Here’s my hot take: S1-3 is completely understandable why Bloom takes a good chunk of screentime. S1 focuses more on us as the viewer getting to explore and adapt through Magix and Alphea through her eyes. She’s really excited to be a fairy, but also has several moments of doubting herself because her powers are so different from most fairies/magic wielders, considering she basically is controlling a god. She never asked to be special, despite she loves having powers and exploring them, but quickly keeps attracting a lot of unwanted attention from a group of senior witches that’d normally ignore her, but she doesn’t know for most of the season she has a very powerful power that needs to be kept out of the wrong hands. Despite its still largely on Bloom, the last 1/3 of the season perfectly displays how each fairy has grown and definitely aren’t day one rookies anymore. And Bloom has to survive without her powers for quite some time. I really love the dialogue in the 4Kids version of Daphne helping her understand she’s both an ordinary Earth girl and princess of one of the most powerful kingdoms and has the most powerful magic ever, perfectly showing how she’s still Bloom and her Earth side is just as important as her magical side.
S2, agreed. It’s mainly on Leila and her friendship with Musa specifically, and Flora and Tecna have a lot of story too. I actually love how Bloom kinda became the damsel in distress and does get into some arguments with Sky because they became an official couple halfway through the season.
S3 focuses more on her again, and it’s largely because of how personal Valtor is to her, especially because no one truly knows if her parents survived their attack with him or not, and he keeps toying with her emotions to make her mad and unfocused, hence weakening her. He lies every time, and I don’t mind the idea of Bloom having to gain her Enchantix powers differently, as per the rule. I wish it would’ve shown her saving someone on Earth and clarifying that unfortunately doesn’t count, but the main problem I had with her earning was how lazy it was. Literally all she did was get mad at the Trix, they aren’t even empowered to ensure their victory. I would’ve thought they’d have their DisEnchantix powers here, showing how much more dangerous they are now, and especially how everyone around her except her has Enchantix. But she chooses to keep fighting and protecting Maya, despite how injured she is, and its her DETERMINATION and unwillingness to stop fighting for what’s right that’s what allows her to earn her Enchantix powers differently. I think she should’ve had a couple more consequences to really hammer in how unstable her powers were, instead of it mainly being miniaturization is off limits. I kinda felt S3’s finale was kinda a bust, and they didn’t really get creative of Bloom actually defeating him.
S4 is definitely when a lot of people started hating her. Its very LARGELY when she became the lead singer and leader of the Winx Band instead of our goddess Musa. A lot of fans including myself were royally pissed at making Musa a backup singer or lead guitarist instead of lead singer, that the writers chose to make Bloom the leader instead. Musa’s powers literally come from music and how happy it makes her fans, but has a lot more experience in singing and playing different instruments. Next offender was Bloom challenging Diana instead of Flora, which could’ve been a great example of showing how Flora isn’t an insecure shy mouse anymore, but a very powerful and underrated fairy of nature. Offense three is when Bloom confronts Nebula, she doesn’t even try to explain her similar experience with Valtor and having everything taken from her, and getting Nebula to see revenge will do nothing except destroy her. Offense 4 is Nabu dying. Sky died in S2 and Bloom saved him, and arguably an entire dead population of Sparx/Domino. That is NOT fair that Nabu and Leila’s happily ever after was sabotaged and for some dumb reason even Bloom cannot heal him.
S5 just made even more fans made. It was set up to explore more of Leila’s personality and homeworld and her family, including being related to the royal mermaid family. I believe Tritannus easily had the power to become a great villain, but yeah. I don’t mind getting to see more of Daphne’s story as she kinda got forgotten after S3 and the movies, BUT she became the excuse to make Bloom the focus AGAIN. Especially with Leila struggling to let go of Nabu and open her heart to Roy, but having to deal with her maniacal cousin literally tearing her family apart and causing so much damage to other worlds. It could’ve even been where he tries to convince her how similar they are because he heard of her fiancé’s death, and she has every right to be bitter and angry, as he was passed over for crown prince. And especially all it took was breaking his stupid trident was the key to defeat him? Come on, why not have it be Leila, considering she’s a lot more experienced in fighting underwater?
S6-8 I feel kinda rebalanced it, specially the later 2 with Bloom not having huge significance in the story like 6, but unfortunately it doesn’t change how little screentime or story the other Winx get unless you’re Leila or Stella. Flora, Musa and especially poor Tecna are always given the last 5% to fight over
In conclusion, in the first 3 seasons Bloom was NOT a Mary Sue. She’s very similar to Sailor Moon and Usagi Tsukino in my opinion, where the other sailors do have stories and ambitions too. And I love how Bloom wasn’t this perfect character either, as she did struggle a lot with accepting the truth of her hidden past a lot of times.
With season 4, yes they did make a few rash decisions with Bloom (not nearly as bad as the Nick era though), but I think we can answer some things concerning those decisions.
