Nami getting betrayed by Arlong and Nezumi is the perfect encapsulation of how obeying will not work out for you. And all of these people WERE motivated by their love for others, from Boodle and Kohza's love for the people of their homes, Wyper's love for his ancestors, Nami's love for Nojiko and Bellemere, and even Koby's desire to be a marine to help the people of the world. Kuma‘s flashback was absolutely phenomenal, my favourite part of the arc and the highlight was Chapter 1102 “The Life of Kuma“. Genuinely had tears in my eyes when I read the page of Kuma running through his life. One of the best backstories in all of One Piece.
I love that chapter so much but it was so hard to read it. The day I read it was the day of my Grandfather's funeral. I remember one of my uncles giving the Eulogy and described my Grandfather having "Selfless Hands" and would always use them for other. When reading the chapter afterwards I realized Kuma was also a man with Selfless Hands. From using those hands to take other people's pain away and put it on himself, to saving the Strawhats on Sabaody. Fiction and reality just blurred for me that afternoon cause I lost someone dear to me at the same time as the characters losing someone dear to them.
Sick Mr Morj!! This conclusion encapsulates eggheads surface and peels back gOda’s layers. One thing need to be settled once and for all- WHO FED LUFFY?! 😂
Egghead is easily the best post timeskip arc. The "who is the traitor" plotline being underwhelming is my only major critique. Egghead doesnt have glaring issues like the rest of the post timeskip arcs, it brought interesting lore and revelations, one of the best flashbacks, some of the biggest and some of the most hype fights we've ever seen
Absolutely, my one thing about the arc is that the strawhats really didn’t have much of a storyline, which has been kind of a constant in recent arcs. I really hope the straw hats and especially Usopp will be a major focus in Elbaf.
It's the second best arc in my opinion. Zou still in the first place for me. Egghead was nice, but my main critique is the finale (aka everything that happened after the Kuma flashback). It was dragged out (20 chapters that could've easily been 10 chapters with proper pacing) and I never even once felt any kind of "threat" despite there being so many (dangerous) villains present. The outcome also supports this, since once again not a single death or even consequence (!) occured. Vegapunk and his satelites were the only ones "dying" and now we know even they aren't actually dead and it was all according to his plan anyway. Such a conclusion without any kind of major character consequences just shouldn't happen imho, even knowing that this is Oda/OP we're talking about.
The Strawhats amounted to absolutely fuck all this arc again and it's getting REALLY grating. If your name isn't Zoro or Sanji you don't mean shit at this point.
I mean aokiji basically abided by obedience again by “killing” garp. We don’t know if he’s dead but oda drew it in a way where he could be as he had Garp smiling as he froze. The hallmark of a D dying. -oda being the master of leaving threads open just enough that he can re open them later or declare them closed
Splendid work, and I would like to offer some different perspectives to complement this analysis. The passing of Vegapunk seems to have been intentionally foreshadowed from the beginning, especially to emphasize his unique perspective on "death." During Vegapunk's first introduction, he repeatedly referred to himself as "しがない天才科学者," which humbly means "just a mediocre genius scientist." However, knowing Oda's penchant for wordplay, "しがない(shi ga nai, roughly means mediocre)" also reads the same as "死がない," meaning "won't die." This ties back to the moment when Marcus Mars first encountered Punk Records and asked *_"What is death, and where does thought exist?"_* If we look back, Egghead Island is arguably one of the most philosophically rich chapters in One Piece, exploring several difficult questions: 1. *_The Definition of Death_* : Examined through the experiences of Kuma, the Five Elders, and Vegapunk. 2. *_Life's Purpose Amid Suffering_* : Explored through the struggles of Kuma and Bonney. 3. *_The Power of Thought_* : Illustrated by Punk Records and Nika's will. 4. *_Desires as the Source of All Things_* : Echoed in the title of Chapter 1069 and the origins of Devil Fruits, touching on themes of idealism. 5. *_What defines a person without a heart?