There are many ways to cope with mental health. One of them is having a pet. Let us know what pet you own and how have your pets been helping your mental health?
Pets, especially dogs and cats, can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, ease loneliness, encourage exercise and playfulness, and even improve your cardiovascular health. Caring for an animal can help children grow up more secure and active. Pets also provide valuable companionship for older adults.👍
True but it’s hard work. Having pets is a lifestyle not a hobby. Unfortunately, some pets end up in homes where they are treated like toys and thus neglected and/or abused. Love your pets and care for them like you would care for a human.

As someone who recently got a puppy last week, I can say that my mental health has improved significantly. My fur baby has given me something to love, fight for, and care for. It also gave my parents and I something to bond over, since previously our relationship wasn’t too great at one point. Pets are such a gift
I could literally sit here and write a book about how my dog changed my life. How I formed a deeper connection with him than I've even felt with my own family members and friends. There was communication and understanding without words. A simple look or nod was the only messages we needed to know what the other was expecting. Honestly I think the most pure form of happiness in my life was quiet off leash hikes together just the two of us.
My parents said they were gonna adopt a puppy soon, they don’t know that i’m going thru alot rn, i hope this future puppy of ours will help my mental health. i’m taking this video as a sign :)
You'll be surprise! Dogs are also the best pets to have. They tend to understand our emotions so well. They will always want your attention, love and cuddles :P. I hope you'll get your puppy soon! - Cindy

My pet dog sleeps more than your cat and during the hours she is not sleeping, she ignores me as if I'm embarassing her in front of her furry friends 😂😂😅
I remember one time I was feeling rlly sad and it was a rough time for me and my dog took one look at me and he’s usually rlly energetic and dosent stay still never he went on my lap and sat on me for 2 entire hours and I was so shocked it’s a moment I’ll treasure forever
Got my beagle puppie 2 years ago that angel on four legs changed my life and saved it as well. I owe him everything and never stop showing him unconditional love every day.Always can sense when my mood is low and knows exactly how to lift it. Thanks little Buddy.
Once my former best friend and roommate moved out some 3 years ago, I quickly spiralled into depression and had crazy anxiety. This was my first time being completely on my own, and I felt so lonely. Long story short I was eventually sent to a psychiatric hospital, and got diagnosed with ADD and panic disorder. I've had these through most of my life, but being alone just amplified them to a whole new level. The doctors said that I should move home with my parents, but I have a little sister with autism and anxiety on my mom's side, and I don't have a great relationship with my dad. We've tried everything to have me not live alone, but nothing worked out. To this day I still live on my own, and I get really lonely quite often. But 2 months ago I was finally able to adopt a pet from the local shelter, so now I live with kitten Lucy. It has not completely cured my anxiety and loneliness, but it has helped _a lot._ She was abused and so is still a little nervous, but she is such a sweet girl and I love her so much! She greets me when I wake up and when I get home, she gives me a reason to get up in the morning, and when I feel down and contemplate bad comping mechanisms, I play with her instead, and it actually helps. Pets are the best. (My therapist told me at our last session, that it's pretty bad for me to live alone, even if I have a cat, but we're working on it).
Base on my own experience my pet cat helps me if i'm sad she is always with me she cheers me up with her cute meows and purring, she stays with me every night and if she hears my voice she will find me and she'll starts running she always made my day and she is one of the reasons why I stop hating my life
As someone that has suffered with depression anxiety for the longest time, pets really have eased my symptoms and I appreciate the love they show me. They kinda give me the will to continue on no matter how hopeless i get
I adopted a puppy two months ago, it's my first dog and I couldn't be happier. He gives me a reason to get up every morning and smile just thinking I will get to take care of him. I take him on several walks through the day and I've been talking to neighbours and strangers because my dog is very social and to my surprise it makes me feel better. I used to stay in my room all day
This is why I’ve had so many rodents, a dog and have a dog and cat currently and will get another dog soon. I would be a lot worse if I never had any animals. They are truly the highest beings in the world. They can do no wrong.
This reminded me of when my work dog, Chloe passed away last Thanksgiving. She was a retired service dog, that helped the disabled in wheelchairs. She was the only thing I looked forward to at work, bc she gave me so much joy and energy in an otherwise boring and mundane job. I love that some workplaces can accommodate for emotional service or service dogs of any kind. But this was the first pet that I’ve lost due to heart failure; I’ve given all my pets away bc my sister is allergic to dogs and cats. The holidays and her birthday, which is in February, are hard for me now, but I’m trying my best to cope.

