    I bought my first Lure 11.5 in 2014. I liked it so much I bought a second one in ‘17 with the overdrive. The seat is all day comfortable and it’s very stable. Storage is excellent: I can store two 7’ rods in the hull if necessary. A rudder is a must. When pedaling normally I get almost 4 mph.
    Overall, a well thought out kayak and great ride. FeelFree’s customer service is awesome. They answer your emails and return your calls.
    If possible, go paddle before you buy, or at the very least, see them in person.

    By FAR the best dang overview/comparison of features of any video on YT! Not just a quick blurb about what you like about them but actual in depth descriptions and comparisons to help people make a choice. Ultimately I went with the FeelFree Lure 13.5 because of the awesome features it has but also because I can upgrade it to the Overdrive in the near future.

    This was a good comparison review, Dan! Owning a Lure 11.5 for just a lttle over a year now, I'm pleased with it. The only [minor] drawback is with the proprietary gear track size, and having to use adapters. I use two of the Feelfree Uni-track devices, and find them sturdy, easy to attach/detach, and move fore/aft on the track. The included safety lanyard on the Uni device with the snap-in track attachment is a plus knowing the device won't be deep-sixed accidently. For my other track attachments I used the YakGear adapters to attach 4 Railblaza Starports (2 fwd, 2 aft), which I use for locating the camera boom in different positions on the kayak.
    The Wheel-in-the-Keel on the Lure makes it ideal for short trips from the truck to the water, on concrete/asphalt, or grassy areas. It doesn't fare well on gravel. For longer distances I use a Railblaza C-Tug. I have a short bed F150, so a BooneDox T-Bone works well in supporting the length of the Lure past the tailgate. I'm 65, so the ease of transport (weight factor) of the Lure is something I thought about when buying it.
    I did not demo the Lure 11.5 on the water, but did make a 2 hr trip to the Nashville area to the Hook 1 kayak store, and sat in the 11.5, and the Gravity Seat, Wheel-in-the-keel, (and other features) easily convinced me to order one.
    Checkout my channel if you get a chance to see a handy moveable storage cart I built to make loading/unloading the kayak into/out of my truck.

    First of all. You done a killer job of reviewing these products. I’m impressed. I’m leaning toward the Lure 11.5. I’ve never owned a kayak. I like the features of the lure along with the good amount of deck space and storage. I’ve been watching tons of videos about the stability. Seems like a great value. As soon as I save up enough funds, I’ll pull the trigger on one. Thanks for taking the time to do this awesome review.

      As a lure owner, be sure to take into consideration that they use a proprietary rail system which requires a bunch of DIY or money to take advantage of. It's my biggest grip with feel free.

    Really great review. I didn't see any bias, just the facts. I have the FeelFree Tandem (next to the lure) and my son in law has the Jackson Big Tuna. I think both are well made, stable, move well through the water and are fairly easy to upgrade. I don't like Feelfrees proprietary track system but bought the adapters you show for the cup holder I added, no big deal. The FeelFree is definitely heavier than the Tuna but both are manageable. The stern wheel on the FeelFree might work on smooth surfaces with no gear in the boat, otherwise it's useless (in my humble opinion). These look like all great kayaks and your review was one of the best I've seen! Great job!

    I’ve had the Lure for a year and a half. It’s a great boat for all the reasons you mentioned. The sonar pod seems fine to me, but I’m not comparing it to others like you did. Setting up my fish finder was a snap. The seat is awesome, probably the main reason I bought the boat. I have back problems and it’s height adjustability and comfort help. The track system is a bit annoying, with having to buy and use the adapters. One thing for sure is that this boat needs a rudder. I fish a relatively calm river, but a rudder is definitely on my list. Another plus for FeelFree; after about seven months, after a day on the water, there was about an inch of water inside my hull. FeelFree replaced my boat with a new one. I have enjoyed many of your videos.

    Great video and tremendous comparison between the 3 yaks.
    for me the choice would be between the bona fide and the liska, with a bonafide likely winning out in the end.
    where has tracking would be a little bit of a concern for me with a bona fide, the height of the seat is beyond reproach.
    However, it is unfortunate that they did not include gear tracks on the sites of the stern.
    The feel free is a non-starter for me because of two things.. origin of the company being non U.S. and the requirement of purchasing adapters every time you want to use accessories on their proprietary track system

