Their theatrics cross over into the live shows like you would not believe. Amongst the absolute best we have ever seen live and one the of the few we see time and time again.
Cirice and Spillways are the two best examples of both modern sides of Ghost honestly.
Honestly though, Hunter's Moon and Square Hammer might be the best mixes of both sides!
I disagree. I'd say Call Me Little Sunshine is the best example right now.
Definitely show him more Ghost! Since he's more of a "heavy side" dude, try stuff like "Faith", "Little Sunshine", "Cirice", "Mummy Dust", "Ritual", "Twenties", "Kaiserion"...
And Ghost was more like a traditional band until the 2nd album. Although Tobias was always the main songwriter, there was contribution from some of the other members as they were a "static" lineup. After that, it became basically a one man band, where Tobias do absolutely everything and has a hired crew to perform live. The current lineup hasn't changed for a while, tho.
Poor suggestions, I would suggest things like Con Clavi Con Dio, Ritual, Elizabeth, Satan Prayer, Prime mover, Death Knell, Year Zero, Pinnacle to the pit, Absolution, Mummy Dust, Circe, Spirit. I think those songs have the heavier sound he’s looking for
@@VeilSideZ32 the other ones yeah, but id say ritual is on the lighter side
@@Chm388 hmm idk that main riff kicks in pretty good and the bridge before the first solo is pretty stiff for ghost material. I think its one of their best songs and def a worthwhile listen, its the softest out of these but it deserves its place there imo :)
@@VeilSideZ32 Oh its definitely
good, but yeah it is the softest
they've also often brought in other artists to help write, play, or produce songs. Two off the top of my head- Dave Grohl has a few credits across some of their earlier songs in writing, playing, and producing; Fredrik Åkesson of Opeth did all of the guitar writing and playing for the studio version of their latest album, Impera.
Ghost is helping save Rock and roll! More and more please.
If you look close enough you can tell when it's Tobias or a stand in dancer. Basically, if Copia is making big movements its the dancer, if he's relatively still it's Tobias. Once you pick that up youll notice the mask doesn't fit the dancer quite right, it's a bit large on the dancer.
Also, it's always good to remember that Tobias Forge loves loves loves ABBA.
From a metalhead: Cirice.
Love me some Ghost, but what I love most about them is their live performances. Sometimes their songs can fall a little bit flat on recording, but when you hear that same song live with the theatrics, it just hits so different. They are 100% a show, seen them live twice now and I can't wait to see them again. My favorite live band so far.
This is exactly how I feel about songs like Mummy Dust or From the Pinnacle to the Pit. I really don't care for the recorded versions, but when they're live, the energy is so contagious and electrifying.
@@cheyanne2951 Couldn't agree more. They put on an amazing performance.
I fell into the Ghost rabbit hole 18 months ago and haven’t looked back. Then went to my first ritual (concert) last year and it was worth every penny-by far the best show I’ve seen in a long time. Going to my second ritual later on this year and can’t wait…Ghost isn’t for everyone but do give them a chance!
I would definitely recommend checking Ghost out live. Killer show!
And yes. Tobias write everything but brings in session players for the studio and has a killer touring band.
Another fun video to check out is Trey Xavier's "How Ghost writes a song".
Call me little sunshine is a great song
Square Hammer from Ghost is Great, and the really new Song, Called Hunter's Moon :)
I went to their concert and this was one of the songs they performed the entire crowd was singing this particular song
If you're looking for something a bit heavier it would definitely be "Cirice" IMO. They're one of those bands I didn't get at first and this was the track really hooked me in. If you're a 70s horror movie fan you'll notice the nods between the theatrics, cinematography and sound.
You need to watch their shorts, I think they have chapters one through 14. They are absolutely hilarious.
Cardinal Copia be dancing like Fred Astaire.
Square Hammer next ?
React to Square Hammer or Call Me Little Sunshine from Ghost.
Spillways is good or If you want to see a twist on contemporary Christian music with a totally different spin, try "He Is".
Ritual. That’s the song that has hooked so many to this band.
SOOO many good songs. I only discovered Ghost a couple of months ago. I am now very inspired by them. After 'Impera' (the latest album) I have been working my way back through the older stuff. The dual guitars usually play in drop D (in drop C sometimes) which gives them the dark, heavy tones beloved of modern metal bands, but with much more memorable hooks. They defy being put into a genre because of the variety of hooks, melodies and vibes they shoehorn between dark and heavy riffs. And all done with a HUGE dose of fun - and some seriousness sometimes. Examples of other songs:
- 'Call Me Little Sunshine' is the first song I heard. Definitely heavy but with a cracking catchy dark chorus that will stay with you and is designed to haunt you.
