestors’ time, I would have advocated against their persecution, as I do now against the persecution of Palestinians, and as I will in the future whenever the rights of an oppressed minority are infringed upon.

we are where we are. A quote attributed to C.K. Chesterton seems to describe this situation "When people stop believing in God they do not believe in nothing, they will believe anything. Getting people to stop believing in false gods that make them feel good about themselves is one high mountain to climb.
The first two words ‘דֶּרֶךְ אֶרֶץ’ (‘Derech Eretz’) literal translation ‘The way of the Land’, and the meaning of the full phrase translates to “Proper universal ethical behavior precedes the Torah.”
No matter which religion, it’s a matter of the sake of humanity itself to be able to criticize specific harmful scripts, even if people hold them sacred, and with that comes healing a lot of the hate and violence we can find.
There is a concept in Judaism of ‘Tikkun Olam’ (תִּיקּוּן עוֹלָם = 'repairing of the world'), which refers to various forms of action intended to repair, heal and improve the world; to the pursuit of universal justice which based on the idea that "Jews bear responsibility not only for their own moral, spiritual, and material welfare, but also for the welfare of society at large.”
Humanity has a total need - spiritual, emotional, psychological, physical, logical need - of connection to something bigger than ourselves (be it a Justice, God, Collective etc), finding meaning and belonging.

Reading some of the comments below, I do believe a detailed history of the world, going back to ancient times, which states all the facts, needs to be taught in schools. If you think these are facts, you are clearly deluded. This is a hugely convenient way of glossing over history and is symptomatic of the American education system. Do you know how Ireland 'just lost its tip'? Through continued organised resistance against its colonisers. That's how.

There is actually not much similarity between Israel and Palestine vs India and Pakistan. Pakistanis are not European or Arab Muslim settlers who came from thousands of miles away. They are natives of the subcontinent. I am not sure why people even compare these issues it is so rudimentary. A better comparison would actually be European settler colonization of South Africa or America. The only similarity is that the British screwed up both.

For instance, he didn't mention that JORDAN was specifically set aside for Arab Muslims. THAT is their country. Not Israel. Not Palestine. And there was NOT genocide "on both sides" re: Israel and Arab Muslims-- the Jews/Israelis have NEVER practiced ethnic cleansing, whereas Islam DEMANDS ethnic cleansing and Muslims have obliged. These Arabs were told to leave by surrounding ARAB LEADERSHIP so that the Arabs could then attack Israel and kick the Jews out. The Jews did NOT "kick them out."

@@cw4623 A lot of false equivalency is used in this monologue but it's is funny. Maher has had a success with political shows because he's intelligent but when it comes to religion and especially Islam, his bias shows. I am shocked at how much of a propogandist he's become for Israel recently and never thought he'd brush off 2024 mass civilian deaths (war of retribution) so casually just because they're Palestinian / Muslims. He's definitely anti-Islam and views Christianity and Judaism in a more favorable light but is a Catholic turned atheist. If he calls for a priest on his deathbed, I would not be shocked. Until his early teens, he was unaware that his mother, whose family was from Hungary, was Jewish. Owing to his disagreement with the Catholic Church's doctrine about birth control, Maher's father stopped taking Maher and his sister to Catholic Mass when Maher was thirteen. Palestinian leadership has always been poor but in the last few decades, Israeli intelligence has played them very successfully, decimating PLO in favour of Hamas, in the hopes that they could be controlled and used to obtain the end result that is now very achievable, scattering a people as they were once scattered / an act that can be legally described as genocide. For years, the Qatari government had been sending millions of dollars a month into the Gaza Strip - money that helped prop up the Hamas government there.

@@HichemeBel-l6y but the land wasn't promised to them by God, or their "allah". Nearly 3,000 years ago the Bible actually recorded God's promise of the land to Israel though, that's roughly 2 millennia before Islam was even a thing!

