  • I took a walking tour in Atlantic City, New Jersey on a beautiful day. While taking a stroll on the boardwalk I noticed it wasn't full of people. Where have the people gone? This place used to always be full of tourists as well as the locals. It did not stop me from enjoying the day. I saw great places to eat and drink but I also saw businesses that were closed down. There were a couple of people on the beach taking in the view. People do come to Atlantic City for the casinoes, boardwalk, and the beach. Don't forget to Like, Comment, Share, and Subscribe.

The boardwalk is definitely nice to walk on. A lot of people take a walk or jog in the early morning for exercise or throughout the day.

Atlantic City is fun to visit. And improvements yes but they need to speed up the process. It seems like there's no urgency to do things.

Atlantic City is coming back! They just completed a new indoor water park, and new improvements are being made on the boardwalk and inside the casinos! My wife and I live 40 minutes north in Ocean county, and stay overnight in AC a least twice a year!

"Forgotten" city? Doesn't look too "forgotten" whenever I'M there. There are PLENTY of people, inside and out. What do you expect, New York City - like crowds? At least in Atlantic City, you can relax, and breath some nice, clean sea air, and be reasonably sure you're not going to be hit by a stray bullet. I've been going there a couple of times a year since 1987, and I can tell you that from then untill now, they've VASTLY improved / renovated the boardwalk and access to the beach, which are basically the two things I go there for, anyway. Not a huge gambler.

Good points. Atlantic City has definitely gone through changes. I guess it all depends on the person if is not or if it is the forgotten city.

I just came back from A.C. Stayed at the Hard Rock. Things to do is to go to the Light house and do the $10 dollar boat ride. Definitely it is a nice weekend gateway

I enjoyed the commentary and music in this video. Atlantic City has always been so popular its hard to believe it is now the forgotten city. I wonder what happened. Im glad that I subscribed to your channel to go along with you while you explore different states and destinations. Its helpful when traveling to know what different places have to offer regarding restaurants, bars, and entertainment. God bless you on this journey.

The city overall is a shadow of its former self. Once a grand seaside resort with lavish hotels and quality stores on the boardwalk and avenues. The casinos did bring jobs, but not high paying jobs and there is no city wage tax. Most casino workers live outside of the city and spend their money elsewhere. Politicians have made many many promises but have delivered on only a few. And there have been governors and casino operators including Steve Wynn who have deflected responsibility to do any improvements to the city as a whole. Approximately a 3 to 4 times the federal poverty rate in the city and a 70% renter rate is not a good thing.

Good points! I hope someone eventually does something. Atlantic City has so much promise if things were getting done to fix the problems there.

I don't think the city will ever return to its glory days. Those days are over. The federal government is partially to blame as well. Requiring sand dunes that block the ocean view from the boardwalk took away the view of the ocean. Also, an over abundance of federally subsidized low income housing. (Think who they vote for into government office) As of now, the population is considered to be mostly third world. Have you ever driven or even walked through some of the residential neighborhoods? As far as their main industry is concerned, there has been massive out of state competition that has eaten away at jobs and tax revenue. Online gambling also took away the need for anyone to drive there and stay at a casino. Casinos as a whole mainly keep their customers inside their properties and that doesn't do very much to help local businesses. And do you think that a city that wants to become the cannabis capital of the east coast is a good thing? Also, according to the fed, the city will be under water towards the end of the century due to sea level rise. A large portion of low income housing mainly in low lying neighborhoods along the bay have flooded during Hurricane Sandy. No doubt that they are filled with mold and mildew and most of which have not been elevated out of the flood zone or even cleaned up. The state currently controls the city due to financial mismanagement with casino tax issues. Also, due to the barrier island's remote location it will never become the Las Vegas of the east coast (think bitter cold winter weather) Sorry to sound overly negative but facts are facts.

Bader Field Renaissance project (look it up online) may be the saving grace of the city if it were to happen as promised. Billions of dollars in redevelopment as well as large amounts of tax revenue for the city may be the way to go. Not all are for it though because it would mean the beginning of gentrification which should attract more businesses and wealth to come to the city which it sorely needs. Squeezing out poor people would become a political football.

Yes I read on the badger field renaissance project and if it goes through would be 10 years before completion. We will see what they decide.

@ready_to_destination Even the boardwalk is filthy. There was human excrement out front of a couple of the closed shops, people begging, one person was screaming obscenities when he wasn't given money. The endless 99c stores selling crap, the constant stench of weed, broken glass, blood stains, etc. As soon as you step outside the casino its a dump.

Atlantic City has changed drastically throughout the years. I noticed a significant difference while filming there during the summer season compared to the fall season when there are less tourists. With all of the changes Atlantic City has gone through, it truly feels like the forgotten city.

But NJ still takes my property taxes and gives it to AC! Rampant corruption at the state and local level! This happens when you have a 1 party state running things! No checks and balances!

Good point!!! I guess people go inside and gamble since it looks nice inside the casinos. Instead of the horrors that they see on the boardwalk at times and especially once they get off the boardwalk and into the neighborhoods.
