Today I learned that Paul is the reason Christianity is for everyone. He was so headstrong against it at first and Im glad it was him who pressed the message of God because Jesus knew when he saw the light that He picked the most tenacious follower of His message.
I’m not a religious person, but I’m an old movie enthusiast. I was watching Intolerance (1916) and was confused because I didn’t know who the Pharisees were. Thanks!
Intolerance 1916. Watched the trailer, then put the film aside to watch later.
(Sorry your little white dog 'Gabe' left his body around 3 years ago. ..Had a "nice" high voice. Pretty good pitch at that.)
You unpacked this thing, broke it down and then put it back together, real deal Holyfield I needed this one!!!
Yes what they did with oral law could be considered “bad” but they were genuinely concerned with doing what was holy and didn’t want to unintentionally violate the law.
Very easy to understand and engaging video. Thank you now I'm on my way to binge watch! Lol
Im Muslim and loved this video dude very good work
Loved the application at the end
I liked the balanced view of Pharisees. Sometimes in Christian circles they are demonized. But Pharisees had much in common with current influential religious leaders - for better or worse. They were very disciplined, intelligent and strong - yet the temptation to become controlling of the less powerful was too much for many. Beware of those who are convinced they speak for God.
Amen
@@Prettyordying Bimbo alert
They hated Jesus, had him killed and they are with us still in the form of Orthodox Jews, and they still harbor that disgust of Christ and his followers.
@@RaistlinKishtar Why do you think they didn't like Jesus? And how does that differ from high power religious authorities today. I see similarities for sure.
@@RaistlinKishtar isnt Jesus dying a good thing according to christians?
This is great! I was teaching about Paul in Sunday school for kids. Trying to explain these roles of this time period are important for their understanding of different groups and looking how it compares to today! This was a great look into this group!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I learned that the Pharisees actually tithed from their spices. You made it very clear of how they added on to God's command concerning the Sabbath. Thank you so much!
The Talmudic Jews (not the Torah Jews) hold the word of the Rabbis above the prophets - they never read Isaiah the Talmud says Christ is boiling in his feces and his mother was a whore. The Talmud is a shocking document that is profoundly anti-Christ.
Really enjoy your videos!
Thank you for explaining the good intent of the Pharisees alongside how they took things too far. This really helped me understand their approach and understand why people would have been inclined to follow their leadership.
Finely said and couldn't agree more. It was very informational and opened up my perspective towards the Pharisees
This is so insightful and PERSONALLY helpful. Thank you.
I think this is important. Jesus made a point of this problem and looked for those the pharasies missed. He befriended those who were simple not those who boast about their goodness.
💯
Yes !!! Which is what’s missing in todays church
Legalism is a problem today, especially in Spanish churches.
well done! Not much is really taught about the Pharisees and Sadducees. thank you
Thank You for taking the time to explain .
Very good and clear video my friend! Great job!
Thanks, Corey!
@@StephenCastleberry Wow you’re still responding to comments even a year after the video has released!? Good for you brother!
Haha! Thanks, man. I’m so grateful for everyone who watches!
Thank you for explaining it so clearly.
Great video! Thank you and may God continue to give you insight and revelation to share with the world.
Wonderful video!🤌🏼🙏🏼
Thank you!
Great Job Stephen! Thanks.
Excellent video. Thank you
Thank you! This is very helpful!
Thank you, simple, to point, clear, concise. Idea: 400 silent years, development and process of hiw synagogues came about.... from temple to house of prayer to church today. Tx
Great vid. Thanks!
Thank you, Alexander!
This was really good!
Thanks, man! I really appreciate it!
intro = *separated (not seperated) . This was my first time watching your vids. Nice! Subscribed... (I'll be back.) God bless you!
Fantastic video!!
Thanks, Gustavo!
I thought it was an excellent presentation with little Snark and bias. I can tell you as an Orthodox Jew I don’t see it terribly different than you do. I subscribe to anything in the Oral Tradition that is neither overly burdensome or anything that doesn’t make rational sense. The Bible itself creates fences - see for example, not only not eating pork, but not touching its carcass. Thanks for your perspective.
Everything I learnt here was new, THANK YOU. "Pharisees" kept coming up in matthew" I'll definitely link this video when I start making my own
I always learn something from you. Sure didn’t realize they could pay a non-religious person to carry out task they couldn’t do.
Yea, such a strange loophole!
Great video! I had no idea that the Pharisees regulated themselves all the way down to their spice rack and gnat filtering! The reading plan is still going on strong!
