I'm gonna say it: People are overvaluing Shanks' attack against Kid because we actually saw it happen. Kaido had Kid in the exact same state, and Big Mom would, with ZERO narrative question have killed him and Law if it wasn't for the fact that Law happened to have the ONE silver bullet counter to her powers ("Silence"), gutting her biggest strength. One Piece rarely, if ever, works in simple terms of "strongest", but Kaido and Big Mom were/are world-ending threats for good reason.

It doesn't matter whether kaido fought a weaker kidd. Shanks and Blackbeard make Big Mom look like a fraud. Kaido is also a fraud, but at least he knocked out luffy so many times. Oda wanted to move on from Big Mom and thats why she got shafted
While Kaido's attack power isn't as good as Shanks's, his defense is miles ahead of both Shanks and Garp. Both Shanks and Garp have been shown to be vulnerable to non-haki attacks when not putting the guard up, while Kaido is completely immune to basic armament attacks.

Hard disagree on Kaido. He spent most of the fight messing around. Near the start of the Wano arc, he KO's Luffy in Gear 4 with a single hit. There was _nothing except Kaido's arrogance_ stopping him from ending the series early. There are several instances where Kaido decides to tank an attack that he _could_ have dodged. Even just before Luffy's Devil fruit awakens, Kaido had Luffy in the verge of death _(again)_ and was still only incapacitated by Luffy in Gear 5/"God Mode". If Kaido was anywhere near as serious as Luffy, Law, Kidd and the Samurai were, it would be an easy sweep. 🥱 Oh, and did I mention he was lifting the whole of Onigashima for most of the fight too? (Analogous to how Doflamingo was maintaining the Bird Cage _while_ doing surgery on himself after taking Law's Gamma Knife, _while_ fighting Luffy in Gear 4 - which he completely tanked the first time around). The Kaido downplay was insane.
Great points. That was Oda’s way of nerfing “The Strongest Creature”. He had to in order for Luffy to stand a chance to even get to the point of awakening. IMO, 1v1, Kaido vs Shanks would be a fight for days like Aokiji vs Akainu

His Arrogance plays into his weakness and his inevitable loss. While I do believe what you said is true, that if he went 100% from the get go everyone wouldve been gone, that doesnt change the fact that it was his OWN fault for underestimating his enemies, which is a part of his weakness, despite his overwhelming strength. Its Kaidos own fault for giving Luffy the time to grow with every fight which in turn made Luffy grow even stronger than Kaido himself. And yes, Im saying if Kaido and Luffy had a fresh fight and went all out 100% with Luffy being on Gear 5th, Kaido will lose everytime. Him lifting Onigashima has no relevance to this. Kaido never once mentioned during the fight how he wasnt at his best because he was lifting an island as an excuse. Obviously that takes stamina, but so does everything else. Kaido being in different forms takes stamina, Luffy going Gear 4 to 5th takes stamina, everything does.

Interesting argument but I think you’re selling some characters a bit short. Take Kaido for example - yes he mostly just served a narrative purpose as an obstacle for Luffy but there is genuinely a lot of evidence that he was the strongest Yonko after the Whitebeard era. There is very little evidence that anyone can compete with his durability, stamina and attack versatility. Shanks has phenomenal haki but he’s still just a human with one arm. He has no chance of replicating half of what we saw Kaido do
I mean kaido can’t do some of the shit shanks can do like cancel someone’s future sight or use conquerors haki miles away. Shanks haki seems superior to kaido but kaido does have stamina, durability, raw strength, etc.

Yeah. One thing I am sure of is that personality tends to get in the way of Yonko fights. And conveniently, this was the case in Wano. For instance Kaido hardly dodging attacks and keeping Onigashima afloat. He clearly wasn't even trying until towards the end and could still be alive. It makes me wonder why the WG wrote them off without any sort of confirmation. Same with big mum. She didn't use conquerors haki against Law and Kidd even though she can clearly use it and Haki obviously have some advantages against DFs. In worse, after team effort, she was not even knocked out, and even had time to give a speech. With their insane endurance, I would not be surprised if the come back. And with slight change of personality or goal, Oda can conveniently make them appear even stronger if he so wishes. Very clever writing IMO.
I disagree about Kaido to an extent. He’s arguably still top 3 in the verse. I think characters like Blackbeard and Akainu are still weaker than him. But they are more of a threat. Akainu isn’t going to let himself be hit multiple times or mess around during a fight. Blackbeard is a threat because of his yami yami fruit he’s going to nullify df. I hope Oda plays it well and raise the stakes of fights without necessarily making characters stronger
Yeah, I argue that Kaido could have done to Kid what Shanks did to him if he was serious from the start. Kaido likes to play around in his fights, even Big Mom called him out on it. Honestly, that Bajrang Gun could have been easily avoided too, but he decided to take it head on probably to try and prove something to Luffy...or maybe himself. Shanks would never do that, especially not when his friends are in trouble.
#Facts Many people seem to forget that Kaido packed up Luffy multiple times before his devil fruit awakened. There was nothing but Kaido's ego stopping him from killing Luffy there and then. P.S. On Blackbeard, he has the Gura Gura no Mi which is extremely destructive (even when he got it at Marineford, he had Sengoku worried that he could actually sink Marineford due to the structural damage) and can do damage to anyone who's not a Logia user (or has special devil fruit like Marco) or doesn't have Haki strong enough to resist.
If you think Blackbeard is that weak, then you're falling for Oda's trap. The fact that Blackbeard gets scared of random characters who shouldn't be able to even scratch a Yonko is a misdirection. Oda always cuts away from Blackbeard's fights after showing him floundering about for a bit, only for Blackbeard to have somehow come out on top. Add that onto the meta knowledge that Blackbeard is an end-game villain, and we can strongly assume that Blackbeard has something up his sleeve that makes him a top tier threat, way above Kaido, and probably even Shanks. Remember, Blackbeard scarred Shanks... BEFORE he got yami yami.
When kaido was first introduced the narrator said "if its one on one kaido will win thats what people say" which means that its just common peoples perspective. that sentence made it clear to me that oda was about to play with power levels again

Morj's premise is correct but he is wrong by saying we wasn't lied to, every statement about the "strongest" characters has been wrong or retconned mid story. Whitebeard wasn't the only one to equal Roger, Zebec did it, Garp did it, Shiki fought both Garp & Sengoku etc... point is even then in WB'S prime he still wasn't Roger's only equal. 2: Garp getting serious wouldn't have changed anything as all we know is Garp can do mountain level feats with CoC infused Ryou punches. So basically just adding Gear 4th dressrosa luffy or dressrosa Zoro with Conquerors haki & Ryou to the Marie Ford battle. Garp's durability is still a problem. 3: Kaido was stated to be the world's strongest creature in the Viz & most translations & Shanks, Luffy and Law have feats that can clash with Kaido on his top level. & Shanks's feat against Kidd does imply that Shanks is above Kaido's base & dragon form, however his hybrid form is iffy because Kaido didn't have many full power hits on Kidd when Kidd wasn't in his mech. Xebec died 38 years ago, hardly Roger's prime. Shiki with a fleet lost to Roger's one ship in the one fight (other than god valley) they had. Roger said if the Marines want to be serious they should send Garp or Sengoku. That could mean they're equal to Roger. That could mean they're much weaker but they're still the best chance the Marines have. That could mean they're much stronger, Roger knows this, and wants to give himself a challenge he'll likely lose because that's his character. Powerscaling is all bs at the end of the day.

