I bought a QLED LG TV two years ago. The dimming where you see the band of light travel across the screen is SO distracting. Think a bright spaceship traveling across dark space, you'll see a horizontal strip of brighter space move with the ship. I hated it, but absolutely LOVED the concept of local dimming as well as the fact I could use this TV to plug my gaming PC in and not have to worry about burn-in. So I bought a QNED LG TV this past Xmas and gave the other TV to a family member who absolutely loves it. I also bought her a mini-PC BeeLink so she could use it to watch all her movies. But even she asked me to turn off the dimming. The QNED dims everything except the object that is bright. So while around that spaceship the space might be brighter, the general space is still nice and black. There's no going back once you've seen the difference. I forget what kind of dimming they called it.
The LG QNED 50 makes a good large screen PC monitor (turn off the local dimming though) simply by virtue of the fact it supports features most 50" TVs don't have like 120hz. They don't really make "actual" 50" PC monitors and most 50" TVs are missing features that you'd want on a PC monitor (even when larger models of the same line have those features they are left out of the 50" if it exists) so it sort of wins by default. Also unlike the larger sizes of this model the 50" uses a VA panel but it's a VA panel with an unusually wide viewing angle, you can tell when you look at pixels at the very edge of the screen that there is some sort of refracting layer that is widening the view angle by how the row of pixels at the edge of the LCD shift under the edge of the bezel when viewed at an angle.
Just be wary of the lifespan of the backlight for TCL displays. I am in regret mode for my personal TVs. On a business budget you might be able to get something a tad nicer.

It didn’t include the wall mount but they had it on a stand already - oh and it didn’t include a remote. $30 for a new magic remote and I’ve never been happier as I was ready to buy a 77” B3 that day.
About a year ago I got a 70" 4k tv at target for $300. Honestly its a dream for the price, its a roku tv from a brand I've never heard of before "Westinghouse", but it works and its big that's all I expected from it. Plus its great because my eyes aren't as attuned to the difference in color.
Was actually talking about this with my parents last weekend when they were discussing getting a new TV. I remember ~15 years ago we bought a 65" "HD" TV. It was massive, took 4 people to move, it looked like shit, it broke a lot (had a tech out to repair it under warranty like 4 times). Now you can walk into any department store and buy a 65" TV that comparatively looks remarkable for under $500 and carry it out yourself.
I work as a TV installer and I install about 2-3 of these a week, and I can confidently say, installing one of these directly onto a stud is perfectly fine. Just use 6 Lags total (and probably 2 anchors) and it will not move. Just don't buy a cheap wall mount, they aren't actually strong enough for this size tv despite claiming so. In my experience too, this is the lightest 98" of all the ones I've installed. Hiesense makes a super heavy one and so does Samsung
At 10:00 i noticed a dead pixel infront of linus his nose 2/3 between their heads, it's not in my tv screen... it's in de camera? any one noticed that or am i going crazy
We had a similar problem when we got a 65 inch TV recently. The manual says to put it screen down on a table which is difficult with a TV that size. What we ended up doing is using the box, we put the foam back in and used that as the flat surface. They really need to come up with better ways of attaching the legs, push on mounts aren’t the best and you need to use a lot of force on a very thin and large TV, why not just use bolts?
the prices of large tvs have gotten to a point where i just cant believe that they are making any profit on this. how can you manefacture this giant thing for less than 1500 bucks
It’s the same reason why they integrate Roku’s, webOS, Tizen, and Android/Google TV’s into them - so they can make up the profit lost in the sale via selling info to data brokers. When’s the last time you saw a cheap TV come with just a channel/input switcher, despite the pretty big demand for a modern TV with no OS installed?
TCL is a Chinese brand that operates with fairly high standards. They can under cut the competition thanks largely to the exchange rate when selling to foreign countries and the lower wages they pay their employees. This company would be one of the higher paying jobs since their products is selling rather well. Their tv’s have some flaws here and there but nothing a casual consumer will mind and even those with higher standards can except due to the price. Solid tv’s overall, I have one that’s probably 8 years old and it still runs great but it’s getting old tech wise- like missing vrr support and it’s not true 120 hertz, some dim zones. I’m looking at getting a newer one.
i picked up a TCL 55inch 144hz 4k screen a while back for a real good price and i absolutely LOVE it. yes its a budget TV and does it have every feature and the best specs? absolutely not. but for the size price and the fact its 144hz is just amazing for someone who does not have the cash for the top of line screens... love it.
their 2023 Qled model is actually pretty good. (tcl 55c743) FALD instead of this. Better then the 2024 mini led version. I managed to find one for like 600 euro's
yeah, TCL actually makes some pretty great stuff, especially for the price. I saw a decent number of comments saying that they don't last but the 4K 55" I've had for like 5 years is just as good as the day I got it
I gotta say, I bought a 75" TCL TV in 2019 for half the price of a somewhat comparable Samsung or whatever. 5 years later, it still looks & works great. I know there are better quality TVs, but I'm not sitting 6 inches from the TV pixel peeping.
For the game mode you got to press the source (or the hamburger, can't recall) button and hold it. If you connect a game source it usually detects it automatically (worked with my ps4 and steamlink). Mine is a mini led from tcl 55inch and it's great, very happy with the purchase. Only complaint is that you have a small button in the middle to turn off the microphone and it lights up 4 small leds in that state. Edit: and just open the box upside down to get the feet. The guys who installed mine did that in 2 minutes.