I do believe that pets, especially dogs improve your mental health and just overall quality of life massively. I've had a dog around most of my life, and they have helped greatly whenever I was in a dark spot mentally or hurting physically. Just wrapping your arms around a warm floof of a dog helps so much when you're not okay
Tbh my dog is sole reason why I didn’t kill myself when I was very depressed and suicidal. Even though he has people who would take good care of him, I couldn’t imagine just leaving and him not being able to understand what happened.
8. Seeing an animal you have cared for love and thrive because you nurtured their beautiful soul. Rescued my cat as a kitten off a busy overpass above a highway during morning rush hour. She was so timid and scared. 4 years of TLC later and she's blossomed into such a loving and kind soul who I can't believe still loves me because it was a long series of touch and go with her. A couple months ago she reached another milestone of hopping up in my lap just to law down and nap on me.
For me dogs help me a lot, whenever I feel sad about something I would always notice how they would try to get my attention so I could play with them, whenever I would play with my dog I would forget every problem I have in my life and just feel happy, safe and comfortable But my dog died on April, it never felt the same I felt so lonely and sad because there was nothing to cheer me up when I'm down, but now since it's the holidays, my mom let me live with my grandparents who have a lot of dogs and new puppies, ever since I lived with my grandparents I felt happy again, because I was the one who would take care of all the puppies and play with them. For me dogs are emotional support and family, I easily get emotionally attached to them cause they're one of the best things that came into my life
I've had my cat for 10 year and we recently got a dog a few months back I can honestly say the benefits of a pet are immense and my cat helped me through a rough time a few years ago and the dog is really helpful during this hard year
*For people with and without a pet. Just know no matter how many hard times you face I still love you! Even when you sad and feel like there's no hope you're still loved but many people, even if it doesn't seem like it* 😇🌈💝 *And if you are facing VERY tough times please try to talk about it to someone or write how you feel down. Trust me it does help!*
Well my step dad just has some cats and a dog so they kinda been helping a bit and there some stray cats an around just renctly that are very sweet💕🐈They do make me feel like I'm not alone and they get me in away even if there not mine pets.😌😅
Been diagnosed with GAD, Severe Depression, and PTSD. I currently live with my mom and pay all of my bills on time and sometimes early. I currently struggle with finding employment despite going back to school to get an education. Because I can't find work for what I went to school for I do DoorDash to pay for everything. I can not do manual labor anymore because of my joint condition and causes me chronic pain. I just really want a pet so I don't feel so lonely anymore and that it doesn't feel like its me against the world. I would love to talk with my dog and not feel like they're judging me for what I did or had to go through. I hate being stuck in my own head focusing on the negatives that is going on in my life.
I got a puppy last month and so far he’s been stressing me out more than making me happy, i hope it gets better as he grows. He’s adorable and very lovable but he destroys everything lol. He’s a little over 4 months. I know I’ll get backlash from this but I’m just expressing my current feelings. I’m sorry if this upset anyone. That wasn’t the intent. I do suffer from Depression, Anxiety, Ptsd, & Bipolar disorder. So it’s a lot.
this helped so much, i genuinely couldn't thank you enough, this video i showed to my dad and its convinced him to get me a dog, so now i just have to convince my mom, its lifted a bit of stress and nervousness off my chest. thank you so much.
My dog has helped me a lot with my mental well-being. He's a reason for me to get out of the bed everyday.. that was really helpful when I lost my mom.. thanks to my dog i didn't hide in bed all day.
My boyfriend broke up with me a month ago and my dogs were so amazing especially one in particular who started being very clingy and protective of me. She would lay with me alot and just follow me around more than usual. They really are amazing x
Having a pet really do wonders to our mental health. We had a kitten. In Sept 2020, my brother came with her at home. She was so weak and so scared of us. But we took good care of her and time by time, she became our "Kittu". But on Christmas 2020, she died on my brother's hand. We really really miss her! And we will always cherish those memories with her!
I have two guinea pigs, I can't cuddle with them like dogs or cats but sometimes I just smile and talk with them to lighten my mood and it really helps
I really want a dog, but my lifestyle isn’t yet completely settled where I definitely know I’ll be home for enough of the day. But I know that when I get my little pup one day, they’re definitely going to add so much happiness to my life! 😍🙏🏽 🐶💖✨✨
You're such a responsible person. You made the right decision not to own one until your lifestyle is ready for one. It's such an important step to take. - Cindy 💕
my papa said that when we get our new house, we will adopt a dog! hes not a rlly big fan of dogs, or any animal in general, so this means a lot to me. my mental health isnt at its best rn, aswell my physical health. im pretty sure my papa knows that, and he doesnt yell at me as much as he used to. ofc, he still disciplines me, but he used to yell at me for the smallest things. and now he doesnt, which makes me super happy. idk which breed i want yet, my little bro wants a pug, and my baby sister wants a poodle. i want a german sheppard, even a maltese would be fine. anyway, im super excited to get a dog!!
I wish my mom and dad would see this is tried explaining I need a pet because I’m really tired of comming home to being isolated in my room but as soon as I bring it up they say “nope. Your grades aren’t all 95 and above.”
My dog died in April. His name was Jack and he was 15 years old. I have ADD meaning I get stressed out and it’s difficult to understand things sometimes. My parents like to travel and said no more pets because they don’t wanna spend so much money off the vet and taking care of them. They also wanna travel a lot. I need a dog. I noticed that ever since I lost Jack, I’ve been getting depressed a lot, and haven’t been very comfortable lately. Half the day I sit in bed watching UA-cam which I shouldn’t be doing. I wanna write an essay for my parents about why I need a dog. Hopefully they’ll listen...
Edit: My mom said yes, but my dad said absolutely not, because we leave a lot and he doesn’t want to make the dog stay at home. He loves dogs, but he won’t do that to a dog. He said he never wants a dog. I’m crying now
I've heard stories about animals such as dogs letting their owners/pet parents know they have gotten cancer and even showing where it is or reacting when they have a medical crisis or many other things. So it's beneficial in every aspect of one's health in the end
