  • Hi Guys, today I want to show you how to create soldered scroll earrings. I will touch on basics of soldering such as what flux and solder to use, how to solder freehand, how to create granulations and how add a gemstone using a bezel cup amongst other things.
    Have fun! And I hope you enjoy. Let me know what you think in the comments!!

    Finally, I found someone who could show me where in the heck soft solder would be used. Thank you for that and how to make a beautiful pair of earrings too.

    I've seen a wire wrapping version of this tutorial but I think your tutorial is an excellent demo for people who've just begun to learn how to solder. I like that you use salt and vinegar for your pickle because that's what I've always used ever since I first learned to solder a few years ago. I feel it's safer for me and the environment. I wanted to mention that I also use the salt and vinegar pickle for my copper jewelry and tumbling it removes the dullness and makes it shine like a brand new penny. If someone doesn't have a tumbler, they can scrub it with a brass brush and Dawn dish soap as a lubricant (I think some UK folks use something called Fairy). Anyway, thanks for an excellent tutorial. 👍 Cheers!😊

      Thank you so much! I am glad you think this is useful. I very much prefer the vinegar pickle. There are far too many chemicals in jewellery making and I try to cut down wherever I can. I agree with the dullness, especially with copper. I find it makes the metal orange and won't go back to its original shine unless I polish it. A tumbler is a great idea. Thanks!

    PS - melting jump rings also make consistently sized silver grain. It saves LOTS of time especially if you're needing to make a lot of melted balls/grain because you don't have to measure each cut of wire once you determine what size jump ring you need to melt to get your desired grain size.

    Great tutorial, I always get great how toos from you and this beginner thanks you. I love the info about soldering but I feel that it’s above my skill level at this time.

    Could I use silver filled wire instead?

    • @ImbaliCrafts
      @ImbaliCrafts  2 роки тому +1

      You can solder it, but you might expose some of the copper core if the silver layer gets too hot and melts. Having said that these only use a small amount of wire so I'd say give it a try. 😊

    If your making the earrings from copper - what type of solder do you use?

    • @ImbaliCrafts
      @ImbaliCrafts  2 роки тому +1

      It would still be silver solder. There is copper solder, but it has never worked well for me as I found it to be brittle and weak. If you are careful not to let the silver solder 'run' the joint will be hardly noticeable.
