Where are the answers to all these questions? How would i know that i have done correctly?
The answer to the qst question is very time consuming. Instead, we can just say that vertex is the lowest point in a parabola and all other points will have greater value of f(x). Therefore, the answer is -12. Also, it may help in some other question, but you can say a+b+c=f(1)

haha the English section is much more challenging... in America this is a standardized test, so anybody who is taking tough classes can do this pretty easily

Took the DSAT today and the last question was similar to your first question in the video. In the test, the question gave the roots to the function and asked for the sum a + b. For anyone wanting to try out the question the coordenates given were (12,0) and (-6,0) and a > 1. Answer is -10
hey i tried to solve this but I'm stuck, can you pls share how you got -10?
@@jayshoney3045 they give you the roots, so reverse factor basically to find b and c. then find a by plugging in roots
@@returntolobby3030 what do you mean by reverse factor?
@@user-nj5yq1yb6t Hi, I tried to solve this question too, and here is my work process:
When the roots are (12,0) and (-6,0), and a > 1, we know that the factored form of the quadratic function is:
y = a(x-12)(x+6)
When we expand this into the form [ax^2 +bx +c], it is:
y = a(x^2 -6x-72) --> y = ax^2 -6ax -72a
Now here, I am assuming that the question asked for the SMALLEST value of (a+b). Then we can assume that the value of 'a' is 2 (since the smallest value that satisfies a>1 is 2).
a = a = 2
b = -6a = -6*2 = -12
Finally, the values of a+b would be:
2+(-12) = -10
Therefore, the answer is -10.
Sorry if my explanation isn't that great. I hope it made sense!
thank yo so much!!! @@user-cp9zs1tr5j
Thank you
All these questions have simpler and logic way to figure out the solutions efficiently and accurately. The first step is not to calculate but to analyze. For example, the 2nd question, since you've gotten kj=-45, so j=-45/k; and the question said that j is an integer so -45/k is an integer, then 45/k is also an integer.
Yeap, that's the logic I used. I just did the math to demonstrate the math behind the logic.
for the last question, you have one equation and one unknown, you will get an r value for each of these x,y coordinates thus all are correct. Thanks
for 26 example I offer to use simple values as x=2, y=1
Thanks
Do you know any other places to practice these level 5 questions? Also, could you make a quick one about Density? It is a new topic on the DSAT
More hard questions + density are here: www.admissionhackers.com/sms
density was tested on paper SAT as well, will check if there's any worth making a video on.
Density is just mass/volume, usually density and mass is given, or you can just calculate volume with the given numbers
it says its 400$ ;-;

If you're going to attempt digital sat
Jut put the equation in desmos
And put the options give "r" any value which ever point lies on the Line for every value of "r" that's your answer
Cause these eq are same they have infinitely many solutions
So whichever the value of r is the correct solution (point) will always be on the graph
Good luck y'all!

Do we get a rough sheet on the test day of DIGITAL SAT?
The first question after some long algebra i got that a = (175/1000) b=(-315/100) and c=(175/1000) and pluging in this numbers into x=-b/2a (you get 9) and y=-D/4a you get -14 , so the question is that my answer dont add up to any of the possibility that are there but they do give you a D>0 wich means two solutions and the right vertex point so help me
I gave yesterday’s SAT, the module 2 for maths was particularly challenging but rest of it was pretty easy, expecting above 1500 ;D
What did you get?
whatd u get
whatd you get
how much did u score?
do we get a formula sheet for the math section for the PSAT?
answer this please , a circle with Centre, C= (h,k) contains point A,B A=(h+1,K+ sq root of 138) and angle ACB is a right angle. find length of arc AB.
Angle ACB is a right angle ,that means the distance(arc) length of AB is equal to 1/4 of the circle which is (pi X r)/2
radius = distance b/n a and c
R^2 = (h+1-h)2 + (k+sqrt 138-k)2
R^2= 1^2 + 138
R^2 = 1 + 138
R= sqrt 139
Arc ab= (pi X sqrt 139)/2
Hi mr jon I start the sat new I don't know which book I should give if its possible can you answer to me which book I should use
Thanks
1st qs can be simply done by discriminant we will get a>0 so the ans should be the last one❤❤❤❤
I have seen a method including desmos, would that method work always?
the last one was on june 2023 sat test. took my time. ended up just guessing the answer. nevertheless fortune was on my side that day. eventually scored 780

I will be giving the digital sat this august. However, I am at a score range of 650 to 680 in math . I did watch some of your videos for help to solve some of the questions but improved by 70 to 80 points. My main area of weakneeses are in the following topics: Median, quadratics (hard questions such as in this video), sometimes percentages, and functions with transformations. Can you guide me what measures to take in order to get at least 780 or even a perfect score on the maths section. I might give the Digital sat in October again.
Go read rules for transformation and median then just do some practice

i still couldn't understand why is it 12, an you explain?
For the first one you don’t even need to do any calculations. -14 is the minimum value y can take once you draw the graph. So at any other x apart from 9, my y value has necessarily got to be higher than -14. And there’s only one option that is larger than -14.