1. In the Believix era, the show had just hit 1970's Wonder Woman levels of popularity...and since Bloom is the main character...toy marketing demands that main character do everything....even if story-wise something might not make sense...so there's the irl reason. In-Universe? If Musa's solo career takes off (as she had plenty of solo nights shown too throughout season 4), you only have 3 other singers/guitaurists in the group, Bloom, Stella & Flora, the iconic trio...and when the 'razzi come for interviews...Flora's still a bit of a wallflower so forget her being on the mic regularly, Stella's gonna be worse than Bloom is accused of being as a mic hog so Bloom getting lessons from Musa is actually a good thing and we find out that because of this the two became closer and now she writes lyrics for Musa since they're best artist buddies (Bloom also probaly even hand-draws the sheet music Musa's thinking of...I can see her actually doing that.) much to the annoyance of Stella.😂
2. For the conflict about Diana....remember Sophix is about wisdom and which planet they're on...even if it turns a fairy into a planeteer. Remember even though the Winx have been on Earth before, only Bloom and Roxy have actually lived on Earth and it's implied that the only other Winx who regularly visit Earth with Bloom aside from Stella are Aisha and Musa....and hardly anybody ever goes to visit Linphea and Zenith. They go to Earth, Domino, Solaria, Andros and Melody more and not necessarily in that order, even when we don't see as much of Melody, we've still seen more of it than we've seen of Linphea and Zenith combined. Flora doesn't have an individual connection to "Earth" outside of Bloom until season 4, but she has a connection to earth. Tecna also didn't get to make the same connections until then, but unlike Flora, Tecna had an easier time adapting (😂) because like Aisha's sports-oriented self, Tecna being a gamer chick was how she was able to relate to humans...and even though Stella goes to Earth the most, she really didn't connect as much as Musa and Aisha did...because we see that Stella really only went to Earth to go to Bloom's and maybe the Gardenia Mall on occasion. If not Bloom vs Diana, I think Tecna vs Diana would make more sense showing that Tecna the booksmart girl is now also emotionally intelligent.
3. I'm not sure if the battlefield is the best place to explain the Valtor bit...especially if Nebula is a bit psychotic at that point. This one would again be more of a thing for Tecna to explain...with a whole "yes I understand how upset my friends were when I got trapped in the Omega Dimension thinking I was gone, but I wouldn't want them getting revenge, I would prefer they continued the mission, were they right to be angry? Sure, but they should have listened to Miss Faragonda about striking when mad...and Bloom took it so hard that she almost well I'd rather not think about what Valtor was trying to get her to do" all while Bloom is kicking Nebula's rear.
We got a YAPPER who graduated from YAPPERTON university over here onggg 😂😂😂
While I don't think Bloom is a Mary Sue, I feel she falls victim to bad writing in seasons 5-8. They undid a lot of her character development (to the point where it affected her relationship with Sky), give her a lot of unnecessary praise, and just kiddiefied the show in general.
The writers didn't just do this to Bloom, but to Stella (who was reduced to your typical popular girl and whose relationship with Brandon was stupefied), Flora (who was reduced to a shrinking violet and whose relationship with Helia was given unneeded drama), Musa (who was reduced to a deadpan snarker and whose relationship with Riven was ridiculously toxic), Tecna (who was reduced to a bookish nerd and whose relationship with Timmy was given unneeded drama too), and Aisha (whose tomboyish traits were completely removed and was given TWO love interests fighting over her, despite previously grieving over Nabu.)
This is what happens when you put the writers of Blues Clues, a show meant for toddlers, in charge of Winx Club, a show meant for preteen girls.
Why is everyone putting blame on the writers themselves? This was all the creator’s agenda to soft reboot the show for “an all new Winx Club for a brand new audience” just like Game Freak did with Pokémon starting in Gen V, of course this is what happens if the creator tries to soft reboot the franchise. However, I can see some reason for Pokémon to have a soft reboot for trying to feel like a new beginning, like removing the Pokémon from Generations before Gen V and Ash Ketchum has became 10 years old, once again. But for Winx Club, there is no excuse for a soft reboot that gets introduced right after the airing of Season 4 for the first time in America while Season 5 still has the fairies in their Believix outfit and Aisha grieving over Nabu, despite the fact that the season was supposed to be a soft reboot, so you’d expect the Winx to be in their Magic Winx outfits(albeit slightly modified) and Nabu’s death wouldn’t be brought up only to be forgotten afterwards, but nope. Season 5 can’t even decide if it wants to be a follow up of Season 4 or a soft reboot where it feels like a brand new beginning for the franchise.
Not only preteen girls, even boys
OK... (whilst I do agree with the majority of your claims, even tho Musa's snarkiness added more to her charm) first of all, "Blue's Clues" be a childhood national treasure, with great life lessons to be learned & lived. And second of all, do you have any citations/proof of Blue's Clues writers being tasked to write for Winx Club aswell?
