I agree 1285 Restobar does have the best clam chowder. I live in Florence and had all of them. As for the Casino it’s good too. But I really like their Calamari at Bills the best.
I lived in Florence, and I think you guys are being generous. Mo's has the worst seafood in Oregon. I don't think I ever met a local who liked their food, so if not for the unsuspecting tourists the place would have gone out of business long ago.
Thanks for your review! I, personally, avoid Mo's when on the Oregon coast. I love to travel to the coast, frequently. And, there are so many wonderful places to eat fresh seafood. The food trucks are often amazing! Gold Beach has a great one! Nehalem's has a wonderful fish and chips spot! Astoria has one of the best fish and chips with a variety of fish, including tuna which is absolutely delicious!! The local chefs from food trucks to nicer restaurants know how to cook the local, fresh fish!!! 😋😁💯🤩😍
We have a restaurant just like that in SF. Sinbad's. Not sure if it is still around. It was a trap for Prom Night dinners and tourists. I fell for it a few times when I was young and did not have a finer dining sense back then.
@@bestfoodreviewroadtrip7612 I've got a buddy in New Bern I visited before I came here. He knows a shrimp boat captain and got me 20 pounds of 15 count for a 100 bucks that I brought out here.
The best clam chowder in town is at the Krab Kettle. It's available after 12:30pm and they are open until 6pm all days but Christmas and Thanksgiving. Krab Kettle has clams in their chowder, no bacon. Krab Kettle is a monger so you have to have the chowder to go.
I used to make a 2 hour trip to Mo's back in the early 80's just to get their seafood. Wonderful chowder and everything was delicious. That was still when Mo's was in the old garage and Mo herself would come around and pour coffee. It seemed like the Mo's experience got less and less enjoyable after they built the first "annex" right across the street and closed the original location.
Mo's is definitely a go-to for many people but a lot of the food is middle of the road IMO. The clam chowder is good but I prefer the Chowder Bowl's chowder. It does depend on what you get, though. Always loved the bay shrimp sandwich and the peanut butter pie at Mo's.
I lived in Florence for seven years. Mo's was known as the McDonald's of Clam Chowder. Like McDonald's, Mo's was dirty and the food was very poor quality. And like McDonald's, you could literally, buy it and place it directly in the toilet. It was a place people went to once, unless they were a McDonald's patron or just a fan of bad food.
😆 We lived in Eugene for decades and only ate at Mo's when we used their parking lot to go crabbing Despite the questionable food, the view of the river is outstanding, and the servers very kind. There's better seafood in town for sure
@@bestfoodreviewroadtrip7612 From a 42 year resident of Oregon, these are some killer restaurants to put on your list for next time. Local Ocean Seafood (Newport, one of the very best in the state), Tony's Crab Shack (Bandon), Zola's by the Water (Brookings). Hukilau (Florence), Hwy 101 Burger (Lincon City), Tidal Raves (Depot Bay).
I live in Florence, having retired from Seattle. Sadly, I must say that the food here leaves a bit to be desired. After the chaos of covid, the various restaurants have struggled with staffing, pricing and quality. We're paying Seattle prices for food that simply doesn't meet the same standards. I guess I got spoiled by the unparalleled quality, variety and freshness. Still, I do enjoy it here and the people are very, very friendly, one of the shortcomings of the "Seattle cool".
I thought it said, "OH." I used to live in Kentucky and my bf's people lived in Ohio. That'd be a weird seafood review. But my family live(d) in Newport, very close to Florence & this Mo's. I'm pretty sure I've been, but I'm also pretty sure I can't remember a damn thing about the food! This review is bizarre. "Well, the food is weird, but I'm hungry, so I'll eat it." Not really reliable!
That’s too bad about the food quality - that’s the problem with chains sometimes. It was my MILs fav but that was many years ago. K’s comment to your French fries was “the frenchiest fries” 😂
Sea food on the coast is mostly deceiving, you expect its local fresh fish. Mostly not. Your getting mostly frozen commercially available off the back of the Sysco truck fish, fries and bagged soup. There are some rare places that do serve the best local fish but your not getting actual quality out of season. Crab season if you can afford $30-50/lb crab is amazing. Stick w the local rockfish, as any salmon you get is dyed Atlantic frozen crap, unless your paying $45-65 per plate for Chinook from up north. Oysters are not a local item in most of Oregon. Don't waste your time, I've actually been served Jared oysters on a clam shell as fresh on the half shell. Beware of small towns on busy weekends. They never have enough stock or help.
I live an hour away. Moved here 20 some years ago. We saw Mo’s billboards everywhere, bragging about their “world famous” clam chowder. I love clam chowder. Mo’s has the worst clam chowder I’ve ever had. Bar none. I’d rather have Campbell’s out of a can. Seriously.
We lived in Eugene for decades and knew better. We do appreciate their willingness to let us park in their lot while crabbing on the public dock and wanted to patron the place
Mo's has really gone downhill, especially after the COVID situation. We ate there last year, in Florence, and thee was nothing good about any of the experience. Service was poor, food was mediocre, place was not as clean as it has been in the past - so pretty much done with Mo's. We can get much better meals elsewhere, for the same price, or slightly more, which I am willing to pay if the food is quality and service is good. Too bad, as Mo's used to be the place. Tourists just have not figured it out.
from a native; moe's kinda sucks! the best thing is fish and chips. if you want anything else, go up on the coast hiway to the bell bouy, cheaper and better!
I believe there is no expectation of privacy once a person leaves their home. If this is bothersome, I suggest you skip past travel and dining reviews on UA-cam
If you ever come back to Florence. The resto bar and the casino both have great chowder.
Our family is close by, so we will be back 🙂
I agree 1285 Restobar does have the best clam chowder. I live in Florence and had all of them. As for the Casino it’s good too. But I really like their Calamari at Bills the best.
I was not impressed with the Restobar. high prices and dull food.
@@AnnaPaul56 Krab Kettle for the best chowder in town.

