Had no idea the caps were so bad. I was worried about head gaskets but just bought motorcraft cap so hopefully that's all that was wrong. Now if I can figure out how to keep my lower hose from slipping off I will be good. Great video
How would a bad cap cause a leak and where would i lleak out i don't see a drain hose on my 6.0 and it drips down the bell housing looks like maybe the passenger side behind the engine
Could you tell me where and what to purchase as far as the adapter you’re using ? I’m having a hard time locating a threaded end to fit the coolant cap and then to the pressure tester. Thanks
I see this video is a lot newer than Powerstrokehelps’s video. He doesn’t recommend Motorcraft but Avanced Auto. Did Ford finally update their cap??! What is the absolute best cap on the market to get?

I have a 2004 f250 6.0 and I have noticed my degas has some pressure if I remove the cap after I drove it .... and there is steam coming from it too but i don’t know what it means .... any help is appreciated
I have a 2006 f350 dually 6.0 powerstroke. My top amd lower radiator hoses are holding a lot of pressure. So much pressure that the top radiator hose is releasing pressure and antifreeze around the hose clamp. If i release the pressure off with the degas cap then the pressure releases from my radiator hoses. I just bought this knew cap. But it is not a motorcraft cap. Does anyone think the cap could be the problem?
I have same issue just saw bubbles coming out top radiator hose with clamp i tightened clamp maybe the thermostat going out going to change out my thermostat and radiator hose and call it a day
When I release the cap I here it suck air and coolant rises just a touch I'm not loosing coolant zero leaks but is this normal seems strange normally gasoline engines wanna shoot coolant out of you crack the system seems like it's sucking not pressurizing
Brainiac Productions I use gold, g05 is the same. Peak global heavy duty works fine as well. As long as your running a coolant filter you can run pretty much anything
Had mine bulletproofed and about 18 months later started getting the air intake sound but doesn't overheat. I saw it could be the cap, fan clutch or gap in hose.
I have a 06 f250 and I tested my head gasket with the degas bottle gauge setup. Under full acceleration runs I got 6psi. I'm not sure if my cap is leaking and giving a false reading or 6psi was a true reading. Should I be worried about the 6psi. I hear youre suppose to be 4-5
the problem with most coolants Is it eats the cast away from the block.. kinda like a degreaser. the motorcraft cold has a film to it to protect the block. the cast from the block is what kills the oil cooler and egr coolers. running a coolant filter kit will help a lot.
hi josh, great video, can you make a video on diagnosing white smoke that smells like diesel, also maybe a blue smoke diagnosis video at idle. Thanks in advance and keep the videos coming cheers
@@Dieselpitstop hey have a question is the MIN the new max on the degas bottle? on 2007 ford f250 6.0 because I don't want to overfill the coolant on my truck
You say to use an OEM cap, but what failed originallY? What powerstrokehelp.com, the oem caps fail at an extremely high rate and some believe they are contributing to head gasket failures. The boiling point is thrown off by the failing cap. Just get a stant cap and be done with it.
Mark Miller i wondering the same. I just bought a huge multi set and it doesn’t even have one that fits the 6.0 cap to test. If you find out can you post here please?
Side note..flush your 6.0 and change cap ever 2 years...my oil cooler failed into the cooling system, no water into oil..so I had mine flushed the expensive way and there's a plastic y pipe under the degas bottle..if that cracks you will need a new engine..waiting for a after market metal y to come out
Joe Berenguer diesels are not under vacuum load. They are under pressurized load. Gas cars are vaccum. This is why diesels have a separate vacuum pump.
@@Dieselpitstop hey I have 2007 Ford F-250 6.0 what’s the refill level to on the degas bottle is it the Min line ? Don’t want to over fill the coolant people are telling Min line and 1/4 below Min line don’t know which one at cold temp of course?
So I have a 6.0 and am noticing that after the truck is warm and around 2500-3000 rpm I’m getting a loud high pitched hiss/squeak coming from the engine bay. At first I thought it was a bad belt or pulley checked those the best I could all seemed tight. Checked all my boots and those seemed fine all well. I’m thinking that it’s a bad cap but am unsure. Is there anything else I should check?

i second this. My truck had both problems and the coolant cap fixed it and the lower hose i took two worm clamps and got it tight on there.
Adapter for the pressure tester on the cap itself is a Stant 12029.
Do you have the special tool number for that coolant cap pressure test adapter?

A $6 part. I bought a Dorman de-gas. Works perfectly.

What could go wrong by over tightening a cap? I have one that doesn’t have the click.
Will a cap loosen up by itself

I bought a factory cap from the dealer, tested and the pressure starts to drop. Any suggestions?
Stant 10238
I’m having the same problem and just ordered the stant 10238

Do ford caps go bad? Just bought a ford one a few months ago and it’s spewing shit all over, I don’t think I have blown HGs
FBI they can but if you just replaced it then I’m guessing heads or head gasket failure.
6.0Doctor that’s u fortunate lol. 122k studded and deleted and looks like she decided she didn’t want any of it. What else should I check to make sure
Pull heads and pressure test them and check head gaskets. 99% of oem heads are cracked. I oring every head that I install on 6.0’s and 6.4’s.

Nemsk you should pressure test the cap or go to ford get a new cap for $13 and retest.
What's your opinion on the Sinister diesel degas bottle and cap setup?
Caps are junk mine lasted 48 days for $60 that's terrible
Hey Josh,
what coolant would you recommend for the 6.0 powerstroke?
I use motorcraft gold.
Been doing research and Cat ELC (red) 50/50 seams to be the best so wont clog the oil cooler. Any thoughts?

pretty sure international fills the 6.0 with the ELC stuff your talking about. the cat EC-1 rated stuff.

So.. Bad caps could be the issue to most "blown" headgasket..very very interesting
Well Explained, please keep in mind some of us have head phones on and the slamming caps on a hard surface is LOUD!
You should have a volume button somewhere there snowflake.

I've had 2 ford oem caps - good for about 50K, when after market on #3
Good info but why did U not redue it anfter hearing all the mike banging. did U think that was normal?

You can get them on rock auto. I just ordered one through snap on. I will post part number when I get it
Derek Stanley did you get that part number?

Ive never had a factory cap click that loud

Boost leak. Mine was leaking right under the intake from the plastic pipe coming from the intercooler to the intake plenum
You have to pay attention to the sounds that you’re making near the camera dude