Although I agree with almost everything Morj said, I personally wouldn't yet put Shanks above Kaidou even if it's seeming like he is. Shanks has a lot of showing to do before I give it to him. One-shotting Kidd is not enough. Could Shanks take on Luffy, Law, Kidd, Killer, and Zoro the way Kaidou did (toying with them)....maybe he can, but until I see something relative to that, I have Kaidou > Shanks.
If Shanks fought those guys when they were as weak as they were in Wano he definitely could. People overstimate Kaido's defense and durability and put him on a pedestal solely because of it. Roger and WB were humans like Shanks and they were the strongest ever.

Kaido was literally created to be a gatekeeper to the top tiers. He even considers himself as the gatekeeper for Joyboy in the story. It was clearly his role.
I still think Kaidou is the strongest or very close to it. We never got to see him awaken. Same goes for big mom, she never used awakening or coc coating on Kidd and law. If big mom used a named coc attack on Kidd we might have seen the same thing happen to him as what happened with shanks. I think oda just kind of wrote himself into a corner and now he’s trying to line things back up again
Kaido was already fully Awakened by the time Gear 5th Luffy defeated Kaido because his Devil Fruit is the Fish Fish Fruit, and if it was a Dragon Fruit that wasn’t fully Awakened then it’d be called the Dragon Dragon Fruit instead of the Fish Fish Fruit, so yes Shanks is definitely stronger than Kaido.

The thing is that there isn't necessarily a scale so precise. Luffy beat Katakuri on will, but they made it very clear that he was not STRONGER than Katakuri, he just refused to lose. The same applies to Kaido. You might be able to talk generally in levels, and Luffy might be around Kaido's, Shanks' level, but it's never that clear cut, and depending on certain characteristics, they might win or lose in a fight. I think there will probably be an even higher tier at the end of the story for IM (if he's a fighter), BB and Luffy only (Roger/WB prime level), but can't say for sure. No need to think too much about this. There are intricacies to each fight, and these guys are all ridiculously strong - there is room for hyping up and still not create contradictions.
Rocks does seem too be on the same level as roger and whitebeard but is slightly stronger he stated to be Rogers greatest foe and more in the road to laugh tale is stated too be rogers strongest adversary and most formidable foe which would put him above Whitebeard which would make sense with rocks being stronger than both of them tho probably slightly since Roger and whitebeard are equals.

Hard disagree on Kaido. I genuinely believe he's no doubt still top 3 (or top 1 if hes alive) in a pure 1v1. Yes, other characters might be stronger in certain aspects but Kaido's feats overall with his attack power, lethality, AP, Godly endurance, haki mastery... he just sets the bar FAR too high and I dont think thats a mistake on Oda's part. Kaido truly served his purpose as the only one capableto triggers luffy's purest and ultimate form, G5. Final saga will be exciting as hell filled with top tiers, but Kaido himself will never lose his relevance as the World's Strongest Creature and the 1v1 King because of that. Only characters that could be above him in the current era is Future Luffy, Future BB, and Imu
Is this guy joking? We have Kaido facing nine scabbards, won two fights against a Gear 4 Luffy and defeated the nine year scabbards, but yes he suddenly becomes a joke? Even with Big Mom she lost to an awakened Kidd *and* Law, before she along with Kaido was fighting Luffy, Zoro, Killer, Oda has gone out of his way for the past over half a decade to show how strong Big Mom and Kaido are. Also Garp’s galaxy impact is not anything that any top tier can do with the destructive scale their powers have. That’s not to devalue Garp at all. People have to understand that Shanks is Luffy’s major influence, and been introduced since Chapter 1, so anything he does combat is simply going to look more impressive because Oda has had this character for 25 years. That does not mean Kaido and Big Mom in comparison are a joke 😣 Garp and Dragon also will look more impressive being the father and grandfather of Luffy.
I don’t think Shanks necessarily needs to be stronger than Kaido, they serve very different narrative roles. Kaido was always meant to be a top-tier who Luffy fights when he is *not* a top-tier, while Shanks seems as though he’s meant to be a friendly rival who will make for a far more even fight.
controversial : I don't think end of story luffy will be stronger than shanks. it just wouldn't sit right. But I think that they might get a honorary fight where luffy "beats" shanks.

I find it hard to believe that that was due to strength feat alone : im sure he tied or lost a spar to WB or Garp a few times, he amassed the biggest treasure ever and was the free-est man on the ocean. I think in the current era pirate king is more "who finds the one piece" as well as, according to luffy's standards, being the free-est man on the ocean. King is also a position not necessarily a title deserved by strength, if shanks lets luffy slide but still tests him then he can still go on to be king. Pirate king also doesnt englobe people like dragon even if it was a contest of strength. This is why I think Luffy being the strongest in verse by the end of one piece isn't a guarantee, and it would still feel better if he weren't. That's like saying naruto having the catchphrase that he'll be hokage is the same as him saying he'll be strongest in the leaf. It did end up panning out that way and hokage mostly applies that you're the strongest in the village (kakashi and tsunade being clear examples of it not being the case), its just not the same thing as saying he'd be strongest leaf ninja, let alone in verse because that has no corrolation with being hokage (leaf title of strength and politics). Naruto wanted recognition, luffy wants to have the title of free-est for that reason, not due to feats of strength. Both can be achieved without winning against every big name in their field. Pirate king will be a name given by the world population, not declared by some fight ref. I'm pretty sure the moment someone finds the one piece they'll get dubbed pirate king.
Yes they serve different narrative roles because Kaidos role is already done, while Shanks isnt. Guess what? That means Shanks is Stronger than Kaido by definition. I think Luffy VS Kaido is far from pure one vs one fight. Let's not forget that Kaido also kind of "nerfed" in that battle, he battled everyone and Luffy while lifting entire island at the same time. It's what I love about one piece, the powerscaling is kinda vague, so the stake is still can be raised without having to powercreep that much.
The only fight that seriously affected Kaido besides Luffy was Yamato. The rest were like bee stings. But Kaido was carrying an island at the same time.
@@gabrielreed1096 The Scabbards fight was nothing to him. You can see he was fully recovered when Big Mom came to the roof. As for the fight with the supernova, he was barely hurt. Kidd, Killer and Law did no damage to him. They lowered Kaido's health bar by 1%. Zoro got one very minor attack in and one decent one, basically like 3% of Kaido's health bar. Luffy hit him many times but all his attacks except Red Rock were very minor. He did the same damage as Zoro, 3 or 4%. Then Yamato had a brief fight in which she managed to hit him a couple of times with good attacks. She lowered his health bar by 5%. Kaido was basically at 90% when he started his 1v1 with Luffy
I also think Oda masterfully crafted the context for the next 2 main antagonist to go beyond what Kaido was, even if he was being considered the strongest in the world at that point, because the next 2 main antagonist can break the rules of the story, first is Blackbeard who already has 2 DFs which should be impossible and could potentially have a 3rd one, but then there's IM, a figure so mysterious and that naturally wouldn't be a part of the worlds debate of who's the strongest, that again Oda can go even further with him without it feeling like an ass pull. It's also important to note that at this point in the story, the next top tiers in line aren't going to be exponentially stronger, they're closer to each other, in the same plateau, making it more believable for them to be as strong or maybe even stronger than Kaido, but it still being ambiguous, for example Luffy who won against him but in an extremely close fight, we can't say Luffy is that much stronger than Kaido if he is, and you can also tell that by their nature as characters, Shanks, Garp and maybe also Dragon might seem more impressive since they're way more serious than he was, they're not into showing off unnecessarily and when they fight, they go all out from the very start, they won't toy with their food, and give it a chance to fight back, they pulverize them before they get a chance to blink. I really think Oda has done an amazing job with this up to this point and I can't wait to see more of those characters, it feels consistent to me but more importantly, it ramps the intensity of the story without undermining what came before and ruining it.
Using the same line of reasoning thinking that Kaido and Big Mom are the most powerful and strongest Yonkos is like saying Katakuri is the strongest and most powerful first mate, and as we’ve seen in the Katakuri fight Luffy beat Katakuri in a one v one match as well as Luffy defeating Kaido in a one v one match whenever Luffy used Gear 5th to defeat Kaido, so clearly Katakuri isn’t the most strongest first mate, and Kaido isn’t the strongest Yonko alive.
I think kaido wasnt introduced as the strongest. They told us he was captured several times for example. But nobody could kill him or damage him seriously. More like strong, i think he was presented as nearly indestructible. I dont know if he is the strongest, probably not, but he Is absolutely the most durable character in the entire show (yet). Thats why i think he would win pretty much any 1v1. Not because of his power (which is also insane) but because of his ridiculous stamina and durability. I just cant see shanks or any other character tank as much as Kaido. And i think he is strong enough (if going serious since start) to make any fight a resistance fight.
Idk Morj it seems like you're downplaying Kaido just because of the way he was defeated. Just because someone is the "strongest" or they are hyped up to be strong, doesnt mean they cant be beat. Its not that weird that Kaido got beat by Bajrang Gun. Using your logic, Oda has always been misleading us with Mihawk being #1 since he's gonna be beat by Zoro.
It is also a matter of match ups. Even with how hyped Shanks is, I do not think even he could go yolo on Kaido at the end of the day. Kaido was not him alone, his forces were strong as well, and he had the number advantage too. Yes, many fodder characters, but strong ones as well. Challenging Kaido in his fortress is a feat by itself. Could Shanks have beaten Kaido? Probably. But it is not something to happen every Tuesday.

