The whole Dirt Album can be played from start to finish without skipping any song. It's that good. We Die Young, Sea Of Sorrow, Man in the Box. Unplugged version of Nutshell Yes they came out during the grunge movement but technically wasn't grunge. They were actually considered more hard rock than anything. Awesome band, still one of my go to bands to listen to when I drive.
Them Bones, Sick man , Rooster, Dirt Would , Man in the Box, Grind, what the Hell Have I, Rotten Apple, Don't Follow, and so many more You have each lot of reactions to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alice In Chains was one of the most popular and successful of the grunge bands in the early 90’s. They have a huge catalog of songs you can check out, including “Grind”, “Would?”, “Man In the Box”, “Heaven Beside You”, “Again”, and many more.
Alice in Chains was before Nickleback - they were huge fans of Alice in Chains... In fact, Jerry Cantrell (guitarist/ vocalist/ songwriter) of Alice in Chains opened for Nickleback on tour in the 2000's... 'Down in a hole' was from Alice in Chains' 1992 album 'Dirt'... a record largely written about the dark world of he+++n addiction... the song was Jerry Cantrell's sad ode to the woman he loved but couldn't be with; lyrically, it alluded to someone desperately craving someone like a drug... They did perform 'Down in a hole' acoustically in 1996 on 'MTV Unplugged'. Some of Alice in Chains' heavy tracks include - 'Man in the box'... 'Would?' ... 'Again' ... 'Them bones' ... 'Love, hate, love'... 'Rooster'... while some of their slower, acoustic tracks include - 'Got me wrong'... 'No excuses'... 'Heaven beside you'... 'Nutshell'... 'I stay away'... Sadly, Alice in Chains has a tragic history... Formed in Seattle, Washington by Layne Staley (vocals), Jerry Cantrell (guitar & vocals), Sean Kinney (drums) and Mike Starr (bass)... in the 80's, the band was signed in 1990 and released their debut album 'Facelift'... It sounded like nothing around them at the time - dark, heavy... a mix of early Black Sabbath's heavy grooves, Pink Floyd's eerie influence, and their trademark dual vocal harmonies w/ Layne Staley's bluesy vocals and Jerry Cantrell's lighter vocals. Alice in Chains toured actively into 1992... but early on, both Layne Staley and Mike Starr were using he+++n, which was an epidemic in Seattle. They also released a 4-song acoustic EP 'Sap' in 1991. They did not want to be exclusively a heavy rock band. With Nirvana and Seattle grunge rock breaking big commercially in 1991, the focus fell on bands like Pearl Jam... Soundgarden... Alice in Chains... etc. Alice in Chains released their 2nd album 'Dirt' in 1992 and it broke big on radio and MTV, eventually selling 5x platinum (5 million copies) in the US, while 'Facelift' sold 3x platinum... Unfortunately, bassist Mike Starr was fired in 1993 due to his addiction affecting his live performances... and he was replaced by Mike Inez (bass), who appeared in the music video for 'Down in a hole'. Returning to Seattle in 1993 from touring, the band recorded a semi acoustic EP 'Jar of Flies'... which went to #1 on the US charts and sold 4x platinum... However, tour plans for '94 were canceled due to Layne Staley's drug problems... Layne recorded an album as Mad Season - their only album 'Above' was released in 1995... That year, Alice in Chains returned w/ their self-titled album, which charted at #1 again and sold 2x platinum... They made music videos but refused to tour. In 1996, Alice in Chains performed on MTV 'Unplugged' but Layne Staley was clearly struggling... the band opened 4 shows for the rock band Kiss in the Summer of '96... Layne survived an OD after the last show; he never performed live again... His longtime girlfriend Demri Parrott died from drug-related complications and Layne Staley lost all hope. In 1998, Layne agreed to record 2 new songs for an Alice in Chains boxed set 'Music Bank' released in 1999... and he was in bad shape. Still, he completed 2 of his last songs reflecting his dark mood - 'Get born again'... and 'Died'... Jerry Cantrell released his solo album 'Boggy Depot' in 1998... With Alice in Chains on hiatus, he recorded another solo album 'Degradation trip' in 2002. In 2002, Layne Staley was found dead in his Seattle apartment from an apparent OD... Former Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr passed away in 2011 from a prescription drug OD. In 2005, Jerry Cantrell performed a charity gig w/ Sean Kinney and Mike Inez and they talked about reforming Alice in Chains... In 2006, Alice in Chains announced a reunion tour w/ new singer William DuVall performing Layne Staley's songs ... They eventually released a comeback album in 2009 - 'Black gives way to blue'... It was followed in 2013 by the album 'The Devil put dinosaurs here' ... and 'Rainier Fog' in 2018. Alice in Chains is still touring actively. Newer songs w/ vocalist William DuVall by Alice in Chains - 'Check my brain'... 'A looking in view'... 'Stone'... 'Your decision'... Recently, Jerry Cantrell released his 3rd solo album 'Brighten' in 2021... and his 4th solo album 'I want blood' due out in 2024.