_* : A cyborg without memories? A clone without purpose? Or a soldier who breaks his heart because he has to follow orders? Using a scientist who should be a "materialist" to bring out this kind of "idealism" creates an interesting sense of conflict. What's even more interesting is that if you look closer, you'll notice that Oda is trying to blur the line between "advanced science" and "divinity". This forces readers to rethink the "definition of a god" So, what did Vegapunk achieve? 1. The creation of the Seraphim. 2. Achieving a form of immortality through Punk Records. 3. Creating the sky via the Island cloud machine. 4. Creating his satellites, mirroring divine incarnations. 5. The ability to erase memories. *_If this isn't godlike, what is it?_* And the parallels with Imu are now apparent. Then, Oda brings in the Five Elders, who bear the "name of gods" but have done little other than regenerating themselves, and has them wreak havoc on this "island of science". This kind of arrangement of blurring and colliding definitions once again perfectly showcases the central theme of One Piece: *_The clash of ideologies._* Egghead Island is filled with fascinating contrasts and details that align with these central themes. Can't wait for you guys to discover more! ================================================= Afterword: Serious themes really don't have to be drawn seriously to be expressed. You can tell if the content is substantial by reading it carefully. On the other hand, some works might seem very serious on the surface, but really the content does not meet what it's supposed to be or is just plain inconsistent.
It would be interesting if despite his actions Kizaru remained conscious after the haki knot not because he was strong enough to not get knocked out but because that haki was discerning friend from phone and decided he was friend. Another layer of acceptance towards Kizaru that he would have responded to with ignoring his thoughts feelings and desires.
I didn't even consider the juxtaposition of kuzan in Ohara and Kizaru in Egghead. That's very interesting. Oda do like circles tying together from past to present
Oda’s been cooking up nothing but greatness in the Final Saga. He’s finally been able to portray and show us all the mysteries of this world, we’ve officially reached the greatest part of the story since Marineford. What a ride Egghead arc has been, can’t wait for Elbaf.
What i love about Kizaru much more is that i think its not really his "justice" or "morality" that he has stepped on, it's his love for his bestfriend. If Vegapunk was on the side of CD, im sure he would roll with genocide. He will always be a cog in the machine, his unclear justice, making him much more simple and realistic some would say. I couldn't say the same for Kuzan, sure he killed his friend Saul but what really jaded him is the opression of WG and Navy 13:15 Cog in the Wheel vs Greater Good of the World
Really well-written video. Love it and love the connections to the themes and broader story. It’s interesting to me what that might mean for Luffy. He is a selfish character, but he has grown to understand others and be selfless. There are times where he didn’t want to be a hero, but post-timeskip he has been nothing but a hero to each island. He is protecting entire countries. To him being king of pirates means absolute freedom, but is that selfish? Maybe the dream we haven’t heard from him is about how he is going to make the King of the Pirates a selfless goal.
A good Morj video is really just on another level from other OP creators. This was really good. I feel I could even show this to a friend who isn't into One Piece and they would be impressed by what they're hearing 🤣🤣
Great analysis Morj. My first arc as a One Piece fan fully read week to week, and it was great to see the themes come together piece by piece like this
Kuma and his relationship with Bonney were definitely what I loved most about Egghead. I don't usually like saint like characters, but his love and steadfastness won me over. I became invested in this arc because of him.
This is why I love Gear 5 so much. It has perfectly tied everything back to Luffy, and what he will accomplish at the end of the series; the fact that people theorised it was Kizaru feeding Luffy is enough proof of this. He's going to free EVERYONE.
Absolutely splendid, beautiful work! You have once again reminded me why you are positively the best analyst of this story. Beautiful stuff Morj! (Framing the thematic message of Egghead Island as an answer to the question, What does it mean to be human? is great stuff. Really jibed well with my philosophical inclinations as of recently, reading Heidegger and whatnot. . .)
