Y'all, ALWAYS ask for an IMEI and if the phone has had any work done on, if they're the first owner, etc.
also I wanna thank you again for getting me into repair, I fixed up a bunch of phones and prepped them for the Christmas season and they're actually selling really well! I can finally buy a bit more expensive and personalised gifts for my relatives this year :) Not bad for something I started 6 months ago. I try to adopt your high standards as much as I can (I can't buy refurbished stuff yet cause that's wayyyyy too expensive for me) and I feel very proud of the phones I put out. Hell, might start doing repair vids soon if I can get a proper tripod lmao. Thanks for getting me into this :))

Just a question, looking to get into repair but can't understand all the different parts and how to diagnose. Any videos you watched to help you understand the basics?

    • @CrayCrayslab
      @CrayCrayslab 2 роки тому

@@child3219 just watched a boatload of Hugh and other random repair channels out there. If I had a question on how to change a certain part on a model I was interested in working on, I always looked at videos to determine if it was worth the hassle or not. (Some display replacements are a complete mess) It took me a few months of passive content consumption to even TRY to touch a broken phone. It's a lot of work for my stupid brain, especially for a person who has NEVER been into tech before.
My diagnosis aren't always right and it'll take a lot of trial and error to get the hang of it. There's a lot of guessing involved unless you've been doing this for a really long time, and even then you just go down the list of most common stuff that break or can go wrong.
My advice is to watch as many videos as you can, until you feel confident enough to work on a device. It'll get to that point, you'll start to itch on the inside to fix something. Phones for the most part are very modular and especially androids follow a few simple layouts. For your own sake don't start with iPhones and when you do, buy a couple broken old 4 or 4s to just tinker with, cause their screws and parts are such a hassle to deal with.

I think Android users especially would be wise to shop almost exclusively for used phones unless you really have a desire for something brand new that isn't on the resale market. As long as you know how to test the battery and you can find trusted sellers, you can save 50% or more of the cost. Even something like a used Note 9 or Pixel 4, is a terrific flagship feature phone with a more than capable processor and it's like 200 bucks

Just scored a 64gb iPhone 6s on iOS 11.2.2 today for my collection, But this video sums up about all the things I look for when looking for used devices. Some of the scams I see, I just don’t understand how people keep falling for them. If it’s way too good to be true, it probably is.

@@CentralPALocos Depends on where you get them and what version the phone is running, I know in the collector community some go for a premium but most eBay sellers are just selling their old ones that have been sitting in drawers for a while, I basically just look at the listing pictures to determine iOS version, and if I’m considering purchasing I tell the seller that I don’t want it updated. I managed to get my 6s on 11.2.2 for $80 and I have a 7 on iOS 12.1 that I got for $50 from a friend. I’d say a 6s still on iOS 11 in 2021 is rare especially with most them running 13-15.

My old 6s a1700 64GB on 12.4 my grandfather is using was really good when it was my daily, the SE on 13 is a bit worse, especially in the RAM department. 11 is still somewhat of a mess but historic at this point

The A9 devices plateau on 12, the a10’s can run 13 just without too much complications and the a11’s run best on 11-13, 14 wrecks the iphone 8 and 8 plus. It's not just the "independent scammers" you need to look out for. I called up T-Mobile to unlock a phone I bought on eBay. The first representative told me he'd do it "immediatlely" for $100; or I could call back and tell the next rep all the info I told *him*; phone#, pin#, billing address, etc. When I called back, *that* representative said I needed to pre-pay several additional months, since the phone hadn't been "used enough" by the previous owner. Oh, and I'll have to wait for the "appeal process", 10 business days.

However I do frequently buy used on many devices. But good advice. Do research, take your time, and ask questions. I usually buy from reputable business. Though that experience sometimes doesn’t always work out. But your likelihood of being fine is much better than not with business. People have tools that can rewrite the iPhone parts data to replacement parts including display, battery etc. Moreover these programming tools can alter the battery health of iPhone

I’ve had good success buying used phones off of eBay, always get the imei number and buy from a reputable seller…

I'm in the UK. So I bought a phone on ebay. However, ut was locked to Verizon in America. I went through hell to get a replacement. Finally, when I threatened to sue, they sent me a good phone. The seller didn't have any feedback or anything. So I didn't know.

Yes, you did know, just you ignored it. Never buy an expensive item from someone who has less that 20-30 big sales.
I never got scammed, when I used Ebay - I simply followed the previous rule and I bought brand new (unopened) expensive phones.

Worst thing I've found is carrier locks I bought an s21 ultra last year used that was confirmed paid off it was originally verizon and even Verizon said it was paid off and unlocked but insert another carrier sim it would work for 5 minutes then pop up a message saying carrier lock and kill the service. After many hours and an fcc complaint later it ended up being incorrect firmware on the phone. When you buy a carrier phone from bestbuy its originally factory unlocked with unlocked Samsung firmware but Verizon has some strange locking software that gets added and won't remove itself unless you go through Odin and reflash the phone with the Verizon model firmware as soon as it boots back up it immediately unlocks then you can reflash it to the factory unlocked firmware and have a working phone. Things like this shouldn't even be an issue but carriers in my opinion are worse then icloud activation locks. Not to mention unlock codes which some carriers will refuse to provide even if the phone is paid off completely and not stolen because your not the name on the account. To me it's the worst of the worst and there really should be some laws preventing these locks from being this hard to remove on something that is legitimately paid off and not stolen

Apple has launched Independent repair provider program in Australia. We are one of the IRPs who can service genuine apple parts with calibration after display and battery replacement.

IRP sadly locks you out of many repairs from what I've seen. Or maybe that changed recently, but you never know when Apple will screw you next.
I'm a Louis Rossmann viewer so I'm pretty skeptical of the "good things" that Apple has done recently. They look more like a strategy so that right to repair doesn't become law. They don't want to loose control.
But still, a good thing is a good thing and I have to admit that they've done good things recently. Also I wish for your business to be doing good.
Why did I write all this? I don't know. Please don't think I'm weird I have time to waste. I'll go waste it on something else because I'm looking like a fool.

You can bypass Icloud activation lock by replacing the storage chip in iPhones. I found a 12 Pro Max 3 months ago and unlocked it this way. And yes everything works.

I loveing to buy from your store, but there is no more options to choose and if I wanted to buy any product please make a world wide shipping and you can charge for shipping I would pay.
Every time I make a money to buy a smartphone on your store it has been already sold someone, I were thinking to buy Oppo find X, Samsung S10+ and Huawei P30pro but it has been already sold 🥺🥺

Hey Hugh! I gave my iphone to my mom 3 years ago. When i gave her to my phone, we created new account for her. Unfortunatelly My mom had forgotten her account name and id since she is old. One day, the "activaation lock" scrren appeared. As you can imagine we couldnt pass that screen so the telephone is blockedAnd we hadnt remember that account name so we couldnt save that accpumt for phone. Now the telephone is unusable for just that reason. İn apple service, they wanted us the Bill, but we had already lost that bill so many years ago. And the company that sold us phone couldnt find it also... Finaly the iphone is blocked and we couldnt use that phonea and no one can fix it. Can u help us?