These large, "cheap" TVs are great for common and external areas. For HT or TV room, you'll probably want something better, even if smaller to fit the budget.
But you forgot the comparison to linus's previous large tv! And what resolution is component video? 720p or 1080p max? For those that want to get the most out of a older console (say ps3 or 360 hooked up via hdmi (to make space for current gen or last gen)
Weird to see people say the inches of a TV like that's enough info. Like. Was it an LG C4 OLED? If so that price sounds about right (although I'd love to know why you didn't go for the 77" since there's such a big price difference but that's a different story) and your picture quality is going to blow this one out of the water. TV size is like camera megapixels; beyond a point it just stops mattering.
@@DanKaschel Close! went for the G4 and yeah I understand going for a OLED tv would be way better viewing experience in terms of picture quality , but it’s funny to just see the difference in terms of price depending on the technology that the tv uses. Moving into a new house I wanted the best home entertainment set up that I could buy.
I wouldn't worry too much about spending a lot on a TV that big. 2 of my TCL TV's had their backlights die within 4 years of purchase, so at least you don't have to buy your TV twice / thrice.

It didn’t include the wall mount but they had it on a stand already - oh and it didn’t include a remote. $30 for a new magic remote and I’ve never been happier as I was ready to buy a 77” B3 that day.
I’m glad every TV comes with a segue to our sponsor, that should be useful
4:56 "the content" got me🤣
I was thinking it, then Adam said it.
Literally heard it as i scrolled by your comment 🤣
Got me in stitches. The look too :D
"But...big."
That really is the tagline for this TV
The AliExpress Pricing Benchmark: $100 per diagonal inch
Andy as the security tho 😂😂😂
About a year ago I got a 70" 4k tv at target for $300. Honestly its a dream for the price, its a roku tv from a brand I've never heard of before "Westinghouse", but it works and its big that's all I expected from it. Plus its great because my eyes aren't as attuned to the difference in color.
This video format is awesome, love this natural interaction so much better than a single person reading a script
@@jordanc8926 I know, right? This has been one of the most enjoyable videos from LTT I've seen in a while.
I love that Plouffe's shtick is still that he "owns a display" 😂
A giant cushioned table... what about a bed?
2:05 the 115" may have been just too big for a double pallet, while 100" just small enough.
I was going to buy this TV to cut fabric, but now I’m not going to. Thanks Linus 😊 👍
At 10:00 i noticed a dead pixel infront of linus his nose 2/3 between their heads, it's not in my tv screen... it's in de camera? any one noticed that or am i going crazy
I see it!
me too
4:12 it's called a bed...
Or normal dining table and a reasonable sized blanket?? But who has those kicking around?
2:50 was about to buy this when I heard the squares were exactly 1CMx1CM, but with those gaps, no way 😮💨
We had a similar problem when we got a 65 inch TV recently.
When’s the last time you saw a cheap TV come with just a channel/input switcher, despite the pretty big demand for a modern TV with no OS installed?
you put ads on them
they dont cost that much to manufacture

Linus has been teaching people how to spell 'segue' for so many years now!
What's that suspicious looking pink "tool", top right on the wall rack in the background at around 3:10 ? ( ^_^ )
Banana for scale. Easy.