The best lesson for people whose knowledge of the matter is limited to a couple of slogans. Share this to your 15 years nieces (and to any adult thinking like them).
Problem is, they won’t watch cause it’s Burr. Even though they’ve never heard or watched him.
Bill’s knowledge of history is limited to a couple of slogans.
bill is actually extremely informative and educated on this matter and a lot more. probably bc he does not get his info from tiktok@@KitTaylorOfficial
You dumb fools, he is absolutely lying.
Mixing Arabs with Palestinians, defending genocide and mass starvation as the foult of those receiving it.
Just think about it and tell me, where should they go to start their own little Mexico ???
5 million people are being occcupied and abused every single days, they aren't even allowed to walk the streets to their homes, yet they are the problem.
Not that Israel is trying to absorb territories outside it's international borders again and again.
What was I supposed to learn from the video? That might makes right? He was literally defending colonialism.
Thank you Bill . You have a lot of listeners hopefully some impact !
His finest monologue ever
I was thinking the same
true 👍
Quite possibly his dumbest ever.
Don't agree with a lot of what you say sometimes, but on this one you are 100% correct. Posting this video on other sites...

This is by far one of his best pieces! Very Well done. Honest. Strong. Bold. and most importantly THE TRUTH. love for isreal
Have higher standards. Netanyahu's approval rating at 7%.
The truth is Netanyahu has recently said he is proud of preventing a two state solution. The other truth is that according to countless binding UN resolutions and the ICC it is Israel that has placed Palestinians under suffocating occupation for 50+ years. The only truth here is our double standards and hypocrisy towards freedom, justice and law.
I'll take right and wrong over ratings.
Best new rules segment of the year!!!!!!! What a summary. Thanks Bill
He forgot to mention that from river to the sea is also the policy of Netanyahu, who believes the whole thing belongs to Israel and Palestinian have no right to the land. Maher also forgot to mention that a month before the attack, Netanyahu stood up in the U.N in front of the whole world with a map of Israel, a map that showed the entire West Bank & Gaza belonging to Israel. Why don’t you tell the whole story Mr. Maher?
Bill Maher skillfully deceives his audience by telling them only a half of the story. From river to the sea for Israel is also the policy of Netanyahu and his government who never believed in a 2 state solution from the beginning. Tell the whole story Maher, if you claim to be fair.
@@cyrusparsa1724 this is what you got out all this? One picture? If Israel wanted it, they could have took it a long time ago.
@@cyrusparsa1724I'd suggest you read about the history of 20th century. Because the Palestinians started a war and lost. So Israel could claim rights to all the land of they wanted. They offered them a state several times. But they refused every offer, because their mission statement is the death of all Jews and to write Israel off the map. It's like if native Americans started shooting rockets at American civilians. What do you think would happen? Yes, the land used to be theirs, but the USA exists now and things aren't going back. There was a war, they lost. They should choose peace now
Agustinreyes,
What do you think Israel is doing now. Taking Gaza.
🙏🏿❤️🇵🇸
Absolutely essential information, Bill. Thanks!
This needs to be shared on every platform, mainstream news channel, college campus in the world.
Nice hate-filled pro-Israeli propaganda.
It doesn’t matter who started the cycle of suffering, what matters is who ends it.
The the thing is, islam forbids it, quran says "Kill them wherever you come upon them and drive them out of the places from which they have driven you out"
Hate often turns into a lifestyle.
It sure wont be tge tge vengful entitled narcassiatic Xionists who give one fuk about religion
Except that Hamas and Hezbollah and other terror groups in the region keep starting it up over and over and over again.
Israel has always fought a defensive war.

