"Nothing Else Matters" is a song written and originally performed by James Hetfield of Metallica. It was released in 1992 on Metallica's self titled album. As far as we can tell, this is one of the only a cappella versions of this song and we hope that we've given such an iconic song the treatment it deserves. Thanks again for watching!

Voiceplay drops a new video with J. None
Me: Nothing else matters.
Well played. Well played indeed.
exactly
@@Thevoiceplay well VOICE-PLAY
hehe
I wish I said that. :)
@@Thevoiceplay in typical VP fashion, you guys kill it once more
Huh. I always thought this song was a really sad, depressing, nihilistic ballad. I didn't dislike it, but I never heard the message until this version. Wow. Amazing how a different vocal styling can make you LISTEN instead of just HEAR. Beautiful.
If anyone had told me my favorite a cappella song would be a Metallica cover I would have taken that as a sign of their insanity. But here we are. Voiceplay's best work yet. Geoff deserves a Grammy for this arrangement.
You said it right.
You mean it wasn’t already Van Canto’s Battery cover?
Alert the committee!
@@Thevoiceplay Cesar get on that!
Spectacular
They are all fantastic, but the guy in the middle brings the perfect rock energy to the song.
Those bass vocals by the guy on the left are crazy.
he has his own channel, Geoff Castellucci, he has an amazing voice
wonder how it sounds live :)
@@MarkThornberg me too. But I do think with a mike he is ridiculously amazing. Wasn’t a big fan of his “sound of silence” rendition- but not because of his voice, which is amazing…
@@MarkThornbergCan confirm they sound just as amazing live.
@@kineahora8736 Really? It's my favorite version. Always wanted to like the original, but never quite got it for me. I like Geoff's.
This deserves SERIOUS Grammy Award consideration. Period.
What about this: Kiss your past Goodbye by Aerosmith
Bruh, this is real music. The Grammy's are for that music industry factory created garbage.
Consideration AND actual award!
Everyone wants to hear those high notes but when they hear those lows...you feel it in your bones
Sooo true, you nailed it here!
The bass singer is wonderful. He hit notes that didnt even register.
I’m all about that bass! About that bass! No treble!!
It’s very fun to hear Geoff do the actual bass line from the song.
Are we not going to talk about how Layne blew us all out of the water with those insane violin skills?
I love when Layne busts out the violin
Dude has some SERIOUSLY MADviolin skills!!🤯😳
Conventional Wisdom: You cannot do a Metallica song acapella.
VoicePlay: Hold our violin!
Genial, espectacular, me fascina.
I just learnt who Layne is and he made that violin his Btch
Y’all don’t appreciate my boy Eli enough. I need more of his rock tenor voice. He was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. His low register gave me goosebumps.
Eli deserves all the love!! He killed this.
I'm convinced Eli was forged out of pure concentrated awesome
What about this: Gateway by Bryan Adams, collaborate with Scott Hoying from Penatatonix to take full lead, high harmony by: Eil Jacobson and Cesar de la Rosa, Geoff will used mixed of subharmonic and growl for the bassline.
Yeah, Eli's the star here!
When Eli breaks out the claw hands you know notes are gonna get hit
I'm a music producer, and i could not know that something or someone could sing so lower octaves with no false note. Even digital synth loss trying to sing so low... The Man in the left is an alien 🙆🏾♂️🙆🏾♂️🙆🏾♂️
Reminds me Peter Steele from type o negative.
You mean geoff
Geoff definitely seems otherworldly at times ❤😂
Yes; im a bass baritone and I have got some very low notes but I didn’t even know those notes on Geoff are even possible-I’m hearing an E1. 41 Hz!!!
I sometimes have G1 (49 Hz) on certain days right after I wake up. And they’re barely touched whereas this guy can make real sound on 41 Hz, although obviously the Mike helps a lot…
@@kineahora8736 I'm pretty sure those are subharmonics. I'd say his chest range is only till A1 or G1 but he's just damn good at using the subharmonics that they blend in so well.
