- The beginning of a 10 day trip in Algonquin Provincial Park. Day 1. Mark Rubino and Iain Murphy finally get to head out on their 10 day trip starting from Access #27 (Brent), Cedar Lake. They deal with waves and rain as they head up the Petawawa River over a series of portages into Catfish Lake. On the way, Mark and Iain check out the two biggest water falls in the park and mention some of the history behind one of them. They tackle the infamous "Unicorn Hill" with its steady climb up into Narrowbag Lake. They also find one of the three remains of alligators in Algonquin Provincial Park. The guys stay on Catfish Lake for the night and have a meat filled supper.

Just found your channel tonight. What a great adventure. Thank you for taking us along.
Thanks so much for watching!
LMAO I just got to the 22 min part - aw that slow mo was perfect..
We need season 3 Matt!!!, make it happen brother!
I tried, don’t you worry. Sadly, the funds dried up and they moved on.
90 minutes is not bad for going up unicorn hill with a camera crew! So thankful for this show. Some of my favorite canoe trips in the park have been out of Cedar Lake into the surrounding areas.
It's a beautiful area of the park. Glad you're enjoying the series!
Mark reminds me of Seth Rogen lol but this series is fun to watch and great dynamic between the two. Professionally done and excellent movie.
Haha! Thanks for tuning in 😊
Allo, late to the party guys but living the shows.

Paul 19.44 gmt Uk cheers
Thanks Paul! Thanks for tuning in
Looks good. Quite the adventure.
Thanks!
It was fun to see our car in the parking lot at the access point. We were quite a few days ahead of you, but still kept hoping we might spot ourselves in the video (vanity!). After Burntroot though, our paths diverged. We went back out through Whiskey Jack and the Nippissing. That weather though...
Nice! Too bad we didn't cross paths. Don't know about you but I think we saw three campers the whole trip. Excluding the rangers. Not many people out. That wind for days was annoying! Hopefully you were on Nipissing when it hit.
We were camped on the Anchor Island site the 6,7, & 8th of September. Also visited the alligator and the depot remains. It was so fun to see those spots in you video. We took a day trip over to La Muir too. After that we headed north after that. We hit some major wind on Friday, the 13ths on Cedar Lake to paddle out... was the scariest open water crossing I've done, for sure. I think that was the same day in your video when you all were trying to get to Hogan and had to take refuge on La Muir.
That's pretty cool! We were just a few days apart. Good to know you went to La Muir as it's a beautiful lake. Cedar is always windy but I can't imagine going across it in that wind! We did little hops point to point and that was hard, I can't imagine how bad it would have been for you.
Amazing footage... Great Episode #2... love seeing the history of the park and from a great vantage point of Mark... Dennis, Canoehound Adventures
Thanks Dennis!
I'm loving this series......on to the next episode.......Take care, Bluefin.
Great to hear! It only gets better 👍
Great series
Thanks!
Nice start for your first day, looking forward to the rest of the series.
Thanks Chris!
OMgosh! What a great start! I can't wait to watch the other episodes! The pork looked absolutely delicious. How long did you cook it for? Next canoe trip, I think I will make the same thing but with a jerk marinade!
Not sure but it felt like forever! Jerk marinade would taste amazing!
This part went by way too fast .... craving more videos ! Meal planning 101 added to our list: mini potatoes and pork tenderloin !!!
It was so good. Make sure to marinate the tenderloin for amazingness!
Great episode guys. Looking forward to watching the rest of your journey. Quick question, how heavy is the canoe you are paddling? My kayak weights 60 lbs, and there is no way I could carry it 2.3kms.
Thanks Paul! The canoe, along with camera attachments and safety kit weighs about 40 to 44 pounds. A 17 foot Swift Keewaydin with kevlar trim weighs 37 pounds by itself. Swift makes amazing canoes and the weight makes it really easy to get up onto the shoulders!
39 lbs Paul.
Love the video but it makes me sad that we cant go this year.
Thanks! Makes me sad that we can't go either. It will make it that more special when we get the go-ahead!
I'm curious: Why did you opt to go up the Petawawa rather than the other way around the loop?
A couple reasons: 1. we wanted the first night to be on a familiar lake (Catfish) with a relatively short tripping day. 2. Prevailing winds are often from the NW and doing the loop counter-clockwise gave us the best chance at avoiding head winds on big lakes. 3. We were going downhill / down river between Burntroot and Radiant. That being said, I’ve done a similar loop in the opposite direction also! Either way works!

Who’s filming you?!
That would be me!
Is the person filming carrying their own canoe, food barrel and pack by themselves??
I carried the canoe, pack and cameras for the whole trip. My assistant carried the other two packs, paddles and tripod. Beast mode for 10 days!
@@MattHaughn should be an Olympic sport haha! I really enjoy the series, is Mark In the Park just something you decided to create on UA-cam or were you approached by a studio? This seems like a lot of production value and gives me Discovery Channel vibes
No kidding! I was dead after the series 😂 I created the show and approached Rogers TV with the concept. They liked it and the rest is history! I’m flattered by your comment, thank you!!!