If the more mysterious a character is the more powerful he is revealed to be, Rocks D. Xebec must have been a monster as strong as all the Youkou put together since we know practically nothing about him.
I think calling Kaido the strongest is an acceptable level of misdirection. However, I think the way the narrator ranted at length about how unkillable he was and how he was unaffected by all attempts at execution puts him on too high of a pedestal for me to be comfortable with how Wano ended.
This us ultimately how I feel about Wano as a whole put succinctly by you, dear commenter. Kaido was strong, likely still is strong and I believe when it comes to straight up power and defense Kaido will be unmatched. Going up against several AdvArm and ACoc users simultaneously, with hax fruits, techniques, and abilities all while moving an island assumedly several kilometers through the AIR, WHILE DRUNK *AND* beating most of them for a while, Strongest Creature is a warranted title for him Bar none. But narratively, he's one of the weakest due to all the narrative hype that also surrounded him that never truly got realized even though the opportunity was both there and possible because Oda had a track record of doing this very thing _while also showcasing strength in fight._ I love Wano, but it could've been better and the ending wasn't it
If we're gonna look at the information we're given throughout the story there is one, singular reason that Kaido didn't kill Luffy and everyone else on Onigashima, ultimately winning. He *purposefully* tanked Luffy's ultimate attack, meaning we never truly got to see Kaido backing up the brunt of all his power with a 100% winner-mentality. Kaido lost through both arrogance and the miserable place he's at mentally, which is ultimately more interesting as it keeps his "truest" level of strenth (probably forever) a mystery, while also having his downfall not come from "this guy punches harder", but from his own flaws as a person and character.

The narrator states some facts and then changes at the end to say bet on kaido in a 1v1 that's what the people say. Which is subjective and not objective. I think that people try to overhype the narrator talking about him especially when the narrator straight up said he has lost 7 times

What I would’ve done for the ending: luffy should’ve used bajurang gun and have it not be enough to push kaido back and luffys starting to be overwhelmed so he pulls his other arm back and his bajurang gun gets smaller suddenly and appears like luffy is loosing air. Kaido shouts “what’s wrong! You’re not giving up on this fight now! Are you mugiwa… no… JOY BOY!!!!” Kaido laughs as he yells! Luffy shouts out “shut up!!! I don’t care about what you’ve got to say anymore!!! BAJURANG GATLING!!!!!” *luffy did not lose air?!? He moved half of it to his other arm!* luffy launches the most devastating barrage of punches we’ve ever seen! Kaidos appears shocked to see another huge fist coming his way!*and he knows what Gatling means!* Kaido thinks to himself as he’s being pushed back “this is it, he’s actually here?… I can’t believe it” he smiles while being destroyed… Luffys punches stop as kaido slams into the ground below onigashima. He appears incredibly worn out but it still isn’t enough! Kaido using his club to help him stand as he turns to his oni form and screams out “THIS IS IT!!! YOU’RE FINALLY HERE AREN’T YOU, COME AHEAD, JOYB-!!!” Kaido looks up as he begins to swings his club upwards but is suddenly cut off?!? “I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO SHUT UP!!! exactly. hard, hard disagree with Morj on Kaido's part. He was THE most impressive character by far still up to this point with his countless ridiculous feats. His reputation as the 1v1 King will not be tarnished just because were entering the final saga. Kaido has served his purpose as the only one that was able to make Luffy unlock the 'JoyBoy', the 'Sun God Nika' and reach his purest and highest form. Any upcoming fights he will have now will be entirely different than what he had with Kaido.
I don't expect him to be as strong as Shanks, but Dragon is the most mysterious (besides Imu) and been in the story a very long time. I'm real curious about him.
@@lennarthomas It wouldn't shock me, Dragon is the father of the protagonist after all. But I think Shanks is mostly set up as the man Luffy has to surpass to be strong enough to change the world. Shanks is the temporary successor to Roger (who couldn't act on whatever he learned at Laugh Tale). Shanks is the one who set Luffy to Pirating and said essentially, "find me when you're a great pirate." Shanks is the current main counter to Blackbeard, and will probably lose to him. Shanks seems to be mitigating the harm of the world government, where Luffy will develop the strength and following to overthrow it. Shanks represents most of what the protagonist's father might in another story. I think Dragon and the revolutionaries will mostly just be a contributing factor when it comes time to take on Im and the rulers of the world government.
WB was the strongest in the world during its prime, there's too much evidence to back it up. In his old age he was severely ill and had to be tied to medical implements. Perhaps with his health stabilized he would have remained the strongest, but obviously he couldn't fight with his body tied to those implements. For a reason Oda puts a picture saying that he is the strongest man in the world, it is never mentioned that he would be the strongest or that people usually say that he is the strongest, Oda as he gave him the title, as well as powerful characters and with knowledge is unhesitatingly called the strongest. The same goes for Mihawk, no one doubts that he is the strongest swordsman in the world, whenever Oda can refresh the fandom about Mihawk being the WSS, he gave him the title in a box as well. However, with Kaido the situation is different, people always say that he is the strongest creature, but as can be inferred these are just people's gossip. Kaido admits that he hadn't had a serious fight against someone strong for many years (a databook confirms that since Oden he hadn't had a fight against a top tier until Luffy arrived). So Kaido hasn't fought a top tier and beaten cleanly. People in the one piece world may believe that he is the strongest due to assumptions and such, but Oda never gave him the box stating that he was the strongest. The powercreep always happens and minimizes everything seen before, so characters with a lot of mystery behind them and/or a lot of relevance in the story like Im, Dragon, Akainu, Mihawk and Shanks are going to be the biggest surprises. Oda has kept them so long that his great feats of power overshadow what came before. Luffy has already surpassed Kaido although many people deny it and make the usual silly excuses, Luffy always surpasses his rivals, the narrative indicates what Kaido himself said about Joy Boy defeating him. It is also like this because the next rival is going to become more powerful and he will face a more powerful version of Luffy. Luffy will again be pushed to the maximum to defeat his new rival. Anyway, good video Morj, although the comments are being hostile, you continue with the agenda of final saga's top tiers. I would say you are correct except for one thing. It's been an emphasis through out Wano arc that Kaido respect strength, and not only his own but also other characters. Things like telling Jack he is not weak it's just Neco and Inuarashi are too strong. Trying to recruit Kidd and Luffy because of their Strength. His Crew being Ranked based of off strength. So this Kaido sees only and only 5 people strong enough to fight him which Shanks is one of them, But later on in the fight with Luffy he tells Luffy that there is no one alive that can defeat him. So he knows shanks's strength, he respects it enough to put it amongst the strongest but he doesn't think Shanks can beat him.
that list is limitted to kaido's perception, for example Garp is the only marine capable of fighting roger but he was not in the list. is this because garp is weak? no because kaidou probably never fought garp dragon, akainu and blackbeard for example never interacted with kaidou so they're not in the list, but shanks, rocks, whitebeard and roger are the only people that kaido encountered and were able to fight or surpass him. it's really interest to note that even kaido knowing big mon for years and having fought against her she was not in the list proving she was the weakest yonkou.