If the Grammy's or the music awards have not considered a category for Acapella, it's time. This video belongs on MTV as well.
MTV still plays music videos?
Does MTV still exist?
Hot damn. Found this at random. I love Metallica, and this was amazing. Acapella groups rock. Totally found a gem this night. ❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Isso é do caraleo manooo
We get Layne participating in harmonies AND VIOLAYNE?!?!?!
OK, it’s official. This is the best Metallica cover ever, somebody give these guys a Grammy
VIOLAYNE is brilliant.
What about this: Welcome to the Jungle by Gun’n Roses
It's VIOLAYN--AHHH!
Do covers actually get Grammy's? Genuinely curious.
..... Get Geoff 2 one for the performance and one for arrangement my goodness
To cover such a metal song and do it absolute justice with their own spin on it is just fantastic. These guys are so talented!!!
The most beautiful of Metallica songs done beautifully. Thank you.
I am a huge Voiceplay fan and always expect excellence. I also love the Metallica original of this song . What I did not expect was how moving this would be. I am literally crying like a baby. I kept thinking that each singer needed to be called out for their excellence. They were all superb. And then Layne played his violin! Such a beautiful arrangement and such gifted performers.
VIOLAYNE!
Violayne, thats genius 😂😂
What about this: do ya think I’m sexy by Rod Stewart
Glad I wasn't/am not the only one this brought tears too.
This one didn’t move me to tears, but I haven’t listened on headphones yet. This is DEFINITELY in their Top 5.
And Geoff… dear cake the man’s low notes. I’m a baritone and I can only dream of some of those notes.
My #1 favorite (which did involve tears) is still “Running up that hill.”
What’s next for them???
that bass tho 🔥
that's Geoff Castelluci! He has his own channel with songs like sixteen tons and house of the rising sun. He has a huge range and sings ALL the parts! Here on voiceplay you should check out ... everything. :) They do any genre you can think of, some drama filled and some serious. How about dream on, dragonborn comes, Warriors, We don't talk about Bruno, Something just like this, Oogie Boogie Song, and Tennessee Whiskey, just for a few samples.
@@CJ_536 Geoff has many good videos, but for me, his best one is "Far over the misty mountains cold"... it's awesome
@@HolgerPrecoma my husband loves that one. I prefer Shenandoah. I love that he has a wide enough variety for all of us. No matter what song, he's awesome.
BEST ACAPELLA EVER FOR THIS SONG !!!!!!! PERIOD
That deep voice. WOW. I was not prepared for that
OK.....Is anyone else binge watching this video over and over or do I have issues? Haven't watched a video this many times since Disturbed"s Sound of Silence. Absolutely spectacular performances by all in this video. So many layers of awesomeness I find new things I missed each time.
Voiceplay patrons have been able to watch this for about 2 weeks now. I've no idea how many times I've watched in that time but I'm still finding new things
no issues at all. I've listened to this for 2 weeks already, and am still not able to go a single day without 20 playthroughs 😄😄
Completely replaced my love for the original i thought of nostalgia at one point but my god the blend the simplicity of the setup the all around showcase of each voice the swell from one verse to another and the eventual build just phenomenal payoff masterful top to bottom oh and violayne
What about this: Under Suspicion by Robert Palmer.
You're not alone. This is probably my 20th time? Plus all the reactions to it. :)
This is a great song in Metallica’s version. To rearrange it to acappella is truly brave. To perform it in this breathtaking way is almost inhuman. The addition of J.None is perfect. To add VioLayne in the solo is extraordinarily clever. I’ve been watching this over and over again since it’s Patreon release and it gives me goosebumps all over every time. Even my soul gets goosebumps. That’s how incredible this production is. To say I love it, is an understatement. ❤️🥰🎶❤️
What about this: Rocket Man by Elton John