I feel like we need to give Egghead 1 more chapter to wrap up Bonney and Kuma the way Vegapunk and Kisaru have been before I can officially say the arc is concluded. I know we have a break period, but it just doesn't feel over without that.
i never comment on videos but dude this is the best vid youve made to date. reflecting on egghead and all the moments you called back to brought me to tears! such emotional storytelling and you tied it all together so well!
As always, a great video, Morj! Every time I watch your analyses, I become aware of aspects in Oda's storytelling that I hadn't thought of or had forgotten because when reading the manga weekly, you sometimes lose sight of the bigger picture. I especially liked the red thread between the first chapter of Egghead with Luffy's true dream and the essence of what dreams are, which was a theme throughout the entire arc. Keep up the good work! (Ps.: NOW I'm really curious about the Wano analysis. With knowing and agreeing how you feel about the arc, it'll be interesting to see how you will talk about it's themes and where it may failed them)
I think another theme of this arc is that staying complicit in the face of oppression will eventually lead to your downfall due to the hands of the oppressor. We see the citizens of Lulusia who didn’t get killed by the government were the ones who rebelled, Vegapunk was complicit until the government came after him and died, Kizaru stayed complicit and had to kill his best friend, etc.
Egghead was a masterpiece. I teared up a couple times watching this. I’ve watched one piece since it aired, Oda and one piece content creators are real world heroes. One piece means a lot to me personally, and I truly hope the series has a sequel/prequel spin-off.
Another great detail to support your Borsalino/Kuzan comparison is the way Sentoumaru left Egghead. Rowing alone in a small dingy, just like Robin back on Ohara.
Really. Amazing way of giving a point about real life that is same same as one piece. Yes. We are getting in a place that in real life is happening now days. It may last for years and we suffer more for years to come before the change happens. In different angles of pionts. Thank you.
I believe the void century was a battle for survival of the flood. I bet you Imu has some type of spaceship with limit space that he leveraged to get the 20 kingdoms to join. Everybody else was left to fend for themselves; the Fishman, minks, etc. Joyboy probably had a plan to save everyone but he failed to make it work somehow. That was the promise he broke.
Egghead has been one of the best post-timeskip arcs in One Piece. Whether it was setting up the final saga, bringing big character development to characters like Kizaru or Buggy, or that phenomenal backstory involving Kuma, it was a sight to behold.
Beautiful analysis, Morj It's also impotant to point out how the narrative punishes selfish achivements, with the likes of Kid and Law. In Kid's case is obvious, the way he trys to achive his dreams is by hurting others. So the narrative places the ultimate bit down on him, the elimination of all ways he could ever keep trying to achive his dreams the way he did. (He could be back, but he needs to change) And then is Law, also faced with the same type of challenge as Kidd, but the way he fought through that challenge is by relying in not only him but his crew. And not only that, because of the connection he build with Luffy and his crew, Bepo got the drugs needed to activate his Sulong form, which ended up saving his life.

No one can convince me Sanji isn't being set up for more plot. Power of love, his mutation plotline, perserving his humanity, where his flames come from and his mysterious dream
Bro is in denial sanji already reached his peak.. and sanji final opponent will prob be god knight number 8
@@estebanbr7596 I'm not a powerscaler I'm talking specially about the clues Oda has left about Sanji mutating, example his change of attitude when he flipped his eyebrow with s-shark. Also his correlation with the power of love and everything else I said
@@estebanbr7596 also, to me if Zoro's writing for his dream is about fighting to get stronger. Sanji's writing for his dream is about fighting to preserve his humanity and free will to get to see the all blue, that's why his mutation plot is still going in the final saga
I wonder if something will happen to Sanji that will make Zoro save him. Related to the death pact maybe?
Aint no way my man put EggHead before Wano analysis 💀
One thing need to be settled once and for all-
WHO FED LUFFY?!
Decent pacing too
It's the second best arc in my opinion.
