Really good video DB as always... That front end will be perfect pal the parts sat on the bench look really smart. I like to do loads of little jobs like this as you have a real sense of achievement :)
Great video, regards the brake discs dried stored or not you will get some corrosion. Stick them in a plastic box with some cat litter in a sock that should keep them 'almost' rust free....Nice job refurbing the callipers....Red is for winners.....
Yeah i the last ones came through the subrame without splitting the cv but the new ones are slightly wider so i split the inner pot to get them back in. I Cover that in the next vid.
I tend to time lapse the stuff I wouldn't watch in real time. I don't think there is great benefit to be gained by watching bolts being removed by hand if already explained. I need to get better at explaining like you do, always good detail . Keep it up
Thanks Adam. Its hard sometimes when editing knowing what to show or what to timelapse because different people like different things but then thats just life. Hope to see you at Bingley hall next week
Hi DB, great videos and really helpful as im restoring my 87 atm. Stupid question for you! At 4.28 on the video you are working on your brake caliper. In the bottom right of the caliper is a bolt. Can you please tell me where i can buy the bolt from / what size it is? Its not included on the minispares or moss catalogue as far as i can tell. Its the only part i havent been able to buy new and the old ones are rounded so cant be put back in. Thanks
The part on the video that you are seeing ( i think) is a new brake bleed nipple, is that the part you mean or is it the 2 bolts that attach the two halves of the caliper together that you are looking for
Great vid DB.. Great explanations. Can I ask, are the brake shields essential? When stripping my Mini one side had one and the other didn't. I am just about ready to put everything I have restored back on the car and haven't purchased them yet. What do you think?
Got to admit what you achieve with one good arm makes me ashamed of the little I achieve with two. Respects! And do you and Sean C collaborate on the music - Top Notch. But just one observation if I may? @ 06:35 you paint over the bolt heads? This touches on an argument I had with a guy when I was restoring a Scania 143-500 tractor unit some years ago. He said to bolt the chassis together and paint it. My view was why bother stripping it all out if it will look like a cheap blowover afterwards. Happily the owner agreed with me and said to paint then bolt so all the new cad plated bolts and the hours of work could be seen. And that is what we did. My point being that all that detailed correct work you just did on the caliper is now hidden and you could just as well have painted a caliper with no work done. You do a great job mate so let people know and appreciate it. Take those bolts out and put new cad plated ones in.... Better still add a nice detail and get racing drilled bolts and add safety wiring.
Initially i wasn't't gonna paint them and then when they were on they didn't do it justice. Probably because i didn't order new ones but wouldn't take too much to replace them and you are right they would look good. I'm a child of the 80s so you will be seeing more 80s tunes in future vids. Can't beat it. Thanks for the comments. Its appreciated
Ah cool thanks. Just I was tempted by a pair of vented discs up in Norwich but realised they needed 13" wheels and I want to keep to whatever period options were available in '78 so got the 8.4" ones....
Well Noah was a part finished project and had subframes with rear running gear and front suspension but no front brakes and driveshafts (amongst many other missing parts like an engine / gearbox). But I did look back and saw 12" wheels were an option so I hope the 8.4" won't look out of place even if not 'correct'.
Mick Hucknall rocks!! dang good sounds bud, being a 72 baby yer right in my mix tape there bud, you keep filmin an we'll keep watchin. cheers bud.
Thanks Doug. Appreciated mate

Cheers Alex. It does feel good knowing every part has been stripped and rebuilt
Good job ! Timelapse is brilliant
Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it 😀
Great vid pal , lovin the music OMD top band from the 80 s 👍🏻👍🏻👋🏻👴👋🏻👴👋🏻teamslaphead
I love the 80s music. Plenty more where that came from
Superb update DB, the picture and audio is spot on the dot mate :)
Cheers mate. It was hard for me to judge soundwise because i don't like listening to my own voice anyway

Better add you don't need to buy a cat...
Thanks Malcolm. Good tip. Don't think the dog would be best pleased if i added a cat to the family lol
Good effort so far. Remember you'll have to split the CVs to get them through the subframe.

The video quality is fantastic.
Thanks Stewart I am really pleased with the camera
Cant wait till im at this stage! Got a fair bit of work to go yet though
You will be finished before me Ben. You are getting a good run at yours just now
DB Mini DIY hmm, we will have to see about that haha

They stop dirt and grit getting onto the discs and then caught between the pads and discs so yeah they should be replaced

Hi DB, what is the new camera your using?
It is a crosstour ct7000 action cam
Silly question: are those 8.4" discs and calipers for 12" wheels or do they need 13" wheels. Its the job I am doing on Noah now
8.4 discs. They are for both 12 and 13" wheels
Ah cool thanks. Just I was tempted by a pair of vented discs up in Norwich but realised they needed 13" wheels and I want to keep to whatever period options were available in '78 so got the 8.4" ones....
78 would be 10" wheels and 7.5" discs as standard unless you have upgraded
