And one more thing (not mentioned here):
Before starting using the phone reset it to the factory settings.
But the best thing to do:
Never buy a used phone! Of course the battery has been through many cycles, some of components may not work properly or may be phisically damaged, If you can't afford the most expensive phone at a given moment, simply buy a cheaper (NEW) one or even better use Your old phone until You can afford the one You really like or use the option that most of the mobile providers happily give You - payment in installments.
