“What other car in this price range can match this charging speed and this range?”… THAT is precisely what other automakers seem NOT to understand. I was checking out the KIA EV3 as a second EV (to replace the Zoe and its expensive rental battery), but when a car gets to the “magic” 40k euros threshold, the obvious choice is the Model 3 RWD.
I´d take a look at Cupra Born too. Its a nice car tbh.

The Model 3 is still the best in its class and benchmark - great to see how it works! Also that the interior is a major upgrade .

@@Beamer_i4_M50it's still far from perfect. But WAY better over the last 2 months .
@@Beamer_i4_M50 nice dramatism beamer fan
@@Beamer_i4_M50100% agreed. On our Model Why?!? they keep coming on to streak up the windshield with bugs in the summer and saltz schmutz in the winter, and yet often don't come on for pouring rain. The worst is that it automatically re-enables itself every time you dare to engage the phantom braking plagued cruise control. I absolutely love everything else about the car, but that software bit is proper maddening.
Had my model 3HSR (1st EV) for 10 months, just got back from a 6000 klm trip, from Spain, through France, to Edinbough, Wales, and back to Spain. Going always at max speed of road, i.e in France 130kph, with 3 adults and 2 children and trunk and frunk stuffed full. yet still average for whole trip 136 wh/km (7.35 km/Kwh) (4.6 M/Kwh) I am super impressed with it.
Amazing you realesed this video now. I will get my Tesla 3 Highland LR next week and I just got so excited for it now.
Me too! Congrats!
I have a 2020 M3 LR and I have to say that the e-premacy tires make a big difference. I had pilot sport tires when the car was new, they were great, the car was on rails but the e-premacy increased the range by at least 10% and are a lot quieter; even if the car is older now and for sure the battery has some sort of degradation (it can't be as new, is a matter of fact) I can do much longer drives now. Some journeys that required a stop 4 years ago are now an easy no stop.
these are 18 inch wheels in excel you put 19.
The new aero wheels look soooo much better than the ones they had in the past!
RWD is the biggest price deal if you are ok "only" with RWD and "only" 200kW 👍
Oh man, I waited for you to test this car soooo looong
I hope you do a range test with a Model 3 Performance Highland as well! 😊
"It travels through the air like butter through cheese". (Like a hot knife through butter??)
Its a joke and a meme, u new here?😄
Following your channel is getting expensive - first I got a Model Y P, and now a Model 3 LR like this one… Would be nice for my economy if you focus on toy cars and bicycles from now, and I would also love to see a nynorsk-channel!😎😅
Will you be doing a sunday drive-video with the LR? Would be interesting to see if it performs as good as the RWD did😊
So it's better you don't check the review of the ID7, Audi Q6 or even worse, Mercedes EQS.
Only because of heir headlights or flat charging curve, Bjørn would prefer those than any Tesla 😅
Thanks for video. Just a note: your excel lists this test at 19 inch not 18 wheels.
Thanks. It has been corrected now.
Its cool man just a detail. Its not like 19 inch would be a great difference. I can only assume the new LR RWD would put another 50-80 km on top. Its crazy how tesla mops the floor on efficiency. If only they could improve a little on the actual driving the car experience...
Model 3 Highland is such an awesome car
Thank you for testing the model 3 lr highland with the long range tires configuration.
Somehow, this shape reminds the famous Pontiac from Knight Ride.
I loved that car during my childhood.
So, from Bjørn's tests, I consider that Tesla still kick asses for the Lord (not only efficiency wise but also aesthetics), in spite of all the chinese efforts.
When TB speaks Thai I‘m able to understand CLEARLY and ANY word! That is so magic 😅
Tesla software is so refreshing. I was reviewing your spreadsheet and BMW i4 eDrive 40 is doing quite well compared to the 3 LR AWD, great job BMW. I can't wait to see their new platforms, they are almost keeping up with Tesla with 134 Wh/km vs 123 Wh/km, but only RWD model on the BMW side, so they have some work to do.
Hi Bjørn, can’t wait for the Juniper. Best regards Martin
Tesla autopilot is only the best as long as you don't wanna change lanes often like you typically don't do that much in Norway. But in Germany for comparison always having to re-engage autopilot after every lane change because of heavy traffic makes it really unenjoyable. Also there's still no traffic jam assist
100% true
Same in the UK, unless it's extremely quiet it's not worth the effort
Eap and fsd has auto lane change with it on at all times just not on basic ap . And sexy commander can also reengage after lane change
I drive on German AB almost only with automatic lane changes. You have to adapt your driving a bit and somtimes I intervine when very fast cars come from the back, but that is a German problem and a requierment problem
AFAIK this is one of many great features of sexy buttons - automatic reengaging Autopilot after lane change. Maybe you want to to try them? Cheers Julius
sry for posting this again :D. Still - Imagine this car with Qilin Battery and 10%-80% within 18 minutes.
10-80% in 18 minutes is what our 1-3 year-old Korean cars do :) And the Ioniq 6 offers the same efficiency like M3.