    Awesome thorough comparison. I have a Jackson coosa fd for my big pedal kayak but I wanted a nice light paddle kayak as an adjunct. I went with the bonafide because of the stability and comfort. I also liked the rod staging area on the top of the hatch and the pod. I am really happy with it so far, my only real “complaint” is there is nothing in the back end with regard to tracks or flush mounted rod holders so I need to add either or both, otherwise I have nowhere to put my rods except if I bring my Hobie crate (which I have nothing to attach the crate to, except wrapping the bungees around it....). Although with the seat up, I can stage 3-4 rods resting on the seat base and hatch grooves and it is pretty sweet to have them all sitting right in front of me ready to go

    I've owned a dozen of the feel frees and they're a good boat. Very slow, I know they're not supposed to be fast, but I recently purchased a Wilderness Systems Radar 135 and it cruises down the river. Now I don't have to spend all day trying to keep up to my wife in her Pungo. No comparison. But the feel free is still a good boat, in fact i like my Moken 10 to camp out of more than any other boat, because of the front and back.

    All three boats are very nice and would all be a nice buy. I really like the seat on the Lure, it's height adjustment is really cool. The Bonafied looks to have the nicest seat but I do not like what you have to do change the height. I think they need to work on a quicker setup, but the boat is incredibly stable so it may not matter. The Jackson looks very nimble and traditional. I will say I didn't like the hatch and electronics plastics on the Lure, they looked like something you would find on a $300 kayak imo. The Bonafied looked to have the best plastics overall but, and this is a big but, I can not believe the Bonafied doesn't have built in rod holders. That is absolutely mind boggling to me. I do not use a crate, I use a nice bag and cooler. And no way am I drilling holes in my yeti or gluing anything to it. I think they really need to take a hard look at that. If not for the rod holders the Bonafied would be an easy pick for me, but I think the Lure would have to be first just from that simple fact. Thanks for the great vids, very helpful what you cats do out there.

    Great review! 1st time I’ve seen an in-depth comparison between the lure and the bonafide. While I love the stability and seat height (and height of the seat back) of the bonafide, the lure would be my choice as the basic boat can be retrofitted with pedal drive (and motor drive if I hit the lottery). Couldn’t see in the video but don’t the lures foot pegs adjust easily from the seat?
    If bonafide would do a pedal retrofit they’d get my money but... lol

    What are the weight capacities with each seat? Is there a cap? Bigger guys may be limited true? Not everyone is small or medium. Some of us are above 250 pounds. Weight capacity of each yak including the max weight for seat capacity is a deciding factor. I live in south east coastal Virginia and most of my kayaking is done in the salt water. Waves, tides, and wind are players. I have an old Ride 135 and feel as though the Lure would be my best option. I know Luther personally, but his kayak is, in my opinion, designed more for fresh water excursions. The Jackson will paddle like a barge. Thanks!

    Hi Dan ... Just found this video clip, thanks for the info. ... Which kayak/hull design will choose for offshore work? Looks like the Bonifide has the higher sides compared to the others.

    I bought a Cuda HD and put it this way. I LOVE the kayak. I really do however standing up in it is a complete joke. It's just not doable for me. It's too tippy. I wish i went with a Big Rig or the Bonafide SS127 myself. However i got a 2018 leftover model Cuda HD for a STEAL and i am very happy with the boat. It is pretty quick too. My next one will be a Bonafide though. I love the storage space and deck space that the boat has.

    I have watched months of videos ... I favor the Bonafide ss 107 .... I am almost 70 and want the comfort.. It's light enough to load myself ... The replaceable skids ... I hear the wheel in the keel gets chipped up fast ... Love the front hatch better on the Bonafide... Just a better kayak for me

    I was thinking about getting a (used) Bonafide SS107 for duck hunting.
    I'm a short and light guy and I usually go ultralight with a 60-pound lab.
    Any thoughts?

    Hey Dan. Thanks for the info you put out in this video. I’m looking to get a kayak real soon as I’ve been researching which would suit me the best as I’m 6’4” at 280lbs. I’m leaning towards the Bonafide as you even said its the most stable. What are your thoughts on what I should get for my size. Thank you!!

      Bonafide has a 425lb weight limit. I have one and love it. I’m 6’3” and 235.

    Thank you for the video and going through the 3 boats. I am looking to buy my first kayak. I have been interested in getting a fishing kayak, but had some health issues that are hopefully in the rear view mirror. Again, thanks for going over the 3 kayaks. I am interested in the FeelFree Lure 11.5 and the Vibe Shearwater 125 and could use some insight on the two. The Lure looks incredible, has some internal storage and the very adjustable seat. The Shearwater seems to be really well thought out with internal access, storage areas galore, comes with a rudder and what also seems to have a very comfortable seat. Both are at the same price point, and can be retrofitted with a pedal drive. So, what am I missing? Which is better to paddle and which is more stable? Any insight or recommendations are appreciated.