About Muri...that was always toxic...in the comics after season 4, they split for good (and in the Cinelumè dub and original timeline following the Italian which the comics canon also follows presuming Bloom's making comic books with Helia that Stella edited to no end because Bloom wanted to write more in-depth stories and Stella watered it down because Bloom didn't get to Tecna in time to get a security lock on it for 5-8, MOTA and the tv movies, but she managed to get one on WOW.) and we see Musa and Aisha in those comics become much happier being single ladies....Aisha dated a mysoginistic childhood friend, Musa got a Sky clone, but for her...and it almost worked, however...it wasn't meant to be.
@@raymondmercado3347 writing credits mention Nick Jr. Writers, however it wasn't Blue's Clues...it was Backyardigans.
I think some of the reasons why fans call Bloom a Mary Sue is because of two things:
1) She gets too much focus later on in the series. She may be the main character of the show, but at the same time, she doesn’t have to always save the day, especially with defeating the final boss of the season. Take Ninjago as an example. It doesn’t exactly have a specific, central main character (but it mostly comes down to probably Lloyd, who is known as both the leader and the Chosen One), yet the other characters are the one who save the day at the end of the seasons. There are seasons where other characters could have been the one who saved the day, like Aisha/Layla in season 5 and Roxy in season 7, in terms of more relations to the theme. Aisha/Layla is Tritannus’s cousin, and honestly, I feel like Tritannus should have tried to steal powers from, oh I don’t know say the most powerful fairy in the universe, than his own cousin! And Roxy is the fairy of animals, and the whole season is about animals. Do I need to say anymore?
2) Nickelodeon condensed the first two seasons into four hour-long specials, which would explain why some fans might say that Bloom gets too much screen time if they don’t know about the existence of the first two actual seasons of Winx Club. I know I would certainly think that way if I didn’t know they exist.
In terms about the talk of “tragic backstory” falling under the Mary Sue, I think the category is more along the line of the backstory only serves to make the audience sympathize and like them, rather than to give the characters more depth like motivations for the characters’ goals, explaining why they act the way they are currently, and explaining the personal connection towards the narrative and their role in the story, rather than being just shoehorned in to give characters sympathy points and to kind of emotionally manipulate us to like them despite flaws overall, character-wise and writing-wise.
SPOILER ALERT FOR THE OWL HOUSE
Luz is a pretty good example of having a tragic backstory, but it helps to serve as shape her to be the character know now. She lost her father at a young age, which explains why she tends to use fantasy as an escapism from reality, and her obsession with Azura the Good Witch is because it was the last gift she ever gotten from her father (along with just loving the series overall).
Okay Luz is my favorite Main character to exist (probably bc I haven't confirmed this yet)
Bloom was great up to season 3, after that she kind of lost her personality, but that can be said for all of the winx on the later seasons
EXACTLY. THE GOLDEN ERA ISN'T CALLED LIKE THAT FOR NOTHING
I would argue S4 Bloom wasn’t too bad. The main problem I had in 4 was her becoming the lead singer and being the only one to challenge the major fairies, and somewhat Roxy mainly befriending only Bloom, she kinda just ignores the others aside Musa. S5 and especially 6 is when she seriously got on a lot of fans’ nerves, especially with the melodramatic unnecessary relationship drama and making Diaspro into an immature toxic jealous ex who refuses to respect Sky’s feelings about Bloom and keeps stupidly thinking “If I kill Bloom, then Sky will want to marry me” 🙄
For the people in the back saying that bloom's backstory isn't tragic. Imagine growing up 16 years of your life only for your parents to tell you that you were adopted and there is no way to actually trace your birth family even if you want to connect with them. On top of that, the villians (adult males esp 👀) in the show takes advantage of you trying to find your birth parents, constantly taunt and gaslit you about their whereabouts so that they can use you for their selfish gain. Of course it's going to shape her character. I could understand her anger especially in season 3.
Rewatching winx club s1-4... that show was quite dark. Also, the way the writers wrote Bloom to be all peace and love when we all know deep down s3 bloom would have told Morgana to violently mu*der the black circle wizards with her full chest for ruining her kingdom. In fact, when Layla got mad that they killed Nabu, s3 Bloom would literally follow her to actually end Ogron. That was were the writers f-ed up with her character -taking away her blood thirsty side.
Bloom in seasons 1-3 is NOT a Mary-Sue.
In season 4, shes still pretty goos.
In seasons 5 and onward.. she's a Mary-Sue
Bloom from s5-8 def falls into Mary Sue territory which is sad. However there is this weird hobby in the fandom of treating Bloom like she is genuinely an evil person and not like she’s a victim of poor writing.
Example, people genuinely thinking Bloom let Nabu die to _punish_ Aisha. Why the HECK would Bloom do that?!?!
Even later Bloom has SOME flaws, but she’s more of a Mary Sue in that she gets everything she wants while the other girls suffer.
