this game didn't get the proper recognition at the time due to the decline of Sega and the Saturn. Would'be been considered one of the greatest beat them ups had it been released on a more popular platform such as PS1.
Not to be pedantic but this isn’t a “beat em up”. Sure, people get beat up in it but it’s a fighting game. “Beat em up” is a different genre more akin to Streets of Rage, Final Fight, etc. Just sayin’! :p
Not to mention the freaking Wii U. This game would be awesome playing with the GamePad. Just like Tekken Tag Tournament 2 where some of the combos are on the tough screen. That would be awesome. I would by it again even though I own it on the Saturn.
Yes with updated HD graphics,Dolby surround sound, vibration support, and actual cinematic endings for each fighter(including the hidden ones).Plus give the bear character actual limb movement like the other fighters.
This is the best 3D beat em up from the 32-64 bit era.Back then almost all my friends played tekken and they didnt accept the superiority of this one.Only me and one guy from my school owned a saturn and this game,we played it as opponents and we enjoy it a lot.
I can't wait for *_Virtua Alpha Hyper Fighters Mega Gold Vipers Turbo Remix 7 ft. Virtua Fighter & Fighting Vipers Characters Platinum_* to be announced at E3 20XX!
man, not just a re-release but they could (these days) release a new one with all VF Fighters, modernized Fighting Vipers characters, add more SONIC characters (like sonic), all the virtue cop characters and just pretty much anyone that has been a lead in a Sega Game...Nintendo can have Smash while Sega can have a this one!! :)
+Jed Palisoc great idea seriously they can even characters from last bronx , yakuza and shenmue like wtf seriously you should email sega and tell them about this
I love those physics attached to the various kinds of ring outs that Vipers had. Smashing people through cages is endlessly satisfying and the way characters snap across the top rung is just.. painful. Awesome stuff.
About time someone acknowledged what an awesome game this is. I pumped countless hours into this game as a kid. Oh btw if you use the rip-off-your-Armour command with the Daytona USA car, it will have the same moves as Ura Bahn, plus it has the best throw move in any game ever. :P
Man I use to have this. I need to get it again since I have a working saturn now. I'm looking at the comments and a few of y'all really know the history behind this game. This is when sega was still really special. Wish the would go back to these type of games.
This is one of the main reasons to own a Saturn! The Hyper Mode in this game, REALLY adds to the replay value!! Any button masher can look like a pro with Hyper Mode on!!!
I had VF2, VFremix and Megamix as a kid. I first played Vipers today along with Megamix and realized that Megamix is basically Vipers on steroids. The mechanics, the graphics, the moves etc. are basically ripped from Vipers and when they are not, the characters are made to fit the unique graphical style established in Vipers. Looking back I think Vipers has aged better than the VF games because of its speed and fluidity, which helps to compensate for the dated graphics. The game does also have a lot more movements per character or at least that's how it seems, which means that even random buttom mashing will look somewhat cool, which does not really work out equally well in the VF games, where you'll often resort to the same dull movements other than repeating the couple special moves that every character has.
Proud to say that a copy of this game should be arriving at my house this Friday, as well as a regular Saturn game pad, a 3D gamepad, and TWO Virtual Arcade Sticks ( the 2 gamepads/2 joysticks only for 30 bucks in total ) All thanks to CGR for showing me these things I must own.
This is one of my favorite Saturn games. There were a lot of great fighters that only came out in Japan, such as Waku Waku 7, Cyberbots, and Power Instinct 3: Groove On Fight, but, Fighters Megamix came out here, and is pretty good.
This the coolest thing I have ever seen! I would have never thought about fighting against a car. Hydro Thunder, for the Dreamcast, gave me my first taste sailing as the Titanic and racing against minuscule speed boats; good times!
The game looks really damn good for a Saturn game, both gameplay and graphically. Also, I like how there are Sonic the Fighters characters and stages in it. Great stuff (and what the hell is with the Daytona car).
I loved this game on my Saturn. It is one of the main reason's why I missed that system so much. Sega has to update the graphics and release this on Xbox Live Arcade!
I'm pretty certain Fighters Megamix was released close to the end of Saturn's (US) life-cycle. It was a bit of a compilation, last hoorah. As for Last Bronx, it was an earlier SEGA arcade game, and near direct port to the Saturn to help pump sagging sales after PS1's release. So yeah... if they're gonna throw in Daytona cars and the like, then Last Bronx fighters would have been an awesome addition to Megamix's already large roster...