"The Strongest Creature" /= Strongest Man Or Character. Just like slavery in the one piece universe, Kaido's race, the Oni, are not even considered to be in the same league or race to that of man, so "Strongest Creature" as an oni/dragon absolutely makes sense
Dragon's power debut most likely will be introduced in the chapter 1100. The first appearence of dragon was in chapter 100, so it makes perfect sense for Oda to put a sneak peak of Dragon's strength on 1100.
I think Kaido's misdirection was more about context than anything else. After Wano, I'm unsure I see Onigashima being more difficult to invade than Whole Cake considering Big Mom's family has a lot more members and many of them with more hax than most of the Beast pirates. However, the fact remains that Kaido is likely still stronger than Big Mom which is what kept Wano as such a threat to many forces There's also the fact we've seen Kaido and Big Mom tank possibly more than Old Whitebeard did, which helped to keep the stakes elevated

The narrative and the powercreep indicate that the top tier that we will see use all his power during the final saga are the strongest. Luffy is stronger than Kaido, and honestly I don't care what the general fandom thinks, they just show me that they don't know powerscale. Luffy gets stronger every time and his enemies have to be proportional to the protagonist's power, so IM, Blackbeard, Akainu are stronger than Kaido. Dragon, Mihawk and Shanks are too. The final saga puts the main players in action. When they see that these characters are the strongest, I'm sure those people will hide so as not to accept that they were wrong.

That's something people forget. As amazing as Oda is at telling a more compelling and intricate shonen manga, it's STILL shonen manga at the end of the day. The main character will likely get the hot girl that he never paid attention to but had a crush on him the whole time (Hancock) like Goku and Chi Chi or Naruto and Hinata, he will end up being the best of the best by the end of the story, and the people who's powers get revealed later will likely be stronger than those who came before them. All very common shonen tropes, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Yugioh metaphor: Kaido uses beatdown, Linlin uses beatdown with cheap spell cards, Admirals use beatdown and burn, Garp uses beatdown, Sengoku uses a beatdown with a lot of chained effects, Blackbeard uses the traps and the cheapest strategies possible (maybe even just cheating), Shanks would have a beatdown deck with some strategy (Like he plays a card that boosts everyone's attack while it is on the field), Mihawk would run a FTK, Imu would run a control deck, Dragon would run a control deck, and Luffy would run a fun deck. Buggy would run a shit deck, but his opponents would get dead hands, so he would luck into a victory.
Kaido was called the strongest creature before WB died. The best timeline you can find in Ace novel, while not written by Oda, author took permission from him to write every single information and it's considered canon material by Suheisha. It's basically like Vivre Card or Road to Laugh Tale where Oda doesn't write them but the information come from Oda.
Morj shits in the Vivre Cards and SbS’s if i remember right lmao, he takes canon as only what happens in manga, which is basically the best way to go, otherwise you run into many incongruent stuff.

But that's not how Oda works. In fact not following those materials weakens his arguments even further because he refuses to consider a vast amount of information written or approved by Oda. Besides, as I mentioned, Ace novel is officially canon material. It's not upto fans to decide which one is canon and which one isn't.

Sorry but I have to disagree hard. Retcon Piece has been in full swing since the past 2 arcs. If these characters were strong as we know now, Akainu would have decimated Whitebeard when they fought 1v1. But the biggest proof are the bounties, Whitebeard and Kaido bounties were near Roger level, way bigger than Shanks and Mihawk, (I know bounties are not just strength) but these still measure these guys were comparable to what Roger did. These powerlevel retcon is just like Haki vs pre-Haki
WB health declined, Big Mom was traumatized on Whole Cake/amnesia/cut own lifespan, Shanks lost an arm, BB hides behind devil fruits, Garp and Rayleigh past their prime. The only person without a handicap was Kaido. His only flaw was his depression which led to him trying to die and tanking hits. At the moment it seems like Shanks is the true strongest for now. Until we see what Dragon does- I'm not ranking him high. It didn't take much for Sabo to be seen as 5th emperor and Dragon has never been seen that way.
Oda surpasses Toriyama, Kishimoto, and Kubo in this power-scaling aspect. Those guys kept pulling things out of nowhere to justify stronger and stronger villains, and it got real bland and run of the mill
a lot to do with Oda writings, which is holding back alot of info to be presented at later points in the story for it to count more for the moment, which at times hurts his character's battle expectations 1.seeing shanks be this amazing still reignites the idea of why did he lose his arm, or how did he get a scar from blackbeard which makes me think that blackbeard possibly has something that either disrupts future sight or he can also cancel it as well maybe. 2. For example who has conquer haki or doesn't, to me does seem like a big deal but for some reason some people believe that some characters just don't have it or if a certain number of characters have it then its not special which I do not agree with cause I do think Blackbeard has it and won't be shocked if he does. 3.When it comes to Garp I expected him to be as strong as presented in the last chapter however a lot of people arguments before that chapter about Garp, White beard and the previous generation can make you think that they were not as strong. 4.Another example: For example Roger or the admirals having battles that lasted days does hype up expectation of the length of battles between top tiers. This is why during wano I was not surprised by the length of the battle which made me think that the raid could have failed when the idea was presented because it makes sense based on multiple examples of what the top tier battles sound like....

