My ex girlfriend did a course for a while down by the cowgate so the Banshee became my place to meet up with her when she was on her lunch break and end of shift. The ghost tours used to text the bar that they were on the way up so the bar staff could have a shot of whisky and shortbread waiting for the tour. Of course some on these tours were underage or tee total so there was always whisky left over and as it was already paid for, was then going to be put down the sink. I offered to help the staff set up the drinks and shortbread in the vault area used as a dining spot and help clear up ready for the next tour. For this I was given the untouched whisky which was meant for the drain. As a result, I never left Edinburgh without a hangover. I think the Banshee is not open so early these days. They used to have the stories of all thier ghosts on the walls with a few joke ones added in. Father Jack ( from Father Ted TV show ) being one of them haunting the ladies toilet. I wonder if that story is still on the wall today.
In Edinburgh, now. Have watched your videos for months in preparation for my visit. I felt like I knew where places were from your videos. Thank you for your hard work, great stories, and personable way!
We didn't get to these pubs on our recent visit, but we did follow your advice and visited Mary's Milk Bar (more than once, if I'm honest, since we were literally staying about 100 steps away...dangerous!). Also enjoyed a treat from The Kilted Donut and a lovely meal outdoors at Made in Italy on a beautiful evening; friendly service, delicious food, but no ghosts, alas.
Tony, always enjoy your videos. My friend and I were finally able to visit Edinburgh from the USA a couple of weeks ago. Incredible city full of history, we had a great time. Thanks for all the awesome info on your videos.
I'm from the States, too. I could never go Visit Edinburgh... Bcz, I'd just want to Stay there, & Live there again!!! & By, "Live," I mean, Live there for More than a year !!! 💙🏴💙(& I'm not even Scottish !!!) 💙🏴💙
I did my own little haunted tour one afternoon and had a pint in the The Tolbooth, The Last Drop and the White Hart Inn. Unfortunately I saw no ghosts.
Tony I don’t think you realize how much we appreciate the videos you share with us. You keep me going when I have a long week working. It had been 5 years 2018 and I still miss Scotland very much. I told my husband I want to go back next year and God willing we will in August.
Great video - thanks for sharing these stories. I can't wait for the day I get to be in Edinburgh - perhaps I'll visit on or more of these old pubs when I get there. Cheers from Australia🌹
Thank you for the inspiration. Now we have a destination in December. Our 3. Time in Edinburgh, it will not be our last time . And what can be better as a visit in a lot of pubs? Greetings from Berlin
Yet another great video mate and you actually went in our 4 favourite pubs to go in when we visit, keep up the good work pal and hope the family is well.
Hi Tony. Loved the video as usual. I have always had a question though that hopefully you can answer. How come sometimes a "V" is used instead of a "U" on certain signs, even though the "V" is used in other sentences on the sign. For example, "Robert Bvrns visited this site in Edinbvrgh"... etc?
You know if and when you start to do tours you should dress hte part. Without a doubt you resemble Vincent Price and Im sure you could portray him. Great to see ne videos. Thanks!
I was once told on one of those walking tours that, that wee door beside the Tolbooth Tavern was a prison cell where people who never paid their taxes, were placed for 24 hours as a punishment.
I am travelling with a teenager. Some of the pubs does not allow people under 18 inside, among them The Banshee Pub. As a general rule you have to buy at least one meal while bringing children or teenagers.
Hey I just wanted to say I had my first successful trip outside my country to Scotland and I stayed in Edinburgh. I had a wonderful time and thanks to all your videos I was able to get around easily
Watched an STV documentary many years ago where they took a spiritualist into the cellar of the White Hart Inn. She detected 2 spirits down there....one a frightening man who had been a money lender with an office of sorts hidden behind barrels. Murdered by an unhappy client. The other a young girl who had been strangled from behind with a ligature. Spiritualist described it as a very bad place and couldn't get out quickly enough!
Nedrie Street??! I knew someone who lived there! (a Pastor now!!) That was back in 2006. I live in The States. I lived in Edinburgh for a year, back then. I remember a place called, the crypt cafe. & I also remember a huge graveyard, where they'd have walks through it at/or after midnight !!! 💙
Something you don't know, but I think it's in my book "Edinburgh" is that I have a fear of small doors. It's silly, I know. I think of The Borrowers I think. I love them, but I don't trust them. LOL
PLEASE stop making videos around the Royal Mile;) what about Newhaven, Granton, Leith, Ballerno, Curry, Holy Corner, Morning Side, the Union Canal etc etc. Still love your videos though 👍
..."they're open late so evryone can enjoy a SPIRIT"..anybody, anybody??