Sorry, but Elon Musk didn't design this Tesla, the 100,000 people who work at Tesla NOT named Elon Musk did this! Kudos for a job well done. Also, Bjorn, check out the door horns at the bottom of the doors which engage slots in the frame rails for greater side impact safety in the event of a crash. I don't know of any other vehicle that has this.
That is an amazing result!
The OutOfSpec guys in the US did 370 miles (595 km) at 70mph (112kph) 100% to when it stopped doing 70mph (under 0%) in new HIghland Longrange (4WD) so not surprised at these results. Great car.
When Lucid Air ? Lotus Emeya?
Need to send few Tesla "Go Home" ))
Those cars haven't left home yet...
It’s already really good. Just imagine how good it will be after they update the batteries.
I have this car in white and its driving is ruined by the missing stalks. Not only blinkers are a problem, but also high beams, wipers and TACC controls are compromised and very cumbersome to use. For example you will always flash cars in front of you if you are turning on or off high beans, because it’s the same button that you must hold longer and you can only turn off high beams when they are shining. When auto disabled, even holding the button will not turn them off. Another stupid thing is missing option to resume TACC speed or to accommodate to lower speed when slowed down by other cars. There is no button or wheel scroll for any of those. I can go on and on.
The solution is coming.
@@bjornnyland I don't think that this is a solution. It tells Tesla that they can do whatever they want to and people will buy it. If the stalks or buttons are crucial (which at least some are for sure, as woodypwx wrote), then don't buy a Tesla
Just use your matrix lights then . It works perfectly fine in the old model 3.
Aftermarket stalks are already on the market.
Missing blinker stalks is only a problem for people that do no drive a Highland regularly. I have both (Model Y and HL) and i prefer blinker buttons because mostly more convinient.
I think that is also Björn problem that he drives so many different cars that he doesnt get used to them.
Polls also show clearly the HL owners love the blinker buttons.
Best car for the money
Yes they are!
Tesla FTW baby!
Indeed it is the best.
Bjorn video, watched and liked. 👍🏻😊
Please Bjorn, can you also state the efficiency as miles/kwh as the standard at least half the civilised world is using. Thanks and another great video.
Actually, on the glide test, I could make out a lot of what was going on. By using English words for technical terms, I could understand what you may have been saying.
It is still the most reasonable package especially if you have to do a lot of long distance traveling like me.
One question: you say it has 74.5kWh net capacity. I thought the 2021 pre highland Model 3 LR I own had 78.8 gross and 75.6 net. Was I wrong or did it have 1kWh more net capacity?
I think the capacity varied actually
I found out from Sunday driving that we had 75.6 kWh net.

I've been testing both BMW and model 3 and decided to get the tesla
Björn, do you ever check if the consumption reported by cars is accurate for these range test? For instance by filling it back up to 100% and comparing energy added with consumption numbers?
Can you do a IONIQ 5 84 wrd test to compare ?

Have they finally fixed all the "creaking" interior and poor build quality?
Butter through cheese 😀
👍👍 Yeh, game over.
So no Audi anymore? ;)
So, no phantom breaking on this one?
No hidden lunch breaks.
@@bjornnyland I tested it recently on a road without markings and it was phantom braking constantly unfortunately. Other than that quite a good car. Comfort finally caught up with 10 year old mid class ICE vehicles. I drive a lot on tighter roads and prefer my dumb adaptive cruise control over Tesla's autopilot. Good car, but not good enough for me to scrap my diesel.

Is this the LR or SR?

