I would also mention that unless you don’t care much about the RGB you should go for a switch that is clear or at least has a cutout or is milky so it shines through
@happylenny Yeah, but lets be real, most of the RGB value (or backlights of any kind) comes from the shinethrough for typing in the dark. this model in particular is really good for this as a budget board, because it has per-key lighting effects that trigger on keypresses. You can tell live whether a key activated properly or not, whether you made a typo without even looking at the screen, hell, on the right setting, it's practically a whole GUI of it's own.
I modded my White RGB RK61 last night which was already pretty darn quiet. I purchased foam for under the plate, Durock stabilizers and lube, and some keycaps (not those suggested, which are now almost are almost $100 CAD!). I didn't bother with the switches - the reds I have - which apparently are Kalih - are perfectly fine (read: quiet) for me. To my (pleasant) surprise, there was already closed cell foam between the plate and PCB, and open cell foam on the underside too. I put some layers of painters tape on the underside to dampen the noise a little more, but left the area around the battery alone. I also put foam on the PCB where the switches go. No problems with fit. I didn't bother lubing my switches, but put O-rings on the keycap stems to help with the sound for bottoming out. Very happy with the results.
@@ConsumerTechReview hi, i was just wondering, your keyboard does not have a wire in it when you open it up? is it bluetooth? also does this mean I can foam mod it because it must be battery? pls reply
I essentialy did the same stuff. I even had the same felt but got gateron yellows and a different set of keycaps. this is a nice guide and a good video. one thing though: you don't have to cut that much of the felt to make it fit. The whole part for the spacebar can stay, you just need to cut the small tabs.
Wow what a difference! I have a RKg68 65% and it came with Gateron browns. I upgraded the stabilizers, lubed them, added the Purple Pandas and lubed them . I added a few pieces of foam and this thing came out amazing! It wasnt too bad as far as difficulty but it was worth the 3 hours that it took! Awesome video and thanks for all the help!
Did not realise how long this would take 🤣 got mine today and its taken me over an hour just to do the stabilisers, the switches are gonna be fun 🥴😂 great video tho man appreciate it :)
I just got this board about two weeks ago and they have made improvements to this board. They include a very thin piece of base foam and they added a pretty decent piece of plate foam. I swapped out my switches for pre lubed gateron yellow 3.0 and some PBT keycaps. Great video with some easy mods to improve the sound signature!
Why don't you just order a barebones kit then? The gmk67 is 35 dollars and comes with plate foam, pcb foam, and base foam. It also has very well lubed stabilizers, and a volume knob. And it is gasket mounted and south facing. It also has a polycarbonate plate and is compatible with screw in stabilizers, like durocks. Any other plastic keyboard is a waste of money, since the gmk67 sounds really good after tape mod no matter what switches you use.