💪
Thank you. I needed this video so badly! I will depend upon what the Holy Spirit leads me to do. I just want to spend the Holy Day with our Father G-D. With all those extra requirements, how would anyone have time for G-D?

Good stuff!
Thanks, Ty!
I didn't really do this much but I learned a little better understanding of the dynamic of/and influential role the Pharisees has on the local population and how their belief system impacted the daily lives of the individual Jewish citizen. Also I was reminded that there were Pharisees who believed and followed Christ even though their colleagues had sentenced Him to his death on the cross
Thank you for posting. Jesus is King!!!!!
This is wonderful
What about a video on the LXX verses original Hebrew old testament and why new testament quotes of the old testament are often slightly different.
Very interesting
Great presentation
Very much Biblical & informative brother, thanks in Christ
Great video. The part about how far they deemed ok to walk or not being able to re-light a fire was new to me.
Some Jews still observe the Pharisees beliefs today
Thank you for your plain explanations.
Excellent job
Thank you
I had a general knowledge of what the Pharisees were, religious hypocrites, but your quick and thorough breakdown is exactly what I came to UA-cam looking for.
Thanks!
I don’t understand why I cannot read the Word Of G-D on the Sabbath. Isn’t that the perfect way to get to know our Father G-D better and spend the entire day with Him? I have honestly never ever read anywhere actual words of G-D saying we could not make a simple hot drink and read HIS word, pray, and dwell in HIS Spirit. How hard is it to push a button for a simple cup of coffee? But someone said not to do those things, but to walk around the city (which is work) go to church services but you can’t use a car to get there no matter how far away it is to the place of worship. They say not to carry a load in public but for you to take food and supplies to people in need. ???
What? How are you to service those in need when they said to not leave your home? They tell you to not do something and in the same breath deny their ever saying so by telling you to not to do what they told you to do.
No wonder why Yeshua hated the Pharisees so much. I am in the process of going through the entire Bible and write down everything G-D Himself commanded US to do that HE meant for US TODAY also. And I’m going to do it for His Son as well. Those things I will obey.
Only Him I will serve.
I didn’t know that they added to the law as if it was from God. Legalism is not good and it is common today.
Phantastic!
Thank you 💚💙❤️
I will use your content to teach about Pharisees, may G-D bless you brother
what is G-D?
This video was extremely helpful thank you very much
Thank youu
Could you please provide me with some historical context regarding the emergence of Pharisees? I am unable to locate any references to them in the Old Testament, and it appears that they suddenly appeared in Jewish society. I would appreciate any insights you may have on this matter.
What is God's commands ? Idk to me its the non oral Torah
Let God be found true while every man a liar is the principle ignored by most " Christian" religion. Jehovah as his name indicates is capable of explaining himself.
This video highlights this truth & the importance of loving Him with our whole mind which leaves for accepting help but not control of our mind in worship.Thanks.
Which book is thine authority? In my book these are the words of:
Deuteronomy 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.
Legalism. Very interesting, and I agree with the assessment.
I didn"t know why Jesus didn't like the Pharisees and I didnt know about the added oral laws. Very informative.
Yes, now i have learn somsthing about pharisees.
The gagprian calender makes it very difficult to keep the Sabbath day as they changed the times
2 Kings 17 describes the beginnings of Pharisees.
Reminds me of hadith in Islam. Thanks for the video
Is to say who where the Kazars & where are they now,
Where is it written that the Pharisees thought they were doing God's will when they turned Him over to the Romans? I now they accused Him of being a demon of satan, but Jesus told them they did not know the Father or they would not have rejected the Son.
Hey! This is never said directly in the Scripture, but Acts 5:34-39 leads me to believe that while some or most were did it maliciously, some probably believed they were doing it to protect from a false messiah.
@@StephenCastleberry Also didn;t want the Romans to get involved.
Stephen with all due respect, the secondary added commandments which you mention, which is called “ the oral law “ was given by G-d to Moses at Sinai alongside the Ten Commandments. Look more into that my friend
How will Jesus ever return?
I thought one of the reasons Jesus was upset with the Pharisees is that they weren't going to the gentiles. This is supposedly one of the reasons he flipped tables as they were in the area where the gentiles were to be near the temple...
Pharisees remind me of renunciates and just super hardcore strict law. Jesus was not necessarily “loose” either I don’t think, but it sounds like the Pharisees and Jesus just had a different interpretation of gods laws.