Personally I prefer WCI. While egghead is phenomenal, I wasn't able to resonate with the emotional hooks of this arc nearly as much as I was for WCI.
Lorj dropping the Egghead arc analayis before the Wano analysis is crazy work
I mean aokiji basically abided by obedience again by “killing” garp.
The passing of Vegapunk seems to have been intentionally foreshadowed from the beginning, especially to emphasize his unique perspective on "death."
During Vegapunk's first introduction, he repeatedly referred to himself as "しがない天才科学者," which humbly means "just a mediocre genius scientist." However, knowing Oda's penchant for wordplay, "しがない(shi ga nai, roughly means mediocre)" also reads the same as "死がない," meaning "won't die."
This ties back to the moment when Marcus Mars first encountered Punk Records and asked
*_"What is death, and where does thought exist?"_*
If we look back, Egghead Island is arguably one of the most philosophically rich chapters in One Piece, exploring several difficult questions:
This forces readers to rethink the "definition of a god"
So, what did Vegapunk achieve?
1. The creation of the Seraphim.
2. Achieving a form of immortality through Punk Records.
3. Creating the sky via the Island cloud machine.
4. Creating his satellites, mirroring divine incarnations.
5. The ability to erase memories.
*_If this isn't godlike, what is it?_*
And the parallels with Imu are now apparent.
Then, Oda brings in the Five Elders, who bear the "name of gods" but have done little other than regenerating themselves, and has them wreak havoc on this "island of science".
This kind of arrangement of blurring and colliding definitions once again perfectly showcases the central theme of One Piece:
*_The clash of ideologies._*
Egghead Island is filled with fascinating contrasts and details that align with these central themes.
Can't wait for you guys to discover more!

Afterword:
Serious themes really don't have to be drawn seriously to be expressed.
You can tell if the content is substantial by reading it carefully.
On the other hand, some works might seem very serious on the surface, but really the content does not meet what it's supposed to be or is just plain inconsistent.
17:26 BROOOOOO!!! This is the most beautiful section of this entire video. Holy Shit morj.
" It is those who refuses to be oppressed , who will shape the world of tomorrow "
So relevant right now in the real world!! I love one piece
Oda’s been cooking up nothing but greatness in the Final Saga. He’s finally been able to portray and show us all the mysteries of this world, we’ve officially reached the greatest part of the story since Marineford. What a ride Egghead arc has been, can’t wait for Elbaf.
Funny how you did not even touch on Sabo and the assassination of King Cobra, but this analysis is very well written already. Good job, Morj!
Morj at his peak with this kind of content, like his old arc overviews, amazing stuff.
I couldn't say the same for Kuzan, sure he killed his friend Saul but what really jaded him is the opression of WG and Navy
13:15 Cog in the Wheel vs Greater Good of the World
Really well-written video. Maybe the dream we haven’t heard from him is about how he is going to make the King of the Pirates a selfless goal.
my favourite type of videos. it will be great if he can make more analysis videos on stuff. nobody understands the story on this level.
A good Morj video is really just on another level from other OP creators. This was really good. I feel I could even show this to a friend who isn't into One Piece and they would be impressed by what they're hearing 🤣🤣
Morj I graduated high school and got a college degree in the time I've been waiting for that Wano analysis vid
One piece is about power of love?
Free Sanji gas from morj
Aokij's turn took 20 years, a glacial pace; will Kizaru's happen like a flash?
Mr. Morj really excels in this type of videos. His analyses are the best.
One Piece is not only my favorite manga, it's also my favorite work of fiction.
Egghead hit like a hammer.
Kudos to making a breakdown this comprehensive right after the arc finishes!
Great video Mr Morj
Great analysis Morj. My first arc as a One Piece fan fully read week to week, and it was great to see the themes come together piece by piece like this
*Typical comment about no wano analysis to get likes*
based Doc
Liked
The fucking nerves of this mf releasing the Egghead analysis before the Wano one LMAO
Kuma and his relationship with Bonney were definitely what I loved most about Egghead. I don't usually like saint like characters, but his love and steadfastness won me over. I became invested in this arc because of him.