I recommend reading the "Weekly SEGA SATURN magazine(Soft Bank Ltd,). Of course, it's the Japanese magazine. SEGA AM#2 development reader(Yu Suzuki) has interviewed on this magazine back then. Fighters Megamix has been released like main weapon on christmas season of 1996 against PS side.
I really what does game too. I think graphics has held up well. The Daytona car is what I remember most about this game lol! I remember this game just being fun to play. It was better than Virtua Fighter, better than Fighting Vipers both! I would love to see a good home brew sequel to this!
this was the reason my friend got a Sega saturn he stills plays it to this day. love to see sega release these game for Xbox and ps3 after all who whats to pay this on a wii .., not me
Have you heard of the Model 2 collection coming out on XBLA soon? Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers and 3 more other games will be released and they will have online play.
All I can say is "...Wow." This is probably one of the craziest fighters I've ever seen. I thought it was kinda hilarious that they brought over 2 of the characters from "Sonic the Fighters". And then the giant floating bear, and the car, and OH GOD WHAT'S GOING ON.
@BlatantReviewer Actually, the bear has all the moves that Sanman from Fighting Vipers has. Its just that they are not really animated more then the bear wiggling and waddling around a bit:D
Janet was unbeatable if you knew the move to shoot her gun. To make the game faster you could unlock a hyper mode as well. There is also a matching pairs type card game hidden somewhere.
this game has more contente and more replayability than the the games 2gens ahead whithout any DLC crap or pay-to-play crap. this was the golden era of gamming along with the ps2 and it is a testament that todays vídeo games are all about giving us bare bonés and charge us for as much as they can. i miss those days....
DAAAAAMN!!!!!!! I remember this game from waaaaaay back in the day! I used to love using that inflatable fighting Bear lol! This game I used to think should have been called Virtua Fighter the Drug-Trip-Edition! Cuz I didn't know much about fighting vipers @ the time or where all these other side characters came from despite growing up with Virtua Fighter.
Fighter's Mega mix was a great crossover !! Sega Saturn was also the choice for Capcom's golden classic(or vice versa) Marvel/Xmen crossovers because the Ps1 was crap on 2d fighters back then.
This video just reminds me that Sega used to be the awesomest and epicest game company on the planet. I, as a Japanese, always thought Sega as an American company: creative, innovative and kicking-ass. Much later, when I was riding a bicycle, I happened to find its headquarter in Haneda (Tokyo) and realized it's a Japan-based company. I was very surprised. Now, I'm wondering, who's carrying on with Sega's creativeness among those big players... Sony? Ninty? Something tells me it's a lost story.
Fighters Megabit was developed by AM2 and all the fighters were taken from their games. Last Bronx, if I remember correctly, was developed by AM3, which would explain why it doesn't feature any characters from that game.
Oh my freakin' GOD.....among all the most wierd characters they have, there's a car which stands on 2 "wheels" and fights? a CAR? That made my day, wish I had this one.....guess it's time to consider a Saturn!
@yusukeshinyama Well originally back in 1940 when it was first formed, Sega was founded as Standard Games (later Service Games) in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States by Marty Bromely, Irving Bromberg, and James Humpert to provide coin-operated amusements for American servicemen on military bases. In 1984, the multibillion dollar Japanese conglomerate CSK bought Sega, renamed it to Sega Enterprises Ltd., headquartered it in Japan, and two years later. Maybe that's why it felt American to you lol.
Forget a mere re-release... They need to UP the roster! As well as all the new VF characters and then all the Fighting Viper characters... they need to throw in all the characters from Last Bronx as well as many sega franchise characters as possible. My god, it would rock. Tekken would be sweating bullets.
Damn this game looks good. Too bad they don't make many of these types of fighting games, where they have lot's of characters from different franchises. Yes there are Super Smash Bros, Marvel VS Capcom & so on, but there's room for more. How about Sega's Ultimate Fighting game, a fighting game with many different Sega characters.
Kewl Beans I'm familiar with Mugen. It's a great thing & I would be more than happy with it if I would be into PC gaming. Still thanks for the recommendation anyway. It's nice to get an answer to your comments.
