Great review - You've convinced me to buy one!! I'm just trying to assign the crop angle function, but cant seem to work out how to map it using the learn function....any tips?? Cheers!!
I just recently started using Palette, but this looks cool as well. These analog controller for LR really do wonders to the editing process. Less fatigue and more refined outcomes.
When is Part 2 coming? Can you go more in depth on the software and how to customize the board? Also, are there settings in the software for generic keyboard shortcuts that would enable me to use the board with other programs?
Dudes, its just midi. Buy any midi controller you want, there is literally thousands of them made for DAWs/hardware/musicians/producers, grab the midi 2 LR software, and then map the controller yourselves. Easy peazy.
I just got one of these for my iMac to use with lightroom. however it keeps freezing every time I try to open the basic profiles. Would you happen to know how to get this installed?
Hey David, I got one of these after seeing your video and can't find the function to assign a knob to crop angle, one of the main functions I bought it for. Could you please share how to do this? THANKS!
Wow this looks amazing, great review!!! I will definitely be thinking about purchasing this in the near future. Based off your review and how well it impressed you...
Hello, thank you for the video. How did you set up the hardware in order to rotate the photo? I don't know how to do that on the pfixer preference panel... thank you for your help
Thanks for this review, the product looks awesome, I'm looking for a good MIDI controller that fits my LR needs for a long time now. Questions: I assume this is also actually a MIDI controller? Does it work with MIDI2LR plugin, or does it come with another "driver" software? MIDI2LR doesn't work well for me, it crashes all the time and slows down LR significantly when I quit LR. So if it sued a custom software solution that works better than MIDI2LR, it would be great.
Hi David, having only to edit on my imac desktop. I'm having a hard time deciding between the bigger behringer bcf-2000 and the minimal. Would you be able to do a video documenting the differences of that and a minimal? Or even a video of how you setup the rotation and settings would be great. Not much easy to follow tutorials out there about this product.
Hey David! Thanks for this review! Regarding this panel, are we required to purchase the Pfixer software to be able to use the functions, or could i just buy the panel and start editing away? Cause on the website there are 2 options: 1) PFixer minimal bundle $179.99 2)Minimal Controller $99.99 So im unsure which to purchase. Your video has convinced me to get my hand on the panel, appreciate it so much! Do let me know which to get, shall be my xmas present! Cheers to you and happy holidays!
Can you program any of it to work with your adjustment brushes... if I'm working just on a face for example, can the twisty knobs control localised exposure etc... or is it just for overall contrast, clarity, temp and so on... how detailed can you get within it?
Hi David, quick question regarding the knobs; when you move to the next photo, do they "reset" at whatever level the new picture is, or do they need to be manually reset? What I mean is, let's say the slider for Highlights is at 50 on one photo. I reduce it to 45 and then move to the next photo. Is the value/knob now at 45 for the next photo or does the nob reset to whatever the highlight value is on the new photo?
Hi David. Fast question: the 8 rotary controls are endless? (for example if I set exposure to +1 in a photo when I move to another what happen, start for 0 or from +1?). thank you
Ya, I have a 2015 rMBP and a Windows desktop WS. I do all my editing on my Windows desktop since it's much more powerful. Hopefully he comes out with it for Windows! Would buy today if it was!
+MAM +winndds I plan on making a video showing how i programed mine. In short, in the preferences of PFixer go to "mapping" select "Learn mode on" Scroll down to Lens Corrections Panel and program "Rotation" for whatever rotary knob you want. Make sure you in the "continuous MIDI CC#/Run" Once done make sure that knob (number) wasn't be used on anything else, which i probably was. SO scroll up and make sure your number isn't on anything else, if so delete it. Click apply and in lightroom scroll down to "Lens Corrections" and click Manual. That should allow the knob to work.
What I'm discovering is that this "insane savings of time" is the difference between your very inefficient macbook trackpad editing and these midi dials (which are totally set up backwards). When you compare against a Magic Mouse with GPU on a 27" 4k screen, the minimal is way slower- it responds slower (even at .1s midi refresh), writes a ton of history and you are moving your hands much more vs keyboard/mouse. The jury is still out if the dials will reduce fatigue, but for speed.... you just weren't editing right to begin with. Don't forget that you still need to mouse around when removing dust, adding brushwork, zooming and panning ... This thing only helps (maybe) for images that only need 'minimal' adjustments. If you are brightening faces and copying between successive images (real editing not just level balancing), you'll have to hit the mouse to adjust the brush locations. There just isn't a silver bullet for LR editing yet. 90% of time spent in LR is waiting for LR. Let's focus on getting Adobe to recode this monstrosity.
Would you recommend this over the panel? Like do they have the same lr adjustments?. Of course the minimal being smaller different layout and portable but aside from that
Looked into this a fair bit and you don't need this at all. Any midi controller will work so get the cheapest and then get a plugin called MIDI2LR, it's free and does everything this does :) Really easy, takes 10 mins to setup and works on PC and Mac :)
Usually comes in the configuration software. Look at MIDI2LR which allows you to program any MIDI controller to work with Lightroom. petapixel.com/2015/08/12/midi2lr-an-open-source-app-that-lets-you-use-any-midi-controller-in-lightroom/
hi david, I'm having nightmare setting mine up to work correctly, could you possibly share your setup in the preferences, my knobs aren't adjusting correctly. I bought the console separately as i already have fixer core software. thanks :-)
+Cross-Jones Photography Just to double check, do you have the new update for fixer that includes the presets for "PFixer MiniMall"? Ill ask the creator if there is something specific that needs to be done to the unit.
I do a lot of photography and video work. Does anyone know if this could be used (now or in the future) for video coloring in adobe speedgrade or premiere pro? If so, that would be brilliant!
It's a Behringer X Touch Mini that has been midi mapped for Lightroom. It's simple to map the entire thing yourself. www.amazon.com/Behringer-X-TOUCH-MINI-Universal-Controller/dp/B0143IXPU6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1454309543&sr=8-2&keywords=behringer+xtouch+mini
Haven't used either but both would be fine mate. The more knobs and buttons the more you can program which is good. I'd go on what I could get cheapest to be honest.

