What I love about Steve is his fighting style based around countering offense with sways and fast punches. To see Phil getting schooled by a purple rank guv was such a cathartic moment.
What I've learned as a steve main and just playing tekken in general is just analyzing opponents playstyle. My opponent is playing safe?-poke with lows to open up. Opponent is aggressive throw counter hit and jabs to slow the offense. Opponent likes to sidestep throw in some homing moves and grabs to mix up the offense and stay in their face. Opponent likes to block a lot throw in the guard breaks and throws. The push and pull of the fight is exhilarating. Ducking and swaying when you finally download the Opponent is so stylish
You should hear the reason he gave for quitting Tekken 8. He said and I quote; "I don't want to put in the time to learn all these matchups, the Devs have lost their way with making fighting games too accessible.". God-tier delusion
@@breadburner7276 for offensive players yeah. For people on the defensive end, its kinda horrible now to play T8 or SF6. Defense is not as accessable unfortunatly, as in samsho or Blazblue or CvS2.
Idk how much you know about dsp lore but there’s a pretty notorious story about him being a child telling his parents to buy a wolverine figure or something that’s EXTREMELY telling about his childhood, and it’s twice as funny because he tells it like a story explaining how he was a genius logically as a child, you can look up dsp Wolverine or something if it interests you lol
you know, I completely understand getting mad in the heat of the moment, thinking something is bullshit when you're caught off guard and all that but it's impressive how some people like DSP go out of their way to never learn anything. Tekken 8 gives so many tools to improve and to learn how to deal with all sorts of situations, go to replays with all the advice prompts turned on, go to training and check the frame data or test if you can sidestep or even just download the ghost of someone that destroyed you and play defensively against it until you can deal with their most common patterns of attacking. Yes it is a game that can get extremely frustrating at times even compared to other fighting games but it gives you so many ways to improve and learn without going to some wiki to scavenge hidden data on moves or watching 500 million hours of youtube tutorials(though youtube tutorials for Tekken 8 are great and I'm thankful to all the people making them) that the only excuse to not get better is not wanting to put in any effort.
It doesn't help that Phil constantly insults players for beating him in a videogame but then cries and wonders why people don't like him. I get getting upset, but I personally never insulted the people unless they were straight up being toxic on purpose because I got that they didn't do anything wrong by being better, it was frustration to myself. Phil even says that people who beat him are terrible people
He gets pissed off and instead of watching replay, hitting the lab, or looking at input, he demands chat tell him how to win. This man child is 40 years old by the way
I say shit like DSP does to myself sometimes while playing and out of frustration, I think most people do. The difference is, DSP really BELIEVES those stupid things. When I say "this fucking guy just keeps doing that bullshit ___ move. Just rushing me down and doing it over and over again, fucking asshole" ~ I'm mad because I just wanted to play right now, I don't WANT to go hop into lab, stop queueing for actual gameplay, and learn how to fix my problem there. I want to WHINE. But myself, and most people, aren't truly deluding themselves into believing these comments, and I'm also not broadcasting to a live audience. It takes a special kind of person to be that delusional to an audience of people and then attempt to stand on that business. I will always be in awe of that kind of behavior, so I will continue to consume DSP compilations during my lunch breaks. lol
Normal people will shout "there was nothing I could do" in the moment, but after half a second of reflection, they ask "what was I suppose to do in that situation?" Then they try to figure it out. Especially in fighting games I've watched people get clowned on by some cheesy shit, then they menu to the training mode so fast the menu sounds like it's having an aneurysm. Or they watch the replay in slow mo.
I flag every match where I get absolutely cheesed on and then use the punishment training replay stuff to explore my actual options I couldn't pull out of my mind during the match. Honestly, it's stuff like that which has enabled a lot of mediocre players like myself to level up on knowledge checks so fast compared to any other fighting game I've ever played.@@vivil2533