- 'Mummy Dust' is a crazy, heavy ode to the god of Mammon (greed). Surprises you with a keyboard solo. And a strange but effective vocal.
- 'Spillways' is poppy and rocky but with a drop C guitar that really makes for a heavy backdrop, and some interesting key changes and brilliant solo.
- 'Griftwood' starts sounding like Van Halen but ends up with a massive hook-laden chorus.
- 'Respite On The Spitalfields' closes 'Impera' with an almost prog vibe.
- 'Imperium/Kaisarion' is like Iron Maiden and Yes with '80s rock thrown in. Oh, and elements of prog in general.
- The instrumental 'Helvetesfonster' ('Window to Hell' in Swedish) is very prog, almost like early Genesis. Gorgeous.
- 'Faith' is heavy. Beautifully so.
- 'Witch Image' (I just found this one!) is melodic, poppy, and grabs you in a quiet way, before hitting you with yet another massive memorable chorus.
- 'Cirice' is foreboding and evil, and builds into a fabulous heavy stomp.
- 'Square Hammer' is a loud pop/rock stomp with another hauntingly memorable chorus.
- 'He Is' is like the perfect anti-worship song. Change the words and any church would have it in a flash.
- 'Life Eternal' is a beautiful ballad that would sit well at any funeral. (I think it has been used as such.)
- 'From The Pinnacle To The Pit' begins with a massive bassline, is full of heavy riffs, but still has some melodic bridges. And why not?
- Mary On A Cross' is almost pure pop, for some reason set in 1969 (part of the band's lore!) and is just too catchy for words. Won't appeal to metal-heads, but it is still pure class.
I'm struggling to find a bad track. I'm an old guy of 63. I've been playing guitar since I was 15 and following prog and heavy rock bands and artists through the ages. I'm beginning to think that Tobias Forge is some kind of genius. He's carved out a very unique fun/dark/theatrical spot for his band. I haven't seen someone with so much vision and scope in many years - musically and conceptually. I will see them the first chance I get (I haven't yet, being new to them).
Been a fan for years. He is the mastermind behind the music. My favorites are Year Zero, Monstrous Clock, 20's. No one knew who he was for the longest time until former ghouls sued him and his name had to be put on the court documents. I'm 51 and still rocking.
Year Zero and Monstrance Clock were both written by Martin Persner ("Omega").
If you like those songs, definitely check out Martin's project Magna Carta Cartel.
Couldn't put it better!
Hell yes, huge Ghost fan here. This video always to me had that “70’s” feel to i thought.
Please react to Square Hammer.
Spillways, Griftwood, Hunters Moon, Kaisarion, Square Hammer, Twenties, Mary on a Cross, Bible, and Dance Macabre are my favs from Ghost. But there really isn’t much in the way of a bad song either
Before I recently found Ghost, I thought this kind of music was history 😭🙏🏻 I’m so fucking hooked!
Excellent Twin Guitars- Brilliant Chord Changes- Outstanding Dynamics- Heavy, Heavy Ending- Angelic Backing Chorus- Interesting Lyrics Referencing the Black Plague- BRILLIANT Drum Parts- start there fellas:) "I'm not sold" SERIOUSLY???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Cirice is a virtual riff factory. Try that one. Interesting factoid - Vocalist Tobias Forge plays all guitars and bass on the albums with the exception of a couple guest solo spots. He has a dedicated studio drummer and keyboardist and a separate touring band.
Ghost is basically a solo project for Tobias at this point. He often has help recording music and the band are basically hired musicians for touring and music videos, but creatively, I don’t think there's been any active contributions from anyone else since Ghost's third album, Meliora.
Meliora and Infesstissumam (the album before it) featured some songs written by one of the band's original Nameless Ghouls "Omega" (Martin Persner). And another Nameless Ghoul "Alpha" (Simon). Martin left in 2016 to go back to his original project Magna Carta Cartel. You can definitely tell that Martin contributed a lot to Ghost's earlier sound if you listen to MCC.
Simon had a falling out with Tobias not long after and started a different band.
Ghost is also a lore project. So I would check out some of the "episodes" that feature the band's characters in fictional, usually comedic scenarios.
Ghost is just so much fun, and the music rocks!
Saw them live earlier this year in Asheville NC and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Amazing live.
I've been following Ghost since their first show in Baltimore. It is absolutely imperative that you listen to Opus Eponymous (their first album). Songs: Con Clavi con Dio, Death Knell, Ritual, Elizabeth, Stand by Him.
For Halloween you probably should have done the video for Dance Macabre.
Prequelle has some good songs, but it is different from their earlier albums. It's kind of like what would happen if ABBA joined a satanic cult.
as a metalhead, i love ghost. they actually have a lot of great heavier songs!!
