Katie! I’d love to see you try old-fashioned soap making techniques! Like making soap without the stick blender in a way people would have done in the days of the Gold Rush or various times. I’m not even sure that information is readily available, but I’d love a historical soap making series!
I totally agree that it looks suspiciously like a jump cut to a real orange. I can't imagine with how much and the color they put in that it'd look so real... which brings me to my suggestion for a video or even a new series: instead of just showing the hacks and reacting, because you're already so good about telling us why it would or wouldn't work, why not do it their way, show the result, then show us how to do it the right way?
It's just them unmolding the original orange because someone in another comment mentioned they didn't show them removing the orange from the mold, just separating the orange from the edges of the mold. They just slapped the end of the mold prep where the soap unmolding should be.
For the orange bit: I think they took that from the Soap Fantasy channel: she's a really talented melt-and-pour artist, who has quite a few incredible home-made silicone molds.
I agree with Safiya. THAT is definitely a real orange and NOT a soap. And a resounding YES, PLEASE to a Katie/Saff collab of bad DIY soap ideas video. You two would have a blast and it would be fun to watch the beneficent mayhem that would ensue! 😁😍👍
Team orange. The "soap"'s pith thickens in the perfect areas where it typically wouldn't if you were spinning the soap around the mold. It's thickest at the highest point. Normally, if you have a scallop like that, the liquid will pool in the lowest point of the curve. The only way you might be able to combat that would be to spin it constantly at a higher speed that they did so that the centripetal force pulls the soap inward enough to coat the inner parts more. But I suspect you'd be more likely to get it drying midair rather than onto the segments. That said: I think the concept could work, just not exactly so perfectly or in the way they showed. Plus, the jumpcut makes it perfect for switching it back out for a real orange for the final reveal. These viral hack/DIY channels do that all the time.
It's definitely a real fruit!!!! My reasoning is that as general rule of thumb you can assume a hack is shady when it 1) looks too good to be true, 2) has cuts in the vid before the reveal, and 3) 9:01 I mean look you can see parts of the white peel on the outside bit of the fruit where it supposedly should just have been orange soap when she turns the mold
Magnetic soap holders are actually a thing and I love them! But of course it doesn't involve glue, just a little magnetic disc that you push into your soap and the magnetic holder sticks to the wall. It keeps my soap a lot more dry and less slimy than soap dishes do.
My husband and I made melt-and-pour soap for Halloween last year. We were aiming for red, orange, and yellow to keep with the fire theme of the rest of our Halloween videos, but the colorants we used were really weak, and it came out Caucasian flesh colored. Which I guess worked for a Halloween soap? But was still pretty ick.
I'm from Brazil, here's a guy ("Peter Paiva" the name of his channel here on UA-cam) who works only with glycerin soap, he teaches how to make this orange and the cupcake too
It's a real orange! When they start unmolding, it has a weird appearance to the top, then all of a sudden, it has that perfect little segmented hole in the middle. It's just a brief, brief moment, but that's all they need for the sleight of hand. Watch closely at the 9:02 mark.
I'm team soap, but only because in case I am wrong, it's safer to wash yourself with an actual orange, than to take a bite of a delicious looking soap 😁😁😁
I want to see you do the orange soap. It looked suspiciously like a real orange. Also, you looked very beautiful in this video. Hair and makeup were perfect!
Yes! This is one of my favorite videos you do!! Just clicked off another video to watch you as soon as I saw the notification. Thank you so much for doing this love you Katie!
Team orange. I'm 90% sure the "soap" they take out is just them taking out the original orange from the mold. It doesn't look like it has an even coating of the white melt and pour, it looks like the original orange
I have this kind of realistic orange soap. I don't know for sure how it was done but looks like white part was brushed on top. The bottle cap plus magnet holder for soap was a kind of trend when I was a child :D
I don’t normally post about how someone looks in videos but you look really lovely today. That little quasi-Belle (the princess) hairdo is really working for you and the subtle eyeshadow is 🔥.
@@RoyaltySoaps I'm from Brazil, here's a guy ("Peter Paiva" his channel here on UA-cam) who works only with melt and pour, he teaches how to make this orange and the cupcake too
Team soap. That orange soap is using a trick that's pretty common when making PVC food models. It works, they used more soap than they needed to keep it liquid longer as they coated the inside, then dumped out the excess. The temperature difference between the mold and the soap immediately hardens a small amount of it, leaving you with a thin, semi-transparent white soap shell. Add in the orange soap, unmold, and you have a realistic pith on the outside.