I will admit there are times where I think she’s a Mary Sue. But looking back I think the problem is the directors itself just focused too much on her. Yes she’s the main character and leader of the team. But they used to be rily good at giving attention to the other girls too in earlier seasons. Then after season 3 (honestly from the start of that season) there was this deep emphasis on bloom. And you can’t tell me that Musa, and Tecna had fair treatment on the show. They got pretty crap storylines. If bratz and sailer moon can still include the other supporting cast as much as the main then Winx should have been able to do it to. Not bloom’s fault, but it was annoying to me as a kid, even now looking back
RIGHT. Don't get me wrong, Bloom is my FAV character but even I can admit shoving her in everything especially in the later seasons got very very annoying because her character arc had already been complete so when she defeated Tritannus (it should've been Aisha) and when she became the leader of the band (should've been Musa) I was like: "how does this serve her character?" IT DOESNT. It just makes her more annoying. I mainly made the video debunking the mary sue claims from seasons 1-3
@@TheCartoonHotspot I totally agree. If anything I found her pretty relatable in the earlier seasons. I mean, girlie was a confused lost soul and just found out her life was a lie lmao. Did I think she had her dramatic moments? Yes. But I can hardly blame her. Such moments showed she HAD flaws as did all the girls. And I do love season 3 because I thought it was a nice end to her arc, but a part of me is salty bc despite all the girls getting enchantix I did find it a bit unfortunate that they didn’t really get to utilize their powers. Like, it felt like only bloom was destined to beat Valtor so what was the point of enchantix lmao. I mean, I do think bloom should have beaten him in the end anyway, but I do wish we saw the girls use their enchantix abilities more since that was my fav transformation. And yeah, season 4 while I liked that for once they actually all worked together and TOGETHER to defeat the wizards, kind of annoying how surprise surprise the last fairy was on earth where Bloom was from. Plus bloom became her guardian instead of all the winx club girls. And yeah, don’t even get me started on the band thing 😂 as a Musa bias I was SOOO confused. And mainly it just became annoying that every side character storyline in season 4 was about boy troubles. Season 5 definitely should have been more focused on Aisha. And like I said, Musa and Tecna got pretty crappy storylines. Musa’s whole plot after 3 just because boyfriend troubles and Tecna… man we didn’t even see much of her on her own. But yes, I love the points you brought up. It’s not Bloom’s fault. Just poor writing. Makes me think that season 3 should have been the last season of winx club (maybe season 4 just bc I love the ending and how they all worked together. Idk, the ending of season 4 to me gave me ‘okay… now it’s over’ vibes). Especially bc they were pretty much teachers in season 4 anyways sooo
To this day I have never seen another reveal that rivals the reveal of the truth to Bloom.
The way Icy delivered it was so powerful that Bloom had so much doubt in herself that she sealed her own magic away.
I say Magix winx, Charmix and Enchantix are the mainstream schooling for fairies.
However I treat Believix, sophix, Lovix, Harmonix, Sirenix, bloomix, Mythix, Butterflix, Tynix and Cosmix as optional transformation. I say the girls chose to go beyond the standard
For me Enchantix is finále form, but later transformations exist as specialisations (Enchantix Is like becoming adult. A lot of options open before you.).
I like to think of the other ones as specialisations kinda like charmix? I just wish it was made clear in the show
@@TheCartoonHotspot I appreciate the other transformations but I'm not sure why Fairy Dust was tossed out the window after Enchantix.
We are told Fairy Dust is extremely powerful and even Griffin herself states that once Faragonda achieved her Enchantix that Griffin's dark magic became basically useless against her. Fairy Dust should have been kept in all their wings from then on imo!
@@GreggTheGodFunny thing is, IT WAS. In season 4 there’s like 1 or 2 occasions where they use their fairy dust - one of those times even being to MINIATURIZE. It was Nickelodeon who came in and decided to just forget about it.
@@tobennaokoli4450 Wasted Potential~
The only good thing Nick did for the series was give it amazing voice acting.
I don't know many people who have a problem with Bloom season 1-3 (maybe even 4) the issue began when the show became centered around her and indeed dumbed down everyone around her to make her shine. She did not start as Mary Sue but became one over time
it's become a trend to hate on the main female character and it's ANNOYING.
Hey harriyanna! nice to see you here!
RIGHT
I have also kind of noticed this distaste when it comes to Eleven of Stranger Things.
Also I only watched the 4kids version of Winx Club so season 3 was the finale season for me. Are the other seasons worth a watch and which is best dub to watch?
@@jennahaas7457 If you're talking about more seasons after 3, then not really. Nickelodeon f'ed the show up. But season 4 is still decent. And I prefer RAI English, but it's your choice which dub you want to watch the show with.
I can say than Bloom's tragic backstory isn't even tragic in the traditional sense of the word. Something tragic or a trauma is something than shapes your life and much of your personality for years to come, while Bloom past is for sure tragic it didn't effect her for the first 16 years of her life, and her following will to find her birth parents is more about takeing revange on the people who caused so much harm to so much evil. Bloom is probably more traumatize from the way Dark Ray and especialy Valtor used that against her.
its not tragic? imagine growing up with parents who arent even yr parents, and yr real parents being under a spell
She was fine after Season 3. Literally. I don’t know what they were doing in Season 4. She was never my favorite, but I didn’t dislike her until Season 4.
