You can actually drag in a drum groove sample , then set drummer to follow the drum groove track and come up with a very similar, yet original drum groove.

@@Top_Dawg360 to be honest, I can’t remember exactly. I haven’t been making much music in the last year. Look into how to create a groove track in logic. Then inside the logic drummer , there’s a follow button you can click, then choose to follow the track you set as the groove track. It definitely works, I just can’t remember exactly how to do it. But Logic has a feature you have to turn on called groove track. It’s somewhere in the menus related to what the track headers show. You can set all tracks or some to follow that groove track, so it will basically quantize other tracks in the style of the groove track. And more importantly, so will logic drummer

I have found that it works best to think of it as 1, 2 and 4 bar regions. And exploring making the simplest patterns via puck placement and individual kick/snare etc choices.
Making these takes time but then save as user presets.Well worth it.Plus it gets you very personal inside the song. With subtle variations, it goes really great for the whole arrangement.
Using a scratch rhythm guitar part as the track to follow, the pull and the push matches great.I mute the guitar because then I can do a proper rhythm guitar to a now livelier drum 'performance'.

I recently discovered (after seeing a massive list of automation controls on my S3 controller for the plugin) that if you change the Drum kit designer editor to "Controls" and drag it out bottom right... there's a plethora of options for tailoring the kit. Of course if you change it to Multi-out, your mixing options are endless.

    Really enjoyed this video.
Thank you for highlighting how great this often over-looked part of Logic is.
WILL DEFINITELY USE IT MORE NOW THAT I KNOW HOW TO APPLY GROOVE-TRACKS AND CONVERT TO MIDI OR PATTERN REGION. So cool!
Would love to see something from you that outlines
which aspects of music production to learn and in what order.
(From Boom-Bap beginnings to Film Scoring the Dark Knight?)
An EVOLUTION of a music producer if you will.
I would also like to see a video wherein the latest expensive plug-in is outdone
by stock Logic instruments and plug-ins.
I am always interested in a cool engineering trick, mixed with an interesting use of music theory. I am of the belief that "the hand-shake", (i.e combo of Theory and Technical skills)
is far better and cheaper than any VST/AU out there. (and has created every VST/AU as well.). Something few UA-cam Gurus address. With the Exception of Venus Theory, Ed Talenti, Nathan James Larsen and MusicTechHelpGuy.

I bought a set of v drums because I got tired of fighting with drummer ... It's great and definitely a good starting point when you want to get things going ... but the program will never do exactly what you hear in your head .. I'd always have to go in and drag everything into midi and spend even more hours programming specific fills, kick drum hits where I wanted them .. and I do real straight forward stuff .. Most of the beats the program comes up with always seemed like too much fiddle faddle .. even when you simplified beats, changed drummers, whatever... it always did stuff I would never do... It's easier and less time consuming to just get some electronic drums and knock the stuff out yourself. I love all the drum kits Logic is stocked with ... drummer is clever and really fun for a little while .. but then after a bit, the limitations really start to frustrate the crap out of you. It's a fun toy though.

While I agree that Logic's Drummer is amazing I can't agree that it is ahead of all other plugin developers. In particular, the version of Jamstix available when Logic's Drummer was released was already way more sophisticated. It's currently so far ahead of Logic that there is no comparison.
Unfortunately, the developer has totally neglected the Mac version in recent years and so it currently doesn't even officially support Catalina.
However, it is a solution so superior to Logic Drummer that I maintain a Windows PC purely to host Jamstix and effectively use it as an external MIDI drum sequencer.

Completely agreed. Logics Drummer is like a newbie drummer compared to Jamstix. Apple has simplified the UI of Drummer so much that there’s no way of achieving the same control. So it’s a bit of a stretch to claim that Logics drummer is so amazing and that plug-in developers is “just catching up”. Rayzoon have been doing that since 2006 or longer, but unfortunately not stable for Mac.

So I did the midi transform - muted notes changed the velocity, added some and took away notes. This all worked - and was interesting to try.