I am a HUGE Metallica fan, have been since I was a kid. So you already know I've heard this song forwards, backwards, sideways, and everything in between a MILLION TIMES and LOVE IT. Gosh I could cry it sounds so freaking good!! I even told my girlfriend after listening... "I think I just heard the absolute greatest rendition of Nothing Else Matters I've ever heard." and she replied "is that why you've been staring at the wall for the last five minutes without saying anything?" LOL! Another masterpiece! BRAVO!!!!!!
For the moment only the wall and the stirred heart matter.
@@arightscepter indeed 🥲
It is the best cover of it I have heard, but I still just had to go put the original on after it.
Never went down the Metallica Road, but this song makes me appreciate the core meaning of the lyrics and I love what VoicePlay did with it. I guess I was just in that music era where so many groups were doing screaming guitars that didn't really SAY anything. Might go revisit the original, but I can't stop listening to this one. I told Hubby it's my new love song for him.
With all the crazy that has been around us for several years he has been my rock and my solace and when I am with him, it's all good AND Nothing Else Matters.

I love the fact that while everyone else is screaming up in the rafters, Geoff looks like he's literally trying to hold down the low end. It's like he's worried they're going to end up in orbit :)
They knocked it out of the park, and straight into solar orbit! :D
He can beatbox like it’s nobody’s business AND he also plays the violin??? What can’t he do 🤩🤩
And he have pretty voice too 😊 yeah he is insane
He also plays violin in their cover of Warriors, you should check it out!
The vioLayne XX
Pentatonix's Kevin does their beatboxing and plays the cello so Layne being an excellent violinist doesn't surprise me.
He is pure bread breed or a hybrid breed of all beatboxer.
How beautiful human voices can be?
been tossing this around my friend groups singing the praises of this cover so might as well share the praise here as well
It's amazing, the way everything is laid out, the build up; the violin solo straight up making me feel some kind of deep, feral, primordial emotion that sends shivers down my spine everytime
This cover is straight up amazing
That violin section was amazingly intense
Gave me chills at the climax of the solo. This one is special.
The emotion that "Yeah!" hit! That was so HARD! Awesomeness!
Genuinely, Layne on a violin is now officially my favourite thing in the world. I need to see more.
Be sure to check out their cover of "Warriors," then. 😁

Wow, Geoff has really outdone himself this time. Absolutely incredible arrangement.
You all are amazing! And yay, Violayne has returned!

I have to say Eli really shone in this. The right amount of melody, harmony, high, presence, rasp at times, etc.
Hats off sir! 👏
He is the most rock’n roll tenor 2 that I ever heard, let’s do any Heavy metal songs for Voiceplay to do.
So deeply moving...
Goosebumps ALL O-V-E-R!

This turned out to be my #1 played song on spotify for 2023. No complaints there!!!!!!
That “YEAH!” before the solo gives me chills.
OK, that was SHOCKINGLY good.
Eli is soaring so high he made it into a low earth orbit, and then when you think you saw it all and even the camera is shaking - hey, lets throw a violin at Layne and see what happens...
Hat off to Geoff for pulling off this impossible Metallica acapella arrangement.
What a bunch of F'king pros!
Oh to have been a fly on the wall for Geoff bringing this one to the guys. I can just imagine the conversation:
Geoff : "Alright guys, this one's gonna be a bit different. It's Metallica, but it's gonna be relaxed and easy (for me). Eli, Cesar, J, nothing crazy (by the way how high can you sing?). Layne, you just have to do a basic rock drum set (sing, AND play violin)."
Eli: *gets a glint in his eyes and just grins*
Cesar: *looks at Eli* "Bro, you ok?"
J: *just laughs*
Layne: *gives a sly, impish grin and says* "(carrot) cake."

I haven't been able to listen to Nothing Else Matters for a long time, because it used to be "our song" in a relationship that turned emotionally abusive and hurt me very deeply. Your version took the pain from it and enabled me to love the original again, on top of being one of the best things you guys ever made. Thank you so, so much
This is the best acapella cover of a song I’ve ever heard. Replaying it over and over. So powerful and moving. Be proud guys! ❤

So hours... that's like one listen all the way thru, right? 😉
I hope metallica has seen this. It's absolutely awesome. I love this song to begin with but you guys took this to a whole nother universe. It was brilliant.
When sound and voices do NOT touch the ear, but directly your soul, climbs its way up to the heart, leaves a tickling throughout the whole body... then it clearly unfolds passion love, what one does! YOU guys made all that. Never stop!