@@bjornnyland oh yeah. D'OH!
No audio test?
From other tests from Bjørn, I think that still is really good the audio in this model. No "top notch" (remember that Model 3 is one category lower than the luxury Mercedes, BMW, etc), but more than decent, and better than previous Model 3 versions.
It's very good. Even better than old model 3.
@@stardustastro I asked bc i wanted Björn's opinion. I listened to both new systems and actually preferred the SR. The LR goes loud but sounds too busy and some phase issues (prob bc of the high number of speakers)
It's Musk who makes me not buying a Tesla.
Is this LR RWD or AWD?
LR = AWD
LR RWD = RWD
@@bjornnyland I though the RWD was LFP battery, no?
10:45 Could you also test the Model 3 LR RWD which was announced with 600 miles range?
600 miles = 966 km of range? Really?
Several things to nuance:
1. The car has 18¨no 19¨.
2. The etron gt that you tested a few days ago is more efficient a) tire 21 vs 18 25-30% penalty that's 4kw plus b)305 vs 235 that's another 2kw +/- c) weight 2400kg vs 1800kg that's 2kw +/- Not to mention the amount of chassis hardware that the Audi vs Tesla carries, in the end Tesla goes empty 75kw, Audi full 97kw, if BMW or Audi make a D-segment sedan car with them tires and those weights I'm sure it will be more efficient than Tesla.
Tesla is software, weight and price, if VW for example starts offering that I'm sure it will be more efficient, if a 4.30mts Born weighs the same as a 4.70mts model 3. Tesla must go to 800v now or it will have problems. They still have the advantage of the SuC but if we start to see cars with 600kms real Lucid type the super charge will no longer make so much sense.
Let's start comparing things well that the model 3 is not a Starship, although some owners believe it.
that isnt proportional
😂😅 in your dreams
You are comparing a $180k to $240K car to a 75K car in Australia. The more you spend on a Vehicle, the more you lose on depreciation.
What is the price of etron gt?
@@klikar1982 The same as the Model S with Track pack, etron comes with track pack as standard, in this comparison look at Björn's numbers at the end of the video, same consumption with tire 19 Tesla and 21 the Audi, 15-20% penalized the Audi for the tire, the two cars with the same tire would be more efficient Audi, heat loss 6% Audi 12% Tesla, I repeat Tesla must go to 800V now. In chassis I don't even compare them because the Audi is light years away, 800V, etc. With this I think I respond to several comments.
xpeng mona 03 is going half the price of model3 in China. price war is coming...😮
When I look at Tesla's sales figures in China over the initial period, I see a strong upward trend at the beginning, followed by a decline and after some time of experience with Chinese cars, a strong upward trend, currently the best-selling in China. The automotive industry has always had price wars.
What would be interesting which I've not seen would be 10km runs to ascertain the accurate Wh/km of an EV at 1km-5km incremental speeds from say 40km-130km. From this you could plot a graph of efficiency vs speed and extrapolate range vs speed.
Yet sales are falling for the Model 3. What did they get wrong?
Elon
I think its more a question what did Tesla get wrong on the model Y? 🙂
Not in China
Three main reasons I think.
1. People are still scared that Tesla's build quality, reliability and material feel is poor, which is not the case anymore with the Chinese or Germany built cars.
2. The removal of the indicator and shift stalks is a capital D deal breaker for a lot of people.
3. A lot of people don't want to associate with Elon Musk what so ever since he became incredibly political and right wing.
@@SpankeyMcCheeks read my mind, those are the exact reasons I have. First one less so, because I feel many manufacturers are taking shortcuts with quality nowadays, with their cheaper models at least. The Chinese manufacturers are catching up and surpassing some of the legacy manufacturers in this regard.
I wonder how much influence Elon had in the making of Highland. I suspect very little actual participation.
The real work is done by the Tesla engineers and there is more than enough reason to praise them.
Elon is a genius, really? Irony surely.

if you're driving at 160 km/h, you could drive for about 45-55 minutes :D

Incorrect. 160 km/h is approximately 200 Wh/km. The range is 375 km which will take 2 hours and 2 minutes.
Maybe. But I couldn’t live with its austerity interior.
I know that Teslas are very good EVs and in some areas class leading. But I just can't support a company by buying their cars, that kicked out the stalks and buttons, just to buy stalks and buttons later in the aftermarket... This tells the companies that they can sell you everything because it is from Tesla and you will buy it anyway 🙈
so, go and buy a more expensive car with less range, lower accelaration and bad software. And enjoy the stalks :-)
Don’t be so closed minded; I got used to it in 2-3 days. Weather the car is priced correctly, especially considering the drop in lithium prices in the recent past, that’s another question.
Smells like apple lol
@@stardustastrofunny part is that alot of people around the world likes apple
Been driving it recently. Ergonomically total disaster. No stalks, fiddly with changing driving directions, sitting so low it feels like sitting on the floor. Driving in roundabouts is dangerous with turn signals on the steering wheel.
Sitting low = good for handling and driving feel. We don't need SUV!
I've also been driving it recently and I feel the exact opposite. I actually like to not move my whole hand for blinking, the steering is very direct but still comfortable and I actually love to be able to sit super low which is great for driving feel. You should be looking into some SUV I guess
If only these boxes weren't so ugly
Too bad build quality is still not good, some assistants are s*it and I wouldn't for the love of god give money to them as long as Elon is still there. Still happy I went for the i4 instead of M3P.
Go check the highland, the quality is really good comparing to the old car. I test drove one one month ago and I ordered one, I am going to pick it up this week.
I can't justify the i4's high price tho. There are some good things for sure, but too many compromises and bad things for the price IMO...
1. It's heavy AF (M3P 2024 is 439(?)kg lighter than i4 M50)
2. cramped interior (especially the backseat)
3. UI is bloated
4. doors, vents & side pillars have cheap plastic
5. transmission tunnel
6. no frunk
7. can't install software updates when temperature is under -10 °C (if I remember the threshold correctly)