think of it in terms of reaching for the slider you don't have shortcuts for each and everyhing in lightroom; a knob is a very fast way to get where you're going I have a MIDI controller bought for music production. After I started using it with my Audio Workstation I was wondering how I lived without it....
Very Cool! I think the midi controller you have looks like a twin brother of the X-TOUCH Mini from Behringer (Around $40~60) who has awful reviews for music, but is great used with Lightroom. I'm buying one of those!
Hey what phone number did Ben from Pusher Labs call you from. I purchased their top of the line unit (Xtremist Bundle) and cannot get so much as an email reply yet, despite three open support tickets asking for a phone call. I LOVE the unit and have figured out how to use most of it, but need just a quick human intro to walk me through some of the finer features. The thing is RIDICULOUS!!! (AMAZING).
David Iliyn How did you reach them? Is their a skype number of account or phone number you can give? I love the controller, and set up but there are a couple of items I cannot figure out and need a walk through. I want to do a you tube video on it (which i think will be the very first). The thing is AMAZING. I have never seen anything like this.I have to say, it was your video that led me to them.
You have to realize that this is a Behringer conroller, made for controlling MIDI in Digital Audio Workstations, therefore this is just a brilliant hack on using the controller in a different enviroment. If you're looking to go wireless for some reason, just check out the Korg nanokontrol Studio. It's usb powered and it also works with Bluetooth. It's fully programmable. So, if you program the behavior and MIDI CC to the Light Room functions (I assume a MIDI CC transcriber or programmer for any use outside controlling music apps would be necessary) then you're good to go. Note: I don't own neither of those products, but the process i'm explaining is based on logic behavior of how these devices work.
There is a plugin for Lightroom for PC to allow the use of a MIDI controller. It's called MIDI2LR. You can use it and program the Behringer controller to be the exact same as this setup.
the Bahringer X Touch works with Lightroom for windows, you have to use the MIDI2LR app... i got mine up and running over the weekend - i culled, edited over 4200 shots in around 10 hours
Looks like Apple only product. Check out The Palette! The Palette is tightly integrated into Lightroom with 200 assignable functions, giving you granular control over edits on a Mac, Windows, or Linux computer. palettegear.com also works with other adobe products.
This looks great but need windows version big time! Tell Ben there's a lot of people wanting this so he'd better get his finger out and do a windows version! lol
once everyone is using it - it comes back to square one, where to earn the same money you have to invest the same amount of time as before you got that toy. So, enjoy your free lunch whiles you can.
Hype, hype, hype. Been here, done it. Garbage. Don't let the emotional appeal get you (it got me). MIDI2LR is FREE, and you can get a far superior MIDI interface for MUCH less than Pusher Labs is asking for.Check out the Korg NanoKontrol 2, for example.
+Mark McKeown Update time. I received my Behringer X-Touch Mini and set it up with MIDI2LR. It works, mostly. Not all functions are supported in MIDI2LR and there are some quirks. Hopefully this will be smoothed out as the plugin develops. I would gladly pay for Pfixer for Windows though - just to have everything working.
You're not going to make music for crying out loud, there's no need to buy these stuff for photo editing.. seriously wtf? Just get a 32" or 40" 4k monitor and do your editing with that, much better idea than trying to compensate for a small laptop screen with some gimmicky controllers.
I use a different controller, but if you shoot weddings this can save hours. Time is money. Worthwhile. All I got from your comment is that it's not practical for you. So, good job?
I think having a larger screen with tons of more workspace (larger screen with higher resolution than your current), and from which you can view your image larger (without having to constantly zoom on places/areas to check sharpness) makes more sense to me.
A 4k Monitor is great. It is what I edit with, but nothing can speed up your workflow more than a physical device rather than moving a mouse around a screen. I can edit a full wedding in a few hours instead of multiple days before. I use a DIY version that I've put together almost exactly like the Pfixer. I use two controllers... one with presets that I frequently use, and another which is essentially a carbon copy of the Pfixer.
Great review - You've convinced me to buy one!!

