It looks like you haven't done the AAC 75gr Black Tip Sabre yet. I ask you to please do so when you can. You ARE the encyclopedia of ammo and we all are grateful!
I got a bunch of this leftover from a range that I was on a few years ago. Weird thing is….the Marine Corps takes the leftover ammo and gives it to EOD to blow up. I got maybe 1,410 rounds left. Semper
My understanding of MK318 is that the front half of the projectile is designed to fragment in order to "break" the barrier while the solid copper base goes through to what is behind.
Hornady lists their 62gr spire point as a barrier blind round. Guess it does the same punching through. Wonder if the military didn't want a soft point cause of feed ramp fouling?
@@TheDkb427 No, it's because the Hague Accords prevent the use of soft and hollow point rounds that are designed to expand to cause additional injury. The Mk318 is a "barrier defeating" round that has been approved for widespread issue to military forces... That also is more effective than traditional FMJ rounds.
Your statement at the end, about questioning things, is exactly why I watch your videos. The consistency of testing parameters (those within your control), along with velocity, and other data. Have you ever made a list of your preferred cartridges for 5.56, for home defense use? Watching this video, I'd stay away from this load for home defense due to the risk of over penetration.
I made this short as a generalized list. Something like a Hornady Tap T2, or a Speer 75gr GD would be very ideal for a HD/SD round. If you wanted better barrier penetration against unknown potential for body armor, then M855A1 all day.

Immediately bought 400 rounds when I got home, "200 of each". They performed better than any other 5.56 round I've ever used by a significant margin.
@@TheDkb427The first one I went on we could only use 16"+ but the most recent one I did in Florida had FAR less rules so I ran my BCM 12" w/ hux 556k. The BCM did great within 100 yards. For any shots further than that my buddy would use his 16" LWRCI. He was using 55g federal hi-shok which is like a fragmenting softpoint and that round did very good as well.

Thumbs up on this video specifically due to the "abbreviated" velocity test. They should all be abbreviated. Firing 10 rounds out of every firearm you've ever owned is BOOOORRRRRIIIINNNNGGGG.
Someone down in the comments will be like “why didn’t you shoot 11.5” though. Maybe In the future we only show 3 and if we do the full spectrum we just throw it in the spreadsheet ?
He could do what Paul Harrell used to do and add more time to explain why he keeps the shooting portions and that you can skip them if you think they're boring.
If you're looking for entertainment, just skip the "boring" parts then? This shit is invaluable for data purposes, because the statistical significance between 3, 5, and 10 rounds is huge.
I don't think there's any doubt that it's a superior barrier blind bullet. What barrier would you have in mind? IT could provide us with a follow up video, maybe pitting M193, M855, M855A1, Mod1, Maybe Mod 0 if I can find it, and Mk262 against said barrier.. Within budgetary reasons :D

Buffman, can you do some fmj 9mm ball testing in ballistics gel. I hate to say it but after doing all the research I can looking at hollow points, fort Scott TUI, and other fmj gel tests I’m thoroughly convinced that fmj round nose consistently tumbles does just as much damage as all the premium rounds of course with a little more than average penetration which isn’t a bad thing on clothed targets full of bones and possible through walls or auto glass. Maybe it’s all you ever need, feeds more reliably too…
If I recall correctly the Marines used that load a lot, and the Marines also stuck with the M16 longer fielding a lot of A4’s (which is a 20” barreled rifle for those that for whatever reason call themselves American and don’t know)
I wonder if the penetration would've been less in calibrated ballistic gel. Anyway, I don't have any issues with the performance. It's good to have different options for different situations. I get that it's less than ideal for "typical" self-defense distances. I do think over-penetration with 5.56 NATO isn't much of an issue. It would be interesting to see how this load performs against light barriers if that penetration demonstrated in the clear gel test translates into very good barrier blind performance or not. If it doesn't perform well against light barriers as well as M855A1 or some barrier blind LE loads, then the penetration in the gel test is of no benefit.

too bad the Marines got conned into the "green" bullet bs. Mk318 Mod 0 with the lead core has better performance (not as much over penetration). Mod 1 has been noticeably more accurate for me though compared to Mod 0
The military is moving to lead free bullets because shooting millions of lead bullets into training areas that your troops have to live in is an issue.
The DoD had to spend billions cleaning up lead from their ranges. Lead leeches into the soil, ground water, water run off, plants, and animals. Plus compensation to victims of range lead.
