With Dave's vocals isolated from the music, you can really hear how great his voice is in this cover. Powerful and full of emotion. One of the best and most impressive vocal performances he ever did, and something you wouldn't expect from him either.
So sorry for your loss. I am dying of the same thing as your Dad. I told my daughters that it doesn't matter if they come and see me as COPD is not a pretty way to die. All I ask of them is to live while they can and to be the best women that they can be. That and when they think of me to remember the good times and tell their kids about their crazy grandpa and the adventures we had. I would bet that is all that your dad wants for you. Nameste.
I can only imagine like disturbed playing, and then they finish a song, all the lights go out. Then he starts singing this, a Capella, spotlight on this, him close to the audience, really making it personal. But have it JUST him, get more intense and everything, yell and everything. It would send chills up my back.
I listened t the original Simon/Garfunkel version as a kid and it was a staple on my favorite list of songs during my teen "lonely period". A classic tune that has always been haunting. Dave hits this tune perfectly. His haunting voice is a true measure of what a singer can be. His remix and tonal changes are absolutely pure.
David's voice isolated from the music is one of the beautiful things on this planet. The power and passion in his voice, and the growl he adds into it closer to the end sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it.
When I first heard this version it was on a random Spotify playlist I was listening to in the car. It began and I was thinking "Oh wow whoever this is is amazing. I need to find out who this band is when I stop for fuel." Then as it got to the final two verses and the powerful hoarseness comes to his voice I was shocked that it was David. I honestly never appreciated him as having a traditional really good voice until I heard this. Gave me a whole new appreciation for him.
For all the 'pitch correction' folks, this was the sum of 6 hours studio work and over 30 takes to find the right tone for the cover, according to both artists and technicians. I've seen it almost flawlessly pulled off live and, for those that won't take my word for it, the Conan performance is comparable to the performances I've seen. The range is extended to almost breaking point, as can be heard in the first two verses but that serves as an example of how much they were willing to expend in order to make a rendition as heartfelt as this. All credit to a band who aren't known for rock ballads but managed to pull off the best I've heard in years. May they continue to surprise (and cause people to scream autotune) for many more years.
Matthew Cove Using autotune doesn't make you a bad singer. In the studio, you want to deliver the best possible product for your listeners to receive. There is no singer in the world that doesn't hit a flat or sharp note from time to time. That's what the pitch correction is for. He's a great singer, but there is undeniably small amounts of pitch correction going on.
WeeklyAudio My aunt dates a guy who worked with and occasionally still works with David in the studio. He goes by 'Dude', his nickname and let me tell you: David uses no auto-tune nor any technological editing.
Colton Hofmann I have no doubt that you're telling the truth, but as a producer myself, it's very easy to spot pitch correction. I'm sorry to say, but there is very small amounts of it in this. I can point out the exact times if you want.
Yeah you are correct. Anyone who has used pitch correction and knows how it functions can easily pick it out. This version isn't heavily corrected, but the "Conan version" absolutely is. So many artists these days use it, it's crazy how people have grown so accustomed to it and will blindly defend their favorite artists, haha.
For me, auto-tune is kinda like make-up. Most people put so much on, that someone wearing a "natural look" appears to have on none at all. When it comes to music, I am fine with a "natural look" when using auto-tune. Using it to correct a rare sharp or flat is fine. When a "singer" is using it all over the place to cover up their natural voice, that's where I hate it. tl:dr: Yes, David Draiman uses auto-tune. But he uses it so rarely that it's obvious that he has a damn good voice.
im not usually a fan of rock, but hearing someone with such a raspy voice since a song like this so sweetly made me fall in love. then hearing him really bring the emotion at the end was amazing. obviously he’s a great pick for such a meaningful song
David is my favorite singer ever. His voice is powerful yet percussive but in this song it takes on a whole new dimension. He really build up his voices power from beginning to end making an excellent cover.
when he gets to the line "like silent rain drips fell" its like a sudden punch. and the multiple voice effect on "to the neon god they made" was just incredible. his voice is so amazing.
his beautiful voice really carries the entire song. usually musicians rely on the melody and music to carry their voice, but his voice commands everything in this song.
This is the best version I've ever heard. Maybe the best song I've ever listened to. listen to it at least once a day. I play it, my husband shakes his head and walks away.
