    One question I forgot to answer is how fast the red fades/how I keep it lasting. Since my hair is red/hennaed underneath, the red seems to stick around a lot longer on me! It DOES fade quite quickly, but I have the help from henna to keep it somewhat vibrant.

    Thats true I also wash my hair once a week and my hair is Thick with volume. it is because our scalp release protein which is good for hair and if we wash hair everyday it damage our hair and does not let our hair to take an advantage of the protien our skin release by itself without applying any additional home remedy!

    Treat your body like you would a friend!!! What great advice. Thanks for letting me know this went up, I'm stoked you talked us through all of this, I am seriously considering Henna (I am in a constant quest to keep my hair dark) I'll have to look into it more!
    Also, have you considered doing the "no-poo" method of washing your hair? Its like, an apple cider vinegar rinse or something. Or cleansing conditioners, I like those too - I have pretty oily hair and the cleansing conditioners do a nice job of cleaning without stripping OR making too oily.
    You da best boo!

    Growing up I washed my hair daily and sometimes twice. My hair is just at my butt now and it's the healthiest it's ever been. I wash it maybe once a week and more often less. The less I wash the better it feels and grows :) it was a hard transition but your hair will change. My hair went from being oily (from over washing) to more natural and just feels stronger.

    I love henna so much! Especially for my super dark, near black hair, because it brings out all of the color and shine in it, but the SMELL. I buy my henna from a Turkish market, so I don't know if American brand henna would smell any different, but my henna KNOCKS ME OUT with the scent. Anyway, I love this video because your hair >>> and hopefully you're getting more frequent with posting!!!

    I had no idea ion discontinued orange!
    Ion was my stuff in the past but it fades & I don’t like the smell anymore. But it’s generally not a terrible dye!
    I’m finally now going to henna now that my bleached hair has grown out (aside from some highlights I put in more recently).

  • @abclex97

    What henna brand did you use? And omg I have been through almost everything you have gone through. I have cut my hair short and got bangs, still growing it out btw also not a great idea honestly i have never been good at styling my hair and my hair texture is wavy and i have really thick puffy hair, well anyways i then bleached the utter shit out of it I then dyed my hair purple after I got tired of that I dyed it black and that eventually faded it was just a cover up to growing out as much as the bad bleach dye now I have mid length hair half is my natural hair the rest is still dry and brittle from the bleach. Though my natural hair has grown out it still looks dull I was hoping since I heard a lot of good things about henna that it would help my hair. What do you think or suggest I do? Should I cut of as much as the damaged hair or leave it I really don't want to make my hair shorter and since my hair is wavy and puffs up, I wouldn't want to use any more heat on my hair. Please shed some advice or tips 🙏❤

    Oh man, I would kill to go ten days without washing my hair, but we have opposite hair types. I totally feel you with the hair vs makeup, I'll spend forever on my makeup, but if it takes more than fifteen minutes max to do something in my hair never going to happen.
    Also, I'd love to see snaps of what you've been eating now that you love veggies. I am trying to clean up what I eat to fix a health issue without meds and most of all the ideas I find online are either to high in refined carbs or low fat, boo.

      I will send more food snaps! A couple nights ago I roasted a big pan of broccoli and mushrooms and put it on some homemade gluten free pizza crust and made pizza, not THE healthiest but MUCH better than anything store bought. All organic, wholesome ingredients! I ate the leftover vegetables for lunch today straight out of the fridge, but they would be great in an omelette or frittata! If you start with roasting two big sheet pans of vegetables (any combination of mushrooms, broccoli, onions, red bell peppers, cauliflower, squash if it's in season, zucchini/yellow squash is ok, but has more water content), you can do SO much. They make a great side, omelettes, pizza toppings, you can put them in lasagna (zucchini as noodles or rice noodles), so many options! I also like to keep a giant box of lettuce in the fridge and make salads with a simple vinaigrette if I'm having an "I'm not hunger but I just want food in my mouth" moment.

    Would love a video about how you eat, I'm on my way to gaining control of my E.D again after a huge weightgain, but I even though i stopped overeating I feel stuck in the bad habits(eating waay to much white bread and pasta, not nearly enough fruits and veggies) I'm so tired if feeling lethargic but I can't seem to get out of it.. I also want to grow my hair long bc I feel like that's something that will make me..more me. My hair used to be down to my lower back but that was before my e.d. kicked into high gear. Really liked the video btw :)

    I love using low poo and no poo methods. but the only no poo methods I use are rinses, egg washes and sugar scalp scrubs. I love the convenience of low poo so I plan on sticking with it instead of trying to figure out the right no poo method since it's time consuming and one transition period was bad enough lol

    Your hair sounds like mine!! Laughing at how similar your hair story is lol. Biggest difference is that I went for bright red streaks instead of all-over red, and I'm a natural brunette. And I totally switched over to completely natural haircare. Otherwise, it's pretty much the same right down to the growing bangs out because of styling issues :P It's hilarious to me. The anorexia issue is serious, of course, but the parts you shared before that are like you took my hair timeline and made a video about it.