Rakiarmas $20 gamepad and there's little difference from console games these days...actually there's been this trend to port console games to pc...i used to be a console gamer until microsoft got into the game and everybody started charging a price i could build a pc for
It's not really the gameplay that bothers me. It's the PC itself that I don't like. Even though I spend much time on internet, make UA-cam videos etc, I'm not a PC expert. If something happens to the Windows or something, I would be clueless on what I should do then. If someone would show me a PC game, I would have no idea on does it work on my PC or not. With my experience even a single little thing can make the PC game not work or there's some kind of problem. Don't get me wrong. I don't hate PC gaming or PC gamers in anyway. I just rather buy the game & play it on console without worrying about installation, hard-drive & other stuff. Although PS3 is pretty close to that line sometimes & I don't like that either.
totally get what you're saying i loved consoles for the simplicity of it just pop in a cart/disk, turn it on and it just worked no need to mess around with graphics settings or questions like "is my computer good enough to run this?" but while all that was going on i was still screwing with computers to see what i could make them do so by the time i switched over i had enough in my head to figure out how to make games run on whatever i hapend to have at the time. which never was and still isn't amazing knowledge is nintendo power my friend heh:D
If there will be a Fighters Megamix 2, I'd want Anarchy Reigns characters in the game, especially Fei Rin and her sisters! I'd also want them to have brutal supers and finishers.
@YourLocalVlogService And you would be so very, very wrong. The Bean in FMM is based off his StF appearance but Bean himself, or Bin rather, is from Dynamite Dux.
considering this game came out for the saturn (which was never renound for its 3d capabilities) 14 years ago the graphics have aged well, shows what the console was capable of in the hands of competant devleopers :)
Got a Jap Saturn recently plus Stepdown converter I'm in (UK) and feel we were cheated over here by the lack of awesome titles we missed out on. I was told to get this game. The games coming tomorrow and I can't wait.
I'm 30 now.
Had it around late 90's.
Still remember it, one of the best game of its era, and still one of the best 3d game ever.
this game didn't get the proper recognition at the time due to the decline of Sega and the Saturn.
so true, it was indeed mindblowing at the time
This needs a re-release for the 360, PS3, PS4 and XBONE
Not to mention the freaking Wii U. This game would be awesome playing with the GamePad. Just like Tekken Tag Tournament 2 where some of the combos are on the tough screen. That would be awesome. I would by it again even though I own it on the Saturn.
Yes with updated HD graphics,Dolby surround sound, vibration support, and actual cinematic endings for each fighter(including the hidden ones).Plus give the bear character actual limb movement like the other fighters.
***** I agree with you both. Re-release for EVERYONE!!!
This needs a re-release for Series X, PS5 and Switch. 😂
X-BONE lol
the car from daytona would be reason to buy this game
Royal House Music who didn't buy the game without the Hornet in mind
You joke but there was literally a cheat in that old Matrix game where you could have two cars fight hand-to-hand so anything is possible, I guess
5:20 is what we're all really looking for.
OMG!!!! you can fight as Hornet from Daytona... That's it..... I want a Saturn this year for Navidad. :)
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought that :-p
This is the best 3D beat em up from the 32-64 bit era.Back then almost all my friends played tekken and they didnt accept the superiority of this one.Only me and one guy from my school owned a saturn and this game,we played it as opponents and we enjoy it a lot.
I've got a title for Fighters Megamix Mark! VIRTUA VIPERS!
Or Fighting Fighter :P.
Fighters Megamix is SUCH an underrated gem.
I can't wait for *_Virtua Alpha Hyper Fighters Mega Gold Vipers Turbo Remix 7 ft. Virtua Fighter & Fighting Vipers Characters Platinum_* to be announced at E3 20XX!
+UnGamerChico and dreamcast 2
This is one of my favourite games of all time. Needs a reboot.
After Mark finally got his own Saturn, he has finally come to know how awesome of a system it was, and still is...
i love how they allow you to play as Hornet from Daytona USA lol that is absolutely wild
man, not just a re-release but they could (these days) release a new one with all VF Fighters, modernized Fighting Vipers characters, add more SONIC characters (like sonic), all the virtue cop characters and just pretty much anyone that has been a lead in a Sega Game...Nintendo can have Smash while Sega can have a this one!! :)
+Jed Palisoc great idea seriously they can even characters from last bronx , yakuza and shenmue like wtf seriously you should email sega and tell them about this
cebarvideos LAST BRONX N SHENMUE!!! HOW COULD I FORGET?!?
Sega's too busy updating Guilty Gear
picketf guilty gear isn't made by sega
I love those physics attached to the various kinds of ring outs that Vipers had. Smashing people through cages is endlessly satisfying and the way characters snap across the top rung is just.. painful. Awesome stuff.