This is a very fantastic video and DSP is such an interesting case study of both fighting games and content creation. I just got done reading Daigo's book recently and DSP is the antithesis of what Daigo's book goes over in terms of fighting games and lifestyle choices. It's a very interesting read and it kinda just makes DSP's whole case even funnier LOL. Fantastic video like always CT.
The most fascinating thing about his excuses in Tekken 8 is that some of them don't even sound like excuses. For example, he frequently says he lacks character knowledge. You'd think that is him admitting his flaws, but not only he uses that as an excuse, he also insults any player who exploits his lack of knowledge.
he usually follows it with a 2 minute speech about how he's a high level player but he doesnt have all day to study all of the character moves because he has a busy adult life
I recently saw him for the first time after several years of ignoring him, and I was amazed by how little he's changed. It's like he was frozen in a tank somewhere the whole time.
I'm on my wonderful trip from games like MGR:R and DMC (thanks for tutorials!) into the hellish depths known as FGC. I get my a*s handed to me regularly, but the sheer depth of such games and visible progress I make make it impossible to stop. With "I did nothing wrong" mindset like DSP's, getting nowhere is really no surprise to me.
Also, another note about Phil and SF6. Once he hit Master, he made the excuse that ALL PC players are cheating because they have super expensive rigs and even have modified operating systems that allows them to play better (and yes, FGC OS does exist, but it's been proven that it doesn't give extra benefits). Not only it's been proven that PC players don't have an advantage, but prior to this, Phil bought a 300 dollar pro stick to stomp casuals. He didn't have any complaints when he had better equipment than other console players, it was only when he started to lose that he accused PC players of being cheating tryhards. Complete hypocrisy and never takes any accountability whatsoever. Forever on Level 1.
Phil is fascinating. I have never seen such a perfect example of creating a bubble and staying in it. Politics, social stuff, etc all pale in comparison to this man.
There's a video of him playing Snake Eyez and he's like "OMG it's SNAKE EYEZ! the best zangief in THE WORLD. NOOOO! what could I possibly do against SNAKE EYEZ! the best zangief in THE WORLD! I'm dead. I stand NO chance!" he's honestly like a child

