Revive your cuttings and boost your gardening success with these expert propagation tips! No more waterlogged soils - switch to the sand propagation method for high humidity and pest-free growth. Keep your cuttings thriving with consistent temperatures, ideally around 70°F. Avoid dramatic swings that can hinder root development. Ensure your soil is well-draining; mix in perlite or vermiculite to promote healthy roots. Tackle low humidity effortlessly; a simple Ziploc or cut soda bottle can maintain ideal moisture levels for soil methods. Say goodbye to gnats and their larvae with sand - the sterile, larvae-proof alternative. Master these essentials for propagation perfection. Just finding your channel, I've been rooting/growing figs on/off for 25 yrs now. My biggest struggle, seems to be knowing the proper time to up pot a rooted cutting AND when to transition it out of the humidity chamber........any tips on those two stages??? I've lost so many cuttings these last few years since relocating to the mid-south that I've almost talked myself into giving it up.
Good informative and educational video. Thanks for sharing. Hope you have a good Thanksgiving.
Thanks! You just answered my earlier comment this morning to you 👍
Have you ever tried using Grodan Grow Cubes, the size of salad croutons? Grodan is very hard to over water and when mixed with soilless medium, one can grow very large plants in small containers.
I haven’t! I’ll have to test it out!
I’m getting roots with the sand method. But…when and how do I transfer to the next step?
If you are using the sand method is lighting required?
No lighting is required. It’s actually preferable to remove light during this process.
What if you add a 1/2" layer of sand on top of your soil to stop the nats?
Worth testing out! The other benefit of sand propagation is the moisture control is so much easier, which in turn helps with rooting rate. It’s also just so easy to do that it’s literally a no brainer for me.
@@PlantFanaticsso after root propagation-- pot in in sand and vermiculite? What about fertilizer how to, and how much, any recommendations if I go this route?
When someone comes out with a new method they need to explain it from start to finish with all details after cuttings root. This is unfortunately not easy to adopt without more details on how to transition rooted plants out of humidity and into soil.
We have many videos showing the entire process in detail. From rooting to potting.
@PlantFanatics please mention that part 2 is already recorded. Without context someone new to your channel wouldn't know.
