Considering Moriah does like, 4 max per squishy makeover episode over the span of like, a week! Yeah, it’s a wee bit more extensive than I think Katie first thought lol!
@@salems.bytche It's probably even more ! I'm pretty sure she has multiplie projects/videos going on at the same time and the one completed goes out that week 😆
The paint will stick so much easier if you sand them first! That way it makes tons of tiny tiny holes so that the paint soaks into easier. Moriah wears a mask though, so she doesn’t inhale... squishy dust.
I love that you are showing all your followers that making mistakes isn't a disaster. It is a reason to do more research and get better. You now know way more than you did about painting squishies and that's awesome =D
Tips: mixing the puffy paint with the soft matte makes an even coverage. And always do thin layers for it to dry faster and more even in drying and in color.
time for a Royalty soaps Moriah Elizabeth collab ME can send Katie pictures of some of her Squishies and let her make soaps based on them and Moriah can make soaps and make squishy based on them also funny that i found this channel Moriah Evan and Kaitlyn all independent of each other (nerdycrafter i found cause of the 2020 wrap up yall did
These "random" videos are my favorite. They shake things up from your normal content and we get to see a different side of you. We still get the creativity, but in a different outlet.
Me, with crippling anxiety and a fear of failure, before trying any new craft: HOURS of research on the process, techniques, art supplies, and everything that could go wrong Every youtuber apparently: SCREW IT we're goin in blind boys
It makes for more entertaining videos if they're trying it blind, but they're not trying to teach anyone how to do the craft in those. if you're wanting to learn a new skill, then do the research first, it'll make getting started a bit better.
@@elizapi314 I'm sure, Katie did a little research, too. At least she watched a whole lot of Moriah Elizabeth videos 😅 Mykah and I though tend to over-research. Like, if we wanted to sew a bag, we wouldn't just by the yarn, fabric and some needles. We would research the options like thickness, structure, properties of the material and, like, ten possible techniques to get the safest and best result 😅
@@elizapi314 Definitely more entertaining! The chaos is half the fun!! The comparison between that mindset and an anxiety riddled perfectionist's (e.g. me) is just funny to me 😂
I agree about the preparation level thanks to the anxiety, I get that a lot less these days thanks to experience in a wide variety of media, at some point though, I found it more enjoyable to experiment and see how good I could do without any influence. It's a whole different challenge when you go in blind with the only expectation to have fun.
I think squishes are like cake decorating... Looks so much easier than it is. Some skills are learned the hard way... Squishes, cake decorating, soap making, pretty much every creative venture.
Sand paper everything, white base coats save paint, and if you want the colors to match your soap colors, mix your micas into your paint. For instance if your red is close but not quite right, mix in some of your mica red, just enough to shift it, but not enough to make a paste.
I actually really like the more painterly style! I think it could be fun to incorporate as a deliberate texture to contrast with a smoother, more uniform color application. Very cute!!
Haha that chaotic table feels so familiar. It's like my table when I'm painting with watercolors. It's a mess. Paint palettes, colorful tissues, test swatches and brushes EVERYWHERE. But I love it. XD
I, literally, just found Moriah Elizabeth's channel this past week and I've totally been binge watching her vids 😆. You guys should do a collab video or, like some kind of challenge to each other where maybe you have to do a soap based off one of her Squishies and she has to design a Squishie based on one of your soaps 🤷🏻♀️. Would be great to see you two Queens work together!
Nectarine and mint is so cute. I love faces though, but they all came out great. Learn something new that would have helped a couple of years ago when I tried painting one. ☺️
I love that you are open to more creative endeavors. However, and I mean this with as much respect as possible, I come here for soap and I'm very grateful for that content.
Katie, I love your channel. We have to visit Dallas often because my son has a lot of medical issues. We never know when we will have to make the drive. Your upbeat attitude and wonderful personalty has gotten me through a lot of hospital stays with him. Thank you for your awesome channel.
One of the reasons why there are so many brush strokes is that you are using the slick paint. Moriah said at the beginning of her squishy makeover series that she used a popsicle stick on the slick paint and a paintbrush on the matte paint. Hope this helps
Some thoughts (hopefully helpful) 1. Use a hair dryer to help dry layers. 2. Make your own nonstick paint mat by placing strips of painters tape over paper towels. You can create bigger or smaller mats as needed.
The one Katie referred to a piece of squishy bread made me think of Kamaboko that goes in like ramen. Similar to Narutomaki/Naruto, but the white and pink sort of fish cake. I also loved the fuzzy kitty slipper lol
Aww Katey, you are an ARTIST in your own way with the soap making.😊 I have been watching how you make your soap and they are very beautiful and detailed. You have such a creative mind and your understanding of which colors to use for each soap theme shows that you are an artist. As an artist myself (in painting and drawing) I appreciate the work you make on this channel with your soaps. Even when I watch you make those soap creations I think: " I don't think I can do that, I will just mess it up." Lol.😄 So don't think you are not an artist, art is made in MANY different ways, not just in painting or drawing. I hope this makes you feel more confident about your artistic myself.😊
Pro tip: she also mixes matte fabric paint with slick paint!!! I don't remember it when she said it, but it helps her lessen the layers needed while maintaining the flexibility of the paint.
I love your squishies katy!! Even of they werent perfect I thought they were incredibleee specially since moriah always says that beginning is the hardest
I'd love to see more squishy videos on this channel in the future, it looked so fun! I guess it's just one of those projects where you gotta get used to having them on the backburner a while whilst you do other things as they dry.
Hi I used to custom squishies years ago I do mix acrylic paint with fabric paint medium It makes this opaque...sleek paint is ok but layer of paint is super thick 😉 The mini soap I guess is a tofu 😁 and bread is a roll cake slice 😁 Another llast tip is to use white acrylic as a primer coat with the fabric medium then paint with posca markers
If you prime the surfaces with a matte white paint first it will help the color paints stick better and streak less. ***EDIT: Never mind. You figured it out.
Okay but that nectarine and mint soap squishy is the most adorable thing ever! I have never really heard of squishies before this (does that mean I'm old?!? Lol) but they are kinda cute. Will definitely have to check out Moriah's channel sometime!
I love that this video can be summed up as "Katie didn't watch the squishy video as closely as she thought"
Who else is watching this and asking where the sand paper is? Gotta rough it up! 🤣🤣.

@@bethanyspriggs wow I haven't seen that that emoji before! That is very cool :)
Katie + missing every time Moriah says she takes days to work on a single squishy.
Also apparently never having seen any of the episodes involving the BOX of bread-related squishies!
XD riight
@@leahgroess5361 worst part was I think it was a slice of cake roll but it just didn't have detail. But I guess my rye bread does also look like that.

The paint will stick so much easier if you sand them first! That way it makes tons of tiny tiny holes so that the paint soaks into easier. Moriah wears a mask though, so she doesn’t inhale... squishy dust.
Gotta avoid that squishy dust
@@salty_moss of course, you don't want to die from squishy inhalation
Porous, that's the word you are looking for.
In one part she said the squishies were porous, so they will be fine
I think Katie only said the edges were porous and not the whole squishy but maybe I missed that part…

I was thinking the same thing
Your sentence makes no sense at the end...but that would be a great idea
Katie could make a Moriah Elizabeth inspired soap. Rainbows, sprinkles, dessert or animal embeds, pastels,
it would be so cute!
Please do more of these. Also, pro tip- please sand the squishies before painting
I love how Katie treats every craft as equal to her own
It would be so cute to make a state fair soap set with Cotten candy and popcorn!,

Moriah mixes soft matte fabric paint with the puffy paint to get the paintable texture, FYI!
