  • In 2021 many people are getting into the Audio Book Narration Profession. The requirements concerning the ACX, as well as other Audio Book distributors are both extensive as well as easy to accomplish if you can grasp the basic concepts of Audio Requirements.
    Hello, my name is Dana and I have been recording the “Spoken Word” for 45 years. I have analyzed close to 10,000 Podcast files using the recommended standards set forth by the Audio Engineering Society, commonly referred to as the AES.
    I am also the owner of D & L Studio LLC. Please keep in mind that meeting the requirements concerning the ACX is more complex then Podcasting will ever be! With Podcasting, there are only recommendations. With the ACX, they are requirements. If you do not meet them, you will be rejected! I am an active Narrator with the ACX.
    Audio is fun! Mixing and mastering is really quite simple when it comes to the spoken word. STAY OFF EBAY looking for cheap mics. In the last 12 months they have been flooded with counterfeit brand name mics. It has gotten so bad that the real manufactures of these products are now listing this statement on their official sites as well!

    7:28 You actually only need to use that panner right there, but instead of doing it from the "Main LR", you click on the bus you want to pan (so "IEM 1 L" or IEM 1 R" in your case - doesn't matter which because they're linked), then use that panner in the Bus Sends section at the top of the screen. You don't need to actually pan the entire main mix.
    The panner for the main mix is on this same screen, in the "Main Out" section immediately to the left of the "Bus Sends" Section, both of which are near the top of the screen (it's the part he's talking about at 7:28).

      Very seldom is there only one way of doing anything in audio. When it comes to digital mixers, you can do the same thing from different levels/menus for that mixer.

      Glad it helped! I also do one on one training at www.danatucker.com as well as run a private FB group, X32 Rack Users.

    You have to select The LRPAN tab in Send sections to connect the bus panning to the channel strip, as you describe.
    And I dont know why you would want to do that.
    The musicians are facing oposite way from front of house. Left becomes right..

      Most people want to hear the audio in their IEMs like it comes from the FOH. This is a subject that is hard to show what is the right way, as the only right way, is how the musician want to hear what they are playing to.

    Thank you for the video. I can't help but think it might be necessary to reverse the panning on the mixbus to get the same/natural stereo field the soundman and audience is getting. I.e., if I'm facing the audience what they hear from the left side of stage (my right) would be playing in my left ear. Am I missing something?

    • @DanaTucker1
      @DanaTucker1  Рік тому

      Well, very few people on stage wants to have their IEMs setup for the Sound Engineer or the audiences perspective, it's just the opposite. Most people on stage whats to have their IEMs represent the position with the people on stage with them, as they are looking at the Sound Engineer and audience. If the drummer is behind them, then they want that centered, if the bass player is to the right of them, then they would pan the bass player into their right ear, etc. However, that choice on how it is setup, is always left to the person using the IEM.

    Hey Dana I've got a dumb question the way I have my drums set up is its running through the board and I'm listening out through my in ears out the main headphone jack on the x32 producer. I made an inear mix on a mix bus channel and ran my wireless inear system to that Also I tried my wired in ear system as well with the mix bus but it doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the headphone plug in the front of the board.my question is, is there any way to make a mixbus inear mix sound like what I'm hearing out the front headphone jack?

    • @DanaTucker1
      @DanaTucker1  2 роки тому

      You would have to mirror your board exactly, to get as close as you can to the mains, for your IEMs. In other words, your input levels for your IEMs would need to be the same as your mix for FOH including your FX returns. Another thing to consider is the difference between your headphones and earbuds, as that will affect the way you hear it as well.

    Thanks this video was super helpful. One question/issue im having after following( i think correctly) your instructions. I can only pan from the bus send part in the channel window... not using the pan above the fader (this doesnt affect the panning at all).. is this a simple fix? The muting like you are doing at 8.20ish is also not working for me if this is a linked issue. Cheers!

      @DanaTucker1  Рік тому

      Mute groups are setup from the Main tab in X32 Edit and should work without issue. I don't quite understand your question about panning.

    Thanks for this. By the way, what's playing in that intro music? Guitar or Bass? I love it.

    • @DanaTucker1
      @DanaTucker1  2 роки тому

      Both! The bass is being ducked by the kick drum by about 2dBs, as best as I can remember.

    Great detail, but who pans their entire system? To me, I’d rather unlatch the aux sends and run them post fader and give my members the ability to fully adjust their mix without the panning effecting my mains.
    That’s how I’ve run my MR18 mixer for two years now and it works well. I’m setting up a M32C and DL32 now and ran across your video on the M32 edit software.
    Unless I’m completely missing something here…..?

    • @DanaTucker1
      @DanaTucker1  2 роки тому +2

      Many people will pan their entire system. It is simply a matter of what everyone wants and as you well know, people never want the same thing and it will mostly depend on the gig. As far as running your IEMs post fader, that is about the fastest way you can endanger someones hearing and you could cause permanent hearing loss.

    Great video! Can you please tell how to move a few bus mixes so I can have my bus 2 to bus 5 and make my bass player who is in bus 5 bus 2. That way I can use bud 5 & our open bud 6 for a stereo mix? Thank you Oh I use mixing station for my XR18.

    Can my drummer who is using mix bus 3 and 4 stereo, have
    "different panning" than my vocal who is mix bus 1 and 2 stereo? or is it one pan fits all, if you pan the snare to the right, it is right for all inner ears?

    • @DanaTucker1
      @DanaTucker1  Рік тому +1

      Everything is customizable including different panning options. Remember that you have the channel panning as well as the bus panning to experiment with.

    Is it possible to receive a stereo mix in an in-ear monitor by using a single XLR out? Or using 2 XLR OUTs is the only way? Arent XLR capable of carring a stereo signal? Sorry for my ignorance.

    • @DanaTucker1
      @DanaTucker1  Рік тому +1

      No, stereo requires two inputs hence, two buses.

    Is the bank connected primarily to the scene or can you load the bank on any scene you load?

    • @DanaTucker1
      @DanaTucker1  Рік тому

      Bank files are 100% independent of any scene file. In other words, any bank file can be loaded with any scene file.

    Can i add eq to kick in my monitor? With no touching main output ex

    • @DanaTucker1
      @DanaTucker1  2 роки тому

      You can add eq from the channel strip as well as the bus. You can not add eq to a channel inside a bus without the eq affecting everything inside the bus.