13:30 When DSP does scrubby play like this it is "a thinking mans strategy" when anyone else does it "lame brained scrubs playing in lag". Great video CT!
This video is AAA+ prime goodness. Thank you! It's awesome to see his trash skills analyzed. I'd be stoked to see more of these, if you've got the stomach for it!
Two days after you made this video, DSP had a three hour stream of him playing in purple ranks. And, he got destroyed, even demoted back to red ranks. He claims that everyone he played against was a braindead spammer who wanted to be good at fighting games, but weren't willing to git gud so they just spam bs online. He is now extremely strongly considering quitting Tekken outright. The exact same thing happened when he played SF6. He grinded, he climbed, he reached his ceiling. He had three options then, the same three options he has now. Just keep playing and roll with it when he loses. Lab and practice and strive to improve if he wants to keep winning. Or, option 3: quit when the going gets rough because he's not winning as much as he wants to. I don't hold anything against Phil for not being the best. There's no fault in being bad at a game. The fault with Phil lies in his very toxic attitude towards the game and the players when he loses. He can never hold an L.
man, it befuddles me why he plays this game then. If he's not just casually playing for fun or trying to get better at the game by learning from mistakes and learning matchups then idk what he's playing for.
11:08 This kinda thing always bugs me. I don't play this game but like... he has a trophy beside him from a Tekken 3 locals tourny that he only bring out to kinda half brag about playing well back in the day... and in general he has always played the same characters in all his Tekken plays: King, Paul, and a random odd character like Akuma or something. He should kinda know how to play King at this point...
Also, from what I remember, that trophy is from a mall that was hosting a tourney, not a serious event or anywhere with actual players, so he's basically just bragging about stomping kids that went there to play and have fun.
See the difference between LTG and DSP is that he's funny, and it's funny to see him rage, even though he has a lot of problems. DSP is just sad to watch. He's actually that pathetic.
The thing about king FFN2 is so goddamn funny to me. I'm a completely new character, literally JUST picked up ranked, and I already know about that move, it's something I need to use more. It's also something I'm constantly wary of going against other Kings because of how good of a low it is.
you shouldve mentioned his new years resolution for this year. his resolution was to not be toxic to his enemies in fighting games. he immediately failed and memory holed it
That bit about f, f, N+2 is the first time it really felt like he was trolling. Even if he hadn't played King in the past, it's difficult to believe that even the dumbest player wouldn't try ducking at least once.
The thing that annoys me most about DSP in fighting games is that he just rejects fucking reality. The screen says 20ms ping 0 packets lost and 0 rollback frames and DSP will say ''the game lies i can feel it lagging''
Anyone else feel he's doing this at this point on purpose? I feel like most of his views at this point just come for the salt and whining. He could be leaning into lolcow status for the views and money and doesn't care.
every time Dsp complains in fighting games he (or games in general) he finds every excuse in the book. "oh the game is lagging, my button didn't come out, the guy is button mashing or spamming, or he got lucky, it's not balanced" ect how is anyone supposed to learn anything from Phil?
Fun fact: he's been complaining about his moves not coming out ever since he played in arcades back in the late 90s. He used to write these "reports" about locals he went to (which was more of a journal) and he mentions that his buttons didn't work and that's why he lost lol
I'm, at best, a casual FTG player myself. But shouldn't "It's all mid screen button spam!" be easily beatable for anyone with basic knowledge about their character? He's playing Yoshimitsu, a character with a lot of movement gimmicks. If all your opponent apparently does is spamming buttons, it should be easy to throw them off using movement gimmick, no?
Combo spam might be my favourite term in anything ever, in fact I've heard it before, but in a non-fighting game. For Honor. A LOT of scrubby players who tried that game really loved to say "combo spam" in a game with no actual combos at all. I'm glad DSP also says it, very comedic. Also on the note about Flash, I can't remember either if NSS flash was nerfed, but it feels basically the same like you say, I think? I think at most you just can't do as many flashes in combos as you used to be able to, assuming you could chain multiple in a row to begin with, or bothered to do so, I believe that specifically was changed for NSS/Heat Flash.
Also god damn, "he didn't time it" as well is really getting me good. Nearly every time he gets Rage Arted it's because he just mashes immediately after hitting somebody, ignoring that every single character in the game at low HP has an armoured move that could potentially win them a close match if somebody is careless. From the looks of things, at least half of them were done on reaction to him pressing a just about seeable low. Rage Art can be kind of annoying in situations where you think you should be able to press your offense but cannot, but all it takes is adaptation, baiting them with movement, and just punishing since every since RA is -15 afaik.
Man, I don't know how people can watch him. I get enjoying rage and stuff, but it isn't even rage. It's like a petulant child trying to throw a tantrum but keeping calm because his mom is watching him. He just practices a few combos, repeats them, and cries when he loses. I bet he goes on 20+ lose streaks daily because anyone halfway competent will see them in the first round and body him forever after.
14:11 I like to add to that list. A boxing kangaroo, boxing dinosaur, robots, dudes transforming into devils, kung fu bears, and literal gods! All of this in Tekken 1-3 which Dave claims was the "golden era" of Tekken.
I got salty as well a time back. but ya know what? i learned to take the chill pill, really stay calm and see what works, and what blows me up. results will be there way faster that way take care guys, lova yall
21:29 "sometimes i get way too hyped for my own good" honestly same, but after about 15 minutes of DSP doing the same things over and over again on Yoshimitsu and losing, seeing you get hyped on a perfect with a number of different moves he can do, honestly is like going from eating the same candy bar over and over again then switching to a pizza. i'll take more of this, please.
It's insane that DSP thinks Yoshi can just walk up and just spam Flash in your face, when Flash has been a counter attack since Tekken 1. Also the nerf that made Flash "useless" simple made the hitbox shorter so that you didn't do it twice in a single wall carry combo, which was insane, considering the hit state it puts you in while launched. Phil really should go back to SF6. Tekken 8 is a big boy game that he's not ready for. EDIT: Goddamn! You play REV2 AND watch Eyemusician!? You sure we ain't twins, homie!?
Slightly incorrect, his Tag 1 counterpart had a Flash that could be used offensively given the large hurtbox it used to have, in combination with his old Bad Breath made it a hassle to deal with him due to the constant fakeouts to bait and mix you with.
10:05 another error in the notes "it's a low" : Yes it is, but it starts @ 18f + high crush, it's almost irreactable, you cannot block low on reaction for this move. Yes, King is in fact BROKEN for real, especialy for casuals (wich DSP is)
1) Yes it's unreactable, but the King was approaching DSP with it nearly every time he engages with him. With the fundamentals DSP claims he has, he should have learned to block it. 2) DSP is not a casual. At the time of me making this video, he was watching high rank matches while incorporating things in his gameplay. And he has knowledge of other fighting games.
Your closing statement is on point. He doesn't want to grow as a player or a creator. He expects everyone to hand him W's just because he was a big name once on the internet but needs to be dragged kicking and screaming into every form of upgrade/improvement that he does
Phil has reached purple rank three times by now and its usually by grinding against lower level characters that the game puts him against after a losing streak. Two out of three attempts took him a good long while as well.
It's easy when streaming is your job and have way more time to rank up against lower ranks playing at odd hours during the weekday, if anything once you realize he isn't ranked higher for being a guy who streams as his job it becomes sad.
It sucks cause he's actually decently ranked and has some understanding of the game's fundamentals, but when you externalize all your downfalls instead of using it as an opportunity for learning it'll make you hate the game and never feel like you're the one in control. With the excellent practice and replay features the game provides, every match can be used to learn something new and improve yourself But telling that to DSP out of all people is like talking to a giant hollow watering can
There was a time i use to unironically like phils content. Way back when i was a child still. He wasn't the Lolcow we know today. Funny asf this is how he turned out compared to others i started watching at the time.
I play fighting games since the SF2 era and I can assure DSP thinks he is better than anyone who is not famous like those pro players, just because of he plays fighting games since the 90's. I hate when he treat his opponents like trash, when he himself plays very badly most of the time
My favorite excuse of his is that, you didn't beat him, he just doesn't know your character. As in, Usain Bolt is not faster than me, I just can't run faster than him.