one of my many dogs is just laying on my leg, she's more of my mom's dog and never really likes to go up to me (she likes me but I just pet her too much for her liking so she's never with me for a long time, I cant help it puppers are too cute)
Hi Psych2Go, I'm sure you know this already but you can edit out the bit between 0:07 and 0:17 as by the time you release this video it won't be relevant anymore. You don't have to delete it (as it's an excellent video), just go to UA-cam Studio => Edit => Select Trim and highlight between 0:07 and 0:17. This will cut it out and you won't have to delete the vid :-)
Pets are really effective in helping you cope depression because they are just like a small family you can keep in your heart, knowing they are always by your side no matter how down you get in your live.
honestly this sounds bad but like this is one of the top reasons I visit my friends. They all have pets and I feel so much better after playing with them
I don't think it is bad at all! It's another reason to go out talk to friends and to their pets. Animals are such an amazing creatures. You'll be surprise what they can help you with! - Cindy
i'm so greatful for help I got from my dogs and other animals I had in my life. They gave me most support when I felt down, even when my friends and family couldn't understand what I am passing trough. 💓🐾💓🐾🥰🙏🏼
I'm so sorry! :'( It's never easy to lose a pet. It's like losing a family member. Your dog is in a better place now. Glad to hear you have good members with him. - Cindy
When I'm sad, my cat will come curl up in my lap, or rub his face against mine. Before I had therapy, he was usually the only thing that could calm me down.
I wish I could have a pet. Sadly, I'm allergic to cats (even tho I love them), my dad is scared of dogs, we seem to have given up on having fish, and we don't have much room in our house for a pet. Not to mention the fact that most of my family isn't at home all day. Not having a pet has always been something that I have felt separated me from many conversations. I just wish I could have a cat to snuggle up with me.
My dog died from cancer and old age last summer in June 2020, and I still miss him. But if he wants me to be happy, then I'll try to get a new pet and take good care of it.
This would’ve help me a ton on my essay last week about the benefits of pets. I got a 2+/4. Not terrible but would’ve helped. Btw I love psych2go and think it’s amazing what y’all are doing and don’t want to spread any hate. Just a lighthearted comment. ❤️
My Guinea pigs fill my heart, give me a sense of purpose. If I ended it all, what would happen to my piggies? I find myself asking that. Their so therapeutic. So full of love. I Love My Babies ❤️
I just played catch/fetch with my dog. And even watching him run around, having the time of his life was enough to make me smile 🥹🥰 he was so happy lol just kickin it and it was absolutely adorable ❤❤
I'm currently struggling a lot with depression and have been thinking about adopting a pet. I thought this video would make me want it more, but, unfortunately, it only made me see the kind of energy I would have to have in order to take care of one. No strength to even take proper care of myself... doesn't seem such a good ideia now hahaha
I'm 19 year's old and I have no friends and no girlfriend Just no one to even reach out to, I decided to own a dog to keep me company and ease my loneliness.
Congrats on 4.6 MILLION!!!! You guys are wonderful!!! I knew about the lower blood pressure, but it is neat that there are so many other benefits!! Happy new year!!!! 🎆
Before have my python -self harm, depression, anxiety, and wasn’t taking good care of my body and not taking my meds- After having my snake -if I don’t take care of my self then I won’t be around to care for my baby, I used to be so alone but she sits in my lap when I feel lonely, and I hug her and talk to her when I’m stressed, and her smooth scaly feeling reduces my anxiety and the way she slithers is satisfying also reducing my anxiety- and she’s stopped my self harm habits
My family got a kitty on the 23rd and we had a cat a who passed a few years ago and I feel like I’ve been more sad and a grey cloud keeps getting bigger and bigger over me... I hope princess will make me happier!!
i had a dog but she died a few months ago. i can feel myself getting worse without her. i really really want anothet dog but Corgis are too expensive and there are none to adopt in my state in Australia. Other breeds are cute and all but i have had 2 corgis in my life and want another
Pets also help to keep you happy and smiling. Pets (often cats and dogs) are super silly and unintentionally funny. Just seeing them roll on the floor or scratch the wall can keep you laughing. My dog is definitely my happy pill! 💕
Well this is hard because my pet rabbit passed away last month. :( He was my emotional aid, alway made my day just spending time with him. Everytime I get overwhelmed or stressed with life, he takes it away. I miss my bun dearly..:(
I am so sorry about your rabbit. Your rabbit must've been so happy to be in your life. It's never easy to lose a pet because it feels like you lost a very close family member. They are now in a better place without pain. Memories will forever stay in your heart and mind. - Cindy
@@Psych2go Thank you, Cindy. That made me emotional. 😭 Yes, he will always be in my heart and mind. I made custom keychains with his picture, also drew of pic of him as well. Did everything I could to remember him. 😭😭
I have been researching many cultures/systems/religions for a few years now and I am noticing the more “spiritually advanced “among them see the need for pets/animals and possession of them to be a sign of mental health issues. As it perpetuates the feelings of attachment
1:50 yep my doggo gets ready to fight if he thinks someone's getting beaten. Like, my mother playfully bear my brother and my fmdig was like "DON'T! STOP!".
I’m bioplor stage one my dog helps keep me from losing my mind go around my dog spend time hours I end up feeling better my dog won’t leave me alone if I’m not okay stay close to me love dogs
Since I'm from a farmer family I never had a problem with owning a pet. I had a goat, well we actually have over 100 of them but this one was different, I payed attention to her since she was a baby. She would come to me for food frequently. She was like a member of our family since 2009, but she died of old age back in 2019. She was definitely acting like a human, she would go on her own to graze. One time she was get lost in the grassland, we thought that a wolf was killed her. Well it turns out she was just tired. :D she was back to home next day, she was taking breaks while walking to home.
I mostly have cats (they don't care for cuddles) but whenever I talk about how I want a buddy to cuddle have fun with, my friends always says to get a dog (our last dog passed away some years ago, so we haven't had a dog pet in a while) but I also have a hamster, but I'm not sure what pet to get next after..... Maybe a dog? A snake? Not sure... (But this was very helpful for keeping me motivated to do certain tasks when I get a different pet!)