Jerry is one rock star that has always stood up for Nickelback. In a documentary he said "Those guys go out and give it all every night" I'm not A Nickelback fan but they do what they do. and some of it is pretty catchy.
Excellent write up! I just posted a bunch of songs above for her to check out too, and I can’t believe I forgot Them Bones, it’s one of my favorites, but they just have too many great songs to list them all.
I appreciate that there was some retraction for that initial statement, because attempting to compare Alice in Chains to Nickel Back is like comparing a classic Mustang to a beat-up Pinto. One has style, and capability. The other is a waste of time and resources.
Glad to see one of my suggestions in a video. Loved your take on it. The lyrics are definitely depressing, but it's such an amazing song. Don't worry they have a lot of more rocking songs, too. "We Die Young", "Would?", "Them Bones" "Rain When I Die", "Sludge Factory" are only some of their other amazing songs. Some are slow but heavy still. Nice reaction!
Best band ever... this has a different bassist post '93 Both Layne Staley lead singer and Mike Starr bassist have since passed away....pls never compare them to anyone 🤘💔
I know others here in your comments have said it but Alice in Chains is my favorite band of all time and I'm 57 , I was around when they got their start and still LOVE them today . Please go further into Alice in Chains and enjoy !
YESSSS!! I never clicked so quickly . They are the GOATS of grunge! But you really should have done the live MTV Unplugged version! It’s much more visceral and raw!
No I thought the same thing too but Jerry wrote it about his ex-girlfriend. Sure does fit really really well in Laynes life, he sings it like he wrote about himself. Probably was doing that especially in the unplugged version
Ah, good choice. I want you to dive in to another one of their songs called, 'Would?'. Trust me, the dark guitars and the ethereal vocals deliver. The pain and emotion is all in the man's voice.
Im a Gen X and had the privilege of witnessing the hair bands of the 80s, 90's the birth of grunge. Saving my Summer job money and buying cassettes of my favorite band's it was a magical time and place if you grew up in that era. Seriously check out a song called Black Hole Sun Thanks again 🇨🇦
Thank you for actually listening to the studio version. Everyone always listens to the unplugged version. Which I believe isn't as good as this version.
Yep, I love their Unplugged set, but I think people should always listen to studio versions first no matter what. It’s the way the songs were meant to be discovered.
Everyone will request Nutshell and rightfully so but do the audio from the album. The live is great but the sound of the album version can be touched. Also the guitar solo at the end is a top 10 for me. just hits different
"This is meaningful". Yes, it is. Rock and Metal music are all about meaning. The musicianship, songwriting, storytelling and exploration of themes are all core to this vast genre of music.
I would consider this to be equal to their other more famous song "Rooster", also from their album "Dirt" which Jerry Cantrell called their Dark album.
I love when you react to a song for the first time and immediately pick up on the sound and hear it's influence in newer music. While Nickleback will never be on the same level as Alice in Chains, they definitely were influenced by them. Hearing the influence that one band has on another throughout the generations and across generas is one of my favorite parts of music. "Are rock guys actually sweet?" Definitely, the harsh sound of rock music has disguised a lot of some of the deepest and most heartfelt lyrics in music. Not always of course, but a surprising amount of the time rock music is just poetry to electric guitar.