If we’re talking about S1-S3 Bloom, then no, she is NOT a Mary Sue. While the story had more focus on her due to her origins, powers, and the villains connected to her, the other girls got their time to shine without it tying back to Bloom.
Maybe it's because I've heard from specific Winx Club "communities", but generally I've rather heard people criticize Bloom from season 4 and onward for being a Mary Sue. I respect your opinion, that you just think she is stagnant in the later season, but I would actually argue that she becomes a Mary Sue. Things are more about her and plot points and moments that should have gone to her friends went to her instead. Both small things, such as Bloom becoming the lead singer of Winx's band (like hello? Where did Musa go?) but also quite important things, such as that she ended up defeating Tritannus, when really, maybe that moment should have gone to Aisha since he was a much more personal villain to her than to any other Winx girl. It started to become more about Bloom than the Winx as a group imo.
Bloom from season 1-3 is a fine character. Not my favorite really, but certainly not a Mary Sue :)
I agree with you! There are people who claim Bloom to be a mary sue in seasons 1-3 so I made the video to debunk that. As for seasons 4-8, I do understand where people are coming from. Like i said... Bloom is just kinda... there. Which is why she kept getting shoved into situations that didn't involve her. Aisha should've had the final battle against Tritannus, Musa should still be the lead singer. Thanks for your comment :)
I never understood the Bloom hate, i don't like the Writers for throwing the other Winx aside, but blaming Bloom? It comes off as hypocritical because people who dislike her most likely really liked her during the first 3 seasons.
I think the Mary Sue accusations mainly came about post season 3 or 4, as after season 3/the movie, Bloom's arc was complete, and after that it's like they didn't know what to do with her. This was also the point where all the characters were starting to become charactertures of themselves:
Bloom=Leader/Main character (every season has to circle back to Bloom/she has to be the one to defeat the villain)
Stella=Girly girl fashionista/blond stereotype
Musa=Music (except when they form a band, then Bloom has to be the lead 'cause Bloom=Lead. Also marketing)
Flora=Wallflower basically. She's just soft spoken nature girl.
Tecna=Nerd
Aisha=Sporty
Also, off topic, but Kora? People think Kora was a Mary Sue? I mean, I don't particularly care for how her story was handled (there were some things that could have definitely been handled differently and/or taken out), but she wasn't a Mary Sue. She was more flawed than Aang and Katara combined (a bit of an over exaggeration, but you get the point).
At least Bloom's friends also get love interests, unlike Usagi's band of Sailor Guardians
who don't for some reason. (With the exception of Chibiusa with Helios being the
closest thing to a love interest. As well as Haruka and Michiru being lovers to
each other.)
every male protagonist is also a "Mary Sue"
Technically, male protagonists are Gary Stu which is the male equivalent of a Mary Sue
@@movielover609 ) true, but why aren't they called that more often......
@@movielover609 I thought they were called Marty Stu
LMAOOO
Depends on which character specifically but generally because female characters get more hate than their male counterparts
The series should've ended after The Secret of the Lost Kingdom but Rainbow SpA wanted to milk the franchise for cash! In a perfect world, Nabu would still be alive and him and Aisha would be happily married!
Really?.....People think Bloom from Winx Clue is a Mary Sue.....I never thought of her like that
Me either. I see myself in her because I have had her temper before in my life come to me and that's how I relate to her.
I found an old fansub of the first film back in the day and rediscovered it recently and it was great tbh. Definitely saved that video file when I found it again, it felt like an important chapter in her story to me
That's awesome!
Cool
I feel it's so weird that people justify hating Bloom because of how she was written in season 4-8 when the writing in those seasons were objectively bad in general it's not wasn't a situation Bloom's character going downhill to otherwise great writing all of the girls were affected by it but for example people still love Stella because she's iconic in the first 3 seasons despite the fact that she literally starts acting like a toddler in those later seasons but it is what it is I guess :/
I love Bloom. She and Flora are my favorites in Winx Club. 🙂
Thank you baddie. I’m doing my college essay on Winx 🤭
She was really loveable the first few seasons but I think that the problem was that the plot went on and on and on about the same problems about her so yeah. It's not her problem, but the story structure's.
Tbh I wish each Winx had a season that specifically focused on them or their powers. Like how 5 was supposed to focus a lot more on Leila and seeing her cousin trying to rip her family apart while she’s struggling to move past Nabu’s death. S3 kinda focused more on Stella with her becoming more confident and mature through Brandon accepting her as a frog monster to saving her father and kingdom from a tyrant. S4 kinda focused on Musa and Leila as both were pursuing their own dreams that potentially would’ve had them leave the Winx Club, Musa becoming a professional singer and FINALLY ending things with Riven, and Leila about to marry Nabu.
S1-3 are understandable why they focused more on Bloom, but after the second movie it should’ve moved on to another Winx. Its called the Winx Club, not the Bloom Show.