    My hair was red when I was born as well. As I grew, it turned a light brown(almost dirty blonde) with gold and red all through it. I still have a streak through the middle of my head of red hair. I have been tempted in the past to Henna my hair, but The permanence is what scares me. I like my current hair color. It changes lighter/darker with the seasons. I think I just get bored every now and then.

    I haven't had a chance to watch the entire video yet but I looked at the "short version" at the blogspot. Your hair is gorgeous as are you. My question is how did you transition from using henna to using a regular hair dye? Stylists are telling me that it could break my hair or cause a weird color (like blue or green). One stylist said that even if I just had the roots dyed the area where it overlapped onto the hair that had henna on it could actually start smoking and break off. (She called it a "chemical hair cut".) How did you manage to use a dye over henna without anything bad happening? Thanks.

    • @jomakerofways
      @jomakerofways  6 років тому

      Henna will only do that to your hair if you use henna that is not 100% pure body art quality. Some "henna" products contain other chemicals, which are what can cause the reaction with normal hair dye. Since my henna was BAQ, I had zero problems and just used the Ion dye all over my hair. Double check your henna brand and ingredients to see if you're dealing with not-legit henna with added chemicals, and if you're unsure, ALWAYS strand test.

    Dude we're hair twins! Thick and curly but gets straighter now that it's really long, and tangles into this birds nest unless I slather it in oil haha. It's naturally auburn but I've been using BAQ Henna for the past 2yrs. Love it, but its time to give it some oomph and add more red. Did you put the Ion product straight on top of the henna, or lighten it first? (Sorry if I missed this in the vid.) I can't find much info on the web about dyeing hair after henna, except people saying not to do it… Advice?

    • @jomakerofways
      @jomakerofways  9 років тому

      TheAdventureLady If you used BAQ henna, you should be safe to use the Ion stuff directly over it! That's what I did, minus the part I bleached for other reasons. ALWAYS strand test when it comes to henna though! Better safe than sorry!

    I recently dyed my hair with henna and i love the color but eventually its gonna grow out and i dont want to dye it all again if it is going to make it darker. Instead i just might do the roots, but if it does fade then i might as well do it all then.

    My hair are brown, i have tried to make them red with henna but it did not work! They just became slightly red
    i was thinking that the reason was because my hair are very long and i did not put enough henna! (i used 100 gr)
    i was thinking to use 200 gr next time.
    Do u have any tip?
    thank you so much!

      Yeah, if you have long hair you'll probably want to use a lot more than 100 grams. Also, unless your hair is very light brown, you're not going to get vibrant bright red. The henna only adds red to whatever you have as a base, so if it's medium brown, you'll get auburn, if it's blonde, you'll get orange-red.

    Hi! I love your video :) new sub. I just have 2 questions about henna. First off, if I want to deepen the color as fast as I can, how much time do I have to wait in between applications? Hours? Days? Weeks? I have no idea. Also I really want to have dark auburn hair, and I currently have a medium/dark brown hair. Will it be hard for me to get really red? Thanks :p

      @jomakerofways  8 років тому

      Well, what color do you want to end up with? Dark auburn? If that's what you want, probably one application of henna will do it if you're starting out with medium/dark brown hair. However, you also mentioned "really red", so how red are you wanting to go? If you want your hair to be any lighter or brighter, whether with henna or normal dye, you're going to have to lighten your current hair color first. It just depends on what you want =)

      +coffee_pls thanks :) I just did it last night and I love how my hair turned out. It looks like a really natural dark auburn. I'm not going to do another coat, I'm just going to do root touch ups every once in a while

    I currently have a pixie undercut because my hair is so thick an oily. However, I do occasionally miss my long hair. I've been getting bored and want to grow out my pixie maybe? From your history it doesn't seem like you have much experience in this, but you are very knowledgeable. So... any tips on getting through the weird lengths that happen when growing out a pixie?
    The worst is when I end up with a mullet after a few months.

      Oh man, I don't know if I can help you there. The shortest I've ever had my hair was in 2011, the photo shown at 6:48. If it were me I would try to find a fun way to style it? I have a friend who is growing hers out and she wears a lot of scarves right now and it's super cute.