I wrote "Nah, he played super well" and a small part of me hoped that Phil would have an actual, decent, reasonable, and humble response to that. Needless to say, he did not pass the test. 😂After that, I spent about 10 minutes donkey-laughing and probably woke up the old woman next door lmao.

Good Steve's are the bane of my existence I respect them a lot though
You should hear the reason he gave for quitting Tekken 8. He said and I quote; "I don't want to put in the time to learn all these matchups, the Devs have lost their way with making fighting games too accessible.".
God-tier delusion
Yeah I heard him say that and I had to rewatch it again.
He doesn't realize what he is saying. The old age is getting to him.
these times are peak fighting game accessibility wtf is he on
@@breadburner7276 for offensive players yeah. For people on the defensive end, its kinda horrible now to play T8 or SF6. Drive Impact is an armored, plus on block, counter hit launching move, that guardbreaks close to the corner. It is quite literally the worst idea anyone at capcom ever had.
Defense is not as accessable unfortunatly, as in samsho or Blazblue or CvS2.
He must've that childhood when everyone had to clean his mess because he thinks it's everybody else's problem

I will always be in awe of that kind of behavior, so I will continue to consume DSP compilations during my lunch breaks. lol
Normal people will shout "there was nothing I could do" in the moment, but after half a second of reflection, they ask "what was I suppose to do in that situation?"
Then they try to figure it out.

**gets hit by the same move three times**
**doesn't block once**
"I cAnT sToP iT !!!!!!!11!!!!"
Seeing DSP and Black DSP playing TEKKEN 8 is such a treat. The fighting game Lolcows going full force these last few days.

Phil is the least chill Yoshi I've ever seen in Tekken
He can never hold an L.
update on that: he declared he's no longer playing tekken lmao
"everything is counter hitting me"
STOP PRESSING BUTTONS
man, it befuddles me why he plays this game then. If he's not just casually playing for fun or trying to get better at the game by learning from mistakes and learning matchups then idk what he's playing for.
He keeps dangling the idea that he needs money to his viewers. So most likely he's playing the game because he has supporters giving him money.
6:50 "you're not timing anything you're just button pushing" bro is complaining that his opponent is playing the game 💀
"You can never defeat another if you know not how to defeat yourself. "

