This is for the 2 wheel drive. Good luck getting the Pittman arm nut off on a 4 wheel drive. There's a crossmember in the way.
To replace the steering box on a 4x4 separate the Pittman arm from the steering center link, remove the fluid lines (keep track of which goes where), remove the steering shaft bolt, remove the 3 bolts holding the steering gear to the frame, then either use an impact wrench to get the Pittman arm nut off or put the steering gear in a vice clamped on the Pittman arm then remove the nut. Note: during reassembly DO NOT use the stops of the Pittman arm rotation to torque the Pittman arm nut. Clamp the arm, then torque. Of course, be sure to clock the Pittman arm properly on the gear or you'll be removing it twice.
If you're replacing the gear and the Pittman arm has to come out safe money is on just replacing the Pittman arm.
Assembly is the reverse of removal. Removing the fan shrouds may make this job easier.

Hey, seeing as you know what you're doing when it comes to a 4x4 do you happen to know what brand of gearbox I should use for my Tahoe? It's 4x4 and I have no idea what kind to use or even a good place to get one. I have searched and they all seem the same. Any suggestions?

I believe if the trucks tires are on the ground you can torque the bolt on the pitman arm , well it worked that way taking it of without ruining the spines & grooves.

it's a pretty simple job. I did this on my 2003 Chevy Tahoe z71.
hardest part was getting Pittman arm off with puller. I recommend removing all 3 mounting through bolts first along with 2 pump lines, that way you can menouver gear box around to put puller on.
Installing new box takes like 10 minutes
putting new gear box on is

That's true, but my point is both 1 5/16" AND 34mm will work. See the math in my last comment. Also 34mm is much easier to find at an auto parts store than a 15/16". Just giving others here options and the understanding that 34mm and 1 5/16 are close enough that either can be used. That wasn't clear in your comment.

After having spent the majority of my adult life in the South and on the West Coast, I can honestly say that getting out of Michigan was the best choice I ever made in life. Michigan is nothing but diminishing returns and constantly lowering standards.
At least, as of the date of this post, you're no longer the State with the most expensive auto insurance in the nation. Still worst used vehicle market, though. Michigan folk be like "What's a cab corner? I've never actually seen one in real life!"