About time someone acknowledged what an awesome game this is. I pumped countless hours into this game as a kid.
Oh btw if you use the rip-off-your-Armour command with the Daytona USA car, it will have the same moves as Ura Bahn, plus it has the best throw move in any game ever. :P
i own this game and it is probably the best 3D fighter of the 90s, besides Virtual Fighter 2 and Tekken 3.
Man I use to have this. I need to get it again since I have a working saturn now. I'm looking at the comments and a few of y'all really know the history behind this game. This is when sega was still really special. Wish the would go back to these type of games.
I've played this game with my father so many times! It's just incredible and it gives me such nice memories!
This is one of the main reasons to own a Saturn! The Hyper Mode in this game, REALLY adds to the replay value!! Any button masher can look like a pro with Hyper Mode on!!!
This game is one of the sole Reasons my Saturn is STILL hooked up.
I had VF2, VFremix and Megamix as a kid. I first played Vipers today along with Megamix and realized that Megamix is basically Vipers on steroids. @1:54 Bean's back is broken.. Fatality!🤣 Ive never seen that happen in game.
Proud to say that a copy of this game should be arriving at my house this Friday, as well as a regular Saturn game pad, a 3D gamepad, and TWO Virtual Arcade Sticks ( the 2 gamepads/2 joysticks only for 30 bucks in total )

i can't get over the bear with the cowboy hat, he doesn't punch or kick or nothing he just floats around into things
This is one of my favorite Saturn games. There were a lot of great fighters that only came out in Japan, such as Waku Waku 7, Cyberbots, and Power Instinct 3: Groove On Fight, but, Fighters Megamix came out here, and is pretty good.
one of my favourite games on Saturn... kicks butt of any Tekken back in the day
That desert stage was awesome!
This game was my childhood, introduced me to fighters.
This the coolest thing I have ever seen! I would have never thought about fighting against a car.
Hydro Thunder, for the Dreamcast, gave me my first taste sailing as the Titanic and racing against minuscule speed boats; good times!
I loved this game. I had a Sega Saturn way before I had playstation. I think this is my favorite fighting game of all time.
That Hornet Daytona USA car in this game is just too hilarious!
I like to think of this game as a Sega Smash Bros. even though it came out 3 years before. I love this game, I'm so glad it came with my Saturn!
that looks like the craziest fighter ever!
The car cracked me up :)
And the blue duck getting his back broken on the fence.
The game looks really damn good for a Saturn game, both gameplay and graphically.
Also, I like how there are Sonic the Fighters characters and stages in it. Great stuff (and what the hell is with the Daytona car).
you never mention sonic the fighters arcade characters... >.<
i'm really glad this game is being reviewed though. =P
This game looks interesting because it has the characters from Sonic the Fighters/Sonic Championship in it.
An absolutely great game all around. So much fun to play and I loved everything about this game. What more could you want in a Virtua Fighter game.
I love the floating bear wearing a sombraro that doesn't move its limbs.
Ah the polygon. My nostalgia is tingling!
It is also to note that the game has characters from "Sonic The Fighters" in it as well. :D
This was one of the very last Saturn games to come out. It was really crazy and awesome.
I loved this game on my Saturn. It is one of the main reason's why I missed that system so much. Sega has to update the graphics and release this on Xbox Live Arcade!
this is my favorite 3d fighter for the Saturn. I love all the silly unlockable characters.

Another great review from the Classic Games Room. Great stuff.
I really what does game too. I think graphics has held up well. The Daytona car is what I remember most about this game lol! I remember this game just being fun to play. It was better than Virtua Fighter, better than Fighting Vipers both! I would love to see a good home brew sequel to this!
if you want home brew check out mugen but please don't sue me if it blows your mind...i'm broke lol :D
this was the reason my friend got a Sega saturn he stills plays it to this day. love to see sega release these game for Xbox and ps3 after all who whats to pay this on a wii .., not me
Have you heard of the Model 2 collection coming out on XBLA soon? Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers and 3 more other games will be released and they will have online play.
Bean was always my favorite character
and that Hornet car was the last thing you unlock and it was the HARDEST character to beat
@negativefps They're awesome and charming! THESE are old-school 3d graphics!
Janet was unbeatable if you knew the move to shoot her gun. To make the game faster you could unlock a hyper mode as well. There is also a matching pairs type card game hidden somewhere.
love this i had it some years back. two games come to mind though. Rival Schools and Ehrgeiz
this game has more contente and more replayability than the the games 2gens ahead whithout any DLC crap or pay-to-play crap. this was the golden era of gamming along with the ps2 and it is a testament that todays vídeo games are all about giving us bare bonés and charge us for as much as they can.