Not sure if you had listened to any of these songs before, but these are really good. ☆ Alice in Chains - Rooster ☆ Alice in Chains - Man in the Box ☆ Alice in Chains - Them Bones ☆ Alice in Chains - No Excuses ☆ Alice in Chains - We Die Young ☆ Alice in Chains - Heaven Beside You ☆ Alice in Chains - Again ☆ Alice in Chains - Would? ☆ Metallica - Sad But True ☆ Metallica - Am I Evil? ☆ Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls ☆ Metallica - Don't Tread On Me ☆ Metallica - Through The Never ☆ Metallica - Fuel ☆ Ozzy Osbourne - I Don't Wanna Stop ☆ Ozzy Osbourne - Over the Mountain ☆ Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train ☆ Ozzy Osbourne - No More Tears ☆ Ozzy Osbourne - Mr. Tinkertrain ☆ Ozzy Osbourne - Mama, I'm Coming Home ☆ Creed - One Last Breath ☆ Creed - Higher ☆ Creed - What If ☆ Creed - With Arms Wide Open ☆ Creed - My Sacrifice ☆ Creed - Torn ☆ Creed - One ☆ Creed - What's This Life For
Give No Excuses a try! Or I Stay Away, or Don't Follow..really anything from Jar of Flies is great. AIC is like in my top 3 all time favorites, thank you for giving them a try, and glad you liked it!
My favorite song is "WHAT THE HELL HAVE I, on THE LAST ACTION HERO soundtrack, and MAN IN THE BOX is pretty good too, it's their BREAKOUT HIT that BLEW THEM UP, and SEA OF SORROW
Bleed the freek. Would, Them bones, angry chair, nutshell, rooster, man in the box, love hate love. Layne some say had one of the best range Voices in the game.
AIC is 1 of my favorite 3 bands all time. Man in the Box, Love Hate Love, Born Again, Nutshell either version, Rooster. New singer for AIC any song from Black Gives Way to Blue album is great. Personal favorite Private Hell. Your comment finding a rock man. Something to consider you've been listening to it enough. Rock is very passionate weather extreme or gentle Already listened 3 times while I send emails. AIC is trance music. I have to cut you off and put on Spotify dammit.
You are not wrong about being confused on the lyrics and meaning. I always thought the song was about some type of depression/substance abuse.... but there are parts that made me think...ok it's about a one sided love/relationship. So I had to look up the song background and according to the talented Jerry Cantrell, it was about an ex-girlfriend. So you are on the right path. Great song choice by the way.
In rock music, whether it is hard rock, grunge, metal, etc. You should always try to check the lyrics. Most of the time there is a message and it is good.
Layne is known by the majority of rock artists and fans alike as the greatest vocalist of all time;)- If you start listening to these guys you’ll find out why.
As a musician my self. I’ve played live, toured. This is their baby. These song take months to create. There is no intention to cause fear. It’s just message they want the listener to feel.
Just found your channel. Being a Tejano ( mexican texan) I would love to be a part of your metal Journey. Being a Gen X, I would love to introduce you to some great JamZZZZ.
Alice in Chains is one of the five top Grunge bands of the 90s, and always competing for number one spot with Pearl Jam. You had Pearl Jam, Alice, SoundGarden, Nirvana, and Stone Temple Pilots. All lead singers have passed on, except Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder. If you want to discover 90s Grunge, this is where you start.
You should do Alice In Chains love hate love live at the Moore. You should also do some of the MTV unplugged version of Alice in chains songs, including down in a hole.
Very little of Alice is happy music. But that's what makes it great. Everyone needs to vent or wallow in their shit every now and then. Alice is great for that. Also because it's real. The lyrics and emotion are not artificial. They had troubles and the story is told in the lyrics.
The Big 4 of Grunge are Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam You should check out the other two you haven't reacted too. All these bands singers are legendary.
I'm planning to attend several upcoming rock concerts. I live in Houston, Texas, but not all of the bands are coming here, so I’ll even have to travel to Europe to see one of them. If I remember correctly, you asked whether the concerts for Pantera's song "Cowboys from Hell" are really like that, and yes, they can be, depending on which concert you attend. It’s always a good idea to bring a male friend, brother, or cousin with you if you decide to go.