They just gave so many problems to Bloom so that they can put her in the spot light. I won't call her a Mary Sue. I like Bloom but I wish they can also give more attention to the other winx.
szn 1-2 bloom is amazing
szn 3 was when she went downhill when she was making the andros problem about her and domino and after that she went downhill
a character having a tragic backstory is not a Mary Sue trait, because it means they did not have a perfect upbringing/past. And a Mary Sue is supposed to be an all perfect character, so I would think they would have a perfect backstory.
S1-S3 is not a mary sue

If it is season 1 to 3 she was definitely not a Mary Sue even in season 4 she wasn’t a Mary Sue and I hated so much that Aisha boyfriend died. 😭 and Aisha even deafead bloom. The problem with season 5 is they make Daphne weak and Roxy was backgrounded 😤
Its the writers fault for making my precious firey cinnamon role 😔
Idk why but I loved bloom in the first few seasons but slowly just found her a little annoying idk why
Bloom does not qualify as a total Mary Sue. She was a pretty good protagonist in the first 4 seasons. There's a reason why she was named "Bloom" because she is a late bloomer who is yet to become more mature. This was the point of her growth in later episodes. She starts off as a short-tempered, impulsive and insecure girl who became curious of her mysterious background, but eventually becomes a tough and strong-willed teenager. She was manipulated and groomed by two villains in S2, and her Enchantix was dangerously incomplete in S3.
Sadly, Bloom's human flaws were gone in S5-S7 when the show was under Nickelodeon's management. This is where Bloom's character was ruined in the later seasons. Hopefully, the reboot will do more justice to the source material.
Bloom she's actually decent protagonist but the writer ruin her
A WINX VIDEOOO I CANT WAIT
YASS🥰💗
Well said analysis and I agree with lots of this ! I'm definitely rewatching winx now
Season 1 to 3 Bloom was EVERYTHING. I hate her Season 5 and upwards self. 🥺😟
Finally, someone that doesn’t shit on Bloom!❤
Super excited for this
❤️❤️
I think people just got tired of the writers making Bloom the main focus and not giving the other girls enough screen time to explore their backstories or character development at all. Seasons 1-3 where already pretty much Bloom centered. In season 5, I felt like it should’ve been Aisha that went up against Tritannus in the final battle. Tritannus was HER cousin that mutated 3/4of her family and people. When Tritannus he needed a fairy that fully mastered Sirenix to activate the throne, it should’ve been Bloom. Cause she’s the fairy of the dragons flame so, it would’ve made sense to use her Sirenix powers. Not to mention, Aisha never got Nabu back, Musa never got her mom back yet, Bloom was able to get her dead sister and kingdom along with her birth parents back? (I know the reckoned it to just Daphne being cursed but still). Also Roxy got the VERY short end of the stick . She was basically thrown into the background when she could’ve became a member of the group. She even called Bloom her sister. I don’t HATE Bloom.I just hate how the writers handled her and her friends.
Not to mention they purposely made Diaspro into a villain because of Bloom always getting her way. When Diaspro wasn’t evil starting off, she was just spoiled. They watered her down to the generic Spoiled Rich Kid becomes evil out of spite and jealousy trobe. Her and Bloom could’ve at least been friends instead. They could’ve made her like charlotte from Princess And The Frog. Rich, Spoiled but, looked out for Tiana and even understood that her and Naveen where in love so she called off the engagement.
in my opinion s4 is also part of the golden era
Agreed
Honestly yes! I loved them growing up!
It’s frustrating that so many female characters get smeared as Mary Sues simply because people don’t have a clear idea of what a Mary Sue is in the first place! Reading My Immortal should be a prerequisite for anyone to have the authority to call a character a Mary Sue, they’re very distinct, there’s zero doubt when you come across them.
If people are defending a character from the label it’s often because it really has been misused and the REAL complaint/accusation is from a character providing female audiences with wish fulfilment, which is obviously different to the wish fulfilment men desire - which is so ingrained in media people have become blind to its inclusion. Replace it with female wish fulfilment and suddenly a story or character is called self indulgent drivel.
This problem is compounded by
how so many additional traits have been added to what people think a Mary Sue is nowadays, despite them not inherently being Mary Sue traits, like the chosen one trope or a character having powers or just being extremely important to the plot. Otherwise this new broader definition would mean people should be decrying Luke Skywalker and Harry Potter or any other male protagonist that goes on the Hero’s Quest or has a chosen one plot as Mary Sues, when just like Bloom, they’re not.
The presence of wish fulfilment doesn’t automatically make a story or character bad, there’s many more robust frameworks to judge the quality of characters and stories than the ever expanding definition of Mary Sues.
Mary sue is just misogyny masking as criticism. That's what it was always destined to be, ever wondered how despite Men historically dominating leading roles, the idea so happened to originate from Woman?