For me dogs help me a lot, whenever I feel sad about something I would always notice how they would try to get my attention so I could play with them, whenever I would play with my dog I would forget every problem I have in my life and just feel happy, safe and comfortable
But my dog died on April, it never felt the same I felt so lonely and sad because there was nothing to cheer me up when I'm down, but now since it's the holidays, my mom let me live with my grandparents who have a lot of dogs and new puppies, ever since I lived with my grandparents I felt happy again, because I was the one who would take care of all the puppies and play with them. For me dogs are emotional support and family, I easily get emotionally attached to them cause they're one of the best things that came into my life
I've had my cat for 10 year and we recently got a dog a few months back I can honestly say the benefits of a pet are immense and my cat helped me through a rough time a few years ago and the dog is really helpful during this hard year
I suffer from anxiety and depression on and off for years. Having a dog helps me cope a lot and teaches me to take things/days a day at a time.
*For people with and without a pet. Just know no matter how many hard times you face I still love you! Even when you sad and feel like there's no hope you're still loved but many people, even if it doesn't seem like it* 😇🌈💝
*And if you are facing VERY tough times please try to talk about it to someone or write how you feel down. Trust me it does help!*

My dog cured me depression. He saved me from myself.
I don't feel lonely anymore.
My life has a meaning now
Been diagnosed with GAD, Severe Depression, and PTSD.
My rescues have definitely helped me get through this year 🐶🐶💗