Hey John am currently in the 650-700 range but it look like am no good when it comes to level 4.5-5 questions. Could you advice me on what to do so I can get a perfect score on the math section for the December SAT
I'm also going to take the sat this December, my tip is just to practice. I raised my score from the 500 range to the 750-790 range. Write down whatever type of question you don't know then watch UA-cam or Khan Academy on it then do some ixl.
I'm also presenting December. I hope to improve my scores, you guys have any tips to improve Math Section? I had a 680 on my last sim and I know I can do better.
For the lasr question, you can do it in your calculator. Just plug in both equations and it will give u the two answers for x and y being
X=7/2 -3/2 y
And y=y, this is the same format as B for the last question but instead of r, y is used in the calculator.
Thank you
i don't understand, how do you plug in both equations if they are the same

can we take our own calculators in the SAT exam for aug 26 digital sat?
yes, you should
Is there anything changed in DSAT ? In terms of questions content.
Section two is adjusted based on skill and you have desmos the whole time. That's the main stuff
2 no. Question is Easyyy though!!!!
is it just me or is the 1st question hard? because I still don't get how John got -12 to be the answer ( I don't understand why a, b, and c are incorrect)
We can estimate where the vertex is, and the question says that there are two solutions. Therefore, we know that the graph must open upwards in order to meet and intersect the x-axis. After expanding vertex form, we can simplify and find the equation for a. The minimum value of a must be 0.0000000001 ( or higher than 1), there it is impossible to attain any other value for the answer.
first response is correct, but in simpler terms, it's because 14 subtracted from any positive number will equal a number greater than -14. Answer choices A and B are both less than -14, so they can't be correct. Answer choice C is -14, which is also incorrect because -14 is not greater than -14. Therefore D is the only possible answer.
@@abhinavgottipati I understand why a cannot be negative, but why can't it be 0?
@@olaostrowski3894 if a is zero, your equation would be y = 0*(x-h)^2+k or just y=k which is a straight horizontal line.
Since the “a” must be positive,we should plug in a option which will cause the value of “a” be positive,means the number should be larger than -14 (=>-12) so that their sum will be positive.-12+14=2,which is positive ✅

There is an easier way to do the first one… realize a should be positive which e limited all the options other than -12
what about 'b'?
@@JohnSATb would also have to be positive?
@@srivallikatkuri8028why does it 'have to be' positive?
Cause a is positive and in vertex form x coordinate subtracted is also negative
@@JohnSATidk guess ur right then I got lucky getting -12
For question 1, how did you get 18?
By completing square method
Because of the identity used as a^2 -2ab + b^2
(x)^2 -2(x)(9)+(9)^2
X^2 -18x +81
im not getting a 800 half the time coz i make 1 silly mistake
Where did you get the -18 on 1st question? I’m so confused
Wouldn't the answer to the first question be -14? If you plug in 0 for a, and and then add the terms, you would end up with 0x^2-0x-14, which would result with the answer being -14.
a cannot be zero cuz then x^2 will also be a zero, which can never be the case cuz its quadratic
Also does not give us 2 intersections with the x-axis
for the first question how did you know a is positive
bc the parabola opens upwards!
The vertex was underneath the x-axis and the parabola intersects the x-axis at two points so we know it opens upward, if it opened down it would not intersect the x-axis at all because the vertex is under the x-axis...
why are they so simple? even a grade 9th student can solve it
because *IT IS* grade 9 in the Asia

Wait, in the second question, if you expand (hx+k)(x+j), which is (hx^2+hjx+kx+kj) or (hx^2+hjkx+kj) which makes b = hjk, and since h = 4, kj = -45, b is simply 4*(-45) = -180, which in this case, b/h is -180/4 = 45, is an integer, can someone explain where I got wrong?
b=hj+k not hjk
when u said "or" it should be hx^2 + (hj+k)x + kj
These are mid question for my country (with due respect)
if this is SAT paper, then ICSE students could easily go the top universities in the US without any efforts lol
the sat is an English based test the math is relatively easy
not really. Im taking a-level maths currently in my senior year, and yes I do agree a-level maths is way way more advanced, the exam questions are rarely tricky. Id say just study the syllabus and you'll do great. Sat on the other hand, questions are often tricky, and it feels like I must know the strategies for each type of question.
wait but if k and j could be 9,5,15,3,45,1 then technically b could be 4, -4, 12, -12, 44 or -44. All of these could be divided by 4 tho.
right, but b could also be 5,6,7, etc.
The question is asking for "MUST BE TRUE", so there can't be any exceptions.
wait....2:12.....how can it be D) when the answer is C)?
How tf are those considered hard? A 9th grader could solve them in less then like 10mins....
In the second question, it was rather easy to calculate b. b=hjk=4*(-45) Which makes option A the correct choice too.
So if 2 options seem equally right, will I be given the marks if i choose option A?
isn't it b = hj + k tho? cuz it's hx^2+hjx+kx+kj but hjx+kx doesn't equal hjkx, right? Unless I'm wrong, answer A might be founded upon this mistake.
Remember that's there's only ever one right answer to a problem; if another looks correct, something is whack.

after this video my Asian genes came out
for the first question how did you know a is positive
The parabola opens upwards. That's why the value of a had to be positive
The parabola intersects x-axis at 2 points,also it is given that the vertex of that parabola is (9,-14) , so if you draw it on xy-plane it is clear that a should be positive.
The parabola has a vertex positioned under the x-axis so if the it opened upward it would intersect the x-axis ( which it did ) and if opens down then it wouldn't intersect at all - just because the vertex is underneath the x-axis
