Just bought one straight from motorola's website last night for $399, shipping was free & will be here tomorrow morning. I chose this over the Motorola Edge + & Samsung S23 FE. Has everything I want/need & nothing that I don't want/need. Running Snapdragon too, it was a no-brainer. Great battery & charging. Military grade durability, awesome security, NO ALEXA!!! Ease of use when it comes to opening the flashlight or camera, screenshots & screen recording, and even a programmable red button on the side. Perfect phone, everyone should get one. Motorola is onto something here.
Glad to see Motorola stepping up their game on updates. I've been daily driving a Motorola One 5g UW Ace for a few weeks and was surprised to see it get a 2nd OS update to Android 12. I didn't expect it to go past Android 11 with Motorola's previous track record. I hope they continue this trend
@@timmturner I got android 14 and this months security patch so to be honest it's got more updates than I thought already. Just holding on to it til the Pixel 9 comes out
@@kaceygolden I loved Motorola phones and have had probably 10 or so including non-smartphones line the Star-Tac but they burned me one too many times and I've been a Pixel user since.
This looks like a very nice phone. Truthfully, I think the best part about it is that armored fiber back. This is a rugged phone that does not look like a boxy rugged phone. In fact, this is a really good looking device. In addition, there is a lot of functionality here. Although, I really wish it had dual SIM card ability in the United States variant. Playing devil's advocate, I haven't had really great luck with Motorola and updates. I really hope they support this device. Honestly, if I hadn't already purchased a oneplus 11 a few months ago then this would definitely be on my radar.
Thank you for a great review. I recently bought the ThinkPhone, and so far, I am quite happy with it. What I appreciate most at the moment is the lack of all the un-installable crapware that I had on my Samsung phone, and the need to register for a "Samsung Account" so they could hose up my Google contacts (because the Galaxy S phone client won't connect to Google Contacts to give you contacts search - you have to duplicate your contacts in the Samsung account, which causes all kinds of problems with maintaining your Google contacts database) Anyway the ThinkPhone is fast, smooth, with a clean native launcher and very good battery life. It has the native Android app launcher, which is clean, fast and usable, but I've run the Nova launcher for years so I can switch phone brands without having to deal with the quirks and learning curve of brand-proprietary launchers like Samsung's mediocre OneUI or the OnePlus (Oppo) UI. I don't get the negative reviews because this was marketed as a "business phone". I suppose it's because it doesn't come with a bunch of social media apps pre-installed (which to me is a big plus). But it's a powerful Android 13 device - I can install anything I need. My biggest "meh" is with the cameras. Not outstanding in low light. But for the $550 price on recent promotions, it's a heck of a phone, especially given it has 256Gb of storage, the carbon fibre case, IP68 & MIL 810H rugged certifications, and solid security and PC (Windows) connection enhancements. When comparing prices, be sure you're using apples to apples specs, especially since most prices you see for phones are for only 128Gb of storage.
I literally have a Pixel 7 as well and I just ordered the Thinkphone and I'm trading this one in, pretty much the same specs but the Thinkphone has a better battery plus that 68watt speed charger was to enticing to pass up.
To charge at full power 68 watts (you'll see turbo power 68W on the lock screen animation) , in my testing, you must use the included adapter AND cable. I've tried third party USB chargers and USBC cables(tb2,tb2,USB4) rated for over 100 Watts. Nothing will cause the 68w indication but the included charger and cable. Without both it appears to charge at 50watt max. Love the phone.
I know this comment is old. Through my own testing it seems Anker's GaN 100w charging brick with three ports with one of their 100w cables works and causes the 68w charging animation to trigger as well and it charges at that speed. Hope this helps you.
I still love my Lenovo t480. Basically I sold my late model Hewlett-Packard elitebook because I love my older t480. Dual batteries hot-swappable and I have a big boy extended battery which was really cool for my train trip.
I'm watching your video right now on the thinkphone. It's absolutely amazing. I love the flagship specs crammed into the square metal body. My complaints are that the speakerphone is not as loud as it should be. Also the auxiliary button has limited functionality. The single press for pause/play isn't reliable. The double press can't be used to launch apps and is only good for computers. It would be good if you had a long press option. Also I can't launch Google assistant with a double press of the power button. Other than that it's really good
I know you're talking specifically about the think phone but Motorola lately has been releasing quite a few decent phones I have the Moto Edge 30 Fusion the 256 12 gigs of RAM variant and it's a real nice device surprise not too many people talk about it at its initial release
I'm kicking myself for not seeing this earlier. The fact there was a 512 GB model of this would have been my phone of the year. Now I can only find the 256/8 GB model out there as the 512 GB ones are gone. Hopefully this year they'll release another iteration of the Thinkphone with the 8 Gen 2 or even 3.
This phone is remarkable and so much smoother than my pixel 7 pro... I'm really enjoying it... Plus the battery destroys my pixel 7 pro and that's with my 7P running Android 14
Where can you buy the 512gb version at? Do you recommend it over the Samsung s23 ultra? Is there anything you don’t like about about the Motorola phone?
So, Motorola in the USA has pulled a bait and switch! The USA models only have a SINGLE SIM, the other side of the tray is blocked! Does anyone know if I purchase the dual-sim tray if it will recognize the second sim? OR, should I just return the phone and say farewell to Motorola, support another company that doesn't lie? Their own website states dual nano sim.
I think my next phone might be a Motorola, I want something with a desktop mode, Pixels (I'm on my 2nd) currently don't support video out as far as I know., at least the A series. I also happened to get a ThinkPad Nano on a good sale so Probably a ThinkPhone 2024, or an Edge, either looks nice.