Back in the Creep STP comments i said id get u a few songs..here ya go..."Santeria" by Sublime,"Smells like Teen Spirit" and"You know youre right" by Nirvana,"The Pot" by Tool,"EvenFlow" Live performance by Pearl Jam to start
I did like Nirvana, but Alice in Chains were my favorite Grunge band. Followed by Soundgarden. Alice in Chains LOVE HATE LOVE. A haunting song. Very Haunting.
For something more heavier Alice check out their songs Man in the Box or Them Bones for more softer songs check out Nutshell or No Excuses or Rooster or Heaven Beside You
Alice In Chains - "Love, Hate, Love" Trust me, you won't regret checking out the lyrics and watching the performance. Most likely, it will be the live version, which is definitely the one you should react to. Just take a look at the lyrics and the emotion in the performance-you won't be disappointed.
This is about the struggle Layne of spiraling down due to drugs. when he says his wings are denied, he's asking to die. it's a very sad story. If you watch the MTV unplugged version, you can see the pain in his eyes and hear it in his voice.
...God knows I miss him. He and Chris Cornell are the best 2 singers, any genre of the past 50 years. Neither did falsetto 😮😮😮Chris could cover any song better than the original. Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, anyone. Chris does a cover u need to hear. Type in here, live studio version, nothing compared to u, Chris Cornell. Bring tissues! See my icon here? I'm proly doing ,Rooster, by Alice in chains. Make sure u watch the official video version! Chris was with Soundgarden, audio slave, and his tribute band with pearl jam. Type in here, Hunger strike! I miss them both so much, I sing pretty much all their songs, karaoke! They died so young. Sadly, Layne knew it early. On their first or second album, he does a song called, Don't Follow. It's tho he knew... Their live MTV unplugged series, is proly the most popular all time. And he was so high, he fell out his chair a couple times, but still put on a singing masterpiece!!
RIP Layne Staley a pioneer a legend a true rocker i miss the 90s grunge music is amazing Nirvana Alice In Chains Pearl Jam SoundGarden AudioSlave nowadays u have SEETHER definitely a band worth a listen Shaun's voice is so soothing I'd recommend Driven Under Remedy Sold Me Truth Gasoline basically any Seether song is a banger one day id love to go to a rock concert wit u Mia ive been to a ton of concerts over the years so much fun especially metal concerts ❤ u are such a hottie Mia & u love rock music? A woman after my own heart keep doing u girl never ever change
@@JacobNovak-e8s I miss all my heroes. I am glad there are reactors like Mia keeping their music and memory alive. That's all I really want is to watch their songs bring joy to people's faces again.
Seeing Alice In Chains live in concert was EPIC. Comparing Nickleback to Alice In Chains should be a crime 😂😂😂
@@Forzaenjay we all kinda jumped on her for that comment.. we're sorry 😉she knows now 🤘🇨🇦
I know they aren't similar but Nicoleback hate is overrated and uncessary. Shitknot and disturbed should be more hated than NKB
Seen them for the only time after Lane died in Dayton, Ohio
Alice in chains and Nickelback shouldn’t be used in the same sentence…EVER!
It’s giving. Called grunge. Nickel back. Can NEVER compare.
Nickle-Wack.
Wait.. what?
Nickel back and bands like Creed were Knockoffs of the original great Grunge Bands Nickel back was more of a Pop Rock music
The audacity
Yikes!!!😬
Alice in Chains is the best grunge band and one of the best bands all time.
I concur councilor
Fuck Soundgarden
The whole Dirt Album can be played from start to finish without skipping any song. It's that good.
We Die Young, Sea Of Sorrow, Man in the Box. Unplugged version of Nutshell
Yes they came out during the grunge movement but technically wasn't grunge. They were actually considered more hard rock than anything.
Awesome band, still one of my go to bands to listen to when I drive.
"See my heart? I decorate it like a grave." Whoa! They had the greatest MTV Unplugged ever, IMO. These guys were so good acoustically.
their unplugged versions of this and "nutshell" are incredible and in my opinion better than the originals.
