Finally, someone that does it right. I am flabbergasted at all the guys that measure the height of the headlights first then put the tape on the wall at that measurement. That just aims the lights straight out and if your vehicle is lifted, you're still blinding people. The line at 25 ft should be 36" up from the ground, REGARDLESS of how high your headlights sit. Thanks for letting people know the correct way.
Great video, a lot of jeep owners don't make that adjustment and they end up blinding oncoming traffic. Hopefully this teaches everyone to do it right!
Thank you so much! You inspired me to do a 2.5" AEV lift on my own to save money and now you even taught me to adjust the headlights properly! You are making my bank account really happy 😂
😂That is really awesome to hear! I’m happy that you’re finding the videos helpful! Please feel free to share out there to help the channel gain some traction. Thanks. 🙏
Since all Jeeps are not at the same height due to lift or tire height, measure from the center of headlight to ground then subtract 2”. Eg headlight height center or dot is at 38” - 2” = 36” headlight cut off line at 25’ away from a vertical wall.
Thank you for the video. I saw others that didn't fit my Jeep. Yours got the job done. Only thing is I found turning clockwise lowered the headlights not counter clockwise.
Awesome! I'm glad you found the video helpful. As for the direction, my JL is a 2018, maybe they changed something in other years??? Anyway, I'm glad you got it sorted. Thanks for the feedback. Cheers
Thanks dude. You saved me time of figuring out what tool was needed for adjustment. Glad things are still using a phillips. 😂 even more glad I bought the extra long snap on ones that probably haven’t ever been used except for doing my 392 that had the lights WAY too high from the factory even after throwing a winch on.
Great video ✌ Couple of additions, perhaps: 1. The adjustment screws have been moved to a more convenient location in my 2021 JL (just on the side of headlight assemblies) and, 2. The torx bit works even better than the Phillips screwdriver.
Will look forward to seeing your updated video on reducing weight on the Sleeper/Camping Platform. Really appreciate all your videos. Thanks for the Make$ents Tip.
I think the headlight adjustment screw is different on the 2021 JLU. I only see a hex adjust screw near the top of the headlight and I do not see the adjustment screws that you showed. I have looked with a flashlight and they simply are not there. This doesn't see to be verifiable on google or youtube because the 2021 models are too new....I guess? I just went and tried it and the adjustment screws are at the top of the light on the 2021 Jeep wrangler Rubicon!
@@CheaperJeeperTV No, I didn't get many extras cuz I wanted a manual and had to drive over 200 miles to get it cuz there were only two manuals in Southern California. The manual is the base rubicon model. I have added a lot to it but will never have a heated steering wheel or heated seats but I really don't need them here in southern calif.
I see. I wonder then if the stock headlights have a different housing, and therefore different screws are used to adjust them. Enjoy the weather in S. Calif. :-) Cheers
Hey Alfredo. Glad to help. The only trick part is to make sure you have a long thin #2 Phillips screw driver to reach that adjustment screw behind the drivers side light. Cheers.
Hey Johnny JL, I agree. It surprised me how easy it was. I’ve seen in the forums people mentioning being flashed by other drivers. It’s likely not that the lights are too bright, but just that they need to be lowered a bit. Cheers.
The Jeep in the video is a 2018, but somebody else told me they had to rotate the other way around so maybe they changed it in newer models. ? Did you try turning it the other direction?
The screw is extremely easy to strip out (especially on the passenger side, where it’s hard to get the screwdriver seated properly). Jeep, really thinking ahead, also made the lights adjustable with a 10mm Allen wrench (look closely at the shape of the opening where the screw is located).
@CheaperJeeperTV I put 1/4" spacers/plastic washers that came with a tv wall mount, in between where the light housing meets the Jeep. The lights don't shine so much on the side of the road now. But most of the light is still not on the road. Do you think this is just poor oversight on Jeeps end?
No. I think the light going to the sides is desirable to most and that’s why it is set that way. Maybe it’s to help see the deer in the sides of the roads?
I have a JL with a 2” lift. The center of my headlights are about 42” (3.5’) off the ground. I adjusted my headlights using the guidance in this video and I noticed that the light from my headlights doesn’t extend nearly as far in front of the vehicle. In comparison, the light from the headlights on my car extends much further down the road. This got me thinking. The height your lights should shine at 25’ is dependent on how tall the vehicle is. To take it to an extreme, suppose I had a 12” lift on my Jeep with 42” tires. My headlights would be sitting almost 5’ off the ground and to get them to shine 3’ high at 25’ they would need to be angled sharply down, resulting in the light reaching the ground very close in front of the vehicle. Compare this to a stock Jeep with the headlights physically located just a little over 3’ above the ground. They would only need a slight downward angle to hit the 25’ target at the 3’ mark but since the light is shining almost straight out it would travel much further down the road giving much better visibility at night. To summarize, two vehicles of different heights with the headlights adjusted to shine 3’ high at a 25’ distance are going to have a noticeably different light projection.
I just bought my Wrangler and everyone keeps flashing me. I'm like i don't have the high beams on!!!!!! I will try and do this asap. Thank you for explaining this so well
I don’t understand your “3ft mark” ? The way your supposed to aim DOT VOR headlight is to measure the height of the center of the headlight and then at 25ft : Same height if height is between 22" and 36" -2" if between 36" and 48" -4" if between 48" and 54" Headlights should be no lower than 22" and no higher than 54"

Hey TrailWalker, thanks for the feedback. I was surprised that it only involves one adjustment screw. So easy.
@@CheaperJeeperTV They did a pretty good job of making it easy, I prefer the location on the JL compared to the JK, but both are just one screw

Just picked up a 2022 JT. Thank you for sharing this info. Very clear and concise video. Much easier than my 2008 JK’s headlights!

Same with my 2021 JT Willys.

Would you not want to start by measuring and moving the Jeep 25’ from the wall before putting up the tape at the 3’ mark?

So how to calculate the LED light beam height on the bare wall if my Jeep was lifted up by 8 inches?
I’m not sure about that. 🤷🏻♂️
This is great. I just went on a 3k mile drive around the country and kept getting flashed with my regular headlights on with aftermarket LED bulbs.

I don’t understand your “3ft mark” ?
The way your supposed to aim DOT VOR headlight is to measure the height of the center of the headlight and then at 25ft :
Same height if height is between 22" and 36"
-2" if between 36" and 48"
-4" if between 48" and 54"
Headlights should be no lower than 22" and no higher than 54"