My dog has helped me a lot with my mental well-being. He's a reason for me to get out of the bed everyday.. that was really helpful when I lost my mom.. thanks to my dog i didn't hide in bed all day.
My boyfriend broke up with me a month ago and my dogs were so amazing especially one in particular who started being very clingy and protective of me. She would lay with me alot and just follow me around more than usual. They really are amazing x
*I heard that having a dog actually calms you down if ur feeling stressed* 🙏
Yep!! Would you like to get one? :)
@@Psych2go for now not, but eventually in the future 😊
- Cindy 💕
My personal preference are shelter dogs. They tend to be more appreciative and loyal to their Master.
my papa said that when we get our new house, we will adopt a dog! hes not a rlly big fan of dogs, or any animal in general, so this means a lot to me. my mental health isnt at its best rn, aswell my physical health. im pretty sure my papa knows that, and he doesnt yell at me as much as he used to. ofc, he still disciplines me, but he used to yell at me for the smallest things. and now he doesnt, which makes me super happy. idk which breed i want yet, my little bro wants a pug, and my baby sister wants a poodle. i want a german sheppard, even a maltese would be fine. anyway, im super excited to get a dog!!
Probably the best and purest relationship that I have. Pets are easily pleased and grateful. Thankful for how much they’ve enriched my life 💗

I wish my mom and dad would see this is tried explaining I need a pet because I’m really tired of comming home to being isolated in my room but as soon as I bring it up they say “nope. Your grades aren’t all 95 and above.”
I'm searching for a puppy since yesterday on some sites🤗 the idea to adopt a puppy dog makes me enthusiastic about my daily routine😊 its so true.
My rabbits definetly got me through the worst times in my life. I love having two little beings with their own personality's around me. 🐇💕
I have a rabbit too and this was the best decision ❤i never feel alone and love to cuddle with him
My dog died in April.
I’m crying now
Aww I hope you are okay. Maybe your parents are okay with another animal. Like a bunny or cat?
@@joannevanderhoeven My mom is allergic to cats, but she loves cats. I asked for a bunny in the past, and they said they don’t do much
@@lilsypils6579
Ah that's unfortunate :(
bunny's do a lot more than people think, especially when you don't cage it and bond with it!
Ahhhh! I just saw this message :'(

- Cindy

When I'm sad, my cat will come curl up in my lap, or rub his face against mine. Before I had therapy, he was usually the only thing that could calm me down.

Very. Well. Said. Words.

I got a cat 2 months ago and honestly she's helping a lot with my depression
I wish I could have a pet. Sadly, I'm allergic to cats (even tho I love them), my dad is scared of dogs, we seem to have given up on having fish, and we don't have much room in our house for a pet. Not to mention the fact that most of my family isn't at home all day. Not having a pet has always been something that I have felt separated me from many conversations. I just wish I could have a cat to snuggle up with me.
My dog died from cancer and old age last summer in June 2020, and I still miss him. But if he wants me to be happy, then I'll try to get a new pet and take good care of it.