Were it possible to wear out a digital track, that's exactly what I would have done over on Patreon. This is one of my favourite, if not top VoicePlay things ever. I still get chills. I'm *so* glad J was able to join for this one, because his voice is just perfect here. Eli is, appropriately, the absolute rock star of this song. Layne gets to show off in a jaw-dropping way, but I won't spoil that. Cesar's earnest, breathy tone is gorgeous. Geoff is just awesome. I mean always, but a heaping of extra bassy awesomeness here. Such a masterful arrangement and production all around ❤

OUTSTANDING!, Gentlemen. Mr. Stein, you play a wicked violin, great beat box, and wonderful voice. I MUST listen to Voice Play DAILY! Thank you for including the lyrics. BRAVO!
Epic Moments in this song:
All 5 min and 50 sec of it ;)
But seriously, here’s some of my favorite moments
0:47 J with those descending arpeggios
1:03 Eli’s tone in his beautiful lower range
1:25 J’s smooth and soulful solo
2:06 I love the pairing of voices for this section-J and Eli harmonizing with their baritone voices while Cesar and Layne blend beautifully in the background with their lighter and breathier tones
2:32 The background vocals switching between oohs and lyrics
2:51 Geoff’s hand when he drops a sub
2:55 Eli’s rock grit while J and Cesar harmonize
3:21 After Geoff just sang low, he jumps to sing baritone with the group then drops back down
3:33 The “boom” effect with Geoff’s hand gesture, the camera shake, and Layne and Geoff’s low note-is just *chef’s kiss*
3:47 Eli's solo
3:58 Another "boom" visual from Geoff
4:04 The background vocals for "they play" has so many cool runs in it
4:17 The stacking of "I know" from Eli at the top to J at the bottom
4:24 THAT HARMONIZED SCREAM! Eli!
4:26 Geoff drops a low note while he does an epic hand gesture that makes it look like he created that earthquake with his voice-Geoffquake!
VIOLAYNE!
4:41 Eli’s riff in unison with the violin
4:45 Geoff air-playing the bass guitar
5:09 The background vocals melt from “ooh” to "who we are"
5:16 The song returns to how it started with the bell tones while the tempo slows down
In each instance of the bell tones, one person is not singing. I think Geoff arranged it this way so that at any point in the song, the 4 people can do the bell tones in the background while the other person is soloing.
I love how at the beginning, Cesar sings the highest harmonies with his breathy tones. But as the intensity of the song goes up, Eli takes over the highest harmonies using his rock tenor voice
This is a masterpiece of an arrangement-I have no words to describe how amazing this is. Geoff brings us on a journey as he slowly builds the energy of the song to the climax.
What a way to start the new year!
I feel each moment you described!
That all sums up in this.

If it had been any other a cappella group than Voiceplay I would have had my doubts that this song could even be done in a cappella, not to mention that it takes a lot to do James Hetfield's voice justice. Voiceplay however not only did the song so that the voices blend together in a way that is different from, and yet definitely worthy of James Hetfield, but they also managed to twist it enough to make it completely their own without loosing the essens of this iconic song. What a masterpiece!

I think these normally-butter-smooth, dapper a cappella-loving gentlemen have some grit in their very souls that is slowly seeping out over time and it's a beautiful thing to behold. They started with Panic at the Disco and Queen (seriously, who dares to start with Queen?), moved on to Prince and a double helping of Imagine Dragons, blessed us with a wonderful spin on Kansas, and then followed that by absolutely nailing the one Aerosmith song everybody knows it's better to just leave alone. Now they start the new year with Metallica?!? They're all going to need new toothbrushes to get the sand out of their teeth if they keep this up, but I for one really hope they don't stop! 🤘🤘