    Great video! I am so glad I grabbed 2 Lures from you guys. I was a little afraid that I would have buyers remorse after watching this video but for my personal needs I am more than ever convinced that the Lure for our family was the perfect choice! Thanks for a great review video Dan.

    If you had a choice between the feel free or the bonafide for everything from still small lakes to the Puget sound here in Seattle. Which one would you buy

    • @HeadwatersKayak
      @HeadwatersKayak  3 роки тому +2

      If I was paddling the sound I would not pick either of them. Both are too slow and wide for open water use. I'd pick a Ocean Kayak Trident, or Wilderness Tarpon or something along those lines with speed and glide.

    There are so many boats and so many options and sizes, how on earth can someone choose? What would be a good minimum kayak? Something with a raised seat, stable to stand, don’t need the bells and whistles. Just something that works well in a river or small lake? I have a used old town dirigo 10’, it works well but it’s sit in and doesn’t track real well. Also seems tough to paddle. Field and stream has an eagle for about $500 they also have a much nicer one for $799. The ability to add peddles long term might be worth it?

  • @maldrury8313
    @maldrury8313 5 років тому +4

    When buying a kayak you must consider how much energy is required to paddle it. Wide kayaks with high seating positions may be comfortable to sit in but try paddling them against a strong wind and/or tide. You will soon get tired trying to paddle these yaks any great distance.

    Hi! I've watched alot of your videos trying to find a good kayak to fish from here in Europe where speed is a important factor. You seam to be the person who knows about kayaks and what you are talking about.
    I would like to see a video like this one, where you compare Feelfree lure 13.5 with a native, nucanoe and Jackson in the same price range.
    Thx from Sweden

    • @brucestarr4438
      @brucestarr4438 5 років тому

      For speed, you might look at a Jackson Kraken. The 15.7 is faster than the 13.5.

    As usual, thanks for the info my friend. I really wish the Feelfree boats would come in something other than the camo. Bit of a diva complaint but if they had colors like the Bonafides I'd be all about it. Also, if any one of these smaller boats had more horizontal rod storage (a la Nucanoe Pursuit - much bigger boat, I know) I'd buy it tonight.

    Great review. Just picked up a lure V1 on clearance for $769. Arrives tomorrow. Already ordered the rudder kit. What are your thoughts on the PodMount trolling motor mounts they build for the lure? Worth the $150??

    Hey Dan, did you ever get the Liska on the water? Curious about how the hull design performs, particularly on how much the standability hampers the speed. I realize there's always a bit of compromise on those two factors--your on-the-water review of Crescent Lite Tackle vs. Jackson Bite was informative. Def want to stand, but don't want a cumbersome super-slow yak. I'm 5'11" 170lbs, so don't need a big boat. Fish inshore saltwater in Florida.

    Loved the video, really liking the Liska. If you don't mind me asking do you guys still sell the Native Ultimate FX 13 propel? I'm very interested in that kayak after you did a viewers rig like a year ago, but I still haven't seen a more detailed breakdown of that boat.

    Lots of great info. Thanks!
    Question pls... Which of the 3 is best for fishing/camping overnights (fish/camping gear, cooler)? MAX WEIGHT LIMITS BECOMES A HIGH CONSIDERATION FOR ME. I do have Ulta Light backpacking gear but would take a YETI 65 if it's a 2 or more day trip. I currently take my PELICAN MONACO DLX when fish/camp overnights. Its MAX WEIGHT LIMIT is 775 but hard going against the currents of a large lake's shoreline.
    Thanks, in advance, for your opinions.

    I might stir up some emotions with this comment but I think that manufacturers of the pedal drives have them priced really high. They are complicated devices that are difficult and costly to manufacture. Kayak designs that make it easy and inexpensive to add a trolling motor may be a great option for consumers. This approach may be good for the consumer AND manufacturers. If no data but would guess they sell a pedal drive for every 4-5 kayaks they sell. Although the selling price of the pedal drive is almost as much as the boat, I'd guess the margins are greater on the boats. In other words, selling boats (not pedal drives) should be the focus. A boat designed to easily and inexpensively add a trolling motor may do VERY well. Your thoughts??

    • @HeadwatersKayak
      @HeadwatersKayak  9 місяців тому

      This seems to be a trend. Although companies like Native and Oldtown who have proven systems that have been around for a while are probably doing just fine with their systems. Innovation is expensive so if you can get some mileage out a product it becomes cheaper over time.

    My only real issue with the FeelFree is the hull design seems like it could be hung up on rocks in class 1&2 shores. Get a little sideways and your getting wet. Do you have any experience with that happening?
