The official audio from their performance of "Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça Ira)" from the 2024 Summer Olympics opening ceremony featuring composer Victor le Masne, and opera singer Marina Viotti.
Gojira made history as the first metal band to ever perform at the Olympic Games during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France on July 26. Working alongside composer Victor le Manse, the quartet injected their signature heavy riffs and punishing rhythms into the French Revolution-era song “Ah! Ça Ira”. Joined by French-Swiss mezzo-soprano Marina Viotti and nearly 300 classical musicians, Gojira performed from the windows of Paris’ iconic Concierge amidst a grand spectacle of pyrotechnics. The performance made international headlines and was widely regarded as one of the most talked about moments from the 2024 Summer Olympics.

the whole ceremony was incredible ! Im' french and we all thought it would end into something ridiculous or just too costly for what it was, but OH MY GOD IT WAS GREAT ! The masked flamebearer also was a great idea from Victor Le Masne. And that Mea Culpa part HOLY SHIT that was the icing on the cake !

As awesome as it was seeing Gojira performing and seeing Metal represented for the first time at the Olympics, for me nothing will ever come close to Muhammad Ali carrying the Olympic torch, struggling through Parkinson's and all and then lighting the Olympic flame in 1996.
It's hard to argue against this being the most iconic performance in metal history. Beyond the fact the performance and composition itself was flawless, the setting, the visuals, the historical relevance, the element of total surprise, and most of all, the massive global audience will realistically be impossible to top. Really the stuff dreams are made of.
It was a performance so unexpected that it was completely failed to be predicted by The Simpsons.

I remember waking up and hearing that Gojira was in the news - I feared the worst, like a member dying, but was instead greeted with this, and it was amazing to watch. The whole performance was the only thing my co-workers could talk about, and only 2 of them are metalheads.
Holy shit, it sounds even better with clear audio. Shivers down my spine for almost the whole song.
I love the fact that parts of this are the heaviest Gojira has been in years, and they did it in front of the entire world at the damn Olympics. Making metal heads proud 🤘

I can't even describe how proud I felt when I saw Gojira live in TV during Olympics ceremony. I was watching it with my family and when the band starts playing he was like: "Wait, that is Gojira? No way!" We were in shock. Then I felt so proud and then I my eyes went wet. ♥ It was the most epic thing I saw.. Thank you Gojira for this performance. ♥ ( BTW I was glad that comentator from my country was silent during perfomance, so we could fully enjoy)

My jaw literally dropped when I saw Gojira performing this! The build up, the setting, the history, the production - literally everything was amazing. One of the greatest moments in heavy metal history for sure.

There's something truly special about adding Opera & Orchestral Elements into anything Metal. It just makes the heavier bits feel all that more dark & foreboding, ESPECIALLY using a female singer paired with the male metal vocalist. The Violins pitch is sharp & contrasting to the bass & drums of metal it's literally meant to be!!
The Mea Culpa in his gruff, growl sounds so on point too! Very fitting for the meaning of this song.

To Gojira, The Olympic Committee, Marina Viotti and Victor Le Masne... This was the High Point of the Metal Community Worldwide! The entire planet witnessed a History Lesson and a spectacular
I didnt watch get a chance to watch the Opening Ceremony Live, but as my Social Media feeds blew up like an Asteroid hitting a planet at Mach Jesus...
I was awakened to the Godliness that had unfolded in Paris. The Setting, the Backdrop, the Theatrics. All of it was beyond words. I watched the video over and over and it gave me chills and I cried... every, single, time. Gojira took themselves to a whole other level and did so with the most spectacular presence, and grace, any of us have ever experienced!
All of you looked sooo excited and pumped to be there, in your hometown, playing in front of the world! VIVA GOJIRA! ¡VIVA LA REVOLUCIÓN!