100% truth
ARE YOU KIDDING ME REALLY???... LAYNE WAS OUT OF HIS MIND!!! FORGETTING WORDS TO SONGS.!!! SHOOTING DOPE IN BETWEEN SETS!! GO FIGURE
why would u want someone whos never heard aic before to listen to a acoustic set

This is my favorite band of all time, And I prefer this studio recording over the UNPLUGGED performance. Great SONG
Alice and chains. Live at the Moore. Song. Love Hate Love. Life changing song.
YES !
Need to watch them perform this song and their song Nutshell live at MTV UNPLUGGED
Yeah you're gonna love Alice in chains
My favorite song of all time, the unplugged version gave me goosebumps. RIP Layne.

alice in chain UNPLUGGED! Its a whole different vibe
The singer died from OD'ing on heroin. When they found his body he weighed like 85lbs. There is a sweetness AND darkness in his lyrics.
Your voice is soothing and warm, your eyes are mesmerizing, and your overall look is stunning

Also, the dirt album is a story. So you have to listen to the whole album from the beginning
As a musician my self. I’ve played live, toured. This is their baby. These song take months to create. There is no intention to cause fear. It’s just message they want the listener to feel.
It's sad it's depressing, but it's very good especially the unplugged version it's worth a reaction
AIC is a vibe, what a great band 🙌
Nickel back? 🤣🤣🤣 Nickel back wished! HAHAHAHA!!!!
With metal, it's all about the lyrics and not the visuals. Much deeper than pop or rap. Enjoy your reactions.
My interpretation of this song is being stuck in a rut of depression and addiction which ended up claiming the life of Layne
The Big 4 of Grunge are Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam
You should check out the other two you haven't reacted too.
All these bands singers are legendary.
sad that only eddie vedder is alive of those 4 lead singers...i would never want to be famous because of the pressure alone..
@@airfawkies2 she might like Stone Temple Pilots too 🤘🇨🇦
I'm planning to attend several upcoming rock concerts.
84 times more talent in Alice in Chains then Nickleback.
You gotta see the Live MTV Unplugged version of this song
My fav song by Alice In Chains is Again or Rooster.
I did like Nirvana, but Alice in Chains were my favorite Grunge band. Followed by Soundgarden. Alice in Chains LOVE HATE LOVE. A haunting song. Very Haunting.
For something more heavier Alice check out their songs Man in the Box or Them Bones for more softer songs check out Nutshell or No Excuses or Rooster or Heaven Beside You
Alice In Chains - "Love, Hate, Love"
Trust me, you won't regret checking out the lyrics and watching the performance. Most likely, it will be the live version, which is definitely the one you should react to. Just take a look at the lyrics and the emotion in the performance-you won't be disappointed.
See babe I’m telling you there is some rock like that’s slower that is good you just gotta find the good ones I’m glad your enjoying it❤
Mia, quite a few people have said it but you really should check out the Unplugged versions of this song, Nutshell, or Rooster. 🤙🏼
It's giving Nickelback a lesson in Seattle grunge, they never studied. Man in the box.
You gotta check out nutshell and rooster, mtv unplugged. Thus was an iconic performance. And then love hate love live from the Moore
I agree with you 💯 percent on everything you say throughout this I live how we think alike❤
This is about the struggle Layne of spiraling down due to drugs. when he says his wings are denied, he's asking to die. it's a very sad story. If you watch the MTV unplugged version, you can see the pain in his eyes and hear it in his voice.
You should check out Soundgarden they are one of the best grunge bands (and my personnal favorite)
Yes "The day i tried to live" "Mailman" "Outshined" "Jesus Christ Pose" "Rusty Cage" "Limo Wreck" "Burden in my hand" "Slaves and bulldozers" ect ect
Great reaction from a beautiful woman to a beautiful (if depressing) song....a happier hit by Alice In Chains is I Stay Away.
Nah the unplugged performance is gas
She just like me “I like the drums” 😂
...God knows I miss him.
10000% you need to do Alice in chains “nutshell” unplugged 🤯
"Man in the box" I know you have heard it.
DIRT is the name of the ALBUM this song is on
Great band good choice. I recommend any that have already suggested.
