As someone who just went to OCS 237, my advice for anyone going is to adapt to the lifestyle and make sure you're ready to be pushed physically. DO NOT be phased by the pick-up phase when you get your sergeant instructors. Just remember that phase won't last long. If you mess up or get your s*** pushed in, learn from it and move on and DO NOT take anything personal. Secondly, make sure you're ready to be pushed physically throughout the cycle. If you are someone who strictly runs and does low weight/ body weight exercises, make sure you get in the gym and push some weight around. The vast majority of our drops were candidates who were good at running but did not prepare their muscles for the physical stress. HIT THE GYM! (and of course balance your running schedule) On a final note, find guys in your platoon that will help you get through it. Even though you get liberty at various points throughout the cycle, some people struggle mentally (these are the people who don't adapt to the training) which will affect your motivation. Learn, Adapt, Overcome.

Show up in the best shape of your life. Don't worry about weight lifter strength because you will lose muscle mass. Endurance and cardio should be your priority. Know how to read a map and how to use a compass. Learn how to climb a rope with your legs not using your arms or the O course will kill you. You will go through the O course 4-5 times in 1 PT session. If you can't climb the rope consecutively, you're done. Remember, the number 1 graduate and the last have 1 thing in common, they both put on a butter bar. If you go too fast or get sloppy, you will get hurt.

Good tips/vid. I completed OCS & commissioned 24 years ago. The mentality candidates must have to succeed at OCS has not changed. OCS is another world. Every training day you are in a high stress environment. Arrive at OCS ready to go in every way possible. Don’t show weakness - but don’t take yourself too seriously. Believe in yourself so you can push through the barrage of tough times. Play the game. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.

This was AWESOME!!!! The nametape idea is SO useful...
Question for you, I'm going to OCC 237 (Ship date, June 2) - how far out from ship date do you recommend studying the history and 5-para opord? What are some things that helped you understand the flow of the opord?

If you suck with history, start now! For the 5 PO, just practice writing out skeletons and you’ll understand the flow of it.

During INDOC when was the height/weight taken and did anyone fail that and then fail the tape too? If so what happened to them? Great video, thanks!

Its 90% mental, 9% physically and 1% academic but you can’t have one without the other. Finally you better want it. Most quit

For academics, is history the only thing you focus on? Or do you also have other subjects to study?