😇👌
Here's the problem. People presume that jews follow the bible but they don't realize that their main text is the talmud and their main practice is kabbalah (paganism, multiple ancient religions). They are not who people think they are. Jesus also called them the children of the devil.
Woah hey Buddy cool it with the antisemitism ..Jews are gods chosen people for a reason 109 countries kicked them out for absolutely no reason!!
Did the Pharisees stone the Christians? Did they flog them 39 times? I know that Paul says the Jews did it to him, but would the Pharisees have done this?
Hey Stephen. You must be a Sabbath Keeper. I like it. Many of your examples are about Sabbath. Have you organized a group yet of Sabbath Keepers?
Awesome! 👌 Wonderful! Thank you so much for such a captivating and inspiring video on the subject. We Messiahnic Jewish ✡ are firmly convinced that the Pharisees were corrupted, they taugh about God, but did not love God - They did not enter the kingdom of heaven themselves, nor did they let others enter. They preached God, but converted people to dead religion. The Pharisees were hypocrites and paid a great deal of attention to outward ordinances and actions that would make them appear righteous, but they were not a concerned with actually being righteous in their hearts. For this Jesus referred to them as hypocrites.
" Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cu and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisees! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean..." (Matthew 23:25-26).
" Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men's faces, you yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to (Matthew 23:13)
" Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices - mint, dill and cumming, but you have neglected the more important matters of the law; justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter without neglecting the former..."(Matthew 23:23).
Let's praise our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen 🙏
Totally agree, a Messiah would have meant an end to their corrupt ways... they liked their money too much.
Pharisees became corrupted and our Lord Jesus Christ rebuked them when He saw what was going on in the temple;" My house should be a house of prayers and Thanksgiving, but you have transformed it into a den of thieves.
Jesus once warned the disciples and the crowd;" Unless your righteousness exceeds those of the Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven..."
@@jackydebosard8297 Joseph of Arimathea was a Pharisee - didn't like the corruption but could not do anything about it, he gave his tomb to Jesus.
@@pallasathena1369 Well done 👏. Joseph of Arimatea was a business man a traveler merchant and Jesus's uncle. He was well known by the Romans at the time as a merchant and even Pontius Pilate knew him. Joseph of Arimatea like the Pharisee Nicodemus were the followers of Christ and strongly believed that Jesus was the Messiah foretold by the Prophets such as Daniel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Malachi, just to name a few. The Pharisees and the Saducees who strongly opposed Jesus ministry were those close to the high priest Caiphas. Joseph of Arimatea and Nicodemus were the outsiders who believed in the Messiah Jesus, that's why they both played an important role in the burial of Jesus. To God be the glory, praise the Lord, praise Jesus. Amen 🙏
@@jackydebosard8297 there are so many parts of this history that are fascinating. Pontius Pilates wife converted to Christianity - from what little is written, Pontius did not want to harm Jesus. The part I wish we could know is what became of Joseph of Arimathea - it is speculation that he had met Boudicca's family when travelling, which if true, would be the first drop of Christianity in Britain. Wish we knew more.
Strangely it was the film Jesus Christ Superstar which portrayed the truth in a way that stopped putting the blame on an entire group of people. It was all on evil Caiaphus.
Was trying to find out if they were from the Pharaoh bloodline.
And who are they today
And I'm talking about people who pretend that they were Christian yet they won't help a beggar on a corner!. !! Not even give them a quarter people that I know who praise themselves for being Christians do this.! Why are there so many Pharisees are there more nowadays than in jesus's day?? I just can't understand the hard-heartedness that we have to deal with in this world in it is something that I have a hard time blocking out of my sight because I am an empath.
Many of us are in recovery from addiction, and we know too well where the money goes. We are trying to help them in getting out of the situations that lead to panhandling. Enabling someone is not the same as loving them.
1:50 you mean the oral laws are not from God, yet they are in the Bible. If I get you right, you said it was added by the Pharisees
Isn't the "oral law" also known as the "talmud"?
In the modern day, yes. But technically the Talmud didn’t exist at the time of Jesus. The Oral Law (Mishnah) wasn’t written down until after the destruction of the temple. Commentary by various Rabbis was added over time to the written Mishnah to create the modern Talmud.
What was the penalty for not keeping the Sabbath? This may have something to do with why they took it so seriously. Also, Jesus envoked the divine name for Himself, and claimed to have information about Moses that was not found in Torah. This may also have something to do with why they wanted to kill him. Good teaching. Thank you for your work and your time. God bless you.