I immediately saw that too lol

7:19 The way Linus moves his hand away when he got aired 💀
Linus's face when he said we don't have to worry about safety, that smile dropped quick
i picked up a TCL 55inch 144hz 4k screen a while back for a real good price and i absolutely LOVE it. yes its a budget TV and does it have every feature and the best specs? absolutely not. but for the size price and the fact its 144hz is just amazing for someone who does not have the cash for the top of line screens... love it.
i love my tcl q7 as well. it's good to stay years behind on new tv crap, much cheaper and still just as fun to upgrade
their 2023 Qled model is actually pretty good. (tcl 55c743) FALD instead of this. Better then the 2024 mini led version. I managed to find one for like 600 euro's
They are the best budget TV's compared to Vizeo and other brands. I have a 2018 model that's still working great and the picture is still incredible.
yeah, TCL actually makes some pretty great stuff, especially for the price. I saw a decent number of comments saying that they don't last but the 4K 55" I've had for like 5 years is just as good as the day I got it
I’d love to see a more current home theater audio setup. Maybe do a cheap vs expensive like you have been doing!
why do i feel like your videos are returning to the vibe you older videos had. this feels so wholesome
i like this type of format with tech reviews. its so chill yet informative
5:21 THE FADE FROM THE 65 INCH TO THE 98 INCH HAHAHAHA
To be fair, if you got 1500 bucks to spend on a tv this one seems like a no brainer to me if you have the space
@@not_so_native_native no fald is disappointing tho. Tlc has very good local doming on their high end tvs
the price 1500 beat all the problem
I gotta say, I bought a 75" TCL TV in 2019 for half the price of a somewhat comparable Samsung or whatever. 5 years later, it still looks & works great. I know there are better quality TVs, but I'm not sitting 6 inches from the TV pixel peeping.
The music in the intro was just PERFECT! I notice you editor!
Had to take off my headphones at 0:16 to make sure it wasn’t the evacuation alarm in my office
The guys who installed mine did that in 2 minutes.

those old big ass box tvs- hold my beer
Lol, if that thing is heavy then my old 42 inch my dad bought back in 88 for a few grand is a black hole😂

Open box Best Buy shopping has been the way this year. I bought an Alienware 34inch DWF model for less than $600 out the door still in manufacturer warranty period and so far no problems.
The dead pixel around 10:19 scared the crap out of me!
11:38 was just thinking that the entire time 😂
a giant cushioned surface... like a bed
I don't think they have beds at the office lol
What mouse is that? The bright pink one?
These large, "cheap" TVs are great for common and external areas. For HT or TV room, you'll probably want something better, even if smaller to fit the budget.

lol seeing this after paying 7k CAD for a 83 inch tv
Weird to see people say the inches of a TV like that's enough info. Like. Was it an LG C4 OLED? If so that price sounds about right (although I'd love to know why you didn't go for the 77" since there's such a big price difference but that's a different story) and your picture quality is going to blow this one out of the water.
TV size is like camera megapixels; beyond a point it just stops mattering.
...I hope you respond because I just looked up pricing and I think I might have guessed right on your TV -- now I have to know!
@@DanKaschel Close! went for the G4 and yeah I understand going for a OLED tv would be way better viewing experience in terms of picture quality , but it’s funny to just see the difference in terms of price depending on the technology that the tv uses.
I could have saved 2k CAD if I went for the 77” but I was able to afford the 2k difference and wanted the biggest OLED TV that I could realistically could afford. Moving into a new house I wanted the best home entertainment set up that I could buy.
I wouldn't worry too much about spending a lot on a TV that big. 2 of my TCL TV's had their backlights die within 4 years of purchase, so at least you don't have to buy your TV twice / thrice.

Brand new 98" Q651G units have been selling for $1600 new in the US. I bought one. LOVE IT!
I got mine for $1600 and came with $1000 in gift cards and a sound bar, but that was a weird price matching mistake.
Surprisingly, from 9' away, it could be bigger. Unless you are watching talking heads. Drama or news or whatever. Giant heads in the living room is creepy. Landscapes are magnificent.
I got a 55inch TCL for my bedroom for less than 300$ new. (hooked up to my PC with a splitter as well). Had it about 4 years now, never had an issue. Have a Samsung speaker bar and woofer plugged into the optical port. The game mode works great, the settings are simple and do everything I need. 👍

I got my QD-OLED Samsung S90C on sale earlier this year for the same price as that TV. Yes, it is smaller in screen size, but DEAR LORD is the picture beautiful. Ill take picture quality over size any day now. I can't go back
I'll take both, without OLED.