I don't think shanks will survive if nine swords put through in his body. 4. Morj Luffy was never equal to Kaido. It was always plot armour that save his ass. Even in egghead it clearly implied that Luffy is not on the level of Kaido. 5. Oda is not idiot who doesn't know what he is doing? If he saying Kaido is the strongest creature it means something, when he said WB is the strongest man, he was the strongest man buy he was not in his best. 5. Shanks started to make his move after Kaido was defeated it clearly shows that shanks doesn't have the strength to compete one v one against Kaido. 6. Shanks scared green bull from his haki, while Kaido name was enough to scared GB. You can compare shanks, dragon, Blackbeard to Kaido and they will still fall short. Kaido has the strongest defense his offense was lacking since he was suicidal,Shanks has some of the strongest attacks but his defense is lacking cause he doesn’t care about protecting himself he cares about protecting others
I always assumed Dragon was strong. 1081 chapters in and we haven't seen him do anything, even Shanks has named attacks now. And seeing how strong Garp and Luffy are, it would be weird if he isn't insanely strong. Im, depending on their role, may very well be extremely powerful too.
This is my ranking for now.... imu > rocks > roger >= wb (prime) > dragon = shanks > garp > bb > mihawk > luffy = kaido > bigmom and for the commanders i really think katakuri (has future sight and conq haki) is stronger than king and marco but not sue about ben though...
The thing is, both kaido and bigmom didn't take the supernovas seriously, take bigmom for example first off she was nerfed by plot, she is shown to have different abilities from WCI and can use advanced conquerors coating but never used it against kidd and law. Now back to the point bigmom wasn't even trying, atleast until the final moments, bigmom took 16 named attacks non including the off screen fight from both kidd and law, 5 are which durability negating attacks from law. out of those 16 attacks she attempted to block once, dodged non, and countered attack not even once she just keeps shouting im bigmom and tanking hits like a retard but even with horrendous battle iq Kidd and law still gets pushed extreme diff and they didn't even beat her, they just practically pushed her out of the battle field. Now come back to shanks, he never underestimated kidd and attacks him with conquerors coating and not even giving kidd the chance to attack, replace shanks with kaido or bigmom in that situation they would've let kidd charge the attack before even moving.
There's no way Marco is stronger than Katakuri. We've never seen Marco do anything but be a damage sponge. Katakuris attack power and haki is leagues above Marcos as far as we've seen. At the time Luffy fought him, he was definitely the strongest first mate besides potentially Beckman.
The kaido downplay is insane tbh, I understand that we will have stronger characters showing up, i mean we already have shanks and garp going at it, which I could put shanks above and garp on the same lvl as kaido, anyways although he isn’t top 1 rn, he’s definitely still top 3, he’s had more feats than almost 99% of the verse

Fair points there was always ambiguity around Kaido being the strongest creature because it was presented as rumors. In actuality he doesn’t feel like he’s sooo much better than Big Mom. Dragon is probably the real top 1, Garp’s son, Luffy’s dad, possible logia, leader of an army that’s aimed to face off against the WG, the absolute most mysterious character w the least amount of showing (if we can even say showing at all)
I mean we also saw whitebeard and Kaito get dog piled, consistently attacked by the strongest their respective wars had and still soldiered on as if unphased. I don't get the whole they're not as strong as Shanks and Garp thing. We have only seen one attack from both and not really them taking the same damage WB and Kaido did. Garp literally sucker punched the island in the midst of a slave breakout while SWORD was causing more commotion. Now. Once we see Kuzan and the other titanic captains actually ATTACK, I don't really see a gauge for that. Same for Shanks. That final war will show more than one slice haha
I'm gonna say it: People are overvaluing Shanks' attack against Kid because we actually saw it happen. Kaido had Kid in the exact same state, and Big Mom would, with ZERO narrative question have killed him and Law if it wasn't for the fact that Law happened to have the ONE silver bullet counter to her powers ("Silence"), gutting her biggest strength. One Piece rarely, if ever, works in simple terms of "strongest", but Kaido and Big Mom were/are world-ending threats for good reason.

@@PER578 I love Big Mom, she's one of my favorite characters in all of fiction, but I think she went out like the absolute madwoman she was, and the fact that she ultimately lost because of a gimmick-based power that counters her own is appropriate. (I would be lying if I said I wasn't kind of rooting for her in that fight tho, but that's my personal bias!)

While Kaido's attack power isn't as good as Shanks's, his defense is miles ahead of both Shanks and Garp.
Both Shanks and Garp have been shown to be vulnerable to non-haki attacks when not putting the guard up, while Kaido is completely immune to basic armament attacks.

Near the start of the Wano arc, he KO's Luffy in Gear 4 with a single hit. There was _nothing except Kaido's arrogance_ stopping him from ending the series early. There are several instances where Kaido decides to tank an attack that he _could_ have dodged.
Even just before Luffy's Devil fruit awakens, Kaido had Luffy in the verge of death _(again)_ and was still only incapacitated by Luffy in Gear 5/"God Mode".
If Kaido was anywhere near as serious as Luffy, Law, Kidd and the Samurai were, it would be an easy sweep. 🥱

Him lifting Onigashima has no relevance to this. Kaido never once mentioned during the fight how he wasnt at his best because he was lifting an island as an excuse. Obviously that takes stamina, but so does everything else. Kaido being in different forms takes stamina, Luffy going Gear 4 to 5th takes stamina, everything does.

Interesting argument but I think you’re selling some characters a bit short. Take Kaido for example - yes he mostly just served a narrative purpose as an obstacle for Luffy but there is genuinely a lot of evidence that he was the strongest Yonko after the Whitebeard era. There is very little evidence that anyone can compete with his durability, stamina and attack versatility. Shanks has phenomenal haki but he’s still just a human with one arm. He has no chance of replicating half of what we saw Kaido do
I mean kaido can’t do some of the shit shanks can do like cancel someone’s future sight or use conquerors haki miles away. Shanks haki seems superior to kaido but kaido does have stamina, durability, raw strength, etc.

Yeah. One thing I am sure of is that personality tends to get in the way of Yonko fights. And conveniently, this was the case in Wano.
For instance Kaido hardly dodging attacks and keeping Onigashima afloat. He clearly wasn't even trying until towards the end and could still be alive. It makes me wonder why the WG wrote them off without any sort of confirmation.
Same with big mum. She didn't use conquerors haki against Law and Kidd even though she can clearly use it and Haki obviously have some advantages against DFs. In worse, after team effort, she was not even knocked out, and even had time to give a speech.
With their insane endurance, I would not be surprised if the come back. And with slight change of personality or goal, Oda can conveniently make them appear even stronger if he so wishes. Very clever writing IMO.

I disagree about Kaido to an extent. He’s arguably still top 3 in the verse. I think characters like Blackbeard and Akainu are still weaker than him. But they are more of a threat. Akainu isn’t going to let himself be hit multiple times or mess around during a fight. Blackbeard is a threat because of his yami yami fruit he’s going to nullify df. I hope Oda plays it well and raise the stakes of fights without necessarily making characters stronger

On Blackbeard, he has the Gura Gura no Mi which is extremely destructive (even when he got it at Marineford, he had Sengoku worried that he could actually sink Marineford due to the structural damage) and can do damage to anyone who's not a Logia user (or has special devil fruit like Marco) or doesn't have Haki strong enough to resist.
If you think Blackbeard is that weak, then you're falling for Oda's trap. The fact that Blackbeard gets scared of random characters who shouldn't be able to even scratch a Yonko is a misdirection. Oda always cuts away from Blackbeard's fights after showing him floundering about for a bit, only for Blackbeard to have somehow come out on top. Add that onto the meta knowledge that Blackbeard is an end-game villain, and we can strongly assume that Blackbeard has something up his sleeve that makes him a top tier threat, way above Kaido, and probably even Shanks. Remember, Blackbeard scarred Shanks... BEFORE he got yami yami.