It's been years since we've been to Mo's just because of experiences like this. Thanks for reviewing the Florence location!
Next time in Florence, go to Novelli’s on the dock. Guy Ferrari says they have the best seafood chowder on the Oregon coast.
We have eaten their crab chowder many times! We love it, but I think the chowder at The Horn in Depoe Bay is better 😉
Novelli's isn't as good as it was when the folks were alive. It's gone downhill.
We have a restaurant just like that in SF. Sinbad's. Not sure if it is still around. It was a trap for Prom Night dinners and tourists. I fell for it a few times when I was young and did not have a finer dining sense back then.
It's well advertised and has been around forever
Doesn't mean it's good
To die for clam chowder is found at Trinidad Bay Cafe in Calif.
Thanks for the recommendation!
Thanks for the heads up, I'm from North Carolina and need to find some seafood spots
We loved NC!!! We spent some time near Emerald Isle and then New Bern a couple years ago 😍
Our favorite restaurant in Florence is Bridgewater

@@bestfoodreviewroadtrip7612 True that, but we were talking Florence OR., so my chowder suggestion related specifically to Florence.
Tabasco in New England clam chowder is a must.
I always use Tabasco or another type of hot sauce, however I have to wait until Amy tries it first. 😝
not if you don't like tabasco...

We really liked the location right on the water in Newport. Should have shared a review 😆
Firehouse right down the street is good chowder, get the deluxe, it’s covered in shrimp and cheese baked on top.
We have tried Firehouse and enjoyed their comfort food!
There is something comforting about going to mo's... we'll try that pie the next time we visit
Next time you go to Florence, go to the Firehouse. Some of the best on the coast. If money doesn't matter, Killo's in Lincoln City.
We've been to both, and they're great!!
Much of Mo's food is big chain pre prepped somewhere other than the restaurant you're at. The chowder is a bunch of powder in big plastic bags
Not surprised

Mo's is so middle of the road, that may even be a compliment. There is sooooo much better seafood on the Oregon coast. We live in southwest Oregon.
We spent all last summer on the Oregon coast and found many good seafood stops, all better than Mo's 😅. Thanks for watching 😀

When in Seaside, hit either Doogers or Norma's

The best part about Mo's in that city is the amazing views. I can live with mediocre food when there's an ocean and a sunset
😅didn’t you try the whine? It’s fresh.

Definitely not the best 😕
Frozen

Just for tourists, locals avoid it
Wisconsin has great fish frys
Haven't been up there yet. Looking forward to checking it out.
mmmmm Port Washington perch and fresh water shrimp YUM
😃
Mo's hasent been fit to eat for 30 years

Agree! We love to catch and cook our crab!
There's also a great fisherman's market in Eugene with many fresh options
I do not like Mo's clam chowder - never did. It's got a bacon flavor that overwhelms whatever clams might be in the chowder.
I agree

Totally agree! They are very gracious with parking while crabbing at the public pier, so we'd patron their restaurant
As a 40-plus year Oregon resident, Mos was okay back in the 80s. But it has dramatically gotten worse. I will eat anywhere else. Not worth it.
