Casey your videos are very helpful. thankyou. I have a request please make videos to tell us how you start a blog and how you manage it. I mean the complete process of starting a niche blog and putting content on it and managing it.
Thanks Casey, I am happy I started other sites as my main site was hit badly by the HCU, harder to manage more sites and my clients aswell though! The work certainly starts adding up.
Thanks for watching! This is definitely the struggle! Generally diversification pays off but it can be a ton of extra work. But I’m glad it’s worked for you! It’s played a major role in my own long term survival as a successful site operator, so while I don’t recommend it to most people, I wanted to at least cover the topic as it is an option that can work (would seem hypocritical to tell all bloggers to stick to one site when I run so many 😂).
@@CaseyBotticello Yes, well I did focus only on one site for the first 2/3 years which I don't think is bad advice. But there comes a point when more sites make more sense. I think you really need to get your writing to a good level before moving on.
This guide brilliantly explains the concept and its numerous benefits. Building a diversified niche portfolio for maximum impact and success-count me in! 🚀 #DigitalStrategy #NicheSitePortfolio" thanks Casey
Thanks for posting this valuable video an I really appreciate that. Do you think its profitable to start a niche site or blog these days in the age of AI and when competition is fierce? Do you think that people still read blogs or moving towards video based content?
If you take a look at my “ai blog case study” video, you’ll see that I do use ai tools in my writing. But I basically rewrite a substantial amount of the content. So I do think you can still make money with a traditional blog, but I’d suggest looking for ways to leverage ai writing tools to increase your content production.
Good question! If there is some mixture of monetization models employed across the sites (display ads, affiliate, subscription services, info product, etc.) I would say 3-5 sites is ideal. If the sites are all in the same niche and have the same monetization model, it may be hard to ever be truly diversified. But for me personally, when it comes to display ad driven content sites, my goal was always to have 5-7 sites generating meaningful amounts of money. I have 5 on MV/Raptive (with another approaching this threshold). I’d still like to add more long term but I feel that 7 across premium ad networks would be ideal. I also have sites growing where I don’t have ads in order to let them grow faster, or they are on Adsense, and a few have other monetization models. But these generate a small percentage of my current portfolio income.
It depends on your goals and risk tolerance. Niche sites in general are risky right now (if they rely upon organic search traffic). But if you plan to drive traffic another way (social media marketing, email, etc.) it is definitely less risky. I’m still launching new sites just this month so I think the payout potential is worth it personally.
Since the March updates, the sites have had mixed results (and things are still moving around). But currently it seems about half are down slightly or are basically flat, 25% were hit hard, 25% are up to varying degrees. Definitely glad I had a portfolio vs a single site 😅
I've been struggling to choose a niche for my blog, but after watching this video, I feel much more confident in making a decision. Thank you!
You can do it!

I also worked on a single site for a few years before expanding my portfolio, so I completely agree!

blog writers vs AI - What do you think ?
Bloggers leveraging AI tools ftw

Would you say that a portfolio of 5 is the minimum amount of sites to have diversification?

Is it still worth starting a niche site portfolio from scratch in the 2nd half of 2024?