At first i was thinking there's no way he's gonna complain about Steve punching, HE'S LITERALLY THE NICHE BOXER THEY REPLACED HIS KICKS WITH WEAVES
See the difference between LTG and DSP is that he's funny, and it's funny to see him rage, even though he has a lot of problems. DSP is just sad to watch. He's actually that pathetic.
Lmao, that clip at the end where DSP whiffed a move and reflexively said button spam as he saw the punish coming from full screen.
The thing about king FFN2 is so goddamn funny to me. I'm a completely new character, literally JUST picked up ranked, and I already know about that move, it's something I need to use more. It's also something I'm constantly wary of going against other Kings because of how good of a low it is.
you shouldve mentioned his new years resolution for this year. his resolution was to not be toxic to his enemies in fighting games. he immediately failed and memory holed it
Isn't this the same man who did that infamous and outrages mgs 3 snake eater playthrough?
I like that he gets mad at a guy for mashing rage art, when rage art is a move that ONLY HITS YOU IF YOURE MASHING (if you're standing).
Glad to see another chaser vid!!
That bit about f, f, N+2 is the first time it really felt like he was trolling. Even if he hadn't played King in the past, it's difficult to believe that even the dumbest player wouldn't try ducking at least once.
I cannot play the game unfortunately but I am glad to hear you are enjoying Tekken 8. And yeah DSP is still getting bodied.
LMAO I DID NOT THINK THE GUY I WATCHED DMC 4 TUTORIALS FOR WOULD MAKE A VIDEO ON DSP
This is gonna be peak entertainment
The thing that annoys me most about DSP in fighting games is that he just rejects fucking reality.
The screen says 20ms ping 0 packets lost and 0 rollback frames and DSP will say ''the game lies i can feel it lagging''
Anyone else feel he's doing this at this point on purpose? I feel like most of his views at this point just come for the salt and whining. He could be leaning into lolcow status for the views and money and doesn't care.
Nah he's definitely like that off camera too
I never thought I'd see a video of you about one of my favorite lulcows. There are layers to this roach!
every time Dsp complains in fighting games he (or games in general) he finds every excuse in the book.
"oh the game is lagging, my button didn't come out, the guy is button mashing or spamming, or he got lucky, it's not balanced" ect
how is anyone supposed to learn anything from Phil?
Fun fact: he's been complaining about his moves not coming out ever since he played in arcades back in the late 90s. He used to write these "reports" about locals he went to (which was more of a journal) and he mentions that his buttons didn't work and that's why he lost lol
“If he didn’t block that I’d have won” yeah he played well
I'm, at best, a casual FTG player myself.
I would love to fight his Yoshi, as a TK Reina, the scariest thing is flash, him never using it is a godsent.
Holy fuck, Chaser's back.
Nah the range was also nerfed. Even so, it still works pretty well.
The goat returns
Loved the vid but man having to watch all these DSP clips definitely did some damage to my brain
How did you think I felt when I randomly watched a stream of his? 💀
The dude never stops complaining.

"sometimes i get way too hyped for my own good"
honestly same, but after about 15 minutes of DSP doing the same things over and over again on Yoshimitsu and losing, seeing you get hyped on a perfect with a number of different moves he can do, honestly is like going from eating the same candy bar over and over again then switching to a pizza. i'll take more of this, please.
Bro gets smacked in every game. Bro complains just as hard in sf6 lol. He only moves to new games to get the new game hype viewership.
If you play yoshi, eyemusician is a great reference.
What? Yoshimitsu didn't even have Flash in Tekken 1. It was introduced in 3.
I think I lost it when he accused a Reina player of having no skill for "spamming" the PEWGF on one of his streams
Your closing statement is on point. He doesn't want to grow as a player or a creator. He expects everyone to hand him W's just because he was a big name once on the internet but needs to be dragged kicking and screaming into every form of upgrade/improvement that he does
"you pick a spam character, congratulations. You suck"
*plays Yoshi*
i like in his sf6 streams when he's yelling about how he never pressed anything and you just see "Counter hit" on the side of the screen
Seeing streamers and pro players of other fighting games get hard stuck in orange and red ranks further cements this as my favorite tekken
I barely got out of red ranks (was stuck at tenryu for a few days). how tf did DSP get to mighty ruler?
With the excellent practice and replay features the game provides, every match can be used to learn something new and improve yourself
But telling that to DSP out of all people is like talking to a giant hollow watering can
Flash has 6-9 frame start up???
There was a time i use to unironically like phils content. Way back when i was a child still. He wasn't the Lolcow we know today. Funny asf this is how he turned out compared to others i started watching at the time.
I play fighting games since the SF2 era and I can assure DSP thinks he is better than anyone who is not famous like those pro players, just because of he plays fighting games since the 90's. I hate when he treat his opponents like trash, when he himself plays very badly most of the time
this dude is still streaming and is relevant enough for anyone to notice him?!
My favorite excuse of his is that, you didn't beat him, he just doesn't know your character.
As in, Usain Bolt is not faster than me, I just can't run faster than him.