HOLY SHIT!!!! Never heard vocals like this before. 5th time on the trot listening to it and blubbing like a baby and covered in goosebumples!!! OUTSTANDING 👍👍👍👍👍
Hello darkness, my old friend, I've come to talk with you again, Because a vision softly creeping, Left its seeds while I was sleeping, And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence. In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone, 'Neath the halo of a street lamp, I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence. And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more. People talking without speaking, People hearing without listening, People writing songs that voices never share And no one dared Disturb the sound of silence. "Fools" said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows. Hear my words that I might teach you, Take my arms that I might reach you." But my words like silent raindrops fell, And echoed In the wells of silence. And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made. And the sign flashed out its warning, In the words that it was forming. And the sign said, the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls And tenement halls. And whisper'd in the sounds of silence.
I love this song, it’s so beautiful. I can remember one time I had woken up from a nightmare and couldn’t go back to sleep and so I got on Facebook for a few minutes and someone had shared this and as I was listening I became calm and was able to go back to sleep.
This was my boyfriend's favorite song when he passed away unexpectedly a year ago. I cry tears of sadness for my loss every time I hear it....but love the song so much because i feel his presence as it plays
I have never heard of him before this song. It is beautiful and powerful. He has a great voice. I would like to hear more songs like this from him. His voice is very moving and powerful. He sure can belt it.
cant find good enough words, wow awesome, amazing just doesnt cut it. such a strong voice thats out of this world, i love this, probably the best version of this song i have ever heard. its so amazing it brings tears to my eyes. such talent
How can you take a legend of a song and make it your own in such a perfect strong way, bloody awesome vocals so good I could listen to it over and over touches the soul man touches the soul I tell ya !!!
I am in awe. I thought you did a good job with covering the song, but it's only now that I realize how much you put into that with your voice. I don't know how else to say it, but whatever you do, keep going to that vocal coach you have. Thank you for doing such a fantastic job.
SRT Viper 51 I think what happened was the piano during the original recording may have bled in to the mic, that's why it can't be heard when he's singing, but I'm not 100% sure
Amazing ! What a voice. Love this video. Takes me to a peaceful place, when I find the need to find, a peace that is hard to find sometimes in ones life. The sound of nothing but . . . " silence " Thank you " Sir.
First time I ever heard this version, I wasnt sure if I liked how dark it sounded. But the more I listened to it, holy crap I loved it. Now? I LOVE how they did this.... that man's voice is like a God's roar!!!

This has a great reverb, so it is not his actual voice.
Even with the reverb, you can still hear his actual singing. Reverb does not mask how great a person sings.
Yeah the reverb isn't even that long.
It's not and it's not masking out his voice, it's just adding a slight echo effect to it.
And if you listen to a live version, it's equally amazing
I can't stop listening to this. It is beautiful.
jstevens71 I can't get enough of this song, either.
Nosey Goat sorry for your loss man :'(
Nosey Goat now when i hear this i get emotional because its now reminding me of my dad and he currently has heart problems
So sorry for your loss. I am dying of the same thing as your Dad. I told my daughters that it doesn't matter if they come and see me as COPD is not a pretty way to die. His voice is like silk to my ears
Where did you her about this video? i noticed the views have been coming it lots for little while but not sure where :D
Custom Rhythm Game Music I love this song, especially the vocals, so I looked for vocals only. Simple as that.
Ah, i guess people are really looking for it today i guess :D
I found it being shared on facebook.
Where on facebook?
WOW! Without music his voice only better!
Татьяна Мельникова Assholes. Because there are always going to be assholes.
Wonder what Vitas would do with this song!
Amber Driesse :Yes
Agreed, just as powerful without the music
I couldn't agree more.
I can only imagine like disturbed playing, and then they finish a song, all the lights go out. Darren D. MacDonald omg...yes please.
Agree, agree, but... my opinium... You can yell after the song not when the sound of silence has to be at the crowd for this amazing voice.
Darren D. MacDonald i was at the A7X show last month and they were there, they did that and it was cool af
I've seen them live. That is basically what happens. It's amazing to see him perform this live.
I would cry
Hauntingly beautiful, gave me chills.
The original by Simon and Garfunkel is great, but Disturbed brought out the true dark emotion behind the song and completed it.
This is what I think, too. This version strikes me right in the heart.
I love it.
True
Thats right. A very powerful voice, sometimes dark and strong the other time very soft and gentle. I love the way he is singing this song

Truly a man of impact on ones being. No musical instruments or music in the background
Why am I so obsessed with this? Y'all I been STUCK on repeat for a hot minute...it gives me such peace.