I actually would count season 4 as part of the best seasons because I grew up watching it lol. But anything after season was ughh
Bloom tries to steal everybody's spotilight even if something doesn't even have anything to do with her. Like:
- she got herself into Aisha's family drama
- stole Musa's dream to be a lead singer
- help/fight Diana (it should have been Flora)
- steals Tecna's spotlight when everyone thought Tecna is gone in s3
- afraid Roxy will take her screentime so she forbids now Roxy to go with them on missions
- cries about freaky picnic with Sky or even says "oh no Sky doesn't love me anymore", DUDE IS A FREAKY KING HE HAS A WORK TO DO
- tells Aisha that revenge won't fix anything when she literally tried to have revenge on Valtor for what happened to Domino
- rest of Winx act "useless" for Bloom to save the day
- when someone gets some spotlight, she's either in background or faints
- she's the only who didn't lose powers (season 6, need to say why?)
- when she screws up, she goes to her parents to cry about it instead of fixing it
- she was allowed to bring back Daphne but Musa couldn't her mom or Aisha couldn't Nabu
- she's the only who defeated at least one of the Trix in dance off (season 8)
- we literally have a transformation named after her
- all three movies are focused only on her and Sky, the rest of Winx are just somewhere in the background
You sound like a child.....are you a child?
and here is my claim that Bloom isn't a Mary Sue and that is the Croatian dub of the voices of children shows in Croatia and the main characters and Mary Sues get bad voices but Bloom doesn't even in the english dub and even in 4kids Bloom gets the best voice from Liza Kaplan she gives Bloom raging fireball voice and it's golden flame
I also am generally drawn towards and sometimes a little biased towards the main characters, ESPECIALLY the female ones, who always get the most hate, which I DO understand, but still.
Didn't the show break its own rules to give her Enchantix? Isn't that a very Mary-Sue-like thing to do? And the limitations of her version of Enchantix never stopped her from performing in battle, and she still saved the day
I think the writting from somepoint in season four to onwords forces too much on Bloom and much less on the other girls in wimx club.
The show is called winx club meaning it should be forcasing Bloom as well as the others.
I peronsally didn't mind season four that much but was confused and unintrested when it went to season six.
Also they revert the girls who were suppost to be teacher assiant or finding their own path after finshing alfa back to age of students again.
Thats just what i think
Bloom is my second favourite fairy. She wasn't a mary sue during the Golden Era tbh, ESPECIALLY IN SEASON 3, THE BEST SEASON EVER.
Yes I’m so excited I love the winx! 😆
Me too🥺
AHHHH AMAZING, CAN'T WAIT FOR ANOTHER GOOD VIDEO. BLOOM SOUNDS LIKE NICE OMGG.💟💟❤❤🥰🥰
Thank you 💗💗
@@TheCartoonHotspot anytime!! Love You So Much^^
Hating on female main characters is just popular now.
And for no reason or stupid and petty excuses.
No she's my girl !!!! I love her 😭
Another great in defense of characters video. I enjoy and fun avatar korra and bloom and lot other characters. Avatar korra and bloom not mary sue characters. There lot annoying & poorly written & unlikeble modern female and unlikeble poorly written modern male characters in modern fiction in years and current day. Sometime classic characters. It's Usually person mis using & call characters mary sue or Gary sue are have strong baised & grude towards certain characters & fans. Sorry for strange comments and rush mess comments.
I can’t wait
💗💗
The most hate for bloom comes from Aisha fans. Yes, since season 4 she did become more Mary sue and boring character but let’s not forget every single character became as uninteresting.
I AGREE DUDE ITS A CHILDERN SHOW WHAT WERE THEY WAITING for I'm sorry but that's what happens in cartoons Kids get obsessed with the main character mostly and they want to see more of that character so the writers write more for Bloom so the kids stay at the show
So excited to watch this
:)
I think the only mary sue trait is related to the 'talents'. Like, being good at drawing was a very rare and cool thing, as a painter myself, I can't say how much I loved this detail. But after... Horse riding alone like if they learnt years before? Becoming a talented and famous pop ( this isn't rock ) band? Too much. The cooking side while none of them was a cook and none of them was seen learning? Same. It's details like that which can ruin characters.
