Was playing the 3 Real Bouts yesterday.. For me these went under the radar at the time but all are pure SNK goodness. Great colourful graphics and sound, all the character (and characters!) you would want and the play system with dual planes is pretty nifty.. I love the "light->medium->heavy" basic combo, how smoothly they flow almost feeling like canned combos but certainly not, and with the ability to mix it up with dodges and special hits.. These games are fine precursors to Garou IMO!
the level of details is amazing. The fans in the background, move and are interactive. I am impressed with Neo Geo considering that it was out before Playstation era. It actually look better than most first gen Playstation games.
@CheapBeer09 Hit connects, it allows both players to think what they are going to do, for instance if you hit a move and do a motion to a cancelleable move you chain your attack doing a combo.
Please review Shadowgate for the NES. I love the game and am recently playing through it again on my android phone. I want to suggest it to some friends but I can discern whether or not the gameplay holds up today or if I'm just nostalgic for it.
I love Real Bout: Fatal Fury. I have it on the Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 2 for the PS2. Both Battle Archives are awesome buys for relatively cheap, and I can totally recommend them.
this guy is a badass at telling it like it is. he could make up a story for the translation but instead he's not going to cause he know's people can call him out on it stating the obvious and giving accurate review's and information. that is how one become's "ALLWAY's RIGHT". this guy truely is a master at telling it like it is haha!
@nprime2000 No it isn't. The whole concept behind "sarcasm" is making it KNOWN by either stating you are being "sarcastic" or making the implication in the body of your question, statement, etc. I was an English tutor and am a writer. I need no introduction to the concept. I thank you however for your kindness. :)
@Lioyd1rving Actually I was also referring to characters that seemed to "inspire" some of the Street Fighter and MK characters... I will admit though, I never got into any of the SNK fighters so I don't know the chronology behind the different releases, it just struck me as both cool AND lame (in a way) that there is so many "carry over" characters, SNK just seemed to release as many fighting games as possible, without bothering to come up with many NEW characters for each release.
You mean your NEO-GEO CD unit is Japanese. The CDs are multi region and the version (JPN-USA-EUR) is selected based on your console's region. The NGCD is very east to make a language switch for though.
Saturn versions have load times that aren't too bad, most of the animation is in, and the games are solid (except for Fatal Fury 3, which sadly has some slowdown issues, mars an otherwise solid port). There's also the PS2 versions on both Fatal Fury Battle Archives, with 0 load times, and the ability to choose original or arranged soundtracks for use in the game.
Real Bout was my first real experience with the awesome SNK Fighting game library. Even though I owned a sloppy, slow, cut animations pal bordered PS1 version...I fell in love. Since then I own this game on numerous platforlms (MVS, Saturn, PS2, japanese PS1) and the Real Bout series remains one of my favorite fighting game franchises. I love the ring out feature. There are so many details to see like duck kings little bird, or what happens when you ring out blue mary at the docks.
real bout 1 is my favorite neo geo game, and saying that,i'm a old time neo geo fanboy, just look at my user name.this is not just an average neo geo beat em up.way better the any art of fighting and most samurai showdown games.
@MajorStupido Yeah, "Game Over YEEEEAAAHH" was my #1 Game Over. But you know what would be even better? Having Willy Wonka to show up and shout: "You GET NOTHING!!!! YOU LOSE!!!! Good DAY sir."
OMG i love this game,i really can't belive that you maked a review,i play this for ages,on and on :)

@reixo what about the "game over yeah!!!!!!!!!!!" screen from the sega rally games?
the level of details is amazing. The fans in the background, move and are interactive. I am impressed with Neo Geo considering that it was out before Playstation era. It actually look better than most first gen Playstation games.
galaxy fight? will there be a review? loved that game.
Real Bout has some of the best tracks ever on the CD. That arranged sound track is fantastic.
@CheapBeer09 Hit connects, it allows both players to think what they are going to do, for instance if you hit a move and do a motion to a cancelleable move you chain your attack doing a combo.
AWESOME REVIEW MARK KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!
@yoto125 King of fighters is a compilation of characters from the SNK fighting game series. Fatal Fury appears as 1 "team" in numerous KOF titles too.
This game is so awesome, I have great memories of it on the arcades, sadly, there are close to no more arcades in my city :(
Is it available for PS3?

@greatrulo It's from "Pregnant Fantasies" series; don't remember which one, though...
CGRM only does Neo Geo CD reviews :-(

You can also find this game on the Sega Saturn but only exclusive for Japanese systems
the game over sound, did he squeak?
this guy is a badass at telling it like it is. he could make up a story for the translation but instead he's not going to cause he know's people can call him out on it

