  • Safety Bound in Algonquin. Day 4. The bad weather is here and that makes it hard for Mark and Iain to traverse from Burntroot Lake all the way to the east end of Hogan Lake (Parks Bay) for the night. They battle headwinds all day not knowing what is around each bend. Mark talks to Iain about safety in the event of flipping the canoe because of strong winds and waves. An unexpected amount of rain hits the guys moments after setting up camp which creates problems in tent placement. The guys have AlpineAire Cheese Enchilada Ranchero for supper. Sit back, relax and enjoy!

    The weather is here! It's a rough one. Hopefully everyone has been keeping healthy and keeping the mind busy. For now, sit back, relax and disconnect from the current world situation. Check out Mark's website www.markinthepark.com for trip logs and his own guiding service. Special thanks to Algonquin Outfitters, Ontario Parks and Unlostify Maps for their support!

    Nice, Cheese Enchilada Ranchero is my personal favourite, to each their own. It does really help to shake it up though. Enjoyed the video. Cheers, Nathan

      Mixing it up is key! The second bag tasted much better.

    Looking forward to tuning in tomorrow night with my son. We are both really enjoying the series. Very good mix of scenery shots, history of the park and tidbits of advice. Mark’s passion for the park is quite evident. Something that my son and I can relate to. 🛶 🏕
    Love the disconnect moments 👍👍 almost like being there!

    Great series so far! I recognize this wind and I believe it's Friday Sept 13th 2019? If so I was also paddling in this same wind. We were supposed to put in at Smoke Lk but it was intense so we switched up and put in at Cache. (more protected) weather turned sour and the wind wouldn't let up. Great that you got to experience this.

      You are correct on the date. It blasted us all day!

    You’ve had this canoe improperly trimmed the entire time, especially for paddling into the wind.

    I'm not sure if you get these texts comments without subscribing. But you're definitely right the scene where you had to move the tent it's definitely not a good idea to stay and wake up with everything soaked. Cuz, I have experience in that. One year when I was a teenager we went camping dad slept outside underneath the awning I slept in a tent mom and brother were inside the trailer. I did not know that Dad went in I woke up screaming dad's name not knowing what the hell happen. It was actually a little scary when you're not expecting it.

      That must of been a scary moment! When it starts to flood, it happens quick.

    Another great episode Mark, Iain and Matt. The videos never really show the waves right. They always look smaller on video from my experience. One thing you really have to check before you get into the canoe is that your PFD is buckled and zipped up. At about the 17:34 you can see that the buckle is fastened but you forgot the zipper Iain. I have the same PFD and you would not want to fall in the water with your PFD like that. Oh and Friday September 13 was my Birthday! Always a great day!

      You got that right! I will be sure to tell Iain to zipper up his PFD next time.

    Missed the premiere, watching now. Must have been tough for you, Matt soloing into the wind? The tent in question was fine when she was in Woodland CaribouPP just weeks previously.. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ nice vid, bud!

    What are you using to keep rain of the beautiful Sony ?

    • @MattHaughn
      @MattHaughn  2 роки тому

      I used a Portabrace rain cover meant for a PMW-200. The fit was alright but I should have used a plastic bag. After so much rain, water went through the fabric and the camera got a bit wet because of that.
