    A bit slow for the cartridge but seems like great ammo for small ring 8mm mauser rifles. A lot of surplus can be hot and cases might not be as strong as they use to be, had one case crack after firing but my yugo took it like a champ.

    Be careful putting wood stocks in lead sleds, especially old ones. Keeping the stock restricted under recoil can lead to cracking or splitting of the wood.

    It's good to know the ppu projectiles are 0.3215. Some old 8mm rifles take .318 or .320 or other diameters. This one may need the traditional 0.323, if you haven't done it already, you should slug your bore, or take a casting with cero-safe, to find out what size projectiles you need for the best precision. Keep up the good work

      I've heard about this as well. Some guns around WW1 were made for an 318 bore 8mm and by the end of the war they were making 323 bores and projectiles so they could get more accuracy out of heavily used rifles that were still being fielded by units after 4 years of mag dumping 8mm downrange.
      If anyone knows the exact history of this I'd love to know, but that's the gist of what I know.

    I have some nice 8mm M loads. A friend of mine has a 1950's milsurp one. It's the family's deer and yote rifle. No scope just irons and it's on 4 generation family member. I will see if I have some sitting around.

    This stuff is so underloaded I needed to put my sights on the 400m setting in order to line up at 100y

      Yes I talked to SG Ammo about it today, and it's likely because PPU is playing it safe with the old smaller bore 8mm that could still exist that may have not been converted. I am going to see about testing some S&B

  • @jeremysiegel10
    @jeremysiegel10 Рік тому +4

    for accuracy, I have tested PPU 8mm FMJ loads in 6 different mausers, 4 persian long rifles, a yugo M48, and a persian shorty carbine
    the best accuracy Ive achieved is 1.1 inches, 5 shot group at 100 yards using the persian long rifles, 1.5 inches with my yugo M48, and about 2.5 inches with the persian carbine
    I think the accuracy is excellent, and limited only by my ability to shoot irons at those distances. I also reload my cases and PPU has good enough brass for my purposes. The PPU stuff shoots cleanly and is my baseline test ammo for any 8mm mauser rifle

    I think the European ammo companies call weak SAAMI ammo 8X57 Mauser, and the much more powerful CIP ammo 8X57 JS.
    The S&B 196gr soft points I've had over the years, marked 8X57 JS, are hot 🔥

    Where did you get that scope mount from? Does it just mount to where the range slider used to be, or does it also require you to drill and tap the rifle?(edit: I'm impatient and totally missed the bit at the end about not needing to drill and tap it)

      In Europe that's still one of the cheapest brands and their Spce bullets tend to be extremely accurate. The cheapest .308 reloads for my Tikka T3x CTR I can do are 150 gr. SPCE bullets with 43,5 gr of N140. They repeatedly shoot groups below 0,5 MOA at 100m. (Reload data shouldn't be copied and I won't take any responsibility)
