yep doing the same lol, got the hotswappable rk61 and picking up soem durock stabilisers and some feker airy switches.. gonna lube the switches and stabilisers and pretty much follow this video with some pudding keycaps..hopefully gonna be fire :D
Jo bro im already sitting here 3 days and cant decide wich keyboard i should get myself. Either the Rk61, Gk61 or the tecware phantom 89. Can you guys pls help me decide. Is the Rk61 a great choice or should i go with the gk61?
@@where9622 depends on what you want to do with the keyboard and your budget for features... I think all those are great to begin modding keyboards. Also the largest hurdle is starting, once you get that it'll go smoother with your experience.
@@Solcres_Joa i just want a new Keyboard to Play with and that i can upgrade time after time. Im still rocking with my 30€ Keyboard and want to get a new one.😂
Depends, if the person who is watching this is new to the custom MK scene it's a useful comparison IMO. A lot of people bought the GK61 as a "gaming keyboard" and MX Blue clones are the most popular type of switch for those keyboards in my experience
Love this man. I can't believe how much better it sounds! How you broke it down step-by-step is awesome and makes it look easier than I had expected (I know it is still tedious). I can't wait to try this on one of mine. Thanks again.
I just got my GK61 today, straight out of the box with stock gateron yellows it already sounds amazing, I think the main reason is because i used a deskpad or just a very big mouse pad and i have a wooden desk which would make my keyboard sound deeper and thockier. My spacebar and stabilizers sound amazing stock, because of how they are pre lubed.
@@otami yeah I also got my gk61 from hk on amazon but the pre lube on mine stabs was almost not noticeable and since there no lube on the switchs and plate mount states already Radley my gk61 sounded horrible makesmd think what are they doing in the lube department
Fantastic job on this video, straight to the point, clear and easy to understand and insanely helpful, glad to see you improved over your previous modding guides, don't get me wrong those were great, but this is on a whole new level, keep up the grind my guy, and you're so close to 100k, congrats!
Seeing the akko keycaps reminded me of the time the guy at the store dropped a bunch of the boxes. The plastic wrap was torn and you could hear the keycaps rattle, haha.
If you want to have good keyboard sound, I recommend the gk61 mechanical version. But it uses want to have a fast keyboard for gaming, then you should get the optical version like this guy.
Thanks for the video. Really enjoyed it. BTW, I was wondering if you could do a review for a high end key board like the ducky mechanic at series sometime
Omg it thoccs thanks a lot for this build build it has the perfect sound and the switch is also the fastest gaming switch, this keyboard is GOD mode after this mods
This is very similar to my board. I have a Tezarre TK 61 with Gateron Optical Blacks, so this might be about as close as I will find to mine. Thank you! This will be very helpful.
Hey Consumer Tech Review! I've been wanting to try the butyl rubber that you normally use but whenever I click the link to it, it always says that it's currently unavailable. Is there a second option or different company that makes the same item?
The tutorial was great, but when I got to the last part to just re-screw it back in, the screws wouldn’t actually go in and tighten, you would just keep turning them forever. The top right screw would go in, but then the whole keyboard shifted towards it and I couldn’t get any other screws in. Can someone please help?
i will definetly watch this video as i mod my gk61 one day i want to do the foam mod and tape mod. what other mods can i do for my keyboard to sound better?
Hey I have a question. I have an LG 35” UltraWide monitor. Your monitor arm you have/had on your 34” by ErGear says it also supports 35” Monitors. Would you say that I could then use it on my monitor too?
Just ordered everything off your list to mod my GK61. I got the one with the Blue Gateron switches but I was even thinking of upgrading the board to metal, I saw it on the Skyloong website...do you think that would be a worthwhile addition including what you have shown above?
On the GK61, is it possible to remove the pcb and plate from the case without taking out the switches? would be wanting to do the tape mod but i dont want to waste alot of time.
ii bought gateron milky yellow pros from amazon, would i be able to use it with this keyboard? and if so whiich one would i need? im not too famiiliiar with keyboards as i am with pc's
hey, I was wondering what you do with all these keyboards you build. Because if you ever plan on selling them I'd gladly pay. Love your vids man, and keep up the awesome work!
Might have to do this. Want to switch my browns for silvers maybe along with the rest of the mods. Wish we could get a heavier spring tactile in the optical switch line tho. Or at least with the 1mm actuation distance like the silver and yellow.
Yea i did same to mine lol omg sounds Great mod. Yours sound good to man gave a like I mod my gk 61 Lube switches did stabs and foam. Mine sounds great to
I would recommend RK61 as GK61 is Optical keyboard so it can't use any other switches beside Optical switches and Techware Phantom ( the hot-swap version ) use Outemu hot-swap socket is not a recommend choice either as the Outemu sockets are thinner than RK61.
Now that build is friggin CLEAN I love that colorway and the acoustic is pretty damn good. Can't wait to do something like this to my RK61

Kind of an unfair comparison comparing stock blues to lubed yellows. Stock yellows to lubed yellows in a modded board would be infinitely more useful
Yea, that's totally my bad. Should've put the yellows on it stock for a sound test then modded it.
@@ConsumerTechReview np man, still love ur videos :) criticism was given where i thought it was needed as all 🙂

can i put any switches on my gk61
very clean guide/tutorial, this is what watch while modding my keyboard
can we skip step 4? is it possible?
What's the difference between keycaps profile? And which one better for gaming and typing? Can you make a video about that?
I unscrewed all the screws but the plate and PCB wont come off so i cant add foam or any kind of material to add to he bottom
Finished my gk61 mod last night using your video it would be cool to show you my finished product
Should I mod mine or keep it how it is this is my first 60% keyboard and 2nd mechanical keyboard

I’ve always loved this keyboard and would’ve loved to get it so This should be awesome!
Will this make the keyboard worse or just sound better and feel better

you should try modding the womier k66 and make it the brightest keyboard
i will definetly watch this video as i mod my gk61 one day
i want to do the foam mod and tape mod. what other mods can i do for my keyboard to sound better?
Help!! I took all the screws out and the plate is not coming off😢
instead of using akko keycaps, you should use YDMK keycaps since they have amazing colour ways and are half the price
That’s one really nice sounding board
Would it still be a big difference to switch the stabs on my spacebar without modding them?( just swapping with stock ones)
Im gonna lube my gk61 and put films in it tomorrow so this was very coincedental
Do you think that this keyboard (after mods) or the Akko keyboard that you’ve reviewed would sound better (if I did the same mods)?
Just had to ask but is there a difference in lubing mechanical and optical switches?

The precut foam link he has sends me to a 64 key precut is that fine? Isnt gk61 61 keys (I don't know much about keyboard's)
thanks made my gk sound amazing
Hey, what's the difference between the asceny one and gk61? The Asceny one is slightly cheaper on Amazon.
Can I use any tape?
what’s that wrist wrest you have, I’m really looking for one for the gk
Hey, I just bought a Skyloong GK61. It has Gateron Optical Yellows. Do those stabilizers you recommend in this video work on an optical board? Greetz
He has an optical one
Wearing noise cancelling headphones during gaming, can't hear the keys at all using stock yellow.
The gk61 doesn’t have a battery?
less painful solution: Head phones
The GK61 from the Amazon link internals don’t look like the one from the video not sure why
my first mechanical keyboard
You have help me so much thank you man
Can you use pe foam and masking tape for the modding?
And with the foam how many layers can you put on the keyboard and the same with the tape
stock blues and then you put in lubed yellows… good video but the comparison just doesn’t work

What did you use for the hand reset on the keyboard ?