I can now die happy knowing that Smokey the Bear was a character in a fighting game.
I can't believe what my eyes just witnessed.
THE HORNET CAR?!
Man, I gotta get this game!
Frigg do I miss the old SEGA. We need them back!
Fighter's Mega mix was a great crossover !! Sega Saturn was also the choice for Capcom's golden classic(or vice versa) Marvel/Xmen crossovers because the Ps1 was crap on 2d fighters back then.
Amazing graphics and lighting effects for saurn!

I rented this game from Blockbuster as a kid on a whim and was SHOCKED at how good it was.
Fighters Megabit was developed by AM2 and all the fighters were taken from their games. Last Bronx, if I remember correctly, was developed by AM3, which would explain why it doesn't feature any characters from that game.
If you mesh the series' titles, Virtua Viper and Fighting Fighter are what you get. By comparison, Fighters Megamix doesn't sound awful.
Hah hah the car as a playable character in a fighting game. That's just too awesome!
Oh my freakin' GOD.....among all the most wierd characters they have, there's a car which stands on 2 "wheels" and fights? a CAR? That made my day, wish I had this one.....guess it's time to consider a Saturn!
The Daytona car and Kumachan were a right laugh in this game.
Ahahhaa the ur gameplay of Hornet at the back made me laugh. I dunno why but its jus funny XD
Forget a mere re-release... They need to UP the roster! As well as all the new VF characters and then all the Fighting Viper characters... they need to throw in all the characters from Last Bronx as well as many sega franchise characters as possible.
My god, it would rock. Tekken would be sweating bullets.
Im a huge fan of Fighting Vipers so I think Im going to have to find a copy of this!
Damn this game looks good.

u should google mugen and thank me later ;)

knowledge is nintendo power my friend heh:D
I love the bear, the arms and legs don't move. lol its so stiff that the bear needs to fly to attack
If there will be a Fighters Megamix 2, I'd want Anarchy Reigns characters in the game, especially Fei Rin and her sisters! I'd also want them to have brutal supers and finishers.
I just heard about this recently. Instant buy. Thanks for the heads up!
i love how the fighters fly ^^
I love the guitar when a fighting viper wins.
@3DSStrider Also, Golden Axe and Segata Sanshiro.
@MHMemeDoubleYourFun Actually there is a small portion of Sonic The Fighters and Daytona USA,like Bean,Bark, and Hornet!
@YourLocalVlogService And you would be so very, very wrong. The Bean in FMM is based off his StF appearance but Bean himself, or Bin rather, is from Dynamite Dux.
@sagat4 I'm so glad they did.
Holy crap, I used to play this all the time!
Woah giant bird head kick +wooshing noises = win
think I have the original "Not For Resale" Virtua Fighter around here somewhere for my Saturn, but dont think it would ever load to be able to play it
Thank god for CGR, buying this now because I really only have NiGHTS on my Saturn.
The duck is from Sega Arcade and Sega Master System game called dynamite dux.
That desert level was my fav.
Oh, so many memories, my favorite saturn game, played it to death. Also, playing as Mahler or B:M was considered cheating in vs mode at my place:D
Kumachan was the goat :D
considering this game came out for the saturn (which was never renound for its 3d capabilities) 14 years ago the graphics have aged well, shows what the console was capable of in the hands of competant devleopers :)
Also I still have the shirt this game came with. It's pretty awesome.
@RXgamers who doesnt. Mark is an awesome reviewer that truly sounds like he is not being paid for reviewing these games XD
Looks like a predecessor to Tekken. Pretty cool. The car is epic, though the wheels don't reach far enough. :P
I got my Sega Saturn model 1 off Ebay for 30 dollars, Best 30 dollars I've ever spent in my life.
man i thought the only consoles of sega i would own is the genesis. This game single handed make me want to own a Saturn
@NeverendingTwilight4 Agreeed also they should make a remake of a really call dreamcast game
Got a Jap Saturn recently plus Stepdown converter I'm in (UK) and feel we were cheated over here by the lack of awesome titles we missed out on. I was told to get this game. The games coming tomorrow and I can't wait.
Please don't say "jap" I BEg of you I bEg.
Nædrin , Ok Japanese.
Thank you! ^.^
