@@CyberJedi1 no its not completely unnecessary, gta4 even today had a physics engine so unoptimized for pc that even in 2008 you needed an 12gb ram TOP of the line machine to run it at atleast 20-30 fps, its interesting to see a game which was harder to run than its successor run on a the top of the line machine of today (gta4 is harder to run thatn gta5)
Honestly I feel like the ps3 version of the game actually could have ran great and looked great if they leveraged more of the spu’s that the system had which could handle specific tasks in games extremely well, but then again the console only had 256mb of memory and was not random access memory but instead directed memory, and spu’s were very hard for developers to work with.

GTA 5 his highly unrealistic. those are just arcade physics which are easy to drive. GTA 4 has realistic handling. The game plays in 2008 and most street cars have soft suspension and not much grip. its only frustrating if the skill is not big enough to drive properly with realistic physics. only negative is that they went a bit overboard with the soft suspension in sports cars. A bit more downforce and acceleration/ top speed for sports cars would have made it perfect. the whole reason why GTA 5 has arcade physics is because people complained that GTA4 is to hard for them. Thats why they made it much easier.

Fun fact about GTA 4. You have to use the console settings for all the draw distance sliders otherwise many graphics elements like grass and debris will not render correctly.

You really should play GTA IV with a 60 FPS limit. Without this limit, you may experience zoomed-in cutscenes, physics glitches (especially during mini-games or while riding a motorcycle), and other unpredictable issues. I also highly recommend to install Fusion Fix and maybe restore the original radio tracks if that's important to you. Happy New Year! :)
I finished this game and all its DLCs on my low end gaming laptop years ago, i5-9300H & GTX 1050ti, 8gb RAM. Never had any issues and it was so smooth.
pc port of this game still has a lot of problems, not gameplay related fully but it has, I recommend u watching TJGM video on how to fix GTA IV on pc, very easy and quick :D
What I really like about your videos is that you know the use of the frame limitation. So many other testers do not use it and are annoyed by stuttering at an average of 200fps, instead of limiting the frames to 180.
FusionFix absolutely decimates my FPS and makes the game look like blurry garbage due to the stippling effect changes. It's an incredible project, but I've never been able to get it to run well once it started getting updated again around last year or so and introduced a lot of the newer features.
This is from that era when people didn't realize that 10 or 20 gigahertz CPUs single-core weren't like 2-4 years away. Totally single-core locked, because they didn't realize Moore's Law was in its death throes.
I call it Shitty porting job. Crysis 1 was described in similar way. If they are making port which can`t run well on modern hardware (top tier PC in April 2008) and counting for 10GHz CPU to fix it in the future then it is just shitty programming :D 4 core processors were over 2y on the market including multicore PS3 and Xbox360 (6 threads).

This is the best gta game with attention to detail to date. CTW has mini games on jumpstarting vehicles, opening locks, operate cranes, & ect. Which I would hope future installments would have.
The easier way to make people understand how 8k is 4 times 4k or 16k is 16 times 4k is by showing them that it's being multipled by 2 for per axis in 8k and by 4 in 16k. (3840*2= 7680, 2160*2= 4320)
GTA IV deserves proper pc treatment with better optimisation , its sad in 2025 we still need modders and third party tools to fix the performance. Instead of remastering GTA 5 for 1000th time , Rockstar should make newer version GTA IV with modern graphics api support like RDR1 pc release

I recently reinstalled this game and playing it on a 4k oled (AW3225QF) with RTX HDR filter on. 7800x3d - 4070 TI S And replaying it now, this game was so ahead of it's time. Gives me back my childhood memories. Btw for me with DXVK mod and some others (there's a steam guide) I'm able to use 99% of my GPU all the time, and the game runs buttersmooth, no stuttering like you said you are experiencing.
I find I have better performance with older versions of the game and older versions of fusionfix or zolika patch. It is pretty hardware dependent. Top end CPU's from like 10 years ago seem to run it more stable. Actually an issue with a lot of new hardware. Can't run old games as well. Also this game is 32-bit so there's that.

I remember playing this Game in the lowest possible resolution at lowest settings getting like an acceptable 25fps. I'd never think the day where this Game would run at native 8k at 165fps
When i got the game back in 2008, i was running GeForce 9600GT 512mb vram and AMD Phenom 8650x triple-core and it was running smooth as butter probably around 60-100 fps.
Your new video series are very interesting , destroying flagships with ancient unoptimized games. We like them. But there is no substitute for ancient GPUs destroying new AAA titles.
Just picked up a pc with a gtx 1050 and 4th gen i5 processor hopefully a good starting point. Cant wait for it to come. Didnt want to spend unearthly amounts of money to play after work.

@@GHOST117HALOBOYCOD You don't understand. At a 32-bit process, you are hard limited to 2gb of vram. No matter what, the engine itself only can use 2gb cause of this.
Hey zWormz to fix the stuttering on GTA IV you need to put in a commandline.txt -refreshrate 60 or 120 with a couple of other commands, DXVK helps but you also need to config it a bit. Then after the config enable Vsync and it should be fine. Generally all you should need is Vsync at 120hz or 60hz though. (Rockstars Games running off the same variant of engine as GTA V don't like being pushed past 150hz specifically.) I would personally use 60hz for GTA IV though.

yep exactly. game only renders a certain amount of grass at any given frame so the map doesn't quite look like its supposed to vegetation wise

It's crazy how big of a difference DXVK makes. my RX6600 was struggling to reach 60fps at max settings and now it is locked 60 at max settings.

Hey zWormz to fix the stuttering on GTA IV you need to put in a commandline.txt
-refreshrate 60 or 120 with a couple of other commands,
DXVK helps but you also need to config it a bit.
Then after the config enable Vsync and it should be fine.
Generally all you should need is Vsync at 120hz or 60hz though.
(Rockstars Games running off the same variant of engine as GTA V don't like being pushed past 150hz specifically.)
I would personally use 60hz for GTA IV though.