Griftwood, spillways, watcher in the skies
mary on a cross, griftwood, kaisaron, spillways, respite on the spitalfields, year zero, monstrance clock, kiss the go-goat
If you want heavier ghost
Mummy dust. Pinnacle to the Pit. Year Zero.
Square Hammer, Year Zero, they are fantastic the more you get into it. As someone who loves heavier metal. And yes Tobias writes the music and then has other musicians influence the sound to make it even stronger. He is a very talented man
Mary on a cross...Live in Tampa 2022!!!!.....Amazing vid 😜🥰🥰
On the Vin and Sori channel Sori asked "did he just call us christians rats?" Yes, he did! In a very light and fun way! 😂
i definitely dig Ghost for being different, that being said a heavier track called Faith would probably be better recieved.
I'd love for you guys to react to Square Hammer or Dance Macabre! Also I think you'd guys really dig Dread & Dream by Alyssa Day--she's an INCREDIBLE guitarist!
Someone described Ghost to me as "Scooby Doo" Metal... Which I can't unhear....
lets put it this way ..
with "Square Hammer" you pretty much get everyone into the boat
Love this video. Its basically just the devil Flash Dancing his way through the Apocalypse and its great.
Oh he’s sold. He just doesn’t know it yet.
Cirice and year zero need to be next.
this is the track that got me nto ghost. I liked the visuals the most, did a bit of research about the mask thing etc and listened to the toher music, at first cirice and then square hammer and so on. Love this Band now. :)
I actually always got more of an Ozzy Osbourne vibe from Ghost, tbf. Especially this song, it almost seems to follow a similar structure to like, Bark At the Moon, in a way. Call Me Little Sunshine, which is one of their newer tracks, it pretty cool too.
Year Zero.....From the Pinnacle to the Pit....Dance Macabre......nameless ghouls play the music but like Prince, Tobias makes all the music
Tobias does pretty much write all the songs.
Dance macabre was my wedding song. Love ghost
Year zero by Ghost. It's great. Heavy-ish and demonic.
Cirice, Kiss the Go-Goat, and Dance Macabre are definitely a few of my favorites!!
Square Hammer, Faith, Spillways, Ritual, Cirice are a few of my favorites…..they’re all good though
Love Vampira 😂 Devin is hilariously talented
He is amazing!
Faith, Monstrance Clock, Ritual, Zombie Queen/Ghuleh, He Is, Mummy Dust
Not an album track and honestly buried because of band member fallout, Zenith is an excellent track you can find on youtube. One of their best songs and almost impossible to find physical and isn't on streaming
Awesome! I love Ghost
NEMA
Love ghost. Tobias does all the writing and he hires his nameless ghouls when they tour. I seen them in 2013 when they were called ghost bc. Been a fan ever since
Aaaw a fallen :-( Thou knowest not what thy....)(%%( light...gargle..gasp
Skvaddernosse!
I LOVE Ghost so much. Hunter's Moon and the newest album has been my favorite so far. I think my absolute favorite thing I've heard people say about Ghost is that their music is like Scooby Doo chase music which is just so funny. I just love that they don't take themselves seriously and the lore behind the band. It's all just so much fun. Like you said, anyone can put on jeans and a tshirt and go play music. This band has a story and characters behind it and I believe that's the fun of it.
Call me little sunshine should be the next one imo.
Dance, Ratman, dance
Ghost is Tobias . He has help writing but it’s all him . The lore is the best part to me . There’s a few ghost iceberg videos if you really want to get all up in there
Tobias Forge is a genius!
I am totally the guy on the left. Seeing him listen to rats is me. Loved this.
Also. Tobias writes it all and plays a good amount of it in the studio, but uses musicians from time to time. The touring ghouls are separate (though I think there is crossover) and Ghost considers itself a touring band. I do recommend a live show. I hadn’t hear Ghost before September of this year (2022). They are squarely my favorite band now.
Haha. I couldn’t resist. Love the song ✌️
Still the best Ghoul costumes and masks from this era.
Watcher in the sky is a good one
If I'm not mistaken, the choreographed dance is based off The Rat/Mouse King's entrance in the Nutcracker.
Definitely do Square Hammer, Spillways.
Man guys you should do the "Bible" with the ghost its actually a cover from a Swedish punkband on the creation myth.
