Hi 52 years ago when I lived in Hawaii at Navy station and Mr.Merle Haggard had a concert first time I listen to country western music and since that I have a big fun of the him and I am 72 years old and sure I miss good country music.thanks
i absolutely get what you're saying ! Effortlessly is the perfect word for what everyone on this stage is doing except Paycheck (bless his heart) he looks to be swimming up stream 😆😝🤣 just kidding Johnny, i know you can play every instrument on that stage as good or better than all of'em
Paycheck was real and raw🔥 that's why Merle was a fan just as much as his friend 🔥 depends on the day or mood for me though, some days Johnny paycheck is the only thing that'll do 🤘
@PAULEYBOY84 paycheck could not blow haggard out of the water. Wtf is wrong with you? They was both great. Songwriting comparison? Paycheck isn't even in the same universe as haggard.
Wow, and if Willie is 90 now, it means the others are in or close to being in their 80's....and still have such awesone voices. God Bless and keep them well for many more years. I love every one of these wonderful Artists....always have, always will..💟💟💟💟💟💟💟
Those old boys could tell a story in a song. Most of them were relating a piece of their own life's story. Experience is still the best teacher, and inspiration. A lost talent, based on most of what they're callin' country music today.
Merle knew how to put on a concert!! He would engage the crowd and everyone had a great time. His concerts were worth the time and money. I loved Merle's band. He had the best there was out there. His sons are now carrying on his legacy. R. I. P. Merle.

Merle was good friends with some of our family, I was invited to go but my wife at the time raised hell, so I didn't go. I should had left that bitty and went. Major regret for sure. I've been divorced from that bitty for 19 years now. LOL. My Dad has been gone 11 years now. I sure wished I spent that Christmas eve. Who in the hell would ever think Merle Haggard would be in Traphill NC anytime more or less Christmas. Legends like Merle and my Dad is Surely Missed.
That rendition of "I Think I'll Just Stay Here And Drink" is the most badass thing on country music. Merle and Willie's solos and that harmonica player with a cigarette on his hand. Just perfect.
Peak performance from Merle Haggard. I’ve not seen any other performances where he sounds better than this, nor any recording. Terrific ! Willie looks at him in awe at him at one point, then steals a guitar to properly get involved in the jam.

I have not ever heard a bad song. I've seen him perform in my my birthplace, on a small wooden platform, in West Grove Pa. So very fine. Thanks for the memory. R.I.P.
My family in the 60s grew up with Don Reno and he was a singer. His son Ronnie is out there and played with many of the finest ever. It was great to see him on a video with Merle Haggard.
Don Reno was one of the greatest banjo players ever. My dad Raymond Fairchild incorporated a lot of Don's licks in his own banjo playing. Ronnie Reno is a great guy.

What a vibe on the stage and stadium is burning. These real country kings are changing the rules of living. After many years we feel them in our blood. Are the good times really over? No, as long as we have these song and videos, the good times will never end...
Thank God we have these videos of consummate country artists to watch and listen to...as a reminder of what country music used to be. And so many of them are now gone.
Ricardo, most of musicians who made these great songs are long dead (Johnny P. in 2003, Merle in 2016), Willie is still going at 88 (2021) though. You and I have the same chances of enjoying them now on our computers. Dig in - there's hundreds of good ol' songs by the good ol' boys.