bought the pfixer and the minimal after saw ur review.. fantastic stuff, saved couples of hours from each of my job.
is there any chance you could share with us your assigned button's configuration file?
hmm i should copy this for windows! wonder why he makes it only for mac, why not maximize market ?
under the mapping, what field did you change to for the cropping / straighten..
Hey David, I got one of these after seeing your video and can't find the function to assign a knob to crop angle, one of the main functions I bought it for. Could you please share how to do this? THANKS!

Hey David!
Thanks for this review!
Regarding this panel, are we required to purchase the Pfixer software to be able to use the functions, or could i just buy the panel and start editing away?
Cause on the website there are 2 options:
1) PFixer minimal bundle $179.99
2)Minimal Controller $99.99
So im unsure which to purchase.
Your video has convinced me to get my hand on the panel, appreciate it so much!
Do let me know which to get, shall be my xmas present!
Cheers to you and happy holidays!
Whoa!! I didn't know things like this existed!
+Make Something Yeah it rocks on big sets!
Can you program any of it to work with your adjustment brushes... if I'm working just on a face for example, can the twisty knobs control localised exposure etc... or is it just for overall contrast, clarity, temp and so on... how detailed can you get within it?
I believe so

+Russell Presley yes, they reset for the settings of that new photo
To clarify, you need pusher lab's software for the minimal to work?
hi David thanks for the useful review. Do you now if you can assign LR presets to some buttons on MiniMal?? thanks
Do you think they will ever do a version like this for FCPX ? Like the Palette ?
Hi David. Fast question: the 8 rotary controls are endless? (for example if I set exposure to +1 in a photo when I move to another what happen, start for 0 or from +1?). thank you
+mauroav1 Starts from 0
What were you shooting with when you nade this video?

I already have a MIDI keyboard (used for music prod.) with pads and knobs, does that software works on PC as well and supports midi keyboards?
ill look for it thanks
Awesome, what parameter did you program for rotation? Thanks!
+MAM +winndds I plan on making a video showing how i programed mine.

Too much jabbering, not enough demo.
amazing product , its a game changer

Can you program presets? How quick does it respond? I tried something similar few years ago but there was too much lag so I returned it.
My Only concern is that the website looks a little bit outdate. Does the developer releases updates regularly?
Would you recommend this over the panel? Like do they have the same lr adjustments?. Of course the minimal being smaller different layout and portable but aside from that

Hi David, how did u set up the possibility to correct the rotation in the image?
+Olav Standal Tangen Im wondering the same thing.

Can u use it for Adobe Premiere Pro too?
its not coming on amazon?????
Is this product available in the UK
+badger0681 Yes
it is remarkable that the haptics of audio midi controllers has only just infiltrated the digital image

Haven't used either but both would be fine mate. The more knobs and buttons the more you can program which is good. I'd go on what I could get cheapest to be honest.
I'd say the Behringer because the dials are encoders without mechanical limits. So, you wouldn't have to reset them for each photo.
Was happy to see it is not compatible with a PC. Just saved lots of cash...
Does it work on PC Windows?
No windows version?
Can you let me know how you program the knob to rotate the image? I have the same problem when I take pictures.
+winndds I plan on making a video showing how i programed mine.

+David Iliyn Beautiful. It works. Thank you.
I honestly don't see how it can be easier/faster than a mouse. Maybe faster than using a trackpad on a laptop, but that's about it.
Its much faster than a mouse. I can be adjusting my crop and exposure at the same time. Cant do that with a mouse.
think of it in terms of reaching for the slider
you don't have shortcuts for each and everyhing in lightroom;
a knob is a very fast way to get where you're going

I hear that product support is not so great.
you gotta keep making more videos!
Any idea if you can make this wireless?
Not sure!
You have to realize that this is a Behringer conroller, made for controlling MIDI in Digital Audio Workstations, therefore this is just a brilliant hack on using the controller in a different enviroment. Evan Bartlett Yes, You can make it wireless
Can't recommend pusher labs... done the trial phase and ran into some issues. Asked for support, to this day I got no answer.
+CZ Photography that sucks! Let me know if there's anything I could help with
Makes me want one :D
+Evan Roth Time to open the wallet ;)
I hope they release a Windows version!!