First time I saw ghost was when they were the first of 3 opening bands at a Motorhead concert. Been a fan ever since! 😈 Check out Square Hammer or Cirice. For an old school jam you can't go wrong with Satan Prayer ✌
i think were watching a new ghost fan being born. welcome! take the seat belt off and enjoy the ride. heres a few more: Spillways, Hunters Moon, Call Me Little Sunshine, Cirice, Square Hammer, Dance Macabre. i like the heavy (older and newer) stuff too like Analepsy, Behemoth, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Rings of Saturn ...etc, dont let that stop you from enjoying ghost. i know some people get hung up on genres i used to do that too. i mean if youre the kind of person that doesnt like rap (i dont like most of it), theres a harder style of rap that metal heads can enjoy called Horrorcore, groups like Twiztid are worth giving a listen imo. couple of their songs if interested: Rose Petal, Boogieman, We Dont Die, In Hell
I'll add From the Pinnacle to the Pit to the song suggestions
If you like this one, I recommend "Watcher in the Sky" from their newest album.
"Cirice"!
Love Ghost Cirice is my favourite song
To get a better understand of their vibe, you should definitely start from their debut album, Opus Eponymous. Songs like: Ritual, Stand by Him, Elizabeth and Prime Mover. Then from 2nd album: Year Zero (with the music video) and Secular Haze. From 3rd album: Mummy Dust, Cirice, He Is..
Pinnacle to the pit and Ritual
Ghost - Eternal life or Call me little sunshine
I really enjoy Ghost! I think my favourite songs would be Year Zero and Square Hammer. Also, the 'are they a band/are they session musicians' thing is something of a debate - the original ghouls believed they were a band, and tried to sue Tobias Forge for not giving them a fair portion of the bands profits, but he claimed they were always session musicians, and the case got thrown out... I believe now the ghouls are actually session musicians in a clearer sense.
is HE now? Butter ♫Black Phillip♪
Year zero is great. The live is the best versions.
@@derekk8523 ALL OF 'EM! ..really? You've seen tham all? WOOOOAAAUW ♥
@@dallesamllhals9161 my favorite version is hellfest 2016 of year zero.
@@derekk8523 But ain't that french? Åh-åh!(Oh-oh!)
Please do try Copenhell some day (NOT Roskilde = No Metal or even Rock left 😞)
I'll jump on the Cirice bandwagon. Just saw them in Bangor a few weeks ago, and it was one of the best concerts I've ever attended. This coming from someone who's seen Maiden 6 times, Metallica 5 times, Queensryche, Ozzy, Megadeth, and all the greats.
Oh wow! That’s amazing. This would be my next pick for Ron. I’ve seen Cirice. We will try! I’ve seen Metallica 4 times. It was glorious!!✌️
square hammer, Cirice, Little sunshine, Faith, Year zero, Ritual, ! plis guys!
Square Hammer or Cirice would be a good one's to check out.
Yes. He is one man ghost
Remind me a bit of BOC, Uriah Heep, '70's Alice Cooper, they do have a good sense of humor about it too, they know it's shock rock schtick but they can write a damn good song so it works
You should definitely check out the live Performance of "Call me little Sunshine" at Jimmy Kimmel! It's also visually stunning and a bit heavier that Rats, also it's from their newest Album "Impera"
React to as long as you're bloody by the Merkins
Yall should do Cirice next
Show him Year Zero, it's always a banger!
Show him Mummy dust live and little sunshine, He'll like it for sure. Rats is my fav ghost song!
Appreciate the suggestions! ✌️ Yes I’m a fan of Rats. It was a tough decision on what to start Ron on. Lol. I have Prequelle and enjoyed that album. Haven’t listened to anything new.
Year Zero
I feel like he would like more songs like 'Cirice' and 'Mummy Dust' from Ghost, maybe react to those next time.
If you want something a bit heavier i reccomend „Year Zero“ or „Mummy Dust“ :)
He might have liked Cirice or Mummy Dust more. From The Pinnacle To The Pit is also a good heavy song that is often overlooked.
Please react to "Bismark" by Sabaton
Ghost the best band of last decade, simple. 🔥
100% agree
You gotta do Cirice!!
Year Zero!
Not nearly enough people mention Year Zero if you want them to be heavy. People did a good job picking out some others, but for me that's quite clearly their most sinister song that perfectly matches the bands image. And on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, you could go for He Is.
As for being a one man band run by Tobias Forge.... I'd say probably, yeah. He seems to have a steady group he tours with the past several years, but he seems to be the primary creative force, and will use different musicians for the in studio stuff. Opeth's Fredrik Åkesson played for at let one song (I think it was multiple) on their most recent album. So Fred might come up with the solo for the song, but in general, the song is Forge's creation.
Additionally I think its been said that Dave Grohl once filled in for drums at a live show. I feel like that can be a fun thing to think about, to have such a special guest like that but you never had any idea because he was in an anonymous costume the entire time. Who knows how many others there may have been!
Gotta show him Cirice next!
Seeing as Tobias came up with the moniker of Dead Astaire for this video, that at the very least ought to nudge thought to the wit of what Ghost _is_
