The fun thing about the singer's character in here, Cardinal Copia: he's supposed to be the totally socially awkward and inept guy who only gets super-competent once he's on stage to perform. This is one of the reasons he is so beloved amongst the fandom.
It's kind of funny, when Tobias was asked whether he was like the Papas he replied that he wasn't nearly as sociable as Copia.

It was indeed a dancer, but I DOUBT Tobias couldn't do those moves hahaha.
The mask is always an original model made specifically for him, but it's usually inspired by old actors/celebrities. Papa III mask was inspired by Bela Lugosi, for example. Cardinal Copia (this one in the video) definitely have a Vincent Price vibe to it.
All songs of Prequelle is about the black plague. This is obviously about the rats that spread the disease but for us that has listened much to Ghost we also find other meanings. Tobias released this album in 2018 and two years later Covid happened....
Rats was the first Ghost song I ever heard, and Ghost has been my favorite band ever since. Glad you loved it!

I just call them "Monster Rock", "horror Rock" or "ghoul metal". Or to sum it up, it's occult rock. If the Addams family made a band. That's what they would sound like.

The director of the video confirmed that the complicated dance moves were done by a double but that Toby, the lead singer, did do some of them himself
Edit: the mask is just of Toby, kind of. Each album, Toby takes on a persona called Papa Emeritus. The first three album were, obviously, Papa Emeritus I, II, and III, and after each cycle the character either dies or is forcibly replaced. For Prequelle, the album this song is on, the character was Cardinal Copia. Their newest album that came out this year, Copia was promoted to Papa Emeritus IV. There's a whole lore lmao

There was a 80s band called Ratt, they did Round and Round, which is there most known one (if I can vaguely remember it)
As expected. R/Ghostbc delivered. According to the Ghost en Espanol YT channel, it was mostly Tobias, but they did use a double for some of it.
Ok. The Ghouls and Ghoulettes have instructed me that it’s Cardinal Copia. There is no Tobias Forge in the video. They can get a little testy about acknowledging Forge. My bad.
Great reaction. One of the best things about Ghost is they are fun. Even though they sing about dark subjects, the vibe is more Scooby Doo than true evil. This song definitely mines the 80's (Dio/Ozzy lick), and some Queen/Def Leppard backing vocals, but the key part is they know the best bits to combine, and are masters and crafting great songs from them.

Once the water comes in to it, it's easier to see that the dancer isn't Tobias. The mask doesn't quite fit the dancer right. But since Tobias is naturally very lithe, it's easy to believe he's got those kinds of moves. He's got some, but not quite like that.
btw the mask is one of the characters whos canonically the singer of the band and the lead of the band in the lore is a position in their satanic church and they kill the lead ever so often and he gets replaced with a new guy from the church but irl its all the same guy in different masks

Ghost is fantastic, you need to watch their video shorts, Chapters 1 through 14. Tobias is hilarious along with Papa Nil, Sister Imperator and Mr. Saltarion.

No that's just his own iteration of Cardinal Copia. You want to see an amazing concert? Go to one of theirs. My brother is a musician and a band that is pretty good you talk and they plas the opening ax for a lot of top bands and he said it's 1 of his top 3 concerts hes ever been to. I got to see them 4 times in 1 year which was awesome. To buy us Ford writes the songs occasionally with a little help from his friends And he knows how to play all the instruments but he said he isn't that proficient on drums. You should listen to Faith and He Is and Cirice. Fantastic. Also Year Zero. I love Hunter's Moon but the studio version not the version from the Halloween flicks. Great videos. Monstrance Clock too!

If you're interested in these stuff, there's a pretty big "lore" in Ghost: There's this ancient satanic cult called "The Ministry", which wanted to spread the word of Satan in the most effective way available. In the late 60's/early 70's, since Rock music was on a global hype, they decided to spread the word that way, founding a rock band called Ghost. The lead singer would always have the title of "Papa" (which means pope). The first one was called Papa Nihil (the one we see earning the face paint and the white eye in 'Dance Macabre' video). Following the downfall of Rock, Ghost went in the shadows and was never seen again... until 2010, when the band suddenly reappears, now with a new lead singer: Papa Emeritus I (eldest son of Papa Nihil) releasing the first album (Opus Eponymous). After that, each album has a new frontman. That being said, we had Papa Emeritus II (younger brother of the previous one) in 'Infestissuman' (2013), Papa Emeritus III (youngest of the brothers) in 'Meliora' (2015) and then all 3 were mysteriously murdered, leaving the frontman spot open, but no more Nihil sons to fill in. Because of that, they were forced to, for the first time, use someone out of the bloodline, and, as so, he couldn't be called "papa". So we had Cardinal Copia for the 4th album ('Prequelle', 2018). Papa Nihil dies onstage and now, with the old leader dead, Sister Imperator (the woman we see initiating Nihil in 'Dance Macabre') promoted Cardinal Copia to papa, officially named Papa Emeritus IV and he was the frontman for the 5th and current album, "Impera', from 2022.
The music video for the song 'Kiss The Go Goat' (supposedly a song from the old days when the band was formed in the 60's) reveals us some details that fill some holes in the plot. Back then, Nihil and Imperator were lovers, but as he was becoming a rockstar, he was getting too much attention from his female fans and for that reason they broke up. Sister Imperator was pregnant at that time, but never told him. Now, in current days, she was actually the one who ordered all Nihil's sons to be killed, so she could point someone new to the role and that someone was Cardinal Copia, her and Nihil's bastard son. That way she got her revenge and at the same time could put his bastard son in his place of right, as papa and leader of the band.
Obviously, all that is just fiction and was being told and revealed to us slowly through the years by the band in all sorts of media (specially short lore videos they release on the band's UA-cam channel). The lead singer behind the mask (all of the masks), songwriter and creator of it all is Tobias Forge.
Albums are always conceptual too. The first 3 were 3 parts of a same story. 'Opus Eponymous' is about the annunciation of the Antichrist coming to Earth. Ends with the song 'Genesis', meaning his birth. The next record, 'Infestissuman', starts telling us the Antihrist announced before is the son of Lucifer and the album describes his first contact with mankind. Next one, 'Meliora', jumps in time and is about the relationship between him and men growing stronger and stronger, to the point we reach the absolute absence of God.
The next 2 had a new concept of their own. 'Prequelle' compared faith and blind beliefs to a plague, fast spreading and dangerous (having the Black Plague as the conceptual background). And finally, 'Impera' is about the mankind's fetish for power and how frail it is. It takes empires as an example, since every single one of them throughout history has risen and then fallen. Never failed and will never fail, so also modern empires, no matter how much they seem to be unbreakable, will eventually fall. It's just a matter of time.
Well... that's only the tip. The iceberg is way bigger. And I can tell by your reactions that you will dive in naturally. Hope you've been ghosted :P

@@UnfilteredRequests Just to clarify a bit - I'm a retired ballet dancer. In my estimation, it would take a talented adult roughly 5 years of dedicated training to pull off some of those moves reliably and with the good technique that the dancer in the video uses. I'm not saying that I don't think Tobias is up for the training, I just don't know if he'd do it just for one video. Though his legs ARE pretty built, like a dancer's...
Anyway, in an interview, Tobias said that he had a double in this video, for "the parts where he was standing still." I think we can safely assume that even though he's got some slick moves onstage, he was joking about what the double was on set for.