@@forblogssakedotorg2448 Millions of people died in WW2. It doesn't mean that the allies should have never fight against Nazi Germany.
True
@@ofrikalif4938 not even close to the same thing and I think you know that. Invoking the Holocaust, one of, if not the worst genocide and stains on humanity, just shows that you can't see nuance - and that 30,000 lives don't matter to you. I'm pro Israel, I'm pro jewish, I'm Pro Palestine, I'm pro any type of religious expression that doesn't harm others. But most importantly I'm pro human being especially defenseless young children. And you glossing over the at least 13,000 CHILDREN that have been murdered in Gaza is deplorable.
And furthermore, this may be a well done piece and I hope it's educational for many. but hearing it from Bill Maher who has been spewing islamophobic rhetoric for YEARS is tough to swallow.
Thank you, Bill, from a Wisconsin Jew.
I don't think they care that they're not winning. They see themselves as martyrs when they die/lose and think they're dying for "the right" cause.
How's that working out for them? their people are still poor and miserable for the most part
And there is the million dollar answer. When your main industry is the brainwashing of individuals to think the “next world” is better and reproduction is allahs will….endless cannon fodder….funded by others oil rich theologies.
Correct, that's called indoctrination and their goal at this point is quixotic. Supporting this lost cause makes pro hamas Leftists in the US monsters for wanting the Palestinians to die in a futile war.
@MrSlowestD16 So you, like many other of the ignorant make the presumption and fallacy that all Arabs - in this case Palestinians - are extreme Muslims. How's that work if you flip the perspective and the global community assumed that all Christians in the US are evangelical nationalists and MAGA's? Would that be an accurate portrayal?
A textbook definition of 'death cult' right there. Few things could be more anti-human.
Bravo! I'm quite conservative, but man you nailed it. God bless you. ❤
Conservatives aren't even actually conservative anymore
This is brilliant! Loved this segment
I was brought up with the phrase ' doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome is the definition of insanity '. The peoples of Gaza, Judea, and Sumaria keep doing this, so they must be crazy. Destroying your own people and country to spite another proves it.
Best New Rule ever . Finally some facts from the UN partition in 1947 with Humour
His best ever
Brilliant. One of the best new rules ever.
My great grandparents were from Silesia and were driven out by the Red Army. My great grandfather froze to death in the snow. They settled elsewhere in Germany and were successful in business. Recently I visited Wrocław and was pleased to see its Polish population equally thriving. I am proud to see my great grandparents’ region in such good hands. The Poles in the region were themselves displaced before they settled there. Palestinians don’t seem to wish to move on. They are stuck in their grievance mentality. Muslims all over the world are cheering them on. Why can’t they learn? Israel has tried to let Palestinians participate in their highly successful country, but they are not interested. What’s Israel to do faced with such ignorance?
Good to see that there are a few people with common sense left on the left.
@kayodeisaac6274
The left is the only side that has common sense since people don’t like to be told what to do with their lives and you can’t massively lower taxes and massively increase spending on the military and police.
Common sense to accept ethnic cleansing that continues today?
Oh,come on!!
The left would never vote for a Clown like Trump!!🤣
What could possibly make more sense than billy making excuses for geno-side during the holiday season. Happy holidays everyone.
While good sense on the right is in negative numbers...

One of his best..Bill Maher 👍
Just build a road from the River to the Sea (where the distance is shortest) and give the Palestinians said road. All will live happily ever after.
Thankyou Bill, for saying what so many people of influence are too cowardly to.
There's a lot of historical inaccuracies - such as that the West Bank alone was the "original UN partition deal" (it is only about a 1/3 of what was promised to the Palestinians in 1947 which itself is less than a third of what they had pre-Zionism), or that Jews were kicked out of Muslim countries post-1948 (only Syria, the vast majority of the Jewish migration was willingly to the new Jewish state to do "Aliyah" and take advantage of land incentives), or that Palestine attacked again and again and lost (the six-day war was started by Israel), or misrepresentations "Arafat was offered 95% of the West Bank" (the Palestinians were not offered the most important part - Jerusalem. And the West Bank at the very least should be wholly Palestine - annexing even more of it through a peace deal is ridiculous.)
Your superpower: Missing the point.
"From the rio grande to oregon" ... what a line... pay that writer double.. damn great line

Here's the answer to the question: the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) married Aisha (RA) at the age of 6 and consummated the marriage at the age of 9 for 3 reasons: First, he wanted to maintain his close relationship with one of his closest companions, Abu Bakr (AS). Second, he wanted Aisha (RA) grow in knowledge in Islam under his wing, tutledge, and Prophethood, and lastly, by marrying Aisha (RA), she would become one of the great scholars of her time, and one who narrated the 4th most sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), which allow people to know the quotes of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW)