Morj's premise is correct but he is wrong by saying we wasn't lied to, every statement about the "strongest" characters has been wrong or retconned mid story.
Whitebeard wasn't the only one to equal Roger, Zebec did it, Garp did it, Shiki fought both Garp & Sengoku etc... point is even then in WB'S prime he still wasn't Roger's only equal.
2: Garp getting serious wouldn't have changed anything as all we know is Garp can do mountain level feats with CoC infused Ryou punches.

One-shotting Kidd is not enough. Kaido was literally created to be a gatekeeper to the top tiers. He even considers himself as the gatekeeper for Joyboy in the story. It was clearly his role.
I still think Kaidou is the strongest or very close to it. We never got to see him awaken. Same goes for big mom, she never used awakening or coc coating on Kidd and law. If big mom used a named coc attack on Kidd we might have seen the same thing happen to him as what happened with shanks. Kaido was already fully Awakened by the time Gear 5th Luffy defeated Kaido because his Devil Fruit is the Fish Fish Fruit, and if it was a Dragon Fruit that wasn’t fully Awakened then it’d be called the Dragon Dragon Fruit instead of the Fish Fish Fruit, so yes Shanks is definitely stronger than Kaido.

The thing is that there isn't necessarily a scale so precise. Luffy beat Katakuri on will, but they made it very clear that he was not STRONGER than Katakuri, he just refused to lose. The same applies to Kaido. You might be able to talk generally in levels, and Luffy might be around Kaido's, Shanks' level, but it's never that clear cut, and depending on certain characteristics, they might win or lose in a fight. I think there will probably be an even higher tier at the end of the story for IM (if he's a fighter), BB and Luffy only (Roger/WB prime level), but can't say for sure. No need to think too much about this. There are intricacies to each fight, and these guys are all ridiculously strong - there is room for hyping up and still not create contradictions.
Rocks does seem too be on the same level as roger and whitebeard but is slightly stronger he stated to be Rogers greatest foe and more in the road to laugh tale is stated too be rogers strongest adversary and most formidable foe which would put him above Whitebeard which would make sense with rocks being stronger than both of them tho probably slightly since Roger and whitebeard are equals.

Hard disagree on Kaido. I genuinely believe he's no doubt still top 3 (or top 1 if hes alive) in a pure 1v1. Yes, other characters might be stronger in certain aspects but Kaido's feats overall with his attack power, lethality, AP, Godly endurance, haki mastery... he just sets the bar FAR too high and I dont think thats a mistake on Oda's part. Kaido truly served his purpose as the only one capableto triggers luffy's purest and ultimate form, G5. Final saga will be exciting as hell filled with top tiers, but Kaido himself will never lose his relevance as the World's Strongest Creature and the 1v1 King because of that. Only characters that could be above him in the current era is Future Luffy, Future BB, and Imu

Oda has gone out of his way for the past over half a decade to show how strong Big Mom and Kaido are.
Also Garp’s galaxy impact is not anything that any top tier can do with the destructive scale their powers have. That’s not to devalue Garp at all.
People have to understand that Shanks is Luffy’s major influence, and been introduced since Chapter 1, so anything he does combat is simply going to look more impressive because Oda has had this character for 25 years. That does not mean Kaido and Big Mom in comparison are a joke 😣

I don’t think Shanks necessarily needs to be stronger than Kaido, they serve very different narrative roles. Kaido was always meant to be a top-tier who Luffy fights when he is *not* a top-tier, while Shanks seems as though he’s meant to be a friendly rival who will make for a far more even fight.

This is why I think Luffy being the strongest in verse by the end of one piece isn't a guarantee, and it would still feel better if he weren't.
That's like saying naruto having the catchphrase that he'll be hokage is the same as him saying he'll be strongest in the leaf. It did end up panning out that way and hokage mostly applies that you're the strongest in the village (kakashi and tsunade being clear examples of it not being the case), its just not the same thing as saying he'd be strongest leaf ninja, let alone in verse because that has no corrolation with being hokage (leaf title of strength and politics).
Naruto wanted recognition, luffy wants to have the title of free-est for that reason, not due to feats of strength. Both can be achieved without winning against every big name in their field.

@@gabrielreed1096 The Scabbards fight was nothing to him. You can see he was fully recovered when Big Mom came to the roof. As for the fight with the supernova, he was barely hurt. Kidd, Killer and Law did no damage to him. They lowered Kaido's health bar by 1%. Zoro got one very minor attack in and one decent one, basically like 3% of Kaido's health bar. Luffy hit him many times but all his attacks except Red Rock were very minor. He did the same damage as Zoro, 3 or 4%. Then Yamato had a brief fight in which she managed to hit him a couple of times with good attacks. She lowered his health bar by 5%. Kaido was basically at 90% when he started his 1v1 with Luffy
I also think Oda masterfully crafted the context for the next 2 main antagonist to go beyond what Kaido was, even if he was being considered the strongest in the world at that point, because the next 2 main antagonist can break the rules of the story, first is Blackbeard who already has 2 DFs which should be impossible and could potentially have a 3rd one, but then there's IM, a figure so mysterious and that naturally wouldn't be a part of the worlds debate of who's the strongest, that again Oda can go even further with him without it feeling like an ass pull.
It's also important to note that at this point in the story, the next top tiers in line aren't going to be exponentially stronger, they're closer to each other, in the same plateau, making it more believable for them to be as strong or maybe even stronger than Kaido, but it still being ambiguous, for example Luffy who won against him but in an extremely close fight, we can't say Luffy is that much stronger than Kaido if he is, and you can also tell that by their nature as characters, Shanks, Garp and maybe also Dragon might seem more impressive since they're way more serious than he was, they're not into showing off unnecessarily and when they fight, they go all out from the very start, they won't toy with their food, and give it a chance to fight back, they pulverize them before they get a chance to blink.
I really think Oda has done an amazing job with this up to this point and I can't wait to see more of those characters, it feels consistent to me but more importantly, it ramps the intensity of the story without undermining what came before and ruining it.
I think this is the best way to view all of this. Love this perspective.

Using the same line of reasoning thinking that Kaido and Big Mom are the most powerful and strongest Yonkos is like saying Katakuri is the strongest and most powerful first mate, and as we’ve seen in the Katakuri fight Luffy beat Katakuri in a one v one match as well as Luffy defeating Kaido in a one v one match whenever Luffy used Gear 5th to defeat Kaido, so clearly Katakuri isn’t the most strongest first mate, and Kaido isn’t the strongest Yonko alive.
I think kaido wasnt introduced as the strongest. They told us he was captured several times for example. But nobody could kill him or damage him seriously. More like strong, i think he was presented as nearly indestructible. I dont know if he is the strongest, probably not, but he Is absolutely the most durable character in the entire show (yet). Thats why i think he would win pretty much any 1v1. Not because of his power (which is also insane) but because of his ridiculous stamina and durability. I just cant see shanks or any other character tank as much as Kaido. And i think he is strong enough (if going serious since start) to make any fight a resistance fight.

Kaido was not him alone, his forces were strong as well, and he had the number advantage too. Yes, many fodder characters, but strong ones as well. Challenging Kaido in his fortress is a feat by itself. Could Shanks have beaten Kaido? Probably. But it is not something to happen every Tuesday.