Morj understands this story better than Oda himself at this point
Sheesh lol
*and so Roger laughed, because he was too early for the Wano Analysis *
I can’t wait til Saturn dies in the anime I’m gonna watch that shit on replay for an hour
This is why I love Gear 5 so much. It has perfectly tied everything back to Luffy, and what he will accomplish at the end of the series; the fact that people theorised it was Kizaru feeding Luffy is enough proof of this. He's going to free EVERYONE.
The Gorōsei acted just like Doflamingo they don't care unless there own power is threatened then they go overboard
I think it’s fair to assume that Morj hates wano😂
i never comment on videos but dude this is the best vid youve made to date. reflecting on egghead and all the moments you called back to brought me to tears! such emotional storytelling and you tied it all together so well!
Morj dropping absolute heat, love to see it
Great analysis video Morj🙏🏾🤍💪🏾
As always, a great video, Morj! Every time I watch your analyses, I become aware of aspects in Oda's storytelling that I hadn't thought of or had forgotten because when reading the manga weekly, you sometimes lose sight of the bigger picture. I especially liked the red thread between the first chapter of Egghead with Luffy's true dream and the essence of what dreams are, which was a theme throughout the entire arc. Keep up the good work! (Ps.: NOW I'm really curious about the Wano analysis. With knowing and agreeing how you feel about the arc, it'll be interesting to see how you will talk about it's themes and where it may failed them)
Great video Morj, thank you for making it!
Holy shit I just realized why Kizaru asked Saturn about whether he met Vegapunk before. Kizaru legit wanted to let him escape after all!
Sentomaru isn't the first active marine to rebel, Saul was an active vice admiral when he freed Olvia.
Then one could argue Garp did the same by letting luffy go in water7
Morj proving why he once again is an S-Ranked content creator of one piece lore analysis.
Another great detail to support your Borsalino/Kuzan comparison is the way Sentoumaru left Egghead. Rowing alone in a small dingy, just like Robin back on Ohara.
Holy shit what a video, absolutely amazing work as always
Tears in my eyes, another Morj banger like the good old analysis videos back in the day
Oh man, this was a great recap video. I started to tear up once you transitioned to Kuma’s thematic role in this arc.
Daniel Greene mentioned this video let's gooooooo
That was just right. Spot on and well explained. Sublime!
Killin it as always Morj
"Next july is the elbaf analysis, wano should be coming right after that"
Bonney's fruit having the power of dreams is something beautiful
Egghead has been one of the best post-timeskip arcs in One Piece. Whether it was setting up the final saga, bringing big character development to characters like Kizaru or Buggy, or that phenomenal backstory involving Kuma, it was a sight to behold.
5:48 hi my name is Monkey D Garp, nice to meet you 👋
Thanks Morj great video I really loved Franky's development this arc specially when
I'm so happy One Piece exist❤
Beautiful analysis, Morj
It's also impotant to point out how the narrative punishes selfish achivements, with the likes of Kid and Law.
In Kid's case is obvious, the way he trys to achive his dreams is by hurting others. So the narrative places the ultimate bit down on him, the elimination of all ways he could ever keep trying to achive his dreams the way he did. (He could be back, but he needs to change)
And then is Law, also faced with the same type of challenge as Kidd, but the way he fought through that challenge is by relying in not only him but his crew. And not only that, because of the connection he build with Luffy and his crew, Bepo got the drugs needed to activate his Sulong form, which ended up saving his life.
The OG analysis videos are back 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Solid review of the arc, I especially dig the parts about the 3 admirals
Morj is just excited a raid finally failed. (The marine raid on egghead)
The combat power systems of Haki and Devil Fruits befit the theme of pursuing your dreams no matter the odds.