@Cili1000XL remember, to do that he'd have to play the ps2 version. Which doesnt even touch the PC version.
wow real cool at 3:58, 4:16, and 5:09 in the background you can see it says "king of fighters". Pretty cool easter egg. :)
That was weird hearing you pull on a pop-can tab at the same time I did! Like an echo!!
this game is SO GOOOD!
had this on Saturn
Obviously the NEO GEO MVS / AES is the best, but how do the NEO CD and Saturn (w/ RAM cart) versions compare in terms of animation and load times ?
Saturn versions have load times that aren't too bad, most of the animation is in, and the games are solid (except for Fatal Fury 3, which sadly has some slowdown issues, mars an otherwise solid port). There's also the PS2 versions on both Fatal Fury Battle Archives, with 0 load times, and the ability to choose original or arranged soundtracks for use in the game.
Some of these fighters where on in the King of Fighters games, well I guess it make sense because KOF was also a SNK game I believe.
Makes me proud to own Fatal Fury Battle Archives vol. 1 and 2. No slow loading times. :-D
Got to love the f5 key to skip ads. :)
heyy it says king of fighters in the backround at 4:00
That GAME OVER always makes me laugh, I know how he feels.. XD
Can u review the game Survival Arts!
@TehOrlysBuNNyZ This was one with pregnant women. In one of the scenes they were playing that theme...
I bought this for the Sega Saturn for .99 cents. I can also use the awesome Saturn control pad and enjoy fast load times.
It's available as a downloadable Virtual Console game for the Wii!
nice review as always mark :)
That looks tight. It's ashame I don't know what a Neo-geo is though. Nice review.
That's the best game over I've ever heard
Mvs now goes for 50
@CelestialGamer hmmmm, that you for the info. Appreciate it.
Neo Geo is all about awesmoness and Fun in Games! I LOVE NEO GEO!!
Mai vs Blue Mary - the hottest wins, in this case Mai! :P
This Is My Favorite Fatal Fury Outta All Of Em(I Hated When They Took Out Stage K. O. 's In Other installments It Should've been Optional)
Did they Announcer died his last words when screaming Game Over?
Now that was the most drastic "game over" I've ever heard.
You should review Killer Instinct for the SNES.
Shiranui is the wolf god from okami (The one that ametarassu is the reincarnation of) :D
@Lioyd1rving Whoa Didn't know that, Thanks, Really Don't keep up with SNK like I should. Sorry typo.
was that one guy Raiden from Mortal Kombat?!
@joaovictor1994 LOL, yes! They need to do a game with that :)
They should have brought back Raiden aka Big Bear if they were going to have Kim kaphwan and Cheng sinzan
The Neo-Geo is perhaps the greatest arcade board, followed by the Naomi.
@ShingoEX Really? Ok, it makes sense now. Thanks for the info.
@LupusRexRgis Mind telling me the name of it? to uh.. you know to check and confirm.
On the cover, Geese could pass for Wesker.
Real Bout was my first real experience with the awesome SNK Fighting game library.

The triple down sounds like a meal of kings.
most under rated beat em up of all time.
@MegaTheRandomChannel Remember that mark said in Pac man world that he is reviewing some games in the future ?

THANKS LISA!!
Who's the dude in red that moves like DragonBall Z?
@RapidDominance357 yeah I'm sorry I just didn't find the right word. And I still can't find it...
The one thing I never cared for with Fatal Fury, is that ability to go in and out of the background. Always seemed a bit pointless to me.
they disabled it on psone version : fatal fury dominated mind
God I love that game, is a shame that fatal fury and art of fighting got scrapped in order to make only kof games.
@WebVMan ive been in Tokyo 2 times. . last time I got a Rockman(Megaman) box of candy ;P
how cool I have this game it's rad.
real bout 1 is my favorite neo geo game, and saying that,i'm a old time neo geo fanboy, just look at my user name.this is not just an average neo geo beat em up.way better the any art of fighting and most samurai showdown games.
@excaliber2010 No, because Mark always reviews the games based on the real thing, not roms.
anyone else notice the ridiculous amount of upskirts?
@MajorStupido I must direct you the the CGR review of Sega Rally 2 for the Dreamcast
@Arctic3sword I don't know anything about those :p
i could so go for a triple down right now
@Ze0do0Gas the only game over screen that could actually beat this one would be Willy Wonka shouting "YOU GET NOTHING!! YOU LOSE!!! GOOD DAY SIR."
it's also on ps2
Mai = Hotter version of Chun Li?
LOL at the Game Over sound
i raised my hand :)
Game Over YEEAAAHHHHH
i loved galaxy fight ..and lol all games sound crazy in japan
Had way other thoughts of this game. Not picking this up anymore.
GAME OVER YEAAAAHHHHHHHH
What a boss as fuck game-over screen.
@MajorStupido Yeah, "Game Over YEEEEAAAHH" was my #1 Game Over. But you know what would be even better? Having Willy Wonka to show up and shout:
"You GET NOTHING!!!! YOU LOSE!!!! Good DAY sir."
@lolbubbec Holy crap! He is fighting, 18!
you can download a rom of this game or download an iso then burn it to a cd-r to play it on a real neo-geo cd console. pretty cool, huh :D
the game looks good and fun but i dont think the music fits well enough
Mai is hot! Hehe, the little ducky looked down at the duck king when he fell into the water.
A better choice would be to get it for free. Just download it for MAMES and you dont have to worry about loading times.
Hey! Don't talk bad about bland 90's knock off techno, because bland 90's knock off techno is the best kind of techno!
14 neo geo reviews, NO METAL SLUG?!?!
CGRm y u no review METAL SLUG?
@Cili1000XL i dare him to review the leaked dreamcast half life

Terry Bogard and Duck King define the nineties!
GGAYUM 0OOVEAAEERR
So... a japanese gamer woman donated you that game?
Woah, never thought I'd use these four words in the same sentence.