I think calling Kaido the strongest is an acceptable level of misdirection. However, I think the way the narrator ranted at length about how unkillable he was and how he was unaffected by all attempts at execution puts him on too high of a pedestal for me to be comfortable with how Wano ended.
This us ultimately how I feel about Wano as a whole put succinctly by you, dear commenter. Kaido was strong, likely still is strong and I believe when it comes to straight up power and defense Kaido will be unmatched. Going up against several AdvArm and ACoc users simultaneously, with hax fruits, techniques, and abilities all while moving an island assumedly several kilometers through the AIR, WHILE DRUNK *AND* beating most of them for a while,

If we're gonna look at the information we're given throughout the story there is one, singular reason that Kaido didn't kill Luffy and everyone else on Onigashima, ultimately winning. He *purposefully* tanked Luffy's ultimate attack, meaning we never truly got to see Kaido backing up the brunt of all his power with a 100% winner-mentality. Kaido lost through both arrogance and the miserable place he's at mentally, which is ultimately more interesting as it keeps his "truest" level of strenth (probably forever) a mystery, while also having his downfall not come from "this guy punches harder", but from his own flaws as a person and character.

What I would’ve done for the ending:
luffy should’ve used bajurang gun and have it not be enough to push kaido back and luffys starting to be overwhelmed so he pulls his other arm back and his bajurang gun gets smaller suddenly and appears like luffy is loosing air. Kaido shouts “what’s wrong! You’re not giving up on this fight now! Are you mugiwa… no… JOY BOY!!!!” Kaido laughs as he yells!
Luffy shouts out “shut up!!! I don’t care about what you’ve got to say anymore!!! BAJURANG GATLING!!!!!” *luffy did not lose air?!? He moved half of it to his other arm!* luffy launches the most devastating barrage of punches we’ve ever seen! Kaidos appears shocked to see another huge fist coming his way!*and he knows what Gatling means!*
Kaido thinks to himself as he’s being pushed back “this is it, he’s actually here?… I can’t believe it” he smiles while being destroyed…
Luffys punches stop as kaido slams into the ground below onigashima. He appears incredibly worn out but it still isn’t enough! Kaido using his club to help him stand as he turns to his oni form and screams out “THIS IS IT!!! YOU’RE FINALLY HERE AREN’T YOU, COME AHEAD, JOYB-!!!” Kaido looks up as he begins to swings his club upwards but is suddenly cut off?!?
“I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO SHUT UP!!! WANO WAS NEVER YOUR TERRITORY!!! IT BELONGS TO THE SAMURAI!!! IT BELONGS TO THE SHOGUN, MOMONOSUKE!!!! exactly. hard, hard disagree with Morj on Kaido's part. He was THE most impressive character by far still up to this point with his countless ridiculous feats. His reputation as the 1v1 King will not be tarnished just because were entering the final saga. Kaido has served his purpose as the only one that was able to make Luffy unlock the 'JoyBoy', the 'Sun God Nika' and reach his purest and highest form. Any upcoming fights he will have now will be entirely different than what he had with Kaido.

@@lennarthomas It wouldn't shock me, Dragon is the father of the protagonist after all. But I think Shanks is mostly set up as the man Luffy has to surpass to be strong enough to change the world. Shanks is the temporary successor to Roger (who couldn't act on whatever he learned at Laugh Tale). Shanks is the one who set Luffy to Pirating and said essentially, "find me when you're a great pirate." Shanks is the current main counter to Blackbeard, and will probably lose to him. Shanks seems to be mitigating the harm of the world government, where Luffy will develop the strength and following to overthrow it. Shanks represents most of what the protagonist's father might in another story.
I think Dragon and the revolutionaries will mostly just be a contributing factor when it comes time to take on Im and the rulers of the world government.

WB was the strongest in the world during its prime, there's too much evidence to back it up. In his old age he was severely ill and had to be tied to medical implements. Perhaps with his health stabilized he would have remained the strongest, but obviously he couldn't fight with his body tied to those implements. For a reason Oda puts a picture saying that he is the strongest man in the world, it is never mentioned that he would be the strongest or that people usually say that he is the strongest, Oda as he gave him the title, as well as powerful characters and with knowledge is unhesitatingly called the strongest.
The same goes for Mihawk, no one doubts that he is the strongest swordsman in the world, whenever Oda can refresh the fandom about Mihawk being the WSS, he gave him the title in a box as well.
However, with Kaido the situation is different, people always say that he is the strongest creature, but as can be inferred these are just people's gossip. Kaido admits that he hadn't had a serious fight against someone strong for many years (a databook confirms that since Oden he hadn't had a fight against a top tier until Luffy arrived). So Kaido hasn't fought a top tier and beaten cleanly. People in the one piece world may believe that he is the strongest due to assumptions and such, but Oda never gave him the box stating that he was the strongest.
The powercreep always happens and minimizes everything seen before, so characters with a lot of mystery behind them and/or a lot of relevance in the story like Im, Dragon, Akainu, Mihawk and Shanks are going to be the biggest surprises. Oda has kept them so long that his great feats of power overshadow what came before.
Luffy has already surpassed Kaido although many people deny it and make the usual silly excuses, Luffy always surpasses his rivals, the narrative indicates what Kaido himself said about Joy Boy defeating him. It is also like this because the next rival is going to become more powerful and he will face a more powerful version of Luffy. Luffy will again be pushed to the maximum to defeat his new rival.

I would say you are correct except for one thing. It's been an emphasis through out Wano arc that Kaido respect strength, and not only his own but also other characters.
Things like telling Jack he is not weak it's just Neco and Inuarashi are too strong. Trying to recruit Kidd and Luffy because of their Strength. His Crew being Ranked based of off strength.
So this Kaido sees only and only 5 people strong enough to fight him which Shanks is one of them, But later on in the fight with Luffy he tells Luffy that there is no one alive that can defeat him. So he knows shanks's strength, he respects it enough to put it amongst the strongest but he doesn't think Shanks can beat him.
that list is limitted to kaido's perception, for example Garp is the only marine capable of fighting roger but he was not in the list. is this because garp is weak? no because kaidou probably never fought garp
dragon, akainu and blackbeard for example never interacted with kaidou so they're not in the list, but shanks, rocks, whitebeard and roger are the only people that kaido encountered and were able to fight or surpass him.
it's really interest to note that even kaido knowing big mon for years and having fought against her she was not in the list proving she was the weakest yonkou.

"The Strongest Creature" /= Strongest Man Or Character. Just like slavery in the one piece universe, Kaido's race, the Oni, are not even considered to be in the same league or race to that of man, so "Strongest Creature" as an oni/dragon absolutely makes sense
Dragon's power debut most likely will be introduced in the chapter 1100. The first appearence of dragon was in chapter 100, so it makes perfect sense for Oda to put a sneak peak of Dragon's strength on 1100.

I think Kaido's misdirection was more about context than anything else. After Wano, I'm unsure I see Onigashima being more difficult to invade than Whole Cake considering Big Mom's family has a lot more members and many of them with more hax than most of the Beast pirates. However, the fact remains that Kaido is likely still stronger than Big Mom which is what kept Wano as such a threat to many forces
There's also the fact we've seen Kaido and Big Mom tank possibly more than Old Whitebeard did, which helped to keep the stakes elevated

The narrative and the powercreep indicate that the top tier that we will see use all his power during the final saga are the strongest. Luffy is stronger than Kaido, and honestly I don't care what the general fandom thinks, they just show me that they don't know powerscale. Luffy gets stronger every time and his enemies have to be proportional to the protagonist's power, so IM, Blackbeard, Akainu are stronger than Kaido. Dragon, Mihawk and Shanks are too. The final saga puts the main players in action. When they see that these characters are the strongest, I'm sure those people will hide so as not to accept that they were wrong.

