Great brief overviews of these various groups in Judea and Samaria at the time of Christ. To pick a nit, at 00:55 into the video, Stephen confuses "begs the question" with "raises the question." These phrases are not synonymous. "Begging the question" is a logical fallacy of arguing in a circle or assuming what you are trying to prove.
You know, as we read the scriptures, we come across terms that refer to societies, groups, geographical regions, and so forth. Very often we can just pass over them, as I did. Now we have this technology where by a few clicks of the mouse and a copy and paste we can instantaneously learn what secular sources describe as well as much historical information. I have been doing this in my studies and that has landed me on your video when I decided to look up the Herodians. Your video provided not only insight into the Herodians but their position amongst other important socio-political groups of the time. It gave me a perspective on their belief systems and why they opposed Jesus, Each one had a somewhat different perspective, but it all comes down to this: They all opposed Jesus. Now to make application of what I learned, Jesus demonstrated to me the power of God in his ministry as I was able to see the sheer social and political force behind a unification of these 5 entities opposing him. From the world's perspective He was a simple carpenter without much in the way of wealth, political, or social stature. He went out and gathered to himself a rag-tag group of fishermen, a tax collector, a harlot, and other people of diverse backgrounds and put together a social structure based upon the Word of God that overcame that opposition like a hot knife through butter and continues to have a significant influence in the world today, So what I learned is that the validity of the world's branding is quite low and severely paled in comparison to the meek yet powerful ministry of God.
Great piece of detailed information God bless you so much These are really needed in order to understand the Biblical culture and context Thanks so much
Studying the word of God has made me a lover of history. Who would’ve thought? Great content sir. I need some clarity on your statement “ The Pharisees hated Jesus because he rejected the oral law”. Thanks in advance.
The Pharisees taught that the Oral Law was an additional set of laws given to Moses and handed down by word of mouth. They were intended to clarify and expound upon the Torah, the written law of the first five books of the Bible. As an example, the Oral Law said that no one could carry his mat or cot on the Sabbath. When Jesus healed a lame man, He told him to pick up his mat and walk. That’s one instance of many where Jesus rejected the Oral Law and showed it to be a man-made addition to the Biblical scriptures. The Pharisees’ Oral Law was later written down and is now part of the Talmud which is one of the main texts studied in modern Rabbinic Judaism.
Thanks! I was reading Mark, came across the term and wondered who they were and what they thought. Loved the video, and plan to watch this whole series, so I subscribed. God bless you!
@Stephen Could you touch on why Jesus would sometimes not answer direct questions but would like to give responses in parables or with another question
Hey Mister Castleberry.... I was wondering ..maybe you could do a video on the secret of contentment that Paul had... Leaning on the Spirit of the LORD for revelation. Ohhh...your more of a History kinda guy, am I right?.. I like History a lot myself. His-story ...get it? 😅😅😅
Josephus was a zealot rebel from Galilee before he turned against his own people and joined the Romans. I doubt his family were herodian. Paul/Saul was a Herodian and was protected by Romans.
So true! Almost to the end of Biden’s term and people are still looking for salvation in Trumps return to office. There is salvation in only in Jesus Christ. We should have great hope in Christ soon return!
“Herod was not of Jewish decent” Ok, let’s think about this…there is no Jewish decent. Period. One can descend from a house, like David. One can descend from a tribe like Dan. One cannot descend from a religious sect. To say I’m of Mennonite descent or Baptist descent is ludicrous. There is Hebrew or Israeli decent. Judaism is a religion that many Non Hebrews practiced and converted to from across many nations including indigenous peoples from other parts of the wider Middle East. Medes. Persians. Babylonians.
Paul was related to the Herods and work with them to get rid of Jesus. Hence we don’t have anything Jesus said coming from Paul. Paul proclaimed a New Age Jesus, and taught to not follow the Law of God. Paul used more Greek philosophy than Jesus’ teachings.
St. Paul was a pharisee. He was commissioned by the Lord Jesus humself. The Apostolic Church in Jerusalem also affirmed his apostleship and teachings. Furthernore, St. Peter further acknowledges that the epistles of St. Paul are inspired by the spirit. Please read the Epistle that was sent to the Galatians to know about the doctrine that was professed by St. Paul and how he defended the arguments against his teaching.
@@CrusaderPhilip No, you are flat out wrong. Jerusalem never affirmed Paul’s teachings. In fact, Paul belittled the apostles, lied, was boastful and preached a completely different gospel. It’s all in Scripture, read it.
@@joseluisromerojr8887 Please provide evidence from scripture where the church in Jerusalem headed by St. James the just, refuted St. Paul. Do you submit to the laws mentioned under the old covenant? If not, why? What response do you give for the Council of Jerusalem where the other apostles could have refuted St. Paul, but did not and? The gospel authored by Luke was primarily based on his interactions with St. Paul. Do you consider this gospel to be invalid then? If St. Paul was a false teacher (as claimed by heretics like you) why did he endure and suffer for the sake of the gospel and eventually suffer martyrdom? St. Paul was commissioned by the resurrected Lord Jesus himself, to be his chosen vessel to guide the gentiles to the Lord's grace. Stop spreading nonsense that you hear from false teachers and demons to sow discord within the Lord's Church.

Paul was a Herodian. His job as a Roman agent was to hunt down and arrest rebel Jews like Jeshua. Paul had Roman militia protecting him from angry mobs at the temple. He also makes reference to his kinsman Herodian who was little Herod. He was a well connected guy and a Roman agent. He infiltrated the early church to subvert it towards a Roman friendly cult. He did an excellent job!
@@CrusaderPhilip notice how Paul says he IS a pharisee not WAS a pharisee. This is after his so called conversion experience. I stand on trial because of the hope of the resurrection of the dead.”
😂😂😂😂Read the bible about Jesus Quran came 500 years after the bible was already there talking about the detailed life of Jesus from birth to death and resurrection
I don't think people realize how much history is in the Bible. Thank you for piecing it together and providing further context.
Blessings Great Word

Wonderful message at the end about praying for leaders no matter how good or evil. As we should pray for sinners. 🙏🙏

Mary Magdalene was not a harlot until a pope conflated her with one. Otherwise solid point.

fantastic fantastic !!!!!
Thank you... You cleared up something to me, there are christians who carry this mindset.

Who was the Herodian parent of Josephus Flavius? Who were the parents of Elisabeth and Zachariah?
Josephus was a zealot rebel from Galilee before he turned against his own people and joined the Romans.
I doubt his family were herodian.
Paul/Saul was a Herodian and was protected by Romans.
They still exist, working earnestly against Christ now