      Ooooh! I hadn't thought about scarves to help hide the growing. Thanks!
      Any tips on managing thick, oily hair when I do gain some length?

    • @jomakerofways
      @jomakerofways  9 років тому

      Bri P The theory is that even thick, oily hair can benefit by minimal shampooing, like once a week or longer in between. But it's hard to get through the stage of your hair just being oily until it adapts! I When I had blunt bangs, my hair was much oilier it seemed, and when I stopped shampooing often it was a little intense at first. But when I started growing them out and let my hair adapt, it was awesome! I do have naturally dry hair, though, so it would be more trial and error for you. I would google some stuff about it since I'm not the best resource for naturally oily hair!

    Okay, so Ive dyed my hair with light brown henna twice. I read that overtime you dye your hair with henna, it gets darker. Is that true? Also, I just dyed my hair with red henna and the top turned out fine but the bottom is dark, almost brown. Is there any way I can brighten up my results to get a bright red color with henna?

    • @jomakerofways
      @jomakerofways  8 років тому

      +Beccah Belle I discuss this in the video! Henna will get darker as it builds up. If you get henna that claims to be "brown" it's not 100% henna. Henna contains a chemical called lawsone, and it's RED. The results depend on the color of hair you start with. If you have white blonde hair, real henna will make it bright orange red. If you start with light brown or dark brown hair, you'll end up with darker red or auburn. No matter what, the henna builds layers and will appear darker each time you do it. The only way to get it brighter or more vivid would be to start with lighter hair. be VERY careful when you've used henna that's "light brown" or not 100% body art quality, because if you use lighteners after that it could react poorly with the chemicals that were in your "henna". Always strand test, and do your research. I ended up using Ion over my henna for that brightness, and that's what I've stuck with for that reason. It gives me the vividness I want, and it looks nice because my natural hair is auburn. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions, and make sure you look in the descriptions and use the timestamps to skip to the parts of the video that are relevant to your questions =)

    Amazing color not too red. Love it
    Question: If I had black hair, the henna wouldn't be enough to make it red, right?

    • @meinkanta
      @meinkanta 9 років тому

      Correct. Henna cannot lighten hair, instead stains over the base colour of your hair. It would certainly give it a red cast in the light, but would look black mostly.

    • @jomakerofways
      @jomakerofways  9 років тому +2

      princeicio Yep, Henna doesn't lighten at all. It's a stain! If you start with pure white hair, it will dye it orange/red. If you start with dirty blonde, it will be vibrant deep red. If you start with dark brown or black, it will just give it a red cast in the sun light.

    How do you sleep with your hair? Do you tie it in a bun or braid it or what?

    Hi! I've been using henna for over 7 years but I noticed it's gotten darker...i want to start using lighter hair color (Olia from Garnier) this product has no Ammonia so it's much safer than other regular hair dyes because it's 60% oil based. However, I've been told that in order to do that I must use chemicals to remove Henna so the new color can be effective. I am afraid to damage my hair if I do this, what's your opinion about this?

    • @jomakerofways
      @jomakerofways  7 років тому +1

      If you want your hair to be lighter, you'll definitely have to either wait until the hennaed part grows out, or lighten it somehow. You need to be really careful about how you do it, because chemicals can react badly with each other and mess up your hair. If you used body art quality henna, it probably wouldn't be a problem, but I would recommend going to a professional and showing them EXACTLY what you've been using henna wise and get their advice. :)

      @coffee_pls Thank you so much for replying so quickly!! :) I am gonna have to go to a professional because I can't stand the outgrowing process but before heading on that direction I was thinking to apply olive oil leave it over night and wash it in the morning with a harsh shampoo and after 6 applications it'll lighten up...i am completely against chemicals that's why i am in search of "natural" method.

    • @jomakerofways
      @jomakerofways  7 років тому

      It's worth a shot, but you're probably going to be hard pressed to lighten it much at all without chemicals, especially with henna involved! Best of luck though!

    I went on to dying my hair for the first time with actual hair dye after few years of out growing my henna died hair. Used the ion brilliance hair dye in purple. HUGE disappointment. my hair looked like a raccoon. Ended up dying my hair with olia hair dye and it was amazing. I always prefer the ammonia free. the ion brilliance was just shit. and never again trying that. i had even bleached my hair to the appropriate level to get the colour too but it turned out horrible.

    Awesome Job with the table of contents. You allowed us to take what we want from your message. I hate watching these videos where the intro goes on and on and on and you just get so sick of listening to someone talk about NOTHING...... if I could suggest one thing to anyone on these tutorials... It would be to make it short and sweet... too much blah blah blah is just annoying. Great job!