That maybe the proper trick for making it, but I feel like in reality they are just using the footage of them unmolding the orange to make the mold. They cut it off after they separate the orange and the edges of the mold, then slapped the part of them popping out the orange where the soap removal should be.
Yeah, and if they'd shown it happening that way here, I'd buy it. :) Perhaps someone was familiar with the trick and took a shortcut to get what they assumed would be the same result?
but why would it collect perfectly in the cracks of the orange, which are actually peaks in the mold? to get this effect you would want to coat it (pretty thickly) with orange soap and then fill with white. coating with white first is gonna have the white soap collected in the wrong places.
5:47 i know i know, but my mom actually invented the fish soap style. the used to sell them at craft fairs before someone from a big company came by and asked how they were made, then asked them to make like thousands of them for them. obviously, my mom and Aunt couldn't do that. a month or so later they were showing up everywhere
I got my mom that avocado toast soap, and besides gushing how awesome it was and how amazing it smelled, her favorite part was the egg on top and tried to save it until the very end 😂
Team Orange! You can see when they try to squeez it out that the white on the orange is much more visible and looks kind of milky. Then a jump cut and voila... an orange. Maybe it's soap but it's not the same they pulled out of the mold. Why would you cut the video at that specific moment when you also can speed up the footage revealing that it's real.... unless you try to hide something, sneak something in.
It's totally just them removing the orange from the mold after making it since they didn't show that part after separating the mold and orange's edges.
Team orange, bc you can clearly see how they started taking out the soap from the mold and on the next frame the same soap has hole that separates all the peaces (the natural one). That was the crucial point.
Yay!!! I've been waiting for another of these hacks reviews type videos! You should also test the orange one to see if it works. You could make a video of just that and if it doesn't work, show how to make it work. Please?
I'm team SOAP, but I think they took the vegetable peeler/knife to the white layer to flake it in spots to look more like the orange pith. It didn't pour like the finished product. Lots of edits. ;) Thank you for the smiles and laughs on this dreary, cold May Monday, Katie!
The fish bag soap, do you think that'd be possible with the longer moulds? Like, fill it halfway with clear/light blue, let it harden, set fish/other ocean things in it, pour on top like normal? That way, when you cut it, it would look like little aquariums? Woof, typing all that out made me realize how detailed that is never mind lmao
That orange is definitely not real Not sure if it’s an actual orange or if they did something else But there is no way you would get that result by following the given steps
Id love to see you test the orange soap hack to see if its real! And any other hack too, its super satifsying seeing who knows what they're doing debunking stuff like this
I wanna see you try the silicone orange! 🍊 and I also agree with the video idea for historical soap making. 😊 Especially after the lily soap from Bridgerton season 2. I'd be very intrigued to see how soap like that would've been made in the 1800s regency era.
I love how they had to justify why you needed a soap flower instead of just "hey here's a pretty soap thing." Also, the bottle cap one would totally cut you.
Team I wanna see you make that soap orange lol. Also I saw someone say about old fashion soap making techniques and I would be so interested in a video like that. Loved this one!
I feel like the orange wouldn't hold up to the mold making process but... in theory it would work. The white melt and pour is just enough colorant to make it semi-opaque instead of transparent. Put in enough to roll around the mold then immediately set the mold so the majority drains out leaving just small bits inside, followed by pouring in your orange.
The magnet is ridiculous 🤣 I use a soap sleeve because I hate holding onto soap in the shower. It's a mesh bag with a drawstring. I cut a piece of my soap off and put it in there then hang it on a hook in my shower... I love it. No nasty soap dishes to wash
Katie! You reminded me of a question ive had for you forever, do you have any links to soap dishes that you recommend?? I can never find any big enough to properly hold and display your bars 😭
Not the Air Bud thumbnail pop up... loved that movie as a child and I felt like I made it up in my mind so I am grateful someone else can reference such an iconic movie
In regards to the orange soap, definitely just did the cut back to when they released the orange from the mold again as they were "revealing" the finished product.
NOT THE EARBUDS SOAP
SQUEAKY CLEAN EAR HOLES ONLY
also - the orange soap is definitely a real orange and NOT a soap

@@laurenfrances8414 She's part of where I got my inspiration for the idea.
You could get that effect by painting white over the orang but I'm calling bs on that orange pigment too
Katie: You can absolutely make your own silicone moulds and cast melt and pour in them
Safiya: *crying quietly*
Lol I remember this
This channel is notorious for having a different end product than what they would have got. They cut it cleverly.
Absolutely 😂

Milky semi opaque and very liquid soap. Coat and dump out so only a little remains. I say possible.