That's something people forget. As amazing as Oda is at telling a more compelling and intricate shonen manga, it's STILL shonen manga at the end of the day. The main character will likely get the hot girl that he never paid attention to but had a crush on him the whole time (Hancock) like Goku and Chi Chi or Naruto and Hinata, he will end up being the best of the best by the end of the story, and the people who's powers get revealed later will likely be stronger than those who came before them. All very common shonen tropes, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Yugioh metaphor: Kaido uses beatdown, Linlin uses beatdown with cheap spell cards, Admirals use beatdown and burn, Garp uses beatdown, Sengoku uses a beatdown with a lot of chained effects, Blackbeard uses the traps and the cheapest strategies possible (maybe even just cheating), Shanks would have a beatdown deck with some strategy (Like he plays a card that boosts everyone's attack while it is on the field), Mihawk would run a FTK, Imu would run a control deck, Dragon would run a control deck, and Luffy would run a fun deck. Buggy would run a shit deck, but his opponents would get dead hands, so he would luck into a victory.

Kaido was called the strongest creature before WB died. The best timeline you can find in Ace novel, while not written by Oda, author took permission from him to write every single information and it's considered canon material by Suheisha. It's basically like Vivre Card or Road to Laugh Tale where Oda doesn't write them but the information come from Oda.
Morj shits in the Vivre Cards and SbS’s if i remember right lmao, he takes canon as only what happens in manga, which is basically the best way to go, otherwise you run into many incongruent stuff.

But that's not how Oda works. In fact not following those materials weakens his arguments even further because he refuses to consider a vast amount of information written or approved by Oda. If these characters were strong as we know now, Akainu would have decimated Whitebeard when they fought 1v1.
But the biggest proof are the bounties, Whitebeard and Kaido bounties were near Roger level, way bigger than Shanks and Mihawk, (I know bounties are not just strength) but these still measure these guys were comparable to what Roger did.

WB health declined, Big Mom was traumatized on Whole Cake/amnesia/cut own lifespan, Shanks lost an arm, BB hides behind devil fruits, Garp and Rayleigh past their prime.
The only person without a handicap was Kaido. His only flaw was his depression which led to him trying to die and tanking hits.

a lot to do with Oda writings, which is holding back alot of info to be presented at later points in the story for it to count more for the moment,
which at times hurts his character's battle expectations
1.seeing shanks be this amazing still reignites the idea of why did he lose his arm, or how did he get a scar from blackbeard which makes me think that blackbeard possibly has something that either disrupts future sight or he can also cancel it as well maybe.
2. For example who has conquer haki or doesn't, to me does seem like a big deal but for some reason some people believe that some characters just don't have it or if a certain number of characters have it then its not special which I do not agree with cause I do think Blackbeard has it and won't be shocked if he does.
3.When it comes to Garp I expected him to be as strong as presented in the last chapter however a lot of people arguments before that chapter about Garp, White beard and the previous generation can make you think that they were not as strong.
4.Another example:
For example Roger or the admirals having battles that lasted days does hype up expectation of the length of battles between top tiers. This is why during wano I was not surprised by the length of the battle which made me think that the raid could have failed when the idea was presented because it makes sense based on multiple examples of what the top tier battles sound like....

2. Shanks one shot kidd and now he considered stronger than Kaido. While nobody said that Kaido is stronger than Roger 20 years ago he did something that Roger failed. Oldgen swollower will never use their brain and put Roger on a never reaching pedestrian. While it is so many times implied that Roger was not the strongest Pirate but the greatest because he achieved something that nobody have ever achieved. And WB was the strongest man when Roger was alive.
3. Kaido fight more than 15 people and all nine scabbard used cheap shot on him and he smashed all of them. I don't think shanks will survive if nine swords put through in his body.
4. Morj Luffy was never equal to Kaido. It was always plot armour that save his ass. Even in egghead it clearly implied that Luffy is not on the level of Kaido.
5. Oda is not idiot who doesn't know what he is doing? If he saying Kaido is the strongest creature it means something, when he said WB is the strongest man, he was the strongest man buy he was not in his best.

I always assumed Dragon was strong. 1081 chapters in and we haven't seen him do anything, even Shanks has named attacks now. And seeing how strong Garp and Luffy are, it would be weird if he isn't insanely strong. Im, depending on their role, may very well be extremely powerful too.
This is my ranking for now....
imu > rocks > roger >= wb (prime) > dragon = shanks > garp > bb > mihawk > luffy = kaido > bigmom
and for the commanders i really think katakuri (has future sight and conq haki) is stronger than king and marco but not sue about ben though...
The thing is, both kaido and bigmom didn't take the supernovas seriously, take bigmom for example first off she was nerfed by plot, she is shown to have different abilities from WCI and can use advanced conquerors coating but never used it against kidd and law. Now back to the point bigmom wasn't even trying, atleast until the final moments, bigmom took 16 named attacks non including the off screen fight from both kidd and law, 5 are which durability negating attacks from law. out of those 16 attacks she attempted to block once, dodged non, and countered attack not even once she just keeps shouting im bigmom and tanking hits like a retard but even with horrendous battle iq Kidd and law still gets pushed extreme diff and they didn't even beat her, they just practically pushed her out of the battle field. Now come back to shanks, he never underestimated kidd and attacks him with conquerors coating and not even giving kidd the chance to attack, replace shanks with kaido or bigmom in that situation they would've let kidd charge the attack before even moving.

There's no way Marco is stronger than Katakuri. We've never seen Marco do anything but be a damage sponge. Katakuris attack power and haki is leagues above Marcos as far as we've seen. At the time Luffy fought him, he was definitely the strongest first mate besides potentially Beckman.

The kaido downplay is insane tbh, I understand that we will have stronger characters showing up, i mean we already have shanks and garp going at it, which I could put shanks above and garp on the same lvl as kaido, anyways although he isn’t top 1 rn, he’s definitely still top 3, he’s had more feats than almost 99% of the verse
If you compare S hawk attack to galaxy impact. Galaxy impacts look like a joke. and one piece fans are amazing if any new character show some feat the put him no.1 even though those feats are nothing compared to What Kaido and big mom can do!!
Idk. Saying 90% of the kaido fight was Luffy feels like an overexaggeration. Id say it was more like 70%
Fair points there was always ambiguity around Kaido being the strongest creature because it was presented as rumors. In actuality he doesn’t feel like he’s sooo much better than Big Mom. Dragon is probably the real top 1, Garp’s son, Luffy’s dad, possible logia, leader of an army that’s aimed to face off against the WG, the absolute most mysterious character w the least amount of showing (if we can even say showing at all)

I mean we also saw whitebeard and Kaito get dog piled, consistently attacked by the strongest their respective wars had and still soldiered on as if unphased. I don't get the whole they're not as strong as Shanks and Garp thing. We have only seen one attack from both and not really them taking the same damage WB and Kaido did.
Garp literally sucker punched the island in the midst of a slave breakout while SWORD was causing more commotion. Now. Once we see Kuzan and the other titanic captains actually ATTACK, I don't really see a gauge for that. Same for Shanks. That final war will show more than one slice haha