My problem is Bloom's bff Stella is closer to a Mary Sue than Bloom is, that's because aside from her parents being divorced throughout Season 1-3. She literally is a blonde typical stereotype of a woman if you take away your fairy part. She's kind, she is pretty and jokes alot gets into trouble yet things go easy on her and she passes through it without a scratch. She is majorly talented more so than Bloom especially with fashion which does set her apart just a fraction from the stereotype about blondes. But Shopping has been a blonde stereotype ever since barbie life in the dreamhouse. There's a blonde who loved to shop in W.I.T.C.H show, the same thing in Totally spies and I could go on and on but I won't. There a few tv shows that don't have this generalization. In Season 1 Stella was far more wary and less naive than in later seasons. In my opinion Stella's character became more warped first. I wish we had seen more Stella like under an actual prank spell something to humanize her more. That's what what I loved about 4kids episode 9 Stella gets completely exploded out of the character we grew to know, the same thing happened to Bloom, character greowth doesn't get warped to be better it gets warped to show grow and growth of humanness as of right now I'd say Stella reminds me more of a greek goddess that the Stella I saw in the first season. Her carelessness trait that brings her anger is just missing from the rest of the show. Stella has a true writing flaw before Bloom did. She's too friendly and perfect. Season 4 StellaI absolutely do not like She's just condescending towards Roxy and stuck in the same old love story triangle thank goodness Bloom didn't do that with Sky she was mad but she didn't ignore him, her wants or wishes and she took time to think over her decisions and thoughts she said and even told the girls she thought she had been a bit harsh. (Does nobody remember that moment in Season 4, Bloom thinks pretty deeply so much so in fact she overthinks and it brings her trouble more trouble than good it tires her out so much it is seen in Season 1-3 and 4. In fact her power as the Dragonfire is so difficult to control as it is vastly beyond her control and quiet a strain she wouldn't want to use it consistently as it has made her ill way before Season 6. Season 2 is the best example right after Cloudtower she was so tired from using so much energy in that backfired convergence magic she couldn't even a blast a rock boulder to pieces and her body looked like it had a growing pale tint to it sleep deprivation. Bloom goes through stages of over thinking which leads her into depression and finally not being able to sleep well this continues into the first movie. But in order for Dark Bloom to enter her she had to be at her lowest mental state. You keep failing over and over again would you want someone to say you it'd be all right or okay repeatedly? I wouldn't knowing worst comes before the best. Stella's personality disappeared before Bloom's ever did. Which is sad because Stella made the whole franchise start and I cannot condone making her a good role model because she has been slapped into a generalization mold for stereotypical blonde girls.
whats the instrumental playing in the back?
I remembered Ninjago and noticed atleast most of the main charaters stop the main villains of each season, first was lloyd, then zane, Gamadon, then Nya, then Jay, then it was Nya and Kai.
I don't remenber the other seasons but Cole also atleast stop a villain from using his army by destory a magical skull on his own.
What i am saying these guys was giving the each the chance to aleast beat a villain that seem connect to them in a way, on their own unlike in winx club.
That what I think anyways
honestly, i hate the usage of the word "mary sue". i mean, no character can be so overly complex and flawed.
Mary Sue is too strong of a word for her. The thing is not the issue with Bloom herself, but the way everything is about her in the show. The show shouldn't have been named winx club in that case. That takes away from what winx club really is. I really wish there could have been seasons focusing on each girl's story. Bloom is the main character, and I love it. But the writers didn’t t portray her "main-ness" well. Sometimes the spotlight needs to be on others because the main character knows she's the one, she doesn’t have to always show it. About her being a Mary Sue, no she's not. She has her flaws. Yes the later seaons are pretty bad, but that’s the show! Bloom herself is cool. I agree she acts nonsensical at times but you know, that’s the writers' fault.
My fave isn’t Bloom though (she's a second). I love Stella, and I believe she owns her main character energy so well, unlike Bloom.
someone who defended bloom
İ love her only in Season 1
Bloom is the best. I love her❤.
Tbh she not a Mary sue people find the dumbest reason to hate her e.g when helia was frozen people said it was bloom fault for not melting the ice but Daphne said it can’t be melt by fire another time when nabu was dead fans hate her bc she can’t heal him but guess what he in a coma how could bloom wake someone up from coma you guys find the dumbest reason to hate a character and she ain’t a Mary sue just terrible victim of writing.
To be honest I never really liked bloom I only liked her powers and that's all🙂 and i have my reasons 🙂
I agreed Bloom isn't Mary Sue.
Agreed
They have one choice to fix her in the new season or I'm gonna hate her forever
People saying: "it's not her, it's the writing" 🤦♀️ you do realise it's the writing right ? She's not real in case you don't know, she's a poorly written character, when we says stuff about her we obviously mean the writers, and yes no need to go after who doesn't like your favourite character because in this case they're right, you only defend her because of the emotions, she was fine in the first 3 seasons ( not really in the third one ) and then because the writers noticed she's the favourite of a lot of people they made everything about her even when it's not, they made her the lead singer in season 4 after they've been talking about how musa dreams of a singing career for episodes 🤦♀️ and she's not the leader of the group, there's no leader they're friends and that's it
WHACK THEM AGAIN GEE 🔥
I would Elena Gilbert is the most hated female protagonist
I really dislike the Rai English voice actresses, they speak with little to no emotion, where as the NickDub actors/actresses speak with a ton of emotion and energy to each match their character perfectly. Rainbow Productions should have never been given Winx rights. NickDub did the Winx justice, Rai English was a joke.
Bloom has the spark that created the universe and all she uses it is for some mid fire magic. I think tecna post season 6 could use the dragon flames potential to its fullest extent
Not really. It's just the lack of the writers not showing her full potential just like the rest of the winx. Teenagers is fine on her own.
nah shes still mary sue just admit it stop the denial pls xD
I don't hate her because she's a main character i just don't like how they don't make her interesting they just give her other characters screen time because they can't figure out what to do with her
Like the fact that she has healing powers but flora is the nature fairy and it suit her better or the fact that through out s5 or s6 i think they have smth like a band and instead of musa singing being the fairy of music it's bloom
Mmmno … she is a mary sue.
Well said analysis and I agree with lots of this ! I'm definitely rewatching winx now
