My father was diagnosed with early stage skin cancer at 24 before I was born. He was able to seek treatment and was in remission for another almost 20 years. His cancer came back as melanoma when I was around 12, and within two years spread to his brain and killed him. I can’t describe the helplessness I felt as I slowly watched my father deteriorate. Rest in peace Dad. I miss you.

In 1980 I had developed a black mole on my stomach that was growing and the psychiatrist I was working for said I had melanoma and needed biopsy. The diagnosis was malignant melanoma on my abdominal wall. Doctor told me it was was very unlikely I would survive it and as I drove home alone my body shook uncontrollably. I was 22 years old. I remained home from work for 3 days and just lay in bed visualizing non stop the poison cancer leaving my body flushing out and following my surgery the surgeon told me he removed all the cancer and I didn’t even need radiation. I have a very deep large square around abdomen and every day I’m grateful to be here. Since the melanoma, I have had 7 skin cancer surgeries basel cell and squamous and had another biopsy today on a new red spot of 5 months. I was the kid at the beach applying all baby oil and no sunscreen, piles of blisters from sunburn etc and this is the consequence. I hope everyone reading this will get to dermatologist annually for a full check (earlier If red spot that doesn’t heal in months, or new mole growth) and wear a hat and sunscreen. Keep safe 🙏

My mom had breast cancer and she told me she noticed a small lump under the right side of her breasts. So we went to the doctor, who told us she had breast cancer, and it was just at its beginning. My mom got it removed, but they also had to remove her breasts entirely, and also the lymph node in the right armpit. The surgeon ended up accidentally shifting the lymph nodes on the left side so now my mom doesn't sweat in that area anymore. but more important, the cancer is gone

My dad died in 2015 from metastatic melanoma to the brain. In 2010 he had a lesion on his scalp removed and for 5 years we thought everything was fine. Then he suddenly started to deteriorate and was dead within 3 weeks of us noticing his outward symptoms. The day he died, they did another scan. I refused to leave and watched the scan from the control room. As a medical professional, I knew what I was looking at... I've seen head traumas of multiple varieties, but I have yet to see a scan as nasty looking as his. I still remember it. Those 3 weeks were horrific.

Seven years back when my wife had her first pregnancy, she suffered a miscarriage and also a polyp growth. Her biopsy was misdiagnosed as cancerous. I can't describe the horror i went through. I didn't tell her but consulted several doctors. While describing this to my childhood friend, i broke down. He also consulted several doctors in his city. After a few horrendous days, we found out that it was not a cancer.

I don't know how this has happened, they were supposed to be keeping him under close watch.
I don't know how I'm going to get through this and come out the other side but he wants me to "be happy."

I remember my favorite aunt wasn’t feeling the best. So she went to the Dr’s to have a check up. They found something strange in her abdomen. This was in January. She continued to deteriorate until they finally told her the problem in early July: she had pancreatic cancer,,, and she passed on July 29. It was so so sad, and I still miss her so so much. RIP Auntie, I love you so much, and miss you terribly.....

My father's prostate cancer was only discovered after his doctor looked at his back when he was taking 12 paracetamol a day for the pain. It was not a straight line anymore because the cancer from his prostate had metastasized to his bones and surrounded his entire spine. Immediate radiation treatment prevented complete lower-body paralysis, but there was nothing that could be done to achieve anything close to a cure. He died 2 years later after no longer being able to even consume liquid food.

I have fair skin and have a ton of moles all over. I go to the dermatologist annually to have a head to toe check up on all my moles. They tell me which moles they want to remove and i let them. Make sure to get an annual check up with your dermatologist and annual blood work with primary care.

For anyone wondering, this is most definitely not purely from sun exposure, and is probably a result of years of poor diet and other bodily abuse. Sun just tends to help things along quite a bit. I should add a lot of farmers are exposed to cancer causing pesticides like glyphosate on an almost daily basis, so that’s probably the main cause.

you can't really make that claim without knowing exactly how the guy ate, drank, treated his body etc. All we know is he spent 3 months of the year sunburnt, and even 1 or 2 sunburns can give you skin cancer if you're unlucky, so I would have to disagree and say that UV exposure is likely the primary cause in this case

I agree. My dad, several uncles, and friends were all cancer victims who didn't live. My dad got it 2 times. First time they removed half a lung to get rid of it. Though, we were poor and had no insurance, so they wouldn't do CAT scans or anything every month or so like they should afterwards. This led to a year later where he found he had cancer all through his body as it had traveled through his lymph system to the stomach, liver, and other places. He died 9 months later. Movies don't show how serious cancer is! They just show it like it's something painful and that's all, before death. What i saw was my dad turn from a loving, caring dad into a man who I didn't recognize at all. He forgot about me, and would get very violent (but was too weak from the cancer to actually hurt my mother or I). His memory was nearly gone completely. His appearance changed so much that he didn't resemble himself, with a bloated face, skin that tore as easily as wet paper, and so on. It's a terrible thing. What caused his cancer was smoking and exposure to asbestos for years.

You need uvA to make vitD and that is only available during the mid day. You can take supplements but then you can get to much. The tan works like sunscreen I heard it can be spf 15 but I have not looked into it.