Nice video, consider the numismatic representations of both groups on Jewish coinage. Pharisees were represented by the pomegranate. The Sadducees were represented by the opium poppy. The Essenes didn’t believe in money.
Separated ones vs separated ones …
Thank you Mike...
The essence of being a Pharisee is running rampant in the world right now and in America especially America meaning the USA portion., I have never seen more selfishness then I see nowadays. Nobody cares for anybody except number one.
And $$$$$$$.
listening and understanding what pharisees mean is, to me, it's like what exactly hadiths in islamic religion. Hadiths were man made which initially a good intention to explain what Quranic commands. So, when you read Quran you have to check it's meaning in hadiths. It basically, something like "oral law" added into Quran or something like a complement.... Later on, this hadiths become so "important" as if someone is rejecting hadith that mean he rejects the Quran... so ridiculous...
Paul was a Pharisee, he came from his father who was a Pharisee.
Acts 23:6 But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.
Yeshua/Jesus and all the Disciples were Pharisees.
Yeshua was hard on them, because they were His brothers. We are always tougher on our family, because we care about them. They were truly steeped in the Word, but strayed from it, and This is why He spoke harshly to them and about them.
Does the Pharisees still exist in Israel today?
They are often depicted as malevolent beings and embodied body and Illuminati Global leaders and hypocrite or often depicted them as raverant wolves and white washed tombs. Till today people who controls the world can be known as the hidden sons and daughters of nephillem and the angels of deaths and hates. God bless those who keeps all his commandments.
I didn’t think so deeply about the herbal tithes. Thanks
the pharisees didn't add laws. the oral law was tradition from moses at sinai.
How much of what the Pharisees did was similar to the demagogues we see in our current day political parties? Using their office to maintain and grow their own power and wealth...
think it went off the rails when "you sit down & let your house burn down, & hope a gentile w a bucke to f water hapns by" became the law. _JC
33 Talmudic Pharisees just had a aneurysm hearing this. Good works man!
From Rome.
I didn’t see in my version of the Bible where “many” of the Pharisees were pro Jesus. Nicodemus was the rare exception. And the others, if they did, were silent. John 12:42 does say that many believe but were scared of losing their political positions, kinda like today. Therefore, they are one in the same. Other than that, there’s a difference between a practicing Jew and a Pharisees, so you don’t want to confuse the two. There are only two groups that Jesus fought with, and repeatedly, that was demons, and Pharisees. There were only 2 groups that sought, constantly, to kill Jesus, Pharisees and demons. Other than hearing things like if you are like them you will not see heaven, or the world hypocrites, they are not mentioned otherwise. In most cases only as examples to avoid. Again, you shouldn’t confused practicing Jews with the religious/political leaders, and the same as for the political/religious leaders today. Avoid being like either
The black hebrew israelite movement is one of them
Well quite a number of them converted after the resurrection if you read the acts, Paul also is included
The Pharisees didn’t add extra laws. They interpreted the Tanach to understand how to apply God’s law. The Pharisees developed the concept of “pikuach nefesh,” which means saving lives. It’s permissible to break the Sabbath to save a life or if someone’s life is in danger. Jesus never broke the law. The stories in the “New Testament” are polemics. Sorrry, but you don’t understand who the Pharisees were and not to learn much more before you try to explain the Pharisees to others.
Bottom line you said: Flee from legalism and Obey God's commandments. Question: The commandment says remember the Sabbath (rest/cease of work) to keep it Holy (set apart to God). So teaching people and force them to observe any other day (like Sunday because they have interpreted that that's better that the written commandment) which is NOT the one God commanded to observe is Legalism according to your definition. Right? Something interesting about keeping the seventh day not any other is that Jesus NEVER broke any commandment including the Sabbath, because that would have him become another sinner. If he called the supporters and teachers of interpretations over the written Word hypocrites and told them that they were taking his converts to hell along with them, what would Jesus say to a religion that has done the same with HIs Father's words and commandments? Are we in great danger because of doing exactly the same?
Mat 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many miracles?’
Mat 7:23 Then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you who practice lawlessness.’
(lawlessness comes from the Greek: anomia, which means without law) from the mouth of Jesus (Yeshua the Jewish Mashiach) it would be said 'Torah' or people without the Torah. The Pharisees had created commandments that were NOT the Torah and we have done just the same. We are a Torahless religion as much as the Pharisees were and still are as a rabbinic Judaism today. If all this is correct we would do good to listen to your adivise: FLEE FROM SUCH AN ERROR !
So why do I have to work on all these days? Something is unfair here.
Holy shit!
Jesus is inside