Your Dad is still very much revered!! Been studying his licks since I was 16!! ha ha ha while other classmates were learning Metallica and Van Halen i was geekin out over your father. Was working On his 'no hard time blue's' solo just the other day. I remember when I bought this video in the early 2000's it was almost a religious experience to see what part of the fretboard he was getting those licks!! 🙄
Nicholsd64 9 years ago. Wow The whole Merle and Strangers deal was so pro and classy. Must have been something watching it unfold real-time. I had tickets to Merle three times in the eighties (New England area) but it happened that he developed one of his ‘medical’ issues each show and the shows were canceled because he needed to sleep it off I mean recover. I really wanted to experience a live show but I never did
it's a small world - me and my friend since '82 have always wondered about "will" and just found out together watching this vid - and yea we replayed the come on will part over and over on a cassette tape.
It 's great to see Merle beltin' it out in this huge stadium, he had one of the best voices ever but he always kept things on the down low and laid back. He energized the crowd by givin' it up the way he did here. You could see he realized what was happening and made sure his fans got their hard earned money's worth
Well, I learned something today. I have been listening to this album since it came out years ago. We used to rewind that "Come on Will" part over and over again just listening to Merle call on Will. Until right now I had no idea he was calling on Willie Nelson. My friends and I have always talked about what an awesome concert that was and how we wished we could have been there. It is really awesome to sit here 35 years later and watch videos of it. Thanks for posting.
tjdinfl I have often thought where I was around that time ...nowhere near Anaheim...but would have loved seeing the concert...what a way to end a concert with these 3 songs and with Merle introducing Willie..er, Will, and Johnny Paycheck...my favorite version ever of Sing Me Back Home...
I'm in the same boat, I've listened to this album since it came out and always thought "Will" was a band member until I saw this. My dad had this album and though we had very different taste in music we both loved Merle as did my grandfather. He was hands down the best there has ever been and he never sounded better than he did singing "Sing me back home" at this concert. I get choked up every time I here it even after all these years. RIP HAG!
Greetings from a Norwegian classic country lover for life here! I also enjoy George, Waylon, Merle, cash, Hank Williams (everyone except the shit coming from Nashville today) while driving, it makes the trip a lot less boring just jamming to their music
IT will never be any better than this, may god take care of all the good old country singers that have gone to the other place we shall meet once again.God bless you all.amen.
Talent is everlasting and I appreciate all talent. I was born in 1953 but I appreciate and listen to Classical, Jazz, soul, 20's and 30's etc. and of course classic rock of the 50's to the present...some not so much! Talent is an appreciable talent if the listener is a lover of music and tone and the conference of emotion and it's determined by your upbringing, living environment and frame of mind !
Loved The Mr Merle Haggard since I was A little bitty Girl in the Holler Of Hurley, VA. .Still Do. Always WILL. .. This Man Was Amazing To this Gazing Girl.
My duet with Johnny Paycheck was a Country Christian song called "I Love My Jesus" written by Terry Parkerson released on Air Records for radio airplay only. It's purpose was to get me noticed by the industry and signed to a recording contract. You can find the song on UA-cam but there is another Robert Hampton that also shows up so add Paycheck to my name in the search.
@Frank Roth It did help me in some ways. I was being talked about all over Nashville, music industry people were asking who is this Robert Hampton that's recording with Paycheck. They were told "He must be somebody or he wouldn't be recording with PayCheck." I was in the process of talking with a record label owned by Vision Television Network out of Conway Twitty's Twitty City. But then they had a 10 million dollar embezzlement that derailed that. Also a couple others expressed interest but turned out to be a big money game. I did get to sing with the first runner up to Miss America Miss Georgia Kara Martin and on live TV and at the Crystal Cathedral. But I came home to Oregon because of an evil greedy person and I'm glad I did. It's a cut throat business.
After all these years in 2023 is anyone still listening to this ?? True legends country...

It
's great to see Merle beltin' it out in this huge stadium, he had one of the best voices ever but he always kept things on the down low and laid back. He energized the crowd by givin' it up the way he did here. You could see he realized what was happening and made sure his fans got their hard earned money's worth
Love, Love,Love!! Thanks for my memories!!♥️
RIP HAG!

This was Merle at his absolute peak.
So nice to hear folks sing words that are pleasan to my old ears
Loved The Mr Merle Haggard since I was A little bitty Girl in the Holler Of Hurley, VA. .Still Do. Always WILL. .. This Man Was Amazing To this Gazing Girl.
I recorded a duet with Johnny PayCheck in 1992 and I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for posting it.
